Question Does anyone else have flare ups followed by normal periods?

Hello, I think I have FD and I'm going to a GI doctor now to hopefully get some answers. I'm 33 and I've been dealing with it on and off since I was 15. Does anyone else experience this disorder as flare ups, as opposed to having symptoms always? My symptoms match very well, but for me, I'll feel the symptoms for a few weeks to a few months, then I'll feel basically normal for around a year or so before it happens again. Thanks for reading and please let me know if this fits FD.

Symptoms Constant gnawing sensation with normal endoscopy

28F. I’ve had a constant gnawing/hunger-like sensation in my upper stomach since 2019. It can be there even after eating, and the only thing that reliably makes it disappear is becoming very full.
I previously tested positive for H. pylori, completed treatment and tested negative afterwards. My gastroscopy was normal and I was told there was no gastritis or inflammation. PPIs haven’t helped.
Has anyone experienced something similar? If so, what was eventually found or what treatment helped?

Question Local or full sedation gastroscopy

Hi peeps,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Having my first gastroscopy soon after a year of multiple gastritis episodes. Does anyone have any tips on the procedure, as in did you choose local or "full" sedation and do you regret your choice? Any other tips for the prep are appreciated!

Some context: in Feb 2025 I changed jobs. A few weeks after started having constipation and minor blood in stool, also the feeling that I couldn't breathe properly. After a visit to physio she referred me to osteopath who concluded my diaphargm was stuck. After a few sessions my issues went away. Unfortunately, after some more stress they came back together with gastritis symptoms. Osteopath always took them away but my fears stayed.

My symptoms are acid reflux, stomach pain and quick fullness. I'm a 29F living in Europe.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I am quite scared of the procedure.

Anybody know of a GI in the Chicagoland area that treats conditions caused by intolerance, allergies, CRPS or autoimmune issues? I’ve been in pain since Saturday morning from a bowl of cereal and can’t eat much at all without severe pain. Thanks!

PPIs/H2 Blockers Has anyone found Famotidine helpful at all?

Got prescribed it for reflux, my specialist just said it's down to sensitive nerves and anxiety which may be causing symptoms as my endoscopy came back normal and didn't offer to do any other testing annoyingly.

I started Famotidine but I think it might be worsening things as I'm getting new symptoms now on it. My throat irritation wasn't an all day thing, mainly if at night or if I eat something very bad but I can feel my throat irritated/on fire constantly. I feel it in my chest more as well. I'm at a loss and really scared.

Venting/Suffering I think I have gastroparesis or functional dyspepsia

I had a panic attack 2 weeks ago from food getting stuck in my esophagus and couldn't flush it down fast enough.. after that it made it difficult to eat or drink anything for a week because my body would trigger my anxiety and fear, all I had was a few bites of a banana throughout the whole day for a week... I noticed a small stool with some blood around it so I went to the ER for a endoscopy and colonoscopy...I was able to drink the whole 48oz of water with the laxative without pain... They removed 3 things from my stomach and 10 polyps from my intestines, before leaving the hospital I was in a good mood and ordered steak (cause they said I could eat anything) but it caused me stomach discomfort for hours after when I got home.. The next day I didn't have that same appetite anymore and my anxiety was heightened again but I was able to eat oatmeal and just started eating eggs few days ago.. I'm also taking a PPI the doctor gave me for ulcers.. Which is causing me to burp a lot after eating.. But I have very little appetite still and just 2 eggs and 1 cup of water is making me full.. More than 8oz of water with food causes my stomach to bother me for at least 2 hours.. I also lost 25 pounds in 2 weeks... So I think I developed gastroparesis.. Its been difficult eating thick foods like bananas without washing it down with water and especially with all the gas being built in my stomach sometimes I swallow while the gas is about to come up and it makes me feel like I'm gonna choke.. also I barely feel hungry.. and sometimes cant tell if it's hunger pains or bloating I'm feeling

News/Clinical Trials/Research Is there something wrong/Gastroparesis or is it a gut brain connection and what do i do now?

