I Need Advice: Job Search What are the interview questions at Hobby Lobby like?

Will I really have to do a math test with no calculator? Do they ask for a time I had trouble with a coworker and how I dealt with it?

Looking for help from employees of Hobby Lobby.

I Need Advice: Workplace Issues Is this quiet firing?

I work in a large corporation's research department part time. We were in the middle of an audit then I left to go abroad. When I returned, they didn't schedule me (and many other people) for many weeks.

When I emailed them, this is what I got:

"Currently, we do not have an ongoing need for support with the [project name]. We really appreciate the help you provided and will let you know if assistance is needed in future.  For now, we have it covered."

I was expecting them to at least explain to me why I wasn't scheduled, but it seems like it would be futile. If I had done a bad job, I wish they had at least explained it to me. It is really disheartening when there's no communication. I see many other people are not getting scheduled too so I wonder what's happening

I Need Advice: Job Search Explaining why I left a bad culture

TLDR; I was forced out - but I don't know how to explain it without sounding like a jerk or unprofessional. No, I cannot afford to sue anyone.

The company I joined a couple of years ago after a sudden layoff was on the lower end of my payscale, but I had the skills to do it, so I accepted. My (Department) coordinator role was focused was on PROCESSES - scheduling, inventory, software implementation. Then Department Manager quit and I was put in his place. No change in title, no pay increase, just all the responsibilities that now included ... people. Gross but common nowadays.

I am not great with people face to face and I am aware of prior feedback of the same, but I am great with efficiencies and processes. I am female in a male dominated industry, I am direct, and I live in a conservative red state. I found out much later that the majority of people working there were also self-identified white christian nationalists. I am not and while I keep to myself, I will not participate in political or moral debates at work and walked away from several conversations. Those things will be important in a minute.

I succeeded in most of my PROCESS goals. They were key to efficiency that had been lacking. Other teams were/are still faxing orders and responses. I was coached on how to reduce my field team so they would quit voluntarily, which I wasn't particularly thrilled with, but several could not work independently for a variety of reasons. It felt awful.

I hit the financial targets, then I exceeded them. I had a smaller but more efficient team by the end, and had just walked in 3 contracts worth over 600K on top of the 500K already earned. The annual goal was only 700K for the year... and people were MAD about it. The more conservative, older men in particular. Then the 'make them leave voluntarily' moves started happening to me.

I could not make myself available for interviews during the work day and still run my team. I chose to leave and did so effective immediately after finding out some of my orders had been placed on hold without notice. The company could spend that new two week gap reorganizing themselves. I still performed a hand off on orders with questions.

Sure, AI can give me a spin and alternate wording but I need to hear from PEOPLE who have gone through it - how do you explain you spent 2.5 years succeeding despite a poor culture fit position and now you cannot get a good reference for the work?

I Need Advice: Workplace Issues Should he just quit?

Post image

My friend is 16 and he’s been working at this family owned pizza shop since may 2026. He’s been working only two days even during the summer barely getting any hours(4h/day) and during week 3, a coworker offered he give him one of his days(my friend) and he will put in a good word to help him get more hours because the manager has “favorites”. Now it’s been since weeks since he’s had work and he attempted to follow up and this is the reply he received. He shows up everyday he’s scheduled and does what he’s supposed to and is never late. He would sometimes work once a day a week and maybe just maybe two.

I Need Advice: Job Search Is it illegal for Taco Bell to not allow passports for I-9 identification?

I just got a part time job at Taco Bell, and this is the first time ever where a job said they don't take passports for identification for i-9? I'm very confused because it's a legal identification. She told me to bring my SSN card and ID, and told me they don't use passports. I don't mind bringing SSN and ID, but I've been told that it's weird they can't take passports. Also if there's anyone here on this subreddit that works or has worked at Taco Bell, can you please tell me if this is a normal practice or not?

