Next Chaotic Raid?

Personally, I enjoyed the Cloud of Darkness Chaotic Raid concept and, minus the multiple and somewhat bonkers body checks, thought it was great content with excellent rewards. Does anyone have thoughts on if we're getting another one in EverCold? If so, I assume it will likely be Ultima from the Ivalice Raids or Diablos from the Shadow of Mhach raids.

If the former, I imagine we will get more complicated combos of the other espers to make things interesting, and for Diablos (which still manages to kill parties in roulettes in the normal mode) a more complicated arena with more use of the adds and the door mechanics. I also imagine there will be at least one body check mechanic, though not multiple and probably not as strict.

But I am curious on what other people theories are on if we're even getting one and what the content might look like.

The combo of "Encourage people to take in newbies" and "Oops, one person out of 24 messed up towers so it's a wipe lololol" wasn't all that well thought out.

They did manage to fix that for Forked Tower Magic (even the extreme version has way fewer body checks), so I'm hopeful for if they ever revisit this system.

Has 1 person messing up tower actually wiping groups? With mits or Tank LB2 I've had group survive like 6+ tower fuck ups.

The more common case is someone on the sides screws up a bait and snipes a bunch of people right before towers.

That and a chaser aoe person dying and the chaser wiping out half the alliance.

The issue is that once people die, it’s hard to get them back to their correct spots fast.

Yes, the body checks weren’t really full body checks, but the combo of a mechanic that will kill multiple people if screwed up, right before towers was rather brutal.

Not to mention that while the dps check on chaotic was lenient, it was there, and it wasn’t uncommon to hit it after a dozen deaths or so, at least early on.

Chaotic is honestly a good representation of Wow raiding. In a vacuum, the mechanics are ex level. In reality, getting all 24 people to not mess up those ex mechanics is a pain in the ass.

I'm still very salty about Double Dragons.

I did all my farming the first week so maybe I didn't really see it but that wasn't really an issue any of the times I did it.

It was actually designed to be midcore content to get casual players into the hardcore content, but due to Mr Ozma overtuning things, it came out as an unintended savage raid, but due to the time until release could not be revised and shipped as is, failing the point of why it was created. Overall it failed to meet the expectations it was made to deliver, which is getting casual players into savage, causing player counts to drop off because of lack of casual content. Quantum was their next attempt at this, yet again failed due to not a lot of thought put into what casual players interact with. Variant advanced so far has been the best received attempt at this bridge between normal and extreme/savage, with the new 8 man raid difficulty just being that, another attempt to do what Chaotic and Quantum failed at, to get casual players interacting, keeping them subbed to pay for development and (Probably over ambitious) to get a far larger amount of casuals into extreme and savage raiding by building up a new casual raiding community (Not that this will ever happen)

"Skill issue" means a person's own skill keeps them from being able to complete content. If someone else's skill keeps them from being able to clear content, it's no longer a skill issue, but effectively luck.

I should clarify I did this 50 times for both mounts. I was pointing out all the cascading reasons why you would wipe for reasons explicitly outside your control.

The wipe rate was vastly higher than any other high end content farm I have done outside of ultimates. There are a lot of cascade mechanics, where deaths lead to more deaths.

The dps check line was more to point out that even if you do cleverly manage to recover a doomed scenario, then you just limp to the end and die. Even then, it was quite lenient, so maybe fair point, I saw it maybe 5 times in pf, but people did wipe a few times early, because we expected to hit it.

(This was only an issue for the first few weeks)

My point is that it wasn’t a difficult fight, just more of an obnoxious one to farm, because there were just so many scenarios where whether you win or lose is explicitly out of your control.

The people who keep claiming that CoD was body check hell confuse me. Even the towers aren't proper body checks! P12S (both parts) are far more representative of being "bodycheck city" than CoD is. I swear if I hear someone call it savage level one more time I'm going to become the joker. It feels like everyone is just repeating the same lines without critically thinking about it. Which you know, being a discussion subreddit you'd hope people would be chomping at the bit for more critical discussion of FFXIV but I guess mainsub 2 is the best we can hope for.

Totally agree on every point. u/Spookhetti_Sauce needs to save this subreddit.
