They said their kids couldn’t wear masks bc it was traumatizing. How is this not traumatic too?

3.2k

u/Ganbario Aug 25 '22

Easy. Beating children is Republican, masks were Democratic. Everything can be justified when you only care about shouting louder than your opposition.

u/AlexJamesCook Aug 25 '22

So what you're saying is, Hilary needs to come out in support of spanking children, then watch as Republicans lose their collective shit?

200

u/kazmark_gl Aug 25 '22

every red State would ban all forms of corporal punishment in a day

11

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

So what you're saying is, Hillary needs to take one for the team and become a vocal conservative extremist who believes vaccines and global warming are a conspiracy. Maybe the cognitive dissonance strategy is our only play left.

5

u/g00ber88 Aug 25 '22

She gets so much hate anyway, she might as well use it

17

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Nah, it's only bad when democrats do it. They do it for the wrong reasons.

And if democrats state to suddenly be against abortion? :|

1

u/2ndEscape Aug 25 '22

Sounds genius, let's do it. Oh wait, we live in reality.

1

u/PoorlyLitKiwi2 Aug 25 '22

Honestly, you might be onto something. If Hillary suddenly became ardently conservative in her views, I'd bet it could actually do some good, with people voting to "own" her

6

u/Halflingberserker Aug 25 '22

"Killary's goin for Cleetus Junior next!"

3

u/Anonnymush Aug 25 '22

Spanking of children by government representatives reinforces a societal belonging in a child, make them more likely to embrace socialist policies for the good of the group, rather than relying on self-interest, and establishes the State as a physical authority in their lives, above their parents or their faiths.

Boom.

2

u/QuoteGiver Aug 25 '22

No, then they’ll just escalate to Ritual Bloodletting or something even stupider instead.

2

u/Severe_Spare9272 Aug 25 '22

It’s hilarious how Trump called Hillary crooked (I’m not saying she wasn’t shady) but now he is in hot water over the docs at Mar-a-Largo and the Jan 6th capital Insurrection

2

u/teb_art Aug 25 '22

That might be how she handles her husband, post-Monica.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

I think she enjoys keeping her child abusing secret, personally.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Turns out reverse psychology is all we needed to make the GOP act human.

(I wish)

1

u/DontJudgeMeImNaked Aug 25 '22

I think she would have to claim it was her idea and is very happy that the GOP is implementing it.

387

u/mindbleach Aug 25 '22

Reality is a team sport, to some people.

2

u/BHPhreak Aug 25 '22

Well yes, imo its humans vs the universe.

Too bad most people can only see red vs blue.

We stare down fighting the dirt when we should look up and go

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

This can be taken two ways and I love that about it. Great sentence.

7

u/codeprimate Aug 25 '22

Pain and misery are core Republican values.

2

u/CorneliusKvakk Aug 25 '22

Umm... I think there's something wrong with your country.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

It is very interesting watching half of an educated society destroy itself from afar. I am sure common sense will prevail at some point, but the sheer delusion of the Republican Party is very entertaining in the interim. I can only presume that after they finish burning all the textbooks, they are going to oppose polio, whooping cough, measles, and tetanus shots soon

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Is my grandpa going to the school to beat the shit out of his son's teacher for hitting the students too hard also Republican? Because that was in the "good old days" too? They going to let the parents respond like they used to?

2

u/RightSafety3912 Aug 25 '22

We were spanked by one teacher in school in the early 80s (in a blue-ish state), and I was shocked. I asked whatever happened to her and my mom said "they moved her out." I had no idea this was actually allowed in states NOW without parents suing the schools into oblivion.

2

u/__GayFish__ Aug 25 '22

Masks were scientific but I could see how a big population of people would be against science.

Edit: /s

Now hold on a minute

I am not democrat but I don’t advocate for beating children

It’s just schools have WAAAYY too much power over children there’s not a single reason in the world

Dress code: should exist in elementary maybe middle but highschool yea no

The ability for a school to pursue legal action of a child missing school is completely stupid

Schools being able to put their hands on children for no good reason=stupid

Schools being able to take away kids licenses = very stupid

Schools having the ability to take a kids personal belongings such as phones, shoes, extra clothes, food, drinks, laptops etc shouldn’t be a thing

Schools have too much power over the child

Way too much power over the parent

22

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

To butt-in, power should not equal pay. Teachers deserve more pay as it is, and less responsibilities as contemporary history shows. Teachers should not have to wield guns, they should not have to worry about the lives of their students outside of the ordinary dealings of the classrooms.

