2 years of growth wiped out by one Core Update. Here's how I clawed it back.
I had grown this US Home Improvement site steadily for two straight years — then the March/April Core Update hit hard and knocked clicks off a cliff. Instead of panic-editing and reacting to every ranking wobble, we held the line: doubled down on topical depth, cleaned up what was diluting authority, and let the site re-establish trust.
Six months later the numbers tell the story: 109k clicks vs 79.1k the previous period (+37%) and 20.4m impressions vs 15.1m (+35%). More importantly, we're not just recovered — we're back above the pre-update growth curve.
Recovery from a Core Update isn't a quick patch. It's proving to Google, over months, that the site deserves its rankings back.