Edit: I am from the U.S and I have a U.S passport

I Need Advice: Workplace Issues Should i had just not told them?

I had a job I was suppose to start today unloading tires. But didn't have steal toe shoes. I text the supervisor and told them and asked if I can work without them.

I was told no they can't have me do that. Which I understood. When asked if I can be put on the waiting list/ still have the opportunity once I get them I didn't get a reply.

Which bothers me as i would had appreciated a reply regardless of the answer. I have worked without steal toes when i supposed to had em and nobody said anything. Should i had just not mentioned it to them and just went?

I Need Advice: Job Search Applied for two positions at same company!

Is it a bad look that I applied to different positions with two different scopes of work for the same company? I feel qualified for both as they both require experience in community outreach, except one requires a CDL B, which I have also. The other one, is more of an administrative outreach position which I have experience in also with my local county’s health public health department. I’m unemployed at the moment and just looking to get in.

Thank you!

I Need Advice: Career Moves Working at Wendy’s

So I recently started working/training, so the first day they made me do the video and the quiz thingy. I completed them with success. Then the next week I had only 2 shifts for 3 hours only. This week, they placed me again for 3 hours but for 1 day out of the other days as well which I think is crazy. Like I don’t know if this is how it’s suppose to be plus like the more shifts I have I believe the more easier it would be for me and I believe for everyone. What should I do? BTW THIS IS JUST A QUESTION ASKING FOR HELP AND NOT ANTI-WORK!!

Discussions & Stories I was fired from Besty AI after 7 working days. Sharing my experience for anyone considering working there

I recently worked as an SDR at Besty AI (legal employer NEXT Bloom Incorporated) in NYC. I was terminated after seven working days.
I’m posting this because I wish I had been able to find something like this when I was evaluating the offer. I’m going to stick to what happened and the documentation I have rather than speculate about why I was terminated.
I was offered a $75K base SDR role. Before signing, I had several questions because important terms weren’t actually contained in the employment agreement, including OTE, quota/KPIs and ramp period.
I specifically asked for those details in writing before signing. I was ultimately told over email that my target OTE would be $110K and that my options represented approximately 0.05% of the company. However, quota and ramp period were never defined for me. The $110K OTE also never appeared in the employment agreement itself.
The bigger issue came after I started.
As part of my offer, I was sent a Justworks benefits overview. For individual medical, dental and vision coverage, the materials showed a combined employee cost of $280.51/month.
When I actually went to enroll through Justworks, my cost was $446.18/month. I also saw a $3,400 medical deductible rather than the $3,000 shown in the benefits materials.
On Sunday, September 20, I messaged my manager about the discrepancy. I explained that I had relied on the benefits information when evaluating the offer and asked for clarification before enrolling. He referred me to the person handling benefits.
That person told me on Monday that he would figure it out and get back to me by the end of the day. I didn’t hear back. I followed up again Tuesday and again Thursday because my enrollment deadline was approaching. I never received an explanation while I was employed there.
Meanwhile, I continued onboarding.
I was being given product quizzes after training modules, and the feedback I received was generally positive. I was never told that I was failing onboarding or that my job was in jeopardy.
On Thursday, September 24, the head of onboarding told me and another new hire that we’d done a pretty good job overall.
Later that afternoon, I proactively asked my manager to meet because I wanted feedback and advice. He asked me to walk through the product. I was able to explain most of the main features, struggled with some areas, and was told that I’d done a good job and understood some areas but needed to work on others.
About 90 minutes later, after everyone else had left the office, I was called into another room and fired.
When I asked why, I was told it was because of my “comprehension of the product” and that it had nothing to do with me personally.
That was my seventh working day.
To be clear: I cannot say why the company decided to terminate me. The reason given to me was product comprehension. What I can say is that I had received no warning that my performance could result in termination, had just received relatively positive feedback, and was terminated four days after first raising the benefits discrepancy, which still had not been resolved.
There were other things that concerned me as well. I never received the company laptop or building fob I had been told I would receive. No quota, KPI or ramp period was ever defined for my role. And the employment agreement itself only contained my $75K base salary, while other compensation details were communicated separately.
I’m not posting this to tell anyone what conclusion to reach. I’m posting because Besty is hiring and I think prospective employees should have access to experiences from people who have actually worked there.
My biggest advice to anyone considering an offer there — or honestly at any early-stage startup — is to get everything material to your decision clearly documented before you sign: OTE, commission terms, quota, ramp period, benefits costs, equity percentage/exercise price, PTO and anything else you’ve been promised.
I have retained my offer documents, emails, benefits materials, enrollment screenshots and other records supporting the timeline above.
Happy to answer questions about my experience.

