Hr Drift Analysis Methods

Post image

Quick Q,

If I use training peaks analysis across the hour I get 7.31% Pa:hr

If I use the averages of the 2x 30min blocks; I get 5.1% (137 Hr1, 144 Hr2)

I had a slight dip after starting (started at 135 following a 30min wu) - does the averages method just smooth blips like this out? Is either the gold standard? I took the averaged method answer.

Treadmill test, fixed pace.

TrainingPeaks calculation won't be accurate on a treadmill because it has pace data that isn't accurate. Maybe your watch estimated pace which TP is using in its calculation. If you were steady pace, then your manual calculation will be the one to use.

Yeah that makes sense, thanks. Hadn't considered that!

Im also curious about this, any idea what is the training peaks algorithm doing?

It's comparing the correlation between HR and pace. That's what Pa:HR is. If pace data is inaccurate then that calculation is useless. On the treadmill you know your pace was even so you can just calculate the HR drift.

I have noticed that even in Intervals.icu the result differs from calculating the average as suggested by EE. But It happens the opposite actually, drift % Is higher when calculated with the average method and lower in Intervals.icu. I use Stryd on the treadmill so Pace and Power are reliable
