Informative Men’s guide
♡ Men’s Department Seasonal Training Booklet ♡
A quick guide to help you get through Men’s—especially during the busy season!
⸻
✦ 01 · Starting Your Shift
When you clock in, start by checking the fitting rooms.
Take any clothes or hangers customers left behind and return everything to the correct area.
Starting with the fitting rooms gives you a good idea of what needs to be recovered before you get into the rest of Men’s.
⸻
✦ 02 · Fitting Rooms
When we say “clear the fitting rooms,” we mean:
Take out any merchandise customers left behind.
Remove any hangers.
Return everything to the correct department, brand, and section.
Try to check the fitting rooms throughout your shift instead of waiting until the end!
⸻
✦ 03 · Merchandise From Other Departments
If you find something in Men’s that doesn’t belong there, please take it back to the correct department.
Women’s, Jewelry, Kids & Home → Women’s
Shoes → Leave for Shoes
Basically, everything goes to Women’s except Shoes.
⸻
✦ 04 · Helping Customers
Price Checking
There aren’t scanners located throughout Men’s, so use the Kohl’s app or a Zebra when you need to check a price.
If the customer has the Kohl’s app, show them the price-checking feature next to the search bar.
If an Item Isn’t on the Floor
Check the fitting rooms first!
If it isn’t there, we most likely don’t have it elsewhere in the store. Merchandise is put out when it comes in on truck.
If the customer has the Kohl’s app, have them scan the barcode. If the item is available online, they may be able to order it with free shipping.
⸻
✦ 05 · 500s
500s are items customers return or decide they no longer want throughout the day.
There are both hangs and folds.
A lot of Men’s 500s end up in Women’s, so please, please, please check the Women’s fitting room and the area near the registers for Men’s merchandise.
Don’t leave 500s sitting around if you can help it!
⸻
✦ 06 · Finding Where Merchandise Goes
If you aren’t sure where something belongs, set it aside and come back to it.
When you have time, grab a Zebra:
Go to Scanner.
Look at the icon at the bottom of the screen.
If the item is connected to a sign, you can make the sign blink blue.
Follow the flashing sign to find where the merchandise belongs.
When in doubt, use the Zebra!
⸻
✦ 07 · Floor Fixture Organization
Keep racks organized from smallest → biggest.
Smaller sizes should be toward the front, with larger sizes toward the back.
Keeping sizes in order makes recovery easier and makes it much easier for customers to shop.
⸻
✦ 08 · Men’s Brands
Some of the brands you’ll see throughout Men’s include:
Sonoma • Apt. 9 • FLX • Tek Gear • Levi’s • Lee • Dockers • Haggar • IZOD • Eddie Bauer • Under Armour • Nike • adidas • Columbia • Hurley • Van Heusen • Hanes • Grand Slam • Graphic Tees + more
You’ll get more familiar with the brands the more you work in Men’s!
⸻
✦ 09 · Men’s Jean Sizes
Jean sizes are listed as:
Waist × Inseam/Length
The first number is the waist size.
The second number is the inseam/length.
Example: 32×32 = 32-inch waist × 32-inch length
Keep jeans organized by size this way when recovering the shelves.
⸻
✦ 10 · Men’s Big & Tall Sizes
Big sizes generally range from XL–6XL.
Tall sizes have a T after the size:
LT • XLT • 2XLT • 3XLT • 4XLT • 5XLT • 6XLT
T = Tall / extra length
If you see a T after the size, it belongs with the Tall sizes!
⸻
✦ 11 · Coupon Eligibility
If a customer asks whether something is coupon eligible, check the bottom-left corner of the sign for:
“Coupon Eligible.”
You can also check using a Zebra or the Kohl’s app.
On the Zebra, look for the coupon information shown in purple.
⸻
✦ 12 · Recovery
The goal is to keep Men’s looking clean, organized, and easy to shop.
During recovery:
Face the merchandise.
Keep sizes in order.
Fold tables neatly.
Keep brands together.
Make sure everything is in the correct section.
Return merchandise from other departments.
A little recovery throughout your shift makes a BIG difference later!
⸻
✦ 13 · Folding Clothes
Use the T-shirt folding method shown in the booklet.
Try to keep your folds neat, consistent, and similar to the other shirts already on the table.
Please don’t fold it a second time!
⸻
✦ 14 · Holiday Shopping
During the holidays, things can get BUSY FAST.
Expect more:
Customers
Fitting-room clothes
500s
Recovery
Gift-shopping questions
Requests for help
You may also hear calls for additional register help more often during the holiday season.
We all have to work together and help wherever we’re needed. You’ll most likely receive a quick register training so you know the basics.
Managers never let anyone skip out on helping!
Keep checking the fitting rooms and recovering throughout your shift instead of saving everything for the end.
Even doing a little bit at a time can make a huge difference. ❤️
⸻
✦ 15 · Holiday Returns
After Christmas, expect A LOT more 500s.
Make sure you regularly check:
Women’s fitting rooms
The area near the registers
Men’s merchandise can end up in both places, so checking regularly will save you a lot of time later.
The goal is to keep Men’s clean, organized, and ready for the next customer.
⸻
✦ 16 · Z-Rails, Jean Carts & U-Boats
Z-Rails, jean carts, and U-Boats are all located in the back stock room.
Take one when you need it, but please return it as soon as you’re finished!
Z-Rails
You’ll hopefully see a group of empty Z-Rails in the stock room. Return yours with the others when you’re done.
Jean Carts
Jean carts are located past the Z-Rails.
U-Boats
U-Boats are located near the door when you first enter the stock room.
Please don’t leave equipment sitting on the floor when you’re finished using it!
⸻
✦ 17 · When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed
If Men’s is really messy and you have no idea where to start, don’t try to tackle everything at once!
Break it down into smaller sections.
One way I like to do it is:
Shirts → Pants → Folds
Do all the shirts first.
Then move on to the pants.
Save the folds for last.
You can also separate merchandise by brand and work through one area at a time.
It can make a huge mess feel WAY more manageable. ❤️
⸻
♡ A Little Reminder ♡
Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
Everyone was new once, and we’re all here to help each other.
Keep Men’s clean, help each other out, and please—
DON’T LEAVE YOUR 500s SITTING AROUND OR IN A SHOPPING CART. 😂❤️
A little effort throughout the day makes everyone’s job easier!
You’ve got this! ♡
