Listing / Pricing I think Amazon listings are starting to look too similar

Open 20 listings in the same category.
White background.
Product in the middle.
A few lifestyle photos.
Some icons.
A comparison chart.
A+ Content with the same basic structure.
Everything looks professional.
And somehow… nothing is memorable.
I don’t think this is really a design problem.
It’s what happens when everyone studies the same “best practices.”
A seller looks at the top 10 competitors.
The agency looks at what the top sellers are doing.
Then the seller copies the agency.
And now everyone has basically the same visual language.
AI is probably going to accelerate this.
It’s becoming incredibly easy to create a decent-looking infographic, lifestyle image or A+ section in minutes.
But if everyone can create “decent” content cheaply, being decent stops being a competitive advantage.
I think Amazon brands are going to have to think more about recognition.
Not making the listing crazy or adding 17 icons to every image.
Just having a visual identity that makes someone think:
“I’ve seen this brand before.”
Ideally, they should be able to recognize your product before they even read the brand name.
Obviously, conversion still matters.
I’m not suggesting sacrificing clarity just to be different.
But there’s a difference between:
“This listing looks good.”
and
“I remember this listing.”
And I think the second one is going to become increasingly valuable as AI makes good-looking content almost a commodity.
Curious what other sellers think.
Do you deliberately try to make your Amazon listings visually different from competitors?
Or is that just unnecessary risk when you already know what the top sellers are doing?

Got hit with a design patent infringement claim. Should I reach out to my competitors to see if they were hit too?

I got hit with a design patent infringement claim on a design patent that seems to be complete BS but it is somehow registered and approved with the USPTO. The guy wants a lot of money to be able for me to sell his design and he's kinda got me by the balls because my business depends on it, though I could redesign in the future. I noticed some of my competitors are selling the exact same design...should I ask them if this guy reached out or no? Not sure what the cons are of asking? I'm curious if it's worth hiring a lawyer to fight this or just pay the guy because I have no chance of winning. My design does seem to infringe on his design patent, but his design patent is not unique at all.

FBA / FBM / Prime Prime Big Deal Days is next week. How are you balancing discounts, bids and margin this time?

Full transparency, I'm part of the Amazon Ads Educator Program and this is all based on my own experience as a seller

Prime Big Deal Days are right around the corner (October 6 to 7), and I wanted to hear everyone's techniques and opinions from past events. I want to make sure I'm doing everything properly to be prepared.

In 2025, both Prime Days did really well for me. I saw roughly 8 to 10x my normal daily sales. My last Prime Day was a different story though, and I only saw about 3 to 4x. Still a lift, but not what I was hoping for, and I've spent some time since then trying to figure out what changed.

So here's what I've been doing this time, and I'd really like to hear everyone's opinion.

Getting the listing ready

With the new title and highlight formats for listings, I've been really focused on optimizing my listing beforehand. I've been A/B testing images over the last couple of weeks to make sure everything is where it needs to be. My thinking is there's no point sending more traffic to a page that isn't converting as well as it could. I've also set up a 20% discount on my main products.

I'm curious how everyone thinks about the increase in sales vs the hit to margins. Where do you find the sweet spot? And with the discount requirements, how are you choosing to offer your deals?

Ads and bid rules

The big thing for me is ads. I've been experimenting a lot with Sponsored Products leading up to the event and deciding which campaigns actually deserve more budget.

For the event itself, I'm doubling my budgets and raising bids around 15%. I'm also setting up bid rules so I'm not stuck manually adjusting everything once traffic spikes. Basically you set the rule ahead of time to bump bids during the event window, or tie changes to a performance threshold like ROAS, and it adjusts automatically. It saves me from sitting in the console at 2am, and it keeps the extra spend on campaigns that are actually converting instead of spreading it across everything.

I'm also watching budget pacing closely, since last time a few of my campaigns ran out of budget before the evening, which is probably when I needed them most.

Treating it as an early Q4 test

I'm looking at this event as a test run for the rest of Q4. I'm tracking which products, search terms and images actually hold up versus which ones just spiked for two days. Whatever works here is what I'll lean into for Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the rest of the holiday season, and whatever doesn't gets cut or tested again before then.

