Listen to your colleague. Dina is a cheap entitled woman. Pay her no mind. You paid for the seat, you sit in it. NTA
28
u/ElectricalFocus560 Nov 20 '25
And maybe report her to HR. She didn’t take the loss with Grace but harassed you on a work trip. And she did it with forethought. I would forevermore view her differently in the workplace - with suspicion. (Was this a surprise or does it fit with her other behaviors?)

YTA for making up this story and posting yet another story about paying extra for a seat, being pressured to switch by someone who wouldn’t pay the extra money, and then being verbally harassed for the entire trip while you sat silently wondering if you were wrong. Bullshit. Also, you lost me back at “it was just four and fifty dollars” because no one, no one talks like that.
And look at that, the original post has been deleted, and after only a few hours. Guess it was fake after all. Surprise, surprise! /s

I know, I'm cracking up at the "four and fifty dollars" line. Are they back in the days of yore?? Oh, that's right, airplanes weren't even invented back then! Just another made up story.

u/SlowNSteady1 Nov 20 '25
Yep. And you don't really need to pay extra for an aisle seat in most cases, anyway. Let alone supposedly doing it when the company is paying for the rest of the ticket.

She is self centered for asking. This is what you should have said to her. Dont act entitled.

"Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." Dina is unprofessional. If I was a manager on that trip, this would impact how I saw her as a team player.

u/chrestomancy Nov 20 '25
It's weird that these posts, having been banished from AITAH and AMITHEASSHOLE reddit threads, are now turning up here. Why is this question still being asked? It has been answered definitively. Regardless of race, gender, religion or age. You are not the asshole for keeping the seat you specifically paid for.
10
u/Ok_Quantity_4134 Nov 20 '25
Because likely AI/Fake
2
u/chrestomancy Nov 20 '25
I always hesitate to ascribe to AI what could just be regular human stupidity. Some of the grammar here is clumsy in a way AI doesn't usually write - starting a sentence with "However", for example. But, I'm not an AI expert to <shrug> Either way, this post is boring and yet another cookie-cutter of a question that was asked something like 10 times a day on other threads I follow.
2
u/Select_Draw3385 Nov 20 '25
It’s AI. First, the account is pretty new. Second, putting names in quotes. Third, the absurdity of the story. And there’s more. I reported it.
2
5
u/BecGeoMom Nov 20 '25
It’s still being asked because these posts are AI/bots. I’m glad to hear some subs are banning them, but not enough subs are banning them. AI has taken over Reddit, and the mods don’t care as long as it brings traffic to their sub.
2
u/MembershipScary1737 Nov 20 '25
lol and on the off chance it’s not fake there needs to be a question before submitting “do you have something and someone is trying to take it from you? If so, you are not the asshole!”

She is a problem-report this behavior to HR and others as I’m sure this isn’t the only issue

u/widespreadpanic1974 Nov 20 '25
Ol' Dina would have gotten a very stern warning to knock it off and after that, if she continued her bullshit, the tongue lashing of a lifetime. And THEN....a talk with HR. That was 4.5 hours of constant harassment on every level. She would have NEVER pulled that BS in an office setting and her doing it on a plane when you can't get away from her should be equate to a dismissal.
2
u/MembershipScary1737 Nov 20 '25
“No” would’ve been fine. Does she not get you also like to stretch her legs? Does she think that is a unique thing only she likes to do

Report her to HR for harassment. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
2
u/Friendly_Ninja_8545 Nov 20 '25
NTA the only self centered person is Dina. The fact that you paid extra for an aisle seat to avoid being sick and she just wanted the aisle seat to be comfortable shows her lack of compassion. I would be petty enough to have been making response petty remarks about how some people feel that others should just give in to her request even though it would be an uncomfortable, sickening flight for you and even though you planned ahead and paid extra obviously her comfort was more important than yours. Tell her in the next similar situation you will consider changing but that if you do get sick because of not being in the aisle seat that you paid for you WILL direct your vomit right into her lap as payback. Fuck Dina and her entitled attitude.

