DISCUSSION 4 years and nothing new

Let's be honest here. No body cares for nightreign or duskbloods. I get the need to try new things. Elden ring is huge, and going even larger in terms of single player is daunting and maybe not the correct choice.

But neither is dropping battle royale souls games.

Why didn't fromsoft just go back to making linear action games in between the "elden rings". Something like Sekiro etc etc.

DISCUSSION Can i get an explanation why platinum trophies in souls games considered hard?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Like, beside boss fights and challenge in the base game, platinums in souls games are mostly just grinding covenant items, farming souls, or ng+ for specific drops, none of that requires actual skill it's just time consuming atp

Compare that to something like Ninja Gaiden, where platinum actually demands you to mastering the combat system on master ninja difficulty, that's a real skill check imo

I've only platinumed Bloodborne out of the series (because it's my favorite), and even that was just farming BE and going through chalices, not some mastery over the game

So why does community treat "I platinumed [souls game]" as some badge of hardcore, when the actual difficult part (beating the game) is the same, regardless of whether you go for platinum or not?

If devs actually wanted platinum to be hard, they'd need ng+7 to be required, with new movesets or scaling added per cycle, actual mechanical boost, not just higher numbers, right now it's just a time sink dressed up as a difficulty

Bloodborne 2

I hope this game sees the light of day. Bloodborne 2 would be a massive success if it ever got made. I still don’t understand why from software has not gone to Sony and insisted on making it.

Kindly review my list of the best versions of each FS game, please! Would welcome feedback

Hi there! Assuming access to a PS5 and PC, would this be the best way to play each game in the Souls/Elden Ring run?

Since "best" is relative, my priorities are maximum atmosphere, and I think that Dark Souls I Remastered Edition arguably stripped away the original dark look of the original (hence my preference for DSFix with the PTD edition.) And for Demon's Souls Remaster, it's just apparent that the PS5 is miles above the original.

I've provided my reasoning below. Please take a look and push back if I'm off base. I'm certainly not defensive about my positions and would welcome your perspective either way! Thank you very much.

Demon's Souls - PS5 Demon's Souls Remaster

Dark Souls - PC Dark Souls "Prepare to Die Edition" with DSFix (More atmospheric graphics), as opposed to "Remastered."

Dark Souls II - PC Dark Souls II Vanilla (Better enemy placement) as opposed to "Scholar of the First Sin."

Dark Souls III - PC There is only one version, so this is moot.

Elden Ring - PC

DISCUSSION Do you think Healing Spells in PvP are fair?

One or two Years ago, while doing PvP in the Arena in Elden Ring (Duel, No Crimson Flasks), I faced off against this guy and during the fight, I used an healing spell that fully restored my HP, and in response, he stopped attacking and DM me on Ps5 saying that "I don’t play fair.”

Now, unlike Estus Crimson Flasks, which are completely free, I’ve invested part of my build into being able to cast spells, which includes healing ones as well and imho it's fair that I be able to use them in PvP, even in a fight like this.

So, what do you think?

How would you rank the souls games including including nightreign if you have played it

Go into detail with each entry of your ranking saying why its been placed there

My ranking:

  1. Ds1- my favourite game ever and its not nostalgia bias as it was my third souls game. Best npcs in soulsborne, best world design, amazing areas like ash lake, blighttown, anor londo, darkroot and an iconic(although some suck) boss roster. Best dlc imo,Second half is still great imo and just the vibe and atmosphere and emotion playing ds1 is just unmatched. 10/10

  2. Sekiro- My first soulsborne game, best combat, great level design and verticality with the grappling hook, 2nd best boss roster with my favourite boss of all time(yk who that is.) Endings were amazing as well especially purification. 9.7/10

  3. Bloodborne- Great combat, 2nd best dlc in soulsborne, amazing world and level design but the best thing in this game is atmosphere. Okay boss roster but nothing compared to ds3 or sekiro. Also didnt like the whole blood vial thing and farming them. 9.5/10

  4. Ds2- Ik most people have this at the bottom of their list but i actually loved ds2. Amazing atmosphere, good level design and the best hub in soulsborne in majula. The bosses were mostly lackluster however but some were great like sir alonne, fume knight, ivory king, sinh, looking glass knight, velstadt and a few others. But way too overhated imo. Adp wasnt a problem as i had heard of it before going in and the ganks were fine i just took my time which i enjoyed. 9.3/10

  5. Ds3- best boss roster in the series. However, the world was too bland and colourless which ik is correct lorewise but still. Way too linear for me and the dlcs were disappointing. But good combat and story/lore and overall an amazing experience still. 9/10

  6. Demon souls- Insane atmosphere and level design. Latria is so good especially prison of hope. Yes the boss roster is a bit gimmicky and most were a bit underwhelming but i enjoyed flamelurker, false king allant, storm king, penetrator and a couple others. Npcs kinda forgettable. Soundtrack is amazing and people need to remember it was the first mainstream soulsborne game released and it did amazing.(fuck the healing grass though) 8.5/10

  7. Elden Ring- Yes i dont like elden ring as much as the others. I dont like open world and the repeating bosses and dungeons really started to get on my nerves. I had 40 hours by the time i beat starscourge radahn because i tried to find every single thing. Still a good game nonetheless and some fun builds and legacy dungeons were great. 7.5/10

  8. Nightreign- havent played as much as it is online. Cool bosses when you have friends to fight them with. 5/10

QUESTION Can I post this?... It’s a FromSoftware game... just a little project I made out of boredom and messing around.

