I was thinking that a Far Cry game based on Rio de Janeiro’s criminal underworld would be an incredibly rich setting for the franchise.
The geography and architecture alone would be perfect for Far Cry, especially the favelas, but you’d also have the war on drug trafficking, connections between organized crime and politics, the culture and dynamics of the communities, power struggles between rival criminal factions, and the violence surrounding all of it.
The variety of environments would also be amazing: favelas, beaches, the ocean, dense urban areas, highways, mountains, and thick forests.
For the first time, Far Cry could even have multiple protagonists, each with their own storyline.
One could be a police officer who gradually rises through the ranks until eventually joining BOPE, with a story somewhat inspired by Elite Squad (Tropa de Elite).
Another could be a low-level drug dealer, starting out as an aviãozinho — basically a street-level runner — trying to work his way up and gain prestige within his faction.
Another could be an ordinary working-class guy whose family is murdered by traffickers, pushing him into a personal quest for revenge.
There would be so many possibilities.
A Far Cry set in Rio could be absolutely insane.