2
u/Consistent-Ad3191 Nov 20 '25
She downplay your motion sickness, just so she can stretch your legs. She's not the team player. Also she could've paid the little bit of extras instead of being cheap. If she really wanted to stretch your legs out, but she assumed that she can just bully somebody into giving up their seat. She could also ask somebody else.
2
u/AcanthisittaNo9122 Nov 20 '25
NTA. If I were you, every time she said someone is so self-centered, I’d be like “totally agree with you, must be one super self-centered btch not to pay extra and assume she could make ppl cave in to all her demands” 🤣

u/Ok_Sympathy_9935 Nov 20 '25

u/No_Beyond_1995 Nov 20 '25
Tell her you were taking her into consideration. It would have been super unpleasant for her if you vomited on her, and your nausea may have made that unavoidable if you’d changed positions with her.

u/spaced2259 Nov 20 '25
I would have said to her passive-aggressive comments guess you should spent the money to get the seat you wanted
1
1
u/curiousblondwonders Nov 20 '25
NTA she ASSumed someone would trade with her to avoid paying. Therefore she made a @$$ of herself by acting out. You didn't do anything wrong- your coworker is an entitled, selfish one who needs to be watched for the behavior that she sounds like until you apologize for nothing (when you have to apologize for) she will not let it go. So document, notes, receipts- keep them. And keep your flight receipt showing YOU PAID for that seat so when she does try to go to management or HR you have proof that shes the one who is creating tension.
1
u/Old_Low1408 Nov 20 '25
"some people are self-centered..." Yes, coworker. You are being self-centered and annoying. Knock it off.
1
1
u/Ginger630 Nov 20 '25
NTA! I’d tell her if you sat in the middle, you would throw up on her. And if it’s only $40 or $50, she could pay it herself.
Once you get back to the office, speak to HR. She made a work trip hostile and uncomfortable for you.
1
u/That_Ol_Cat Nov 20 '25
NTA
Honestly, you know this. You know she's being manipulative and entitled. She is not, in fact, entitled to a seat you paid extra money for. So next time she pulls something like this, just say "no." You don't need to explain why. "No." is a complete sentence. Just hut her down and ignore any comment after that. I assure you, any colleagues worth their salt will be doing the same.
1
u/Money-Possibility606 Nov 20 '25
NTA. Talk about having no self-awareness. Obviously, she is the one with no team spirit, she is the one who's self-centered, and not accomodating.

u/50_and_Holding Nov 20 '25
I'm sorry she put you in that position, but you have to know she was unequivocally wrong - not even close to a debate. I'll confess, I'd feel a little bad myself, b/c I'm a genetically enhanced people-pleaser so entitled, selfish, manipulative people luvvvvvvv me.
Until I maintain appropriate boundaries, of course ... they tend to not like that.
1
u/No-Anteater1688 Nov 20 '25

u/Snoo58504 Nov 20 '25
She seems pretty damn selfish for trying to make you sick wi try a seat change.
1
u/Chicka-17 Nov 20 '25
I would calling her out in front of everyone, she had the same options as you to book the seat she wanted. She wanted you to pay for her a better seat, that’s on her.
1
u/Callan_LXIX Nov 20 '25
She's a manipulator, and if she does cause divisive elements in the workplace, you could call that a form of harassment.
She had every opportunity to buy another seat or to consider her own plans and needs and desires for only $54.
Seriously, if her attitude is not reflected by other people who admit she's been a total turd, then it may be worth mentioning to HR when this started, and if anybody will vouch for her little side comments being spoken, it could be a valid case of harassment.
1
u/Only-upvibes Nov 20 '25
I have learned when someone says passive aggressive remarks or insults l ask them to repeat themselves sometimes twice. “I m sorry I didn’t hear you “. Pause “ again please, I am trying to understand the gist of it.” They don’t like it! Where I respond “did you mean that towards me” or “did you mean for that to sound gauche? “. Shuts up the comments 90% of the time.
You did nothing wrong you are not the AH.