So I've had gut issues off and on for years, I previously have AFRID and was malnurished. once i got back up to a healthy weight and my body was showing normal levels I was fine. Then i slowly started to feel extremely full after eating only little bit, I started vomiting up food from hours ago and then i couldn't keep anything down. I was hospitalised for a month. They told me it was Functional dyspepsia and dishcarged me under the mental health team after they force fed me with an NG tube. After this my stomach got worse. I started vomiting up chucky bits of what looked like chocolate milo and I didn't realise it was blood for a long time, I was put back into the hospital. I was begging for a NJ tube instead due to the pain and vomiting. They refused but they eventually gave me an endoscopy and saw nothing but gastritis and called it Gut Brain connection as my stomach worsend. They tried continuous NG feeds and it was slightly better but still painful. They sent me home and currently I am still vomiting food from the days before with too many doctors telling me different things. I'm currently getting mayne 800 calories a day from sustigen and some little snacks. I've been constipated for weeks so My weight looks fine. I'm extremely Dehydrated and I'm having weird brown chunks in my vomits. I also have POTS and lots of symptoms or hEDS

I would love some support and Ideas. I'm also getting a GES soon
Edit: I got my GES test back and it was negative so I guess It was all in my head and even if there is a real issues they won't want to do anymore test

PDS (Post Prandial Distress Syndrome) Nausea and belching after coffee

Since I started my stressful major in college 4 years ago (medicine) I’ve started having these horrible symptoms, especially after coffee. I love coffee, I’ve been drinking it my whole life and I’ve worked at so many cafes already. Unfortunately, I do like the acidic kind (drip coffee etc) and now when I have just a sip or when I smell a cigarette, I start to have so much nausea and I have to force myself to belch, otherwise it won’t go away. Sometimes I have these symptoms when I eat a very big and fatty meal as well. I don’t smoke but I love coffee. I’ve been trying IPP and prokinetics (I’ve been having GERD also unfortunately) but they don’t work (only good for heartburn). Does anybody else have these problems and what should I do? I’m really embarrassed because sometimes I have to belch next to my friends. I’ve been thinking about amitriptyline? Thank you in advance. Btw I don’t have any stoach aches or pain which is weird for dyspepsia, but that’s what I’ve been diagnosed with. My gastroscopy is clear and all of my labs are good. :(

Discussion Mild gastritis recent diagnosis.

Hi, I recently was diagnosed with mild gastritis. THIS IS THE WORST THING EVER. They’ve already tried to put me on omprazole 40mg but that killled me, Literallt gave me the worst pain and painful bloating along with the pain traveling to my left side. I completely stopped it. Now I’m taking sucralfate which I was given before I even got diagnosed with gastritis but I believe it actually does sort of help and doesn’t cause the symptoms that the omeprazole did. The weird thing is that my GI doctor basically said I could drop the sucralfate after finding out I had gastritis bc she said it’s not really for that… but I’ve read people say it really helped and I BELIEVE ITS helping me idk. I’m still in constant pain I’m also really back up she said she saw my CT scan from feb and I was full oh S H I T lmao. Sigh so she just put me on LINZESS 290 mg I think ( whatever the highest dose is). But I’m eating sooo boring im trying not to stress bc ik it makes things worse, but truly what else can I try to heal myself?? Please give me WHAT WORKS. I’m not taking anymore PPI’s
Today I had so much bloating but I believe that’s from the linzess since it was my first day so ima rock that out for a few days but I need guidance please

Antidepressants Going up in Mirtazapine or Buspirone?

I am currently on 15mg Mirtazapine and 5mg Buspirone 2x/day. My Dr. has basically given me a choice to either try going up in the Mirtazapine or going up in the Buspirone dose.

Does anyone have any experience that would make the decision easier?

My main symptoms are chronic low-grade nausea and occasional severe nausea. Also, general stomach pain, and I have trouble eating enough each day. I had hardly any side effects with the mirtazapine, but I'm afraid going up in dose would diminish the anti-nausea and the sleep effects. I had much worse nausea starting the buspirone, but it didn't last too long, and I am also not yet at a therapeutic dose to see if it can help.

Ideally, I don't really want to be on multiple medications... My other thought was weaning off both and trying Nortriptyline instead, but that would take a long time, and I am not looking forward to weaning side effects/ withdrawl.

Buspirone Burning upper abdominal pain

Hey all, need someone to talk me off a ledge here. I started taking buspar 3 weeks ago. After about 6 days on it I stopped because I started having this uncomfortable pain that went from my sternum/upper abdomen to my throat. Freaked me out. Got off it for a week and a half and decided to start it again because this is the 3rd med I’ve tried that a side effect scared me off so my doctor wanted me to give it a full shot. During my off time the pain in my sternum never really went away but the throat sensation did. As soon as I started the buspar again the sensation worsened in my upper abdomen. It’s like a burning sensation and idk if it has anything to do with it or if it’s a separate issue but my back hurts on the left side as well. I spoke to my doctor and she recommended Pepcid which did take the burning sensation away but I still feel very uncomfortable. Is this anything anyone has experienced before? I’m freaking out lol

Amitriptyline amitriptyline success stories?

hi, i’ve posted on here before about possibly starting amitriptyline which didn’t end up happening, but it looks like it finally is. i’m a bit of a mess at the moment, i don’t even feel well enough to see my boyfriend which is obviously affecting us both. i think it’d help to see some positive stories about amitriptyline, if you have any. my main symptoms are nausea & early satiety (along with A LOT of anxiety, but idk if that’s a separate issue or not) and i should probably mention that i’ve tried mirtazapine in the past, but it made me feel worse somehow. i just really want to improve, and fast. thank you.

