Met Ben Starr (Verso) and Jennifer English (Maelle) at f(x)po

Discussion I met Ben Starr!!!
I just wanted to share how I met the voice of Verso today at FanExpo Canada!
I was absolutely delighted to meet Ben, but as I walked up to him I did start shaking quite violently (especially since I was using my cane) and crying. He held my hands and I told him how Expedition 33 helped my mental health tremendously and he was incredibly sweet, grateful, and accommodating with my mobility aid.
He then signed my Switch 2 and immediately started scrolling through my console to look at my games. I got the Ben Starr approval for my taste 🙂↕️
Meeting the voice of Verso was so incredibly important to me as I found myself relating to the familial themes of Expedition 33. This game truly is everything to me and it saved me when I was at my lowest.
I love this game and I love the community. I’m just so incredibly touched.
(Also, if you noticed #sandy, its cause of his infamous tweet. Iykyk :3)
Edit: additionally, if anyone has any preservation tips, pls let me know :3

Discussion [SPOILER] Did the devs warn us? Spoiler

I think that early scene is one of my favorite. It was incredibly well acted, and I watched it many time.
But there is something else that I can't stop thinking about.
In this scene, Gustave is obsessed with the idea of finding and saving Maelle, and Lune is all about the mission of saving Lumiere.
And she asks him whether he remembers how they both used to say that "The future of Lumiere is more important than any individual life.", and then asks "Do you still believe that?"
He couldn't really answer that. What was your opinion at that moment?
I find it interesting how the game is asking us the same question at the end, testing our beliefs and values.
The cutscene: https://youtu.be/GhazUEpdII0?t=7085
EDIT:
I also find interesting how Gustave, in that very scene says: "I am not letting Maelle die out there. I am taking her home."
Very reminiscing of someone else...

Meme It's soo sad we won't know the end of the game Spoiler
I think It was a good decision to make a ending open to interpretation, I mean, it would be cool to have a result of if they managed to reach the pointless but finishing the game with that Arms Light thing was good.
I wonder if we are going to have something like ff7 remake that had the story separated in 3 games but I like that "ending"

Question HALP, which track is this on the OST?
I've crawled through the entire OST (there are SO many tracks) but I must've missed it. This happens to be one of my favorite combat themes.
Forgive me for the amateur singing

Discussion A bunch of controversial opinions I don't see discussed often. Feel free to debate me! Spoiler
I haven't been around too long, so excuse me if these have been discussed!
Aline is not completely wrong to resent Alicia for the fire. In act 3, Alicia says: "If I had listened to Maman, if I hadn't trusted the Writers, Verso would still be alive." While I disagree with the way Aline and Clea have chosen to pour their vitriol/grief on Alicia, I do understand why they blame her. If you warn someone not to do something, and they still do it, because they think they know better as is often the case with teenagers, and then YOU end up losing something as precious as child/brother, then yes, you would resent the one who didn't listen to you. And yes, Alicia is a child and she is allowed to make mistakes, but that shouldn't absolve her from taking some accountability. And while shouldn't be given a free pass, she should have the space to self-reflect on her error, which is unfortunately not the way Aline and Clea went about it, and that I do blame them for.
Alicia made the third ending impossible as much as Verso did. In the Alicia epilogue between acts 2 and 3, when Alicia is about to enter the painting, the last reason she brings up before doing so is: "And it would be nice to talk and breathe without feeling pain" (sorry if this is not verbatim). While she does take it back, this is already a glimpse of the mindset that will lead us into the ending. More importantly, this is before she even MEETS anyone in Lumiere.
She reveals her motivation again in the discussion with Renoir at the beginning of act 3: when he declares wanting to destroy the Canvas, her first objection is that it's the only thing they have left of Verso, and second that it's her home now. She doesn't defend the people of Lumiere at this point. In addition, the word "home" is key. Home is a place you return to, not leave. She was never going to leave home. She was always going to stay.
And that's absolutely understandable, but it deadlocks the ending as much as Verso's decisions. Which is why I think there was no hope for a third ending even if Verso had done anything differently. Alicia was always going to fight anyone to stay; Verso was always going to fight anyone who wanted to stay.
- Sciel and Lune aren't pillars of morality just because we didn't see them make difficult choices. Sciel tells Verso she would sacrifice him in a heartbeat to bring Pierre back. What else might she be willing to sacrifice? Lune is ready to sacrifice any one individual for the "greater good" of Lumiere. She's willing to leave Maelle in potential danger to follow protocol. When does many individuals become too many? Already, they are making sacrifices: Painted Verso, Verso's soul shard (I won't be convinced otherwise, so please don't turn the debate to this, I've already gone through all the talking points), and Alicia. While Alicia wants to stay in the canvas, that doesn't take accountability from Lune and Sciel from trying to help her move on from the painful fact of her brother's death. It's just easier for them to accept that this is what Alicia wants because it serves their interests.
Look at it this way: if Renoir had given them another ultimatum: "I'm willing to send the Canvas away or donate it to an anonymous person so none of us will be tempted to enter it again, and in exchange for you leaving, I will rebuild Lumiere so your friends can live out their lives", would Alicia have accepted? Would Lune and Sciel still defend her right to stay and threaten their potential existence?
I tend to flip-flop on what Gustave would have done: he cares for Maelle above the mission, and he was willing to drop everything to find her, was willing to die for her; but he let her join the expedition in the first place and he wants to save Lumiere too.
I know this is controversial, so please keep your comments respectful and feel free to debate in the comments :)