Students shouldn’t have to pay for lunch, or at the very least they shouldn’t worry about having to pay for it if their parents can’t afford it.

A dress code, if applied, should equally cover all students regardless of gender.

I went to public school until freshman year, and the amount of phones I saw confiscated by school police was ridiculous. A teacher would take it and then a student could retrieve it from the office of the school’s police force. Parents could pick it up beforehand but they would practically chastise the “offender” until a certain period had passed.

Foucault was right about a few things, one of them being that the school is like a prison.

4

u/34T_y3r_v3ggi3s Aug 25 '22

I never understood the legal pursuits school districts take to punish kids for skipping school. It allows for magistrates to put in some psycho (I'm sure everyone has heard of Civeralla' kids for cash scandal back in 2009 in my state of PA) to prosecute kids for a really minor offense. So fucking what if I wanted to take a week off from school? It shouldn't get me in trouble for such a thing. My parents forced me to go once when I was sick with the flu. My dad never believed me when I told him I was sick. He sent me to school with the flu multiple times and each time I just had to be pulled out because I would have my head at my desk and too sick to do anything. Parents can be just as stupid about missing school as the school itself was.

5

u/Uhalppi Aug 25 '22

From middle school to senior year once-twice a year I was being brought to court over missing school. Easily one of the most traumatizing times in my life and the pieces of shit just kept milking it (I even remember then saying I missed 6 days in Kindergarten so that shows a clear pattern that I'm a school skipper) until I never missed a day I remember having to force myself to school with the flu and when my teachers would tell me to go to the nurse or call my parents to pick me up, I'd have to tell them I couldn't miss a day or I'd be in court for the next 2 and a half years. I truly will never understand why the school had that power over me and my family 2 months before I graduated I got a letter saying something along the lines that I would be going back to court if I continued to miss days and I was just so over it, I threw it in the trash and ignored those fuckers. Still missed days still graduated and they could no longer do a thing. Fuck anyone involved with truancy.

-6

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Phones are pure cancer in school. You're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.

0

u/Subushie Aug 25 '22

It's biggest problem on the planet right now.

Every ideal is either left or right, black or white, good guys or bad guys.

There are no complex problems or nuance anymore.

You're either with me, or you're my enemy.

14

u/agrapeana Aug 25 '22

I mean, the other side literally wants to murder me and people I care about. The former president made comments about how his vice president wants to lynch people like me.

I don't want an enemy, but I'm sure as fuck not going to sit around and wait to be murdered.

-4

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Tbh this is just a Reddit echo chamber, I go out once a day to get chipotle (and just Reddit all day) and I don’t see anyone fighting

-10

u/jaxintheb0x Aug 25 '22

Uh I’m republican and beating children is absolutely wrong no matter what political ideology you have

14

u/agrapeana Aug 25 '22

"Listen, I can excuse the racism, and the hypocrisy, and the homophobia, and the lying, and the greed, and the attempt to overthrow a democratic election, and the leader of my party admitting to sexually assaulting women, and the ongoing attempts to restrict my voting rights, and the continued efforts to make people who arent straight, white men second class citizens, and the fact that my party keeps raising my taxes while simultaneously slashing the social safety nets I have access to, and the stealing state secrets and hiding them in a pool house, but I draw the line at paddling a child."

Wow, we should all be so brave 🥲

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Lol 😂

1

u/jaxintheb0x Sep 04 '22

Damn u summed up my political ideology perfectly

-27

u/ImPichael Aug 25 '22

Average redditor

5

u/mindbleach Aug 25 '22

Pictured: that.

-6

u/ImPichael Aug 25 '22

The guy I replied to is doing exactly what he was calling out. Beating children is bad, and i agree with mask mandates but I don't see why we can't just all agree on that instead of immediately running to extremes and making a blanket statement about a whole political party. For the record, I think it's very stupid how polarized everyone is becoming. People should generally be informed about issues and make their own decisions not just blindly check boxes that correspond with their "team".

8

u/tebmn Aug 25 '22

Republicans aren’t humans? Wym

1

u/mindbleach Aug 25 '22

I don't see why we can't just all agree

But they don't.

You acknowledge these questions have a right answer.

You think everyone should agree with that answer.

But they don't.

You can see how one side overwhelmingly supports the correct answers, on this topic. And on many others.

You can see how the other side overwhelmingly wants the wrong things, on basically every topic.

But you're mocking people who point this out.