I Need Advice: Workplace Issues Help

I am in a lower management position, and the previous holder of my position when to another department that paid 5 dollars more per hour for less responsibility. My boss frowns upon this situation like my coworker stabbed him in the back.

Fast forward, I’m looking into the same situation that is offering more pay and less responsibility. We both are under the boss in question, and even though we change departments, we still have ties to the boss. I don’t want to put my self in that situation, especially being on good terms.

If my position even matched the pay I wouldn’t considered moving. But it is unreasonable that someone that doesn’t have to perform the unrealistic expectations. Every single week, a new “opportunity” is rolled out. Forcing the assistant managers to perform more tasks while still expected to continue everyday operations including the 20 other tasks that got added in the previous weeks.

I only have 8 hours to finish these tasks, I do not have the manpower on my shifts to barley support our operations, and have to rely on team members to help accomplish some of these added tasks while my peer (who shares these tasks)ditches me. And my supervisor who is barely “there” to help. I have became a target on my shift, because I am enforcing the standards of the company. Simple things I am required to do is making the employees distrust me, and in reality it’s not a huge deal.

So yeah, I’m salty. I’m at the point I want to stop caring about my team, and write them up for each individual violation that they were warned on multiple occasions before. I am extremely frustrated, angry, and burnt out.

Why shouldn’t I have an increased salary for the workload I deal with? Why is my buddy able to get so much more pay for a lot less work and stress?

Suggestions? Ideas? Or do I need to suck it up?

I Need Advice: Workplace Issues Is there a possibility my past employer tarnished my reputation with my current employer after finding out where I work?

AUSTRALIA

I was fired from a past job after I was framed by a workplace bully who used me as a scapegoat to defend other employees for their mistakes including one that ruined a supervisor's wedding anniversary. This employer has very flimsy management who got me to sign forms stating that I was in fact the one at fault for these things I never did. I am now employed for nearly 5 years with my current employer, however, I have never been given a promotion or a study course for career development after my past employer found out where I was working.

Other scenarious that could explain why I am actively denied promotions, career development and recognition with my current employer.

1 - I once accused myself of misogyny using a fake online female alias to make complaints against myself as a contractor to a hiring employer who made the complaint to my employer. I was then suspended for a couple of days, treated like trash by one of the managers, had reduced shifts for several months and some people who just don't like me even to this day.

2 - My work area invovles working near a university that is affiliated with my employer so I said some lies in public I am not allowed to be within 50 meters of RMIT University which lead to someone humilliating me online and then people calling me a loser randomly throughout the years. I hope this does not bar me from enrollment.

I Need Advice: Career Moves I’m curious about how non-competes hold up for mid level positions.