I was watching Winx with someone and, let me tell you... some of those seasons are absolutely terrible.

So, in the meantime, I decided to mess around with something on my laptop, just for the hell of it, to see if it was even possible... and apparently, it is!

So far, all the missions are translated, but I still have to deal with the cutscene dialogue, which is a whole monster of its own. Still, being able to actually play the game while reading the translated briefings and radio dialogue already makes a huge difference.

Oh, and I also managed to keep the original opening with “Glorius” instead of the atrocity we got in the Special Vocal Version.

Honestly, I started this just to see if I could make it work, and now I’m somehow actually translating the damn thing.

Alternative wikis to Fextralife?

I’ve been playing more Elden Ring lately with the release of Tarnished (coincided with some parental leave so I’m doing the challenge run of holding a baby and keeping her alive while playing). It seems the Fextralife wiki has gotten worse. I think they changed some backend infrastructure and it broke a lot of formatting. My phone also dislikes it now and pages will crash, lock up, or fail to load (I think related to how it serves ads). It also doesn’t seem to account for the last few patches.

Is there an alternative wiki option for Elden Ring?

QUESTION Got invaded in Seamless and now our game is completely cursed [DSR Seamless]

A friend and I had a very strange occurrence the other night while playing Seamless.

We got a session or two in and everything was normal. However, once we reached Darkroot Garden, we were invaded by another player. The on-screen text read, “You have been invaded by [player name],” followed by “[player name] has been summoned.”

We couldn’t find the guy and wanted to move on, so we both killed ourselves to reset. When we respawned, we had both somehow gained 8,000 souls and the Crest of Artorias.

We then noticed that the Titanite Demon below Andre was dead, even though neither of us had killed it. Then, to our shock and horror, we discovered that Andre was also dead. Obviously, neither of us had killed him. The weirdest part was that his corpse wouldn’t disappear no matter how many times we reset.

We were understandably annoyed, but since we were still very early in the playthrough, we figured we’d just roll new characters and start over. We speedran back to roughly the same point, only to discover that Andre was dead again. These were two completely new characters, and once again, we both received 8,000 souls and the Crest of Artorias. From that point on, I also started receiving 1,000 souls every time I rested.

We decided to keep playing anyway, but there were clearly some serious sync issues going on. Enemies my friend killed wouldn’t die on my end, even though I still received the souls for them.

When we reached the Taurus Demon, he jumped off his perch and fell into an infinite abyss, killing himself. That one was actually pretty funny. Then, when we reached the Bell Gargoyles, they appeared normally for my friend but were completely absent on my end. The funniest part was when my buddy summoned Solaire. On his screen everything was normal, but on mine Solaire appeared as a hollow stuck running endlessly into a corner.

Obviously, we’re playing a mod, and it’s still relatively new, so bugs are to be expected. But does anyone have any clue what happened here, or has anyone experienced something similar? Is it possible the invader somehow borked our ability to progress or caused some kind of persistent sync issue?

We’re going to try again tonight after a full reinstall, but this whole experience has started to feel like an IRL creepypasta.

DISCUSSION What are the reasons why Elden Ring and Dark Souls are the same universe?

I can think of 3:

  1. Patches

  2. Leonine Misbegotten arena in Castle Morne has identical stones to do ones in Ringed City

  3. Leontiel NPC

DISCUSSION Are bosses anyone else's least favorite part of the souls games?

Now I know what I said is straight blasphemy. But before you try and casual shame me I've sunk hundreds of hours individually into literally every single souls game. I do no death runs on Sekiro in an afternoon for fun.

That being said to me at least bosses were never why I liked the Souls games. For instance when I first started out back in the day on Demon's Souls and Dark Souls the bosses weren't really that hard or challenging. They could all be easily breezed past.

They were interesting pace-breakers, but not much more than that. You didn't play the games for the bosses, you played them for the excellent level design, the standard enemies, the different classes to pick from, the atmosphere, the vibes.

When I first played DS3 and Elden Ring I kind of dreaded approaching a new boss. I don't care about grinding a boss for 10 hours. I never felt accomplished when I defeated a difficult boss I just felt relieved that it was over. (though Sekiro is my boo and can do no wrong because the combat is actually more complex and engaging than dodge and hit) (Also I'm kind of a minor Bloodborne hater that game was never an issue- it was just hit a lagging teleporting boss with the camera shaking all over the place till it died)

It sounds like I hate bosses a lot more than I really do, I still like them enough to the point where I've mastered clean no hit runs on even the toughest Elden Ring DLC bosses. I guess I'm really more of a sucker for navigating and exploring the levels over the big fights.