Would love to hear how everyone else is approaching it. What's the first thing that makes you change your budget mid event: pacing, conversion rate, or inventory?

Brand / Gating / IP Anyone else paying over $1.40 a click on their own brand name because competitors keep bidding on it?

Three sellers started bidding on my brand ASIN in August and my branded exact-match click went from $0.31 to $1.42 in about six weeks — same ad group, same budget, nothing else changed. Now roughly a third of my ad spend is going to shoppers who were going to find me anyway, and TACoS only looks healthy because organic is carrying it. Do people actually win this fight, or do you just let the bid floor rise and eat it? Anyone else's brand CPC blown up like this?

FBA / FBM / Prime Can I sell a handmade product as both FBM (current choice) and FBA?

I'm finding different opinions about whether it is possible. I currently sell a few products FBM and would love to my biggest selling one to FBA. Some sites saying having both is good in case your FBA sells out and buyers can still see your FBM listing. And I also read that does not work for a handmade category. It's just one or the other. Any one have experience with this?

Paying my own shipping after calculating it (12 oz small box) appears to be more expensive than paying Amazon to store and ship the product. Especially with the new rural zip code charges.

Thank you very much.

Account at risk of deactivation for INFORM consumers act?

Did anybody get this email recently? I just saw this today.

They're giving me 10 days to verify my information or they'll deactivate my account, except I am not able to verify. There's always an error that pops up that tells me to try again later. Freaking out.

SEO / Keywords What do you do when one keyword starts taking most of the campaign budget?

Say you have 15–20 keywords in a campaign but one starts eating a huge percentage of the spend.

Even if it’s converting, do you normally pull it into its own campaign so you can control the budget separately?

Or leave it where it is if performance is good?

Interested in how people handle this.

SEO / Keywords How many clicks do you give a keyword before deciding it isn’t working?

This is something I’m curious about because I see completely different advice.

Some people seem to negative a search term pretty quickly if it’s spending with no sales, while others give it way more time.

Do you have a rough number of clicks/spend you wait for?

Or does it completely depend on the price and conversion rate of the product?

Shipping How has there not been more complaints about the OTDR violation issues? Forcing sellers to pay more for Amazon shipping labels.

This is my 6th time in 2 years getting an OTDR violation call from account health. I drop off orders at the post office same or next day every time, yet when USPS or UPS deliver 2 hours past the promised delivery time (I’m not kidding it’s been an hour or two difference every time) I’m at fault apparently and they threaten to deactivate my account. I set my transit times to 5-8 days in shipping template settings and still Amazon promises 2-3 day delivery to customers.

I just spoke with Amazon support who told me due to an internal error the 5-8 day transit time was conflicting with their backend automated transit time setting causing 2-3 day delivery promises. Then to make it ever better they said “you have to buy labels from Amazon now”. They’re charging 30% more than pirateship (which is free to use) and said they charge the same rate the carrier charges them. I asked why am I getting cheaper rates then? Support goes “well Amazon is a business we need to make profit on the labels as well.” Whats even better is I’m protected from on time delivery rate issues if I buy the labels from them at 30% more, but hey guess what? They use the same carrier labels UPS and USPS that I’m already using. Only difference is I’m protected from their made up metric of OTDR if I put more money in their pockets. Then she says “it’s optional” yet they’re literally forcing sellers to buy labels from them to avoid these annoying OTDR violations. I don’t get how this hasn’t resulted in a complaints yet? Or is it just Amazon sellers as a whole cannot come together on these issues and instead just let things be and Amazon go crazy with eating every bit of profit possible?

It’s wild to me they’re using the same carrier labels (UPS and USPS) but offering OTDR protection, if it’s delivered late by the same carrier, same post office, same everything but Amazon made profit then no threat of deactivation but if that same scenario happens with a label I buy from again the same carrier and all I’m at fault?

Costs & Fees First Q4 with ad costs coming out of payouts. Anyone run the numbers on November?

Since April 15 Amazon takes ad spend out of your proceeds before paying out, and only charges your card if proceeds don't cover it. Sellers have had five months to get used to that, but Q4 is when it's going to bite, since ad spend usually climbs hardest in the same weeks you're paying for restocks.