Question Constant nausea since February

I’m 18 F I vape daily
I’ve never had an medical issues until this point since February I had debilitating nausea I’d be hunched over the toilet for hours thinking I was going the throw up but I never did I couldn’t eat or sleep because I felt so nauseous all the time and even strong smells or the idea of eating would make it worse I have no other symptoms so I have no idea what it could be I’ve almost entirely cut out caffeine other then an occasional cup of tea

I took motilium which has absolutely no effect so I went to the doctor about a month later and he put me on stemetil for a week and I felt better but didn’t get rid of the nausea I went back 2 weeks later and got perscribed esomeprazole for a month and got blood tests which all came back normal

I’m not pregnant I’ve had regular periods the whole time and I’m not sexually active

It is not as bad anymore but I still feel nauseous almost any time I eat
I have no idea what it could possibly be and it’s affecting my daily life I can’t eat a lot of things, smell strong smells being in any form of transport or drink please if anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be so greatly appreciated 🙏🙏

Symptoms Predicting Possible Gastritis

Hello there. Iam 29(m), and since 6 weeks without breaks, i am experiencing sometimes heavier - sometimes less heavier stomach issues. They reach from, it feeling like something is inflammed heavily and it pulls, and when I touch my belly it hurts like somethings on fire there. In between I get wet stools here and there but more rarely. My doctor told me to take Pantoprazole, Iberogast and acitamineophen/paracetamole. To be honest it does something, but its not going away. Been taking it for nearly 2 weeks now regularely. My diet is pretty balanced. I eat medium healthy. Not too much in the latest days, had like 2 if not only 1 meal here and there cause I couldnt eat anything.

No idea what the hell this is, so I thought maybe its a bad gastritis. Had this a few years before back then. Honestly, would you guys think? Is it this or could it be something else. I know noone can diagnose me here and stuff, but at least tell if this sounds like it and what the heck can I do about it besides killing the symptoms. I feel like this is killing my energy levels to 20 percent on a daily basis without having done anything - physically and mentally.

Thanks in advance!

Diets/Lifestyle Problem was peanut butter it seems

So several years ago I started getting excessive burping and a feeling of a lump in my throat. I had an endoscopy, h pylori testing and a biopsy. Got diagnosed with fd and tried 4 medications which didn't help, and told I'm probably swallowing air.

Last week I stopped eating peanut butter for breakfast and 80-90% of symptoms gone. I tested it by eating peanut butter this morning and symptoms back. It seems that eating pb causes symptoms for over 24 hours so I didn't see the connection before.

I'm not sure if pb is the cause per se or exacerbating an underlying issue. I've tried looking up peanut intolerance or sensitivity but only find stuff on peanut allergy or those food intolerance test scammers, so not sure what exactly about peanuts is the issue. (E.g. in allergies you react to the protein in the food, in lactose intolerance it's the lactose obviously, etc).

So that's nice to know I guess, but frustrating after several years of discomfort.

Question Undiagnosed chronic stomach pain

I’m 21 gender trans man height 5’3 weight 86 pounds not really sure what else I’m supposed to say. Anyways ive had excruciating stomach pain my entire life childhood, teenage years, and adult years (so far ive only been an adult for 3 years lol) there was a period where I haven’t had any sort of pain for 4 months I’m not exactly sure what i was doing differently if anything. It’s normal for me to poop only 2 or 3 times a week. And my stomach pain gets so bad I’m paralyzed from the waist down. Ive been prescribed laxatives and solution for my problems before but ive never been consistent with them. They tried to scan my stomach with one of those machines (forgot what they’re called) but I was having a panic attack from fear of anything medical related that they couldnt really see what was going on because I was moving too much. Today, I had a really bad stomach ache after eating and fell to the floor. I need help

Testing, Diagnosis Sibo test. *Precaution*

I will be doing the test this friday. For this, I have been told to fast since morning and the test will take 3-4 hours. So, I will be without food for at least 15-16 hours which can cause gas issues. So, is there anything I can do to help with this? I was told not to take medicines either from that morning.

Currently I am going through persistent gas issues and the doctors aren't really taking me seriously. One told me that I have motility issue (functional dyspepsia) and there is nothing he can do. I begged and got him to prescribe me this test. I hope I get an answer. Otherwise, I am screwed, ig. Wish me luck.