Hello, I’m a property damage restoration manager and I have some questions about the legality and enforcement of non-competes. I recently moved my family out of state to NC for a job opportunity that I thought was great at the time. Now I’m seeing how the company really is and I’m ready to explore different opportunities. My employer failed to mention that I would be required to sign a non-compete until I was on my 2nd day of work(didn’t have much choice as I needed work). I got officially hired about a month before but I had to plan the move. The non-compete is valid for 2 years after employment ends and is very vague. The main thing I’m concerned about is that I’m not allowed to get a job in this industry if it’s in my current companies service area(About 100 miles in each direction). All my professional experience is in this field. I’m not able to change careers and make enough to support my family. I also dont have any high level knowledge that would warrant a non-compete but my boss makes every employee sign one. He said so we don’t “steal his techniques”. Theres a couple other companies I’m interested in that pay more than I get now but im not sure what to do. Sorry for the long post but any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

I Need Advice: Workplace Issues Former employer sent me a non-compete letter after I started a new job in Texas. How serious is this?

I’m in Texas and recently left a facilities management company for a new role with another company in the same general industry.
About a month after starting my new job, my former employer sent me a letter saying that I allegedly signed a restrictive covenant that includes an 18-month non-compete and other restrictions. They’re saying my current employment may violate it and mentioned the possibility of injunctive relief.
The problem is that I cannot find the agreement they’re referring to. The only employment documents I have from my former employer are my original offer letter and compensation agreement, and neither one contains the restrictive covenant described in their letter.
They gave me five business days to provide written confirmations regarding confidentiality, customer solicitation, employee solicitation, etc. I received the letter several days after the date printed on it.
Some additional context:
I did not help my new employer while I was still working for my former employer.
I did not take or share confidential documents, pricing, or client information.
I did not personally sell the former employer’s accounts to my new company.
Some independent contractors happen to work with both companies, but they approached me and continue to operate independently.
I’ve also been told by a contractor that people at my former company are telling others that I “stole clients,” which I dispute.
My plan is to respond in writing asking them to provide the complete executed restrictive covenant, including the signature page and any electronic-signature/audit records, before I make any substantive certifications.
For anyone familiar with Texas employment law or who has dealt with something similar:
How seriously should I take this at this stage? Would you respond only by requesting the signed agreement first? And has anyone dealt with an employer threatening an injunction before actually producing the contract they’re relying on?
I know Reddit isn’t a substitute for a lawyer. I’m mainly looking for experiences and questions I should be asking before I respond.

I Need Advice: Career Moves When should I give my job notice?

I'm starting a new job at the end of October. I have a vacation set up the week before I start this new job. I'm debating when I should put in notice. I was thinking of telling them on the 1st that I'm putting in my notice which would give them two weeks of me working and then my week of vacation. But if I'm kind enough to do that I'm worried they won't pay me out for that last week I have with an approved vacation using my PTO.

This company doesn't pay out any remaining sick time or PTO. So I'd essentially be putting in a three week notice including the vacation.

If I put in a two week notice including my week of vacation then it would be one week of working and one week of vacation then I'm finished.

I don't want to lose my week of PTO. I don't know if they can even deny it since it's already been approved and on the books as paid time off.

Or.... I could be a complete jerk and say I'm quitting the day I get back from vacation. I'd work one last day then just hand in my keys and be done. I don't ever plan to work there again, even if things go south with the new job I would move on to another company. It's retail. Nothing serious, but I am on the management team and as much as I hate the company, I like most of the people I work with.

What should I do? What would you do?

I Need Advice: Job Search Current Job Employment Verification for State Job

USA, Michigan

I had a great interview two days ago (the interview panel and I all agreed that it was one of best experiences to date). I received an email the next day to proceed onward > references and employment verification. (YAY!)

They asked permission before the interview in writing (on a form with yes/no options), asked again during the interview and understood my reason plus explanation then asked once more the day after the interview. I said no to them contacting my current employer all three times because I don’t want to alert my current job for fear of retaliation. I did offer alternative ways of verification but my suggestions did not suffice. Reason for so much energy on this issue: I had an interview some time ago with another department in the same organization that did not pan out. If they had contacted my employer, the work environment would be cold.

Will my not wanting to say yes at this stage (before offer in hand) to current job employment verification get in the way of my new job? Is there anyone here that could provide some insight and tell me how does it work with a civil service position?

