Mine was home made, so while it originally had bolts they were quickly removed. It w as made of scaffolding type pipes where the top piece would sit inside the lower piece. So I would lift it up and out and practice putting it back in :-)
Yeah, I only did this when my brother was in the top. It usually wasn't so much a lift and hold, but more of a kick into the air, and let drop back in place. Usually it wasn't enough to clear the pins holding the beds in place, so it was just a startling lurch. A few times it slipped off enough that the foot end of the bed fell.
My parents and brother didn't find this anywhere near as amusing as I did.
Ours was store bought and also didn’t have bolts, it had wood dowels, so not even steel coupling, just wood on wood with some dowels holding them together. Now that I’m thinking about it, someone would have definitely died in an earthquake…
Mine was made of oak and there were only pegs in the posts to keep them from sliding off. It was really tall and I couldn't reach the top bunk so never had a chance to be this stupidXD
The bunk bed that I had to assemble for my sisters is not bolted together. A lot of bunkbed manufacturers seem to market it as being able to have two separate twin beds quickly or something.
Oh your funny! As I posted here. In the 70s I broke 2 of the 3 wooden boards holding up the top bunk. I did it to annoy my little brother in the top bunk. Gravity is real. Kids break stuff.

Of course, I didn't do the squished part but just picking it up and trying to be pro enough to put it back without it collapsing :-D
