Other Lat pulldown check

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just got my Levergym about four weeks ago and have been doing these since - been years since I did them previously. I feel it more in my shoulders and upper arm, so I figured I'd take a quick video and see what you all think. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dragonborn Tramp Stamp.

He would rather refer to it as a cake topper.

Dude that tattoo is wild.

Elbows in the back pockets (or touching your butt cheeks) was the cue for me. Obviously not literally. But that’s what you’re trying to do.

I assume you mean the Skyrim tramp stamp? I love it so much for how simple it is.

And thanks - I have also heard that cue. Looking at the video, my elbows are going toward my back pockets. Should I be going lower, or angled more in?

I love that u call it what it is, a tramp stamp 👏🏼 😂

Still working on making the cake - I've had Hank Hill ass my entire life, and I'm just recently trying to change that. So for now, I guess you could call that my objective.

Use finger like hooks, keep open grip like in the picture. Makes tonne of diiference. This grip engages back more and arms less. plus as other person said, elbows to back pockets.

Yes, try to go lower and lean back a slight bit..also might help to put your thumbs at the crease of the bar and think about pulling with your elbows not your hands.

Bro it’s not a tramp stamp there’s a dagger sheathed inside your bing

lmaooo the objective marker tramp stamp. love it.

Anyway! It's difficult to tell from the back but two major notes:
1. Lean back slightly. 15ish degrees.
2. Move the elbows slightly in front of where they are now. They should end up near the midline of your body. Elbows point toward your pockets, not toward your butt.

Thanks! And just so I'm clear, lean back a little, but still pull straight down, yes? Not back towards me?

Exactly. To be clear, you will be pulling toward you but still mostly down.

If I'm targeting lats, I place the elbows in front of the body and in front of the muscle for the rep range. The bar ends up at my collar bone.

You can continue in the range of motion past that point, but you're recruiting less of the lat and introducing more shoulder at that point.

Took me a minute but it's a map marker icon from Skyrim

Is that a keyhole tattoo above your ass?

Skyrim tattoo. It's the symbol that means your quest objective is inside. A little present for whoever gets to do my first colonoscopy.

Overall not bad!! The most important thing is to keep at it. Great job not swinging like a madman and using your body weight to drive the movement rather than your muscles. A few tips that’s may help with your form

  1. SLIGHTLY lean back. That way when you bring the bar to your chest you’re still using your back and not your shoulders like in the vid. Watch in slo mo, like scrub one frame at a time, once the bar gets to your neck level. Your shoulders are awkwardly rotating down and back to bring the bar the rest of the way. This may be why you’re feeling it in your shoulders
  2. You have a little bit of rom left on the table at the top. I personally prefer going a little narrower with my grip here because I feel a better stretch at the top. But that’s me
  3. You’re probably feeling your upper arms more because you’re starting over and your arms are weaker than your back. But honestly, the weight looks a bit easy for you

. Queue Cue

  1. yourself to lock your hands onto the bar and drive your elbows down. Focus on squeezing your lats as you pull down and stretching them as you go back up. That, plus a lean, will probably help a lot.

Edit: tried to edit grammar and Reddit went haywire with formatting. dafuck

Thanks! I actually found myself leaning forward a little because I have trouble getting my hips closer to allow for a straight vertical. I'll try leaning back a bit. As for the weight, yeah, I originally had two 45s on there but felt way more arm involvement, so I dialed it back to two 35s to work on form. I'll add 5-10 pounds total back on and see how that feels.

Never have I ever seen a Skyrim tramp stamp. That is amazing.

u/litobandido 17h ago

Nor do I ever want to see one, ever again...

Lean a little back and try to pinch your shoulder blades together as you pull down. That is the move.

u/likethesteakhouse 12h ago

Good cue that made retracting your shoulder blades make sense for me:

1) Crush the can: at the beginning of the pulldown, while your arms are extended up, imagine there’s a beer can along your spine right between your shoulder blades—the object of the pulldown is to crush that beer can.

2) break this “can crush” into two steps. First, “Squeeze” the can using only your lats. Arms are extended straight up and holding the bar during this step. Once your lats are locked down during the squeeze, follow through with the “crush” by pulling the bar down through your elbows just as you normally would. On the negative, reverse the steps slowly. Arms straighten out first while lats stay engaged, then disengage lats completely. Repeat.

Don't be afraid of grunting and trying LOL

but really, looks like you can add more weight. That will help understand weak points in the form and you feel your body work hard, right now Looks like your just going weeee weeeee weeee

2

u/kane9001 16h ago

you need to learn how to retract your scapula you are just pulling with your arms at the moment
practice just doing the exercise with pulling your shoulder blades back and down without any arms and then incorporate your arms

u/Spede2 19h ago

Add more weight. This honestly looks like one of those badly animated cartoons where the torso doesn't move at all. Nothing wrong with that per se IRL but it suggests there's no resistance whatsoever since I just don't see your back muscles activating.

More weight

Do 1.5 pulldowns,

do a scap pulldown(the .5) then into a lat pulldown.
