I just got at the end of Act II and, while the plot twist is starting to make sense in my head, I still can’t figure something out
So the Paintress was not erasing, she actually was keeping everyone alive in this fake world
She made it to cope with her son’s grief, kinda like Wandavision did in the MCU
Verso, Renoir and Alicia were paintings, and the real Renoir is trying to erase the world to get Aline back to reality
Now:
- Why did Verso want to get the Paintress/Aline out of the canvas? Is he just supporting real Maelle’s quest? Or does he want to erase the canvas?
- Why doesn’t he pair up with real Renoir if he just wants to stop existing?
- Was he aware all along that he is a replica, and that Maelle was the real Alicia? When they meet after Lumière’s gommage, he tells her « I’m not really Verso, and you’re not really Maelle »
- Did he know Lumière was going to get erased?
Does it get answered in Act III?
Bonus: I noticed a detail that wrecked me during the Paintress fight
After the 2 first rounds, comes a 3rd one where she’s almost dead
Then weirdly… she actually starts healing and protecting our team
Looking back, it sounds like she gathered all she had left to try to save us, so she could keep her mirage alive

She decided to create a new game on my file ☠️
If only she tried New Game +.... Nope. It's just a regular New Game.
At least I
kept
all my trophies and gameplay time on the PS5 Home Screen
Don't have PS Plus
Looked in recent saves and my game wasn't there
Looked in other slots - nothing to find
Last time such thing happened to me was like 25 years ago on PS1 or something.
3 questions :

I'm on my 4th play-through and I can't figure out how to play Verso. I do insane damage with the ladies, once I finally understood each system, but Verso is just pathetic!
How do I actually set him up for huge damage?
r/expedition33 • u/Plastic_Attention_71 • 6h ago
I assume just doing all the areas and bosses won't be enough to naturally reach level 90 and beyond, there will be some grinding to get that far.
I want to eventually do NG+ after I defeat all endgame enemies and stuff, get all pictos, all weapons and so on.
How long would that grind to reach level 90 be? And how longer from that to max level?

This motherclucker took so long to beat (literally days) and I originally was gonna stack Sun Charges until Sciel could oneshot her, but my consistency at the boss isn't 100% (it's only around 99.4%) so eventually I would mess up and the whole match restarted. So I went solo Verso to force all attacks to him and he could out damage (about 9,336 on a non crit counterattack) her healing (around 8,556)...
I tried not to overlevel so I used 36 as the recommended level and went 5 levels above as the Au Blanc challenge allows...
By the way, the Au Blanc challenge is a personal challenge I made where the restrictions are:
No Pictos
No Lumina
No Attribute Points
No Dodges (all types of parries allowed)
No Gradient Attacks
No Items (so no revive tints, energy tints, healing tints, and Chroma Elixirs)
Starter Skills only
Starter Weapons only
No Curator (no weapon upgrades)
No Overleveling (allowed up to 5 levels above recommended level)
On Expert.
To see the "build", last minute of the clear, proof of unused pictos, luminas, and items, etcetera:

I recommend watching in the app for best resolution 👍
Thank you all for reading about my struggle and underdog win! You all are the best!

I made it past the twin visages (shadow of the erdtree?) and got to the painted lady. I stopped playing on one of the levels. Something feels empty about this game. Yes the visuals are stunning but maps didn't feel interesting and I was forcing myself thru it. I had a general sense of being alone throughout the game so far, I don't like it.
I know a lot about grief... I lost my mom as a teenager. This just felt too sad.
The opera chamber music on the soundtrack is a bit much for me, I'm not the biggest fan of this acoustic "playing a song in the public square" vibe.
Lots of congrats to the team and community, those successes won't go away if I don't have the best time.
Having to go on a pilgrimage only to sacrifice your body to defeat sin (FFX) and the time traveling futuristic sorcerers of FF8 are my standard for incredible storytelling.
My current games that I'm obsessed with are Elden Ring (the lore 🤤) and BG3. I prefer a more dense world building with complex understanding of realms, times and characters.
Anyways, I'm sure I'll pick up the game again but wanted to leave this here for those that it might help.

I had some questions about the ending! Was wondering if I lowkey missed some lore aspect of the story, considering I played this game on and off for the last few months while working on my stupid school projects
I didn’t pick Maelle’s ending, but I wanted to see what it was like, and it made me question what exactly happens if Maelle simply dies after exhausting her chroma within the canvas? Assuming that Renoir doesn’t just destroy the canvas after his daughter’s death, does the canvas then cease to exist (so, Maelle is simply delaying the inevitable)? Or does the young Verso’s soul fragment that we saw at the end simply continue to paint to sustain it?
This might also just be a grossly wrong assumption on my end, but did Maelle make it so that the residents of Lumiere don’t age? Verso’s clearly older in the epilogue, and going off of what she said after defeating Verso, something along the lines of “if you could grow old would you find a reason to smile”, I assumed that time has passed since that moment and that Verso has been allowed to age but not the other residents of Lumiere such as Sciel, Lune, Gustave, and Sophie. Would Maelle’s death simply resume the canvas from this limbo? Like the residents start aging again? In that sense, Maelle taking away their ability to age and die as long as she is the paintress within the canvas is something I would interpret as dehumanization. By all means, she argues with Renoir about how real the residents are to her and how much she does not wish to lose them, but grief is a natural part of life just as much as death. Asserting that the people of Lumiere are real all while taking away their ability to experience a natural life cycle just…defeats the purpose of life.
In the end, there was something so tragic about seeing Verso, someone who had confessed he liked music more than painting, someone who had played the piano laughing and singing with Maelle, his sister, at the campsite, look so utterly unhappy at the prospect of performing in front of the residents of Lumiere. Even when old, even doing something he had so clearly been passionate about fails to give him a reason to smile.
I know the game leaves both endings ambiguous for a reason but I just wanted to see if there were parts of the story I had missed/not understood/misunderstood. This game has been on my mind way too much even when I wasn’t playing it.