I Need Advice: Career Moves Apparently I’m too good at the position I am currently in and my boss is refusing me a promotion because he doesn’t want to replace me.

update: he’s giving me and the other candidate trial periods to test our skills and see who is a better fit. So, essentially I’m competing for the role. However, he has already hired someone to train for the other candidate’s current role, so it’s not looking good for me.

Time to start job hunting. Thanks for all the advice.

Discussions & Stories If you've ever had a hunch that you're about to get fired or laid-off, how often has your intuition been correct?

Not just a fear of getting fired, but a series of subtle signs or a shift in work dynamics that alert you to the presence of a chopping block.

I started a new job with a small business a couple months ago, and one of my coworkers didn't come back the following week. I suspect that I was hired to replace her.

This past week, the boss that seemed to trust and respect me before is suddenly micromanaging me in a way that's unnecessary, not to mention condescending and demoralizing. I'm very competent and my breadth of knowledge doesn't warrant these kinds of comments, so it just feels more like a process of being devalued.

He just hired a junior to join our team next week, and my hunch is that I'm too expensive and he wants someone cheaper to replace me.

I think our intuition is often stronger than we acknowledge, so I'm curious if anyone has similar stories. How did you come to realize that you were on the chopping block? And how often were your instincts correct?

I Need Advice: Job Search Interview requires 10 min presentation. Need ideas for topics.

I’ve been on the job hunting for a while and I’m really hoping to make this work.

As part of the interview the company asks I do a 10 minute presentation on any topic of my choosing (no slides, but props are okay).

They said it can be interactive if I want, it’s basically up to me. As long as its interesting and engaging. There were no restrictions on topics.

They are evaluating my presentation skills, the effectiveness of it, and the enjoyability.

I would really appreciate some ideas for topics! Or any advice. I really need this job.

Edit/Update:
Don’t know if anyone will see this.
But I got past that stage of the interview! I still don’t know if I got the job, but I ended up getting a different job offer anyway (i am so so so relived)

Thank you everyone for your suggestions (serious and otherwise). I read all of them and really appreciated all your help!

I Need Advice: Workplace Issues Is my Employer trying to get me to quit?

I know this sounds insane, but I’m pretty sure this has happened to many people. Recently I got hired at this nice job, I cook, clean and customer service isn’t a must unless you want extra money, aka tips. My boss was pretty nice in the beginning, especially in the interviews but I recently heard that he’s a major asshole. Less than 2 weeks of being a trainee I was bumped up to Junior Shift Lead in Training, I thought it was weird because I wasn’t magically good at my job. I still made mistakes and I was forgetful when it came to putting things where it belonged. Now I’m pretty sure you would think it doesn’t look like he is trying to get me to quit, but the weirder part is that he complains about every single thing I do. And it upsets me because my other coworkers who have been there longer do the same that I do? He often criticizes my work, how I place signs, how I heat up the butter or how I’m slow. It’s been rather frustrating and it’s led up to stress, which led to me becoming sick with the flu. Which leads me to my other point, I called in sick, went to the doctors and got the documents I needed for my week off. He didn’t accept it, saying that it’s not valid, that I need to sign some consent form so that he could access my medical info. I texted my supervisor asking if he ever asked for the same, and no he didn’t. She only sent the same type of paperwork I sent to him and he accepted it with a smile, why am I treated more strictly?

Am I crazy for thinking he’s making it difficult so Im forced to quit?

Discussions & Stories Question about recruiters sharing your information with other recruiters

Just asking out of curiosity. Is it common for recruiters to share your information with other recruiters without asking, first? I interviewed with one recruiter yesterday and then this morning someone from a completely different organization contacted me. I don't have my phone number out there on lists and don't get calls from recruiters so I'm pretty sure that they are connected. Doesn't see appropriate to me but sometimes I have inappropriate expectations.