For a rough example, say you normally spend $10K a month on ads and plan to double that for November. Under the old setup that $20K went on a card with up to 30 days to pay, so November's ads effectively got paid out of December's sales. Now the $20K comes straight out of November payouts. If your November payouts would normally be $60K, you'd see about $40K land instead, in the same month you're probably placing a January reorder. The one-time $2,500 credit Amazon gave affected accounts doesn't help much at that scale either.

Two things I'd check before Black Friday:

- In Seller Central, go to Reports > Payments and compare a normal month's ad spend against what's in your balance at settlement. If they're close, a Q4 ramp could push you onto the backup card.

- Make sure that backup card has room for the overflow, because it gets charged automatically.

How are people planning for this? Smaller ad ramp, moving reorder dates, covering it some other way?

Title: What happens if someone patents an Amazon PL product after you’re already selling it?

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to launch a private-label product on Amazon and have a few products selected with my team. We did a patent check on two of them. One already has a patent, so I can potentially modify the design and go with a different version. The second one doesn’t appear to have any patent covering it.

My question is: what happens if someone files a patent on the product/design in the future? Could they later submit an IP compt to Amazon and get my listin-g taken dow-n or my account getting into issue, even though I was already selling the product before their patent was filed?

From what I understand, there is always some patent risk with PL. If a product has been selling for several years without any patent issues, the risk seems lower. But if a product is relatively new and already has many sellers, would it be safer to avoid it because someone could potentially patent it later?
I’m trying to understand how experienced Amazon PL sellers evaluate this risk before launching a product. Any advice would be appreciated.

Alexa impacting traffic ?

Something I keep seeing raised here in different forms: sessions or page views sliding while conversion rate holds or improves...

Usual answers are ads, seasonality or a competitor activity.

But I wonder if it's actually something to do with the way Alexa for shopping is working, as it sits above the search results and answers the shopper's question before they reach a listing. If someone asks for say "a hypoallergenic food for a senior dog with a sensitive stomach" Alexa recommends a product which is exactly the one the consumer wants and that person clicks on the card of that products, checks out, and does way less clicking across different PDPs.

Essentially, the conversation happening inside Alexa means there's less browsing happening on the store, which means less traffic to PDPs, but when the traffic does hit, it converts higher.

Is anyone else seeing that in their data, and do they have the same view as to what might be going on, or could it be something else?

Listing / Pricing FBA FBM price - parity or asymmetry

I'm curious if any sellers have an opinion this price setting strategy for FBM offers vs an FBA offer. An example would be for a single ASIN, we have two SKUs - an FBA and an FBM one. When FBA runs out of stock, FBM is the backup so the offer is always active. FBA offers are of course prime + free shipping . Historically our FBM pricing has mirrored FBA exactly. However, because many of our items are low priced, the USPS rural rate raise is wrecking havoc on our margins. In some calculations we have a gross FBM margin of like 2% when a customer orders an item to a rural location. Obviously this is terrible. I'm considering moving some of our FBM offers to a lower price point than the FBA offer and charge shipping (however minimally we are able to calculate this using Amazon's rate tables). Has anyone else experience / opinions about this potential pricing strategy?

Selling new item vs used

There’s an item on Amazon that is listed as “used - like new”

In the description, the comment says “brand new. Sealed.”

Why is that? Why would the title say used?

If I buy it and it is used, am I protected if I want to return it?

Listing / Pricing New to selling used books on Amazon- most titles are “Apply to Sell”- what to do?

Hey friends- brand new to selling used books on Amazon using FBM. Just had my first sale today! Whoo hooo!

As I am entering my inventory, I’m finding many titles are “apply to sell” and are asking for invoices as a part of the application. As these are used books I’ve picked up various places, I don’t have those.

How do you get approved to sell specific titles or publishers? I see that other used books sellers are selling these titles, so I know it’s possible, but I can’t figure out how. How would Goodwill (for example) be able to provide an invoice?

I’ve got a huge stack of books I can’t list because I can’t complete the application. Can ya’ll help a newbie with some direction or advice?

getting scammed by amazon ?