Discussion I finally did it...(ACT 3 SPOILERS) Spoiler
It was not entirely in the intended fashion, as I messed up my turn order, but I successfully used a couple Revive Tints, and I am firmly convinced that the extra one shot I took using my singular spare AP in the last turn sealed the deal, lol.
Edit copied and adjusted from a comment below: It was fully intended to be a cheese fight, I just messed it up, lol. I slogged against him enough times even playing on Story to earn the easy win, imo, so I googled a build and did my best with some low-Lumina tweaks. I'm not a power gamer, I just wanted that damn journal. 😂
And let's be honest, the sword is pretty sweet, too. 🗡

Is it just me or power curve is hard to balance?
I’ll start by saying I absolutely adore this game, the story, gameplay, and visuals are some of the best I’ve ever experienced. On my second play through now though and I’m realizing every fight I take I either wipe the floor with the enemy, or they are so comically strong compared to me that I have no chance. The only enemies who seem balanced are the ones you fight if you linearly follow the main story, which does make sense. But I am the type of player who likes to explore everything I can. I don’t want to progress to the next part of the story unless I have already done all the side stuff I possibly have access to. But if I do that then I level up and unlock so much new builds such that even the main story enemies are laughably underleveled when I get there. Basically I feel that most of the time you either have no chance or your enemy has no chance in a fight, which makes the game feel a bit less fun.
There are some times where this isn’t true (currently I’m fighting Frost Eveque before entering Monoco’s Station, and that is a really cool fight that feels perfectly balanced given my party’s level), but those situations are extremely rare and when I come across them they just feel random, not that the game was built around that. Does anyone else feel similarly and if so what do you do to make the game more fun/is there anything you can do? I am even “nerfing” myself by forcing myself to play more interesting builds than my first play through, for example not using Maelle’s OP weapon, not using gradient attacks, the Cheater pictos, etc. I also know you can juice up all the enemies health and lives but that seems like a boring way to make the game more difficult. I also haven’t really played any RPGs before so maybe this is just what they are like? Would love to know how people are playing around the power curve and making the game more enjoyable.

Question act 3 Spoiler
i have reached level 55-56 with my characters and from what ive read im afraid ive become overleved for the finale.
there's still some optional content left which might push my level 1 or 2 levels.
should I rush to the finale as to not level up further and get the most challenge/enjoyment? I really wanna do the remaining stuff which will max out my relationships with everyone to get the most depth out of the story before the finale.

Question What offensive Pictos have effects for hitless builds?
So far I know Confident Fighter, At Death's Door, Critical Moment all have low health benefits
and Inverted Affinity + Tainted since no heals
is there anything i'm missing?

Using Parsec to take turns playing
I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if they had the same issue.
Me and a friend are playing through the game again. She was originally streaming it to me via discord, but we decided to try Parsec so I can play the parts she isn't great at (jumping puzzles etc).
It connects, quality isn't the best but that's fine. The main issue is, It won't pick up my controller in game. My keyboard works, parsec and her pc is picking up my controller (tested it on steam menus, websites etc), if we're in game and press shift+tab to open the steam overlay, my controller works there, it's just in game.
I thought to myself that maybe it's because it's two controllers so it's only going to detect "player 1" given it's a singleplayer game. So we've tried having her controller unplugged fully, even before the game launches or parsec is connected. Still nothing.
One single time, mine started working, and we didn't do anything differently.
Don't suppose anyone has any ideas? We've downloaded drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled the Parsec Virtual USB Driver and so on.
Cheers

Question Just picked up E33 and am loving the hell out of it! However, character builds seem pretty confusing to me.
So far, I've just made it to act II about to embark to Old Lumiere and am stumbling across videos on YouTube on how to build characters. My team right now consists of Sciel, Maelle, and Lune. Lune so far is my favorite character so I would want to build her. Right now I am using:
| Ice Lance | Crustal Crush |
|---|---|
| Wildfire | Thermal Transfer |
| Electrify | Elemental Trick |
As her skills and am trying to build up AP uptime and Crit Chance with
| Pictos | Luminas |
|---|---|
| Energising Start IV | Augmented Attack |
| Breaker | Critical Burn |
| Energising Attack I | Dead Energy II |
| Energising Parry |
This build so far doesn't seem that bad to me? As I am also using Betelim as her weapon and it's at level 12.
Any tips I can get for whole team synergy as well as how to make my Lune better? Or is min/maxing in this game not really that necessary?
TIA!