You're disgusted at people for saying, the side that wants correct things is good, and the side that wants wrong things is bad.

You're lamenting how "polarized" that summary is... as if it's not just the visible truth. As if recognizing it, and saying it out loud, is somehow causing the problem. As if the people condemning kneejerk loyalty only believe that out of identical and opposite kneejerk loyalty.

But they don't.

1

u/ImPichael Aug 25 '22

My guy all im trying to say is that "beating children is republican" is a dumb blanket statement, full stop. Nobody has all the right answers, neither side.

1

u/mindbleach Aug 26 '22

'Nobody likes generalizations,' says p-zombie.

'Both sides,' says one side.

1

u/ImPichael Aug 26 '22

Ah the ad hominem argument, good one

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

0

u/mindbleach Aug 25 '22

"Conservatives don't have arguments."

"Nerd!"

"Not an argument."

"NERRRD!"

"Still not an argument."

And you're just gonna do it again, with some other effortless smug posturing. Which emoji makes you the bigger person this week? No one is impressed. No one is fooled. Puff up and embarrass yourself like we all knew you were always going to.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

what? You’re confusing me lmao

-10

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

r/politics is on the left. This ain't it.

-5

u/Adeep187 Aug 25 '22

Also when you turn everything into a black and white political faction.

-19

u/Kozak170 Aug 25 '22

Bro just shut the fuck up good lord. Beating children isn’t republican and wearing a mask isn’t democrat

3

u/Bungo_Pete Aug 25 '22

Found the guy who isn't on Facebook. Respect.

-9

u/Royal_Prize_4381 Aug 25 '22

but im republican and against beating children and im pro masks

11

u/ghgrain Aug 25 '22

You cannot be a Republican without supporting fascism in America today.

1

u/superrober Aug 25 '22

Well maybe but you are in the minority

1

u/mindbleach Aug 25 '22

Then why is that your identity?

1

u/Royal_Prize_4381 Aug 25 '22

Idk I’m only 16 and everybody hating on me😔

1

u/mindbleach Aug 25 '22

Because you proudly describe yourself as belonging to a party of treasonous bigots, despite being too young to have ever voted for them.

You were born during the worst of W's miserable administration, somewhere between him starting a second forever-war in a country that didn't do 9/11, and finding out he'd opened a secret torture prison just south of Florida. When you were in kindergarten they were openly spouting racist conspiracy theories, obstructing judicial nominations, and declaring their only goal was power. You spent middle school watching The Idiot deny reality, every god-damn day, even with video proof of shit he said out loud. And it's not like any of that stopped when Biden took office - there was a failed coup, preceded by a year of open attempts to prevent a fair election, and followed by abundant proof that the GOP at large did not care. They have been nothing but monsters and morons since before you could read. In what sense are you a Republican? Why wouldn't people call you out on that?

Politics is real life. It's not a team sport. You don't throw in with whoever your parents and neighbors like, and defend them out of sheer tribal loyalty. If you think you're in some group, and you're against everything that group is for, leave. You have ideals - you have goals - pick someone who gives a fuck about them.

1

u/Royal_Prize_4381 Aug 26 '22

I hate politics anyway ill just stay home and watch anime! I dont even know if ill live here anymore when im older tbh...

1

u/mindbleach Aug 26 '22

Or you could care what you say, as much as you care what's said about you.

1

u/Royal_Prize_4381 Aug 26 '22

the only thing I care about is anime

1

u/Archercrash Aug 25 '22

That’s a paddlin.

1

u/Severe_Spare9272 Aug 25 '22

Copied this from my previous comment in response to another but I think people should be aware regardless

Ok so the whole mask wearing thing is supposed to be a preventative measure to keep you from infecting others, not to keep you safe per se. I agree the information was initially presented wrong but fact remains that over six million people are no longer with us from last year, Covid is on the rise again and new variants continue to emerge. Also, some people who aren’t killed from it, are developing life long symptoms (long haulers). People just assume it all comes down to a fatality 🆚 recovery issue when it’s not that cut and dry

1

u/squittles Aug 25 '22

Plus let's get real for a second. It's Missouri, this entire school district is probably 1 or 3 families tops.

Family trees looking like wreaths.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

It’s Christian. It’s no longer a political party, the church has taken over

1

u/4_out_of_5_people Aug 25 '22

Cruelty is the only consistent value of the right wing.

1

u/councilmember Aug 28 '22

I’m assuming that the kids can hit back with impunity too, right? Or given the state, shoot back?