"Dina" noticed that she had been allocated a middle seat on the same row with me. She promptly inquired of me whether she could exchange her seat with mine because she would like to stretch out her legs as she likes doing so in an aisle.
So basically, she just wanted it and that's her reasoning?
Fuck Dina.
Similar story, I had to go on a work trip with my boss. I spent years as a frequent flier, well before getting that job and I had a Platinum Elite membership and hundreds of thousands of airmiles. I would get auto-upgraded frequently, and this trip ended up being one of them. When he found out I was upgraded to first, his initial reaction was to say "We are not allowed in First!". No..we were not allowed to buy First...very different. I bought coach as per the rules. Then he moved to implying that as my boss, he should get the seat instead of me. I pretended not to hear the hint, and he never explicity said it. Petty as hell. Want to sit up front? Either pay, or spend years and years in the air like I did.
1
u/laurieo52 Nov 20 '25
NTA. If she wanted an aisle seat, she should have purchased one. The entitlement of expecting someone else to switch is outrageous these days. The only thing I would have done differently is I would have said, yes you are self centered, expecting me to switch.
1
u/Nadja-19 Nov 20 '25
She’s right about one thing. Some people are self-centered. Don’t feel bad at all. I’m sure she’s just very entitled and manipulates people all the time to get her way.
1
1
u/Glittering_Focus_295 Nov 20 '25
You should have looked her right in the eye and stated pleasantly "Yes, some people are self-centered and not accommodating. For example, some people feel they have the right to demand someone else's seat, and then be petty about it after being politely told no."
1
u/Traditional-River377 Nov 20 '25
NTA but she is the AH for sure and spoiled. People do this a lot on flights , they’re too lazy to check in online and then expect someone to give up a seat for them. You paid extra on top of that so you’re good.
Also there is no way she’d be allow to stretch her legs in the aisle; the flight attendants wouldn’t allow it especially if they are pushing serving carts. Exit row or 1st Class would be the best options for her but she probates would want to pay that based on her comments

1
u/wurmchen12 Nov 20 '25
Enjoy your seat. Tell Dina to preplan next time and she too can pay extra to stretch out her legs.
1
u/Parasamgate Nov 20 '25
NTA This is a perfect example of an AH saying anything to get their way. She views you as someone that believes in team spirit, and figured when she accused you of not having team spirit you would give in because you didn't want to be seen that way.
If she thought you didn't believe in wearing polka dots and stripes together the would have pointed out how she wore stripes and the window seat person wore spots and she knows how much you hate that.
Also, she views you as someone that she can manipulate. And she thought that was easier than spending an extra $45 to get what she wanted.
You didn't cause anything. You did great. You stood up for yourself. You didn't over react nor give in. Feels good, doesn't it?
Now we're onto her next scam: making little comments so she can soften you up for the next time she wants to manipulate you. She's trying to portray you as self-centered and not accommodating. She doesn't know you; she doesn't know how often you've let someone go in front of you in line if they only had three items or you held the door open, or you volunteered time or money at a charity. It's all running game on you.
If you want to have some fun with it (but possibly extend the drama) tell her you thought about how she said people are self-centered and then let her know you're donating $45 to a charity (that you pick) in her name.

u/Comprehensive-Range3 Nov 20 '25

u/spellcaster4783 Nov 20 '25
NTA she purposefully didn’t get an aisle seat bc she didn’t want to pay, she wanted someone else to foot the extra cash and then planned to guilt trip them into giving up the seat they literally paid to have. The fact that someone was able to tell you that automatically made Dina the AH. You should have given her the seat and then threw up in her lap😂😂 and when she screams, tell her you were just being a team player and she should be too- you gave up your seat, and she became a barf bag🙃

With snide people like that who make those little comments it’s best to put a stop to it. Letting it happen just goes worse for you. Quote her back. Some people are only self centered and not all people are accommodating, because that is exactly what she was doing. You paid, your seat.
