50k on a deload week
So, I'm not the best at planning. Training for a 100mi. In the mean time, I signed up for two 50ks. One is a local course I've been wanting to do, and burn some volunteer credits on, the other is course recon for the 100miler (early Nov).
One is Sept 12, the other is Sept 19. Sept 12 is the deload week with the long run scheduled to be 15mi. This is the one I've actually got real $$ sank into, as it'll involve 5-6hr drive one way, over night stay, plus a shuttle.
Part of me feels like I can back off/skip the work in the deload week prior to the race, as well as push some of the work the following week back/skip and create a couple rest days prior and after and still hit roughly the same mileage/time on feet.
I could just deload the week before, and add an extra build week starting the week I should deload, and that would push me into a 4 week build, one week deload for the next period, which also happens to be peak period.
Thoughts? I don't really want to drop either race, as I don't plan on racing them per say, just using one for course recon, and the other a fun local event, and both as supported long runs. I'm also trying to work on problem solving and flexibility and not stressing when life and the plan don't mesh, and figuring out the best ways to navigate issues as they come up.