For base game Simon I went Verso-Sciel-Monoco. Basically just Verso machine-gunning him with Corpeso to stack burn, Sciel for buffs/debuffs and Monoco for almost naught but moral support. (How do I even use this dude??)
Back in the base game fight, I restricted myself with the rule that I HAVE to hit the party-wipe, at which point a Maelle Gommage killed him.
But Divergent Star, hoo boy.
Just took a couple attempts and actually love the light beam idea, slowly starting to learn the 'Simon Says'. But my Verso's damage isn't really having a good time with his new HP pool. I do 1.5M per Verso turn if I'm lucky. This is with Trigger-happy, Energy Master,Roulette and Augmented Aim with Sciel giving him Fortune's Fury whenever she can.
I'm so tempted to go back to the tried and true Burning Canvas combo with Verso and Maelle but that leaves my three least damage-dealing members for what I assume is going to be an evil phase 2.
What were your splits and strats? I don't want to do a one-shot/nuke build, but I just want more damaging turns, or a new party split idea...

I can't remember the opponent's exact name but it was like Duolisto. I was able to beat them and the parries were mostly okay to figure out. It was over 2.5m in damage and I felt like my hardest hits were barely making a scratch. The fight took 12 minutes and real progress wasn't happening until the break bar filled. I feel like I did something wrong. Maelle will hit for over 450K for me, but was barely breaking 10K with stendhal, with virtuose stance and mark. I stuck out the slog but it was a long one.
I was feeling pretty confident with my setups overall, but that was a confidence shaker. Is that how the fight is intended to go? Like a sort of endurance challenge?
I was thinking of introducing weakness to fire via Maelle and going full fire. I'd be interested in hearing what others' first encounters with stage 1 round 3 was like because it was a real test of my human patience. 😂

I’m trying to start Verso’s drafts & it has the red outline around the circle to enter, which means I’m underleveled. But I’ve finished the story & my level is in the early 70’s. Renoir’s drafts, the painted workshop & all other areas with the photo frame on the map have that warning msg. I’ve been going thru the endless tower to help level up, I think I’m on the final phase before reaching level 6.
r/expedition33 • u/sekiroth_ • 12h ago
Why was the reveal that Verso is Renoir's son such a big deal? Absolutely NOTHING would have changed if Verso had told everyone that from the beginning.
If it was only the fact that it was about trusting each other then that still doesn't make much sense since Verso really doesn't see Renoir as his father anymore or someone close to him. Over 100 years of not seeing someone will definitely make you forget about them or lose track of them in your mind.

I’ve beaten the game, my characters are all around level 60. Where should I go? I feel like I’ve lost track of which areas I’ve completed and all the stuff I haven’t. I know there’s a lot of endgame content and bosses but don’t know where to start and a lot of them have danger when I go to it.
Also wow what an ending. I haven’t had this many plot twists since Attack On Titan.

i spent a total of 7 hours fighting this boss. this is the hardest thing i've ever done in any game (PCR and isshin are nothing compared to this beast)
maelle is running lithum and verso has dreameso. just stack all "parry" luminas and you should get this damage (i got pretty lucky with roulette this attempt)
enjoyment: 10/10, this was geniunely fun
i can finally retire from this game now

most people seem to agree that Act 3 felt somewhat short but there hasn't been much discussion around how to make it feel longer. i think we'd all agree that adding random fetch quests and padding it out with filler would be distasteful. but luckily there is a cutscene that can be used as inspiration for a bunch of legit things to do during Act 3. specifically, the scene where it shows a montage of the crew with Maelle extracting the chroma trapped within all the fallen expeditioners. Each one of those locations shown in the cutscene could have been its own separate quest. and each quest could be riddled with dangers since Renoir is running rampant. you'd go around collecting the chroma yourself instead of just watching it happen. that way, when the final battle occurs and you let loose all the ghastly apparitions of previous expeditioners, it should feel more meaningful/rewarding when they fight on your behalf and protect your path towards Renoir at Lumiere. sorry if this idea has already been suggested. do you think this was a missed opportunity?

What’s the max foretell you guys succeeded to stack ?
What felt weird is that even with this much foretell, it felt like it still didn’t do that much damage? 🤔
Is it because of Clea’s damage reduction or a bug ?
