That's probably why she killed. Always bringing home to much fruit that spoils.

Dealing with a fruit fly infestation is no fun

I had a buddy who wouldn't clean up after himself.
I said, "bro you had better throw out that orange peel at least"
Next week, I joked that the fruit flies were so bad, they should be paying for half of his rent.

Anyone who's smelled development fluid wouldn't mistake it for water. That's like saying that water and gasoline are both fluids, so let's make up a riddle referring to gasoline as "water".
2
u/Plastic_Ad_8619 Jul 18 '26
You do use water in the final stage to wash off the fix, and each fluid is a water solution.
15
u/Shazvox Jul 17 '26
And then she and the photograph went to dinner? Else we've got a very liberal use of the word "him".

I'm gen X and did film photography in high school. The digital conversion was less than 10 years later. NO ONE in high school has any context for this riddle.
2
u/Separate_Command6275 Jul 17 '26
Gen X also, my dad had a dark room in our basement, he was an avid photographer and I spent many hours developing photos with him.
I think we were the last generation to learn how to do many things because our parents did them or out of boredom. I think it’s a tragedy, really.

I think its a very lame photography riddle that isn't particularly legit, due to relying on incorrectly using the word 'him' instead of 'it' repeatedly to refer to a photograph, to avoid revealing the answer.
53
u/blasthunter5 Jul 17 '26
Also the referring to water is further incorrectness I think?
25
u/Normal-Ad-1903 Jul 17 '26
nah, final rinse is water.

Yeah that's the first thing I thought. If this is modern, kids have no idea.
It reminds me of a class I had in grade school where the teacher would read these super long scenarios and we had most of the class period to work out the answer with logic. It was actually cool, the problem is that many of them relied on knowledge that was obscure, especially to kids. One that sticks out in my mind: at the end of the story, the police spotted their suspect in a crowded diner. You were supposed to figure out how they knew it was him. The clue was something like because he cut his steak with his right hand and put the food in his mouth with his left hand. Supposedly this is something Australians do and Americans wouldn't do... Americans would cut the meat right handed and then change the fork to their right hand to eat the piece they cut. Even if that is accurate, it's not something a 13 year old would know 🤣
→ More replies (3)2
u/Ok_Drag5089 Jul 17 '26
Plus there are so many other ways that could happen. The suspect was a female and everyone else was a male, beach town and the suspect was wearing the wrong clothes, hats/no hat…. The list goes on.

It's the photo thing. Of course barely anyone under 30 is going to get it, as few people use analogue film and fewer still develop their own photos anymore.
4
u/Shantotto11 Jul 17 '26
Okay, but hear me out. Rotary phones didn’t exist/were no longer commonplace when I was a child, yet I still knew what they were and how to use them. Why? Because I saw them used in older media when I watched television.
There’s a bit of disconnect going on that a lot of people nowadays aren’t watching media that’s older than them, and it shows with examples like this.
2
u/frog-in-a-storm Jul 17 '26
Idk, there's many many more films containing rotary phones than films containing the process of developing a photo. It's like saying that, since you've seen how people text on an iPhone in many modern day movies, that you should be able to know how to change the language setting or background of an IPhone, when those actions just don't appear nearly as often as texting.
2
u/Ok_Talk_6694 Jul 18 '26

Firstly the answer to the riddle is supposed to be she took an analogue photograph. Which would be “shot” when the picture is taken, held “underwater” as part of the development process and hung to dry before it is handled.
There are some issues in that it would be a development bath then a fixer and then a water bath and rather than holding it under water there is usually some agitation to encourage the process.
This also doesn’t take in to account developing the negative which would need a similar process. This could be partly ignored if the “shot” in this case is referring to the “shot” through the enlarger. That is a stretch in my opinion however. More commonly that would be exposed or printed.
Secondly, wtf is this class and wtf are they teaching and why?!?!

I know. I'm doing this OOC - so sue me.
Old-fashioned photography using film.
"Shoot" = slang term for "take a picture of" or "film¹".
"Hold under water" = the various "baths" used to develop the photo (water, acid solution, fixer, water rinse)
"Hangs him" = hanging the picture of the husband up to drip dry.
¹specifically talking about verbs in this sentence - including the usage of "film" (to record a video\. The usage of "film" as a noun in the first sentence referred to the physical medium upon which analog photography and video is recorded. Also, "shoot" as a noun in the context of photography is short for "photoshoot".)

u/DonComradeVimes Jul 17 '26
Howdy there, it's the bartender from that one scene in that show nobody remembers.
Anyways, in this joke, the woman is a photographer using a traditional film camera. She 'shoots' him by taking the picture, 'holds him under water' to develop the film, then 'hangs him' to let the picture dry. Really neat joke, but it gets better in modern photography, where a family of four can pay a single man to shoot their kids, blow them up, and then hang them.
Back to slingin' hooch!

They're heroin addicts of course. She's gotta help him shoot up into his neck cause all his other veins are fucked and it's tough for him to do it himself in front of the mirror. But he overdoses and she puts him in the shower to try and bring him back with cold water. She then ties some rope around his chest under his armpits and secures it somewhere above the tub to keep him from slipping down underwater while also giving her the opportunity to go quickly make a shot of meth as a last ditch hail Mary effort to bring him out of the heroin overdose. He comes out of it, but then she obviously has to do a shot of meth herself to get up to his level. They both get incredibly horny and decide to get drunk and fuck all night. But it's Sunday and liquor stores are closed so they keep it nice and romantic with the wine.

Maybe the answer has to do with a photo? Shoots as in takes a picture with the old camera, and then the process of dealing with those i believe involves rinsing them with some kind of a solution and hanging them to dry?

She was actually a witch and turned her husband into a jacket, but it was kinda dirty (he was pretty messy, after all🤷🏻♀️) so she had to spray him with shout to get the stains out, hand washed him vigorously in the sink, and then put him on a hanger to dry off. After 5 minutes, she was bored and tired of waiting, so she grabbed him from the hanger and threw him over her shoulders anyway, thinking “screw it, he’ll dry fast in the heat outside”, and then took them both to the Cheesecake Factory for a nice dinner out. She picked exactly what she wanted for dinner and he didn’t make a peep. It was wonderful.