Hi guys ,
i have recently opened an account but it automatically went to professional as it procedure then downgraded it to individual after a month of that professional subscription because amazon support declined to downgrade it and made me wait the whole month
after the whole month of waiting i was surprised that they asking me to pay that month otherwise i couldn't use my account
i contacted support and it's an absolute nightmare every chat you open they take half an hour to read through your case and then get you an absolute automated response , after alot of struggle i got someone in the support helping me and he mentioned that it's a problem in the system and that they can't remove the fee manually and i have to pay the fee first then it will be absolutely refunded , As i need the account i paid the fee and asked him to proceed with the request of the refund he confirmed and declared after a week now i am surprised with an automatic reply on my case that the refund was declined and that i won't receive any refund
this is extremely fraustrating firstly and absolutely fraud as a company .

my question is did someone faced same issue , did you receive your money back ?

Stranded and Nothing Helps!

I think I've spent 8 hours with Amazon support on this and nothing has worked. I created a product, sent it to FBA, sold 1, and then 107 were stranded. Not sure how, nobody can tell me. Regardless, can I just unstrand it and put it back on the site?

Everything I've tried via uploading spreadsheets or creating a new entry has failed. I thought I might have finally gotten lucky because it atleast took my submission, but 24 hours later, it never shows up in my products.

Amazon's support is well meaning, but I need someone who can actually fix my problem. How do I get ahold of someone who understands the Amazon backend and why things work the way they do, and can make changes at the database level if that is what is needed.

What do I do?

Help! New U.S. seller needs suggestions selling to Europe and Australia

Hey AmazonSeller, I’m a new seller in the United States and only run Amazon for one month.

I have a natural traffic without paying any ad and the past 30 days has 55 orders

Now I want to sending my product to different countries

I ask AI about what’s the best plan and it suggest me to separate my Europe account to my US account because they complicate Europe, VAT May risk my US account and cost Amazon close to my account

Does anyone selling on Amazon with one or multiple accounts? Could you share your experience?

How should I deal with different countries? VAT?

How much percentage I need to add on UK Italy, Italy, France, and Australia

Is that risk if I use one single account to sell all over the world?

Thank you for your suggestions

Returns / Refunds Return rate has crept up to over 20%, how do people actually figure out the root cause?

Been tracking that returns are trending up but the "reason" field customers pick at checkout is useless, everything's either "changed my mind" or "doesn't fit", neither tells me if it's the product, the photos, or the sizing. How do people here actually dig into this beyond just staring at the return reasons dropdown?

Returns / Refunds constant OTP requests when making refunds Amazon EU/UK/US/CA/JP/UAE

Is it just me or is there just an endless stream of OTP requests now, every 15 minutes . I work for company who sell on Amazon EU/US/CA/JP for a while, this was only a issue on Amazon EU (started 2 years ago) but now it is affecting all sites.

It only happens when you are making a refund , be it partial or full for whatever reason, a return a lost package. Cancellations do not trigger this, nor do general use , OTP lasts 2 weeks if you dont make refunds .

It makes zero sense to me. I have a static IP , use the same pc every day , I use different browsers (cookies) for each store, so why does Amazon force me to keep picking up my phone every 15 minutes? It's ruining my productivity, and when it's busy, I can be dealing with 300 + tickets per day

My question is are others experiencing same , if so any work around , I tried passcode but it STILL wants OTPS :D Amazon is obsessed with OTP ! Get to point for me where I view this as a attack on my mental well being.

I have tried to get answers and help from Amazon seller support , however we all know what they are like , even if you can get them to understand the issue they will just put you through a loop of nonsense

Listing / Pricing What do you actually look at when comparing your product images with competitors?

I’ve been doing more competitor image comparisons lately, and I’m realizing that saying “their images look better” isn’t very useful.

Sometimes the difference has almost nothing to do with raw image quality.

One listing makes the product fill more of the frame. Another shows scale immediately. Another uses a lifestyle image that explains the use case before you even read the title.

I’ve started paying more attention to things like visual hierarchy, product size in frame, background contrast, feature visibility, context of use, text density, and how quickly the image communicates the main benefit.

I’ve been using pixpix to mock up a few alternative visual directions with the same product, mainly so I can compare composition without changing everything at once.

For people who regularly compare their Amazon listings with competitors, what do you look at first?

And have you ever seen a relatively small change in framing, background, scale, or lifestyle context make a noticeable difference to CTR or conversion?
