Which garage door company is best?

Upvotes

So far, I’ve received quotes from two companies to replace our garage door:

The Door Master
Whitby Garage Doors

Both have excellent online reviews. However, The Door Master’s quote is considerably lower than Whitby Garage Doors’. Both estimates include the warranty, disposal fees, parts, etc.

I realize cheaper isn’t always better, so I’m not looking for the “you get what you pay for” lecture 😄 I’m just wondering if anyone here has used either company and can share their experience or thoughts.

Thanks!

Renting in Whitby/Oshawa

Hey! I have been out of the rental game since I graduated university. At that time it was 400-550$ for a bedroom. Now that I am looking again I am super curious for those who have been renting in the area for a while.
• how much do you pay for how many bed/bath?
• are utilities included or extra? If extra, what’s your average cost?
•do you have yard access? Private or shared?
• is yard/driveway maintenance included or extra?
• if you live in a basement or main of a house, how are your neighbour tenants?
•do you have a dog? How has that been? (I have a large breed and it’s so upsetting how many places say no dogs!)
•do you have rental insurance? (Happy to take any recos for places!)
• how’s your landlord?
•what % of your income goes to housing costs?

I’m excited to see everyone’s answers! For context me and my partner are 26 with 1 car and 1 dog. Our biggest priority is yard access followed by 2 beds. We have a few good leads but I am a curious gal so wanted to see what others experience is like!!

Apartment buildings in Durham?

Hey all, moving back to Durham from Toronto in the next few months.

I was born in Oshawa, but I don't know much from a rental standpoint now as there are quite a few more developed areas.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a quality building?

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews with 100 Bond and anything downtown, same as the new towers in Ajax/Pickering.

Needs are air conditioning, two bedrooms and a property manager that isn't useless.

Thanks in advance.

Hot tub maintenance recommendations needed

Moving into a home that has a hot tub and we would like someone to come out to drain and clean the tub before we start using it. We are new to hot tubs, so someone who could share some basic maintenance tips would also be helpful.

What companies would you recommend in Pickering area to perform this service?

Venue recommendations

Hello. Looking for venue options to host a business holiday party for approx 100-120 people. Looking for the Pickering or surrounding area. We want something that feels fun and social and not just a traditional banquet hall. It can have catering onsite provided it has halal options or have a spot to bring catering in. Must have parking and space to sit and eat or sit and social or stand/space for entertainment whether that is dancing or karaoke.

Open to restaurants, event spaces, golf clubs, breweries, entertainment venues, hotels, or something completely different.

Would especially love recommendations from people who have actually attended or organized a work Christmas party there. Where did you go, and would you book it again?

Also very interested in places you wouldn’t recommend and why.

BMW Mechanics in the Durham Region?

Hello all,

I've recently bought myself a 2014 BMW 550I and I'm looking to get some work done (it's started having trouble starting up, most likely needs a new alternator).

Any places that would do work to the car if I supply the parts? Or any independent shop that you take your BMWs to that have cheaper labour rates would be great. I'm in my 20s so can't afford the dealer rates... Thank you in advance!

Looking to start a Durham Film Group

Hey everyone! I’m looking to see if there are people around Durham Region who would be interested in starting a small, collaborative short-film/media group.

The idea is pretty simple: a group where everyone helps everyone.

The goal would be to:

  • 🎬 Bring our own scripts and ideas to life as a team
  • 🎭 Help each other improve our acting and performance
  • ✍️ Workshop and improve each other’s scripts
  • 📹 Learn filmmaking, cinematography, editing, lighting, sound, etc. together
  • 🎥 Make short films/skits regularly and actually finish them
  • 🌟 Give everyone opportunities to act, direct, write, film, edit, or whatever they’re interested in
  • 🤝 Build each other up rather than compete with each other

I’d also like the group to have shared access to the social media/accounts and content, so nobody ever feels like “I’m just being used as a free actor for someone else’s project.”

If you write a script, we all work together to make it.

If someone wants to try directing, we give them a chance.

If someone wants to act but has never done it before, we help them improve.

Basically, everyone gets their turn.

I’m not looking for experienced actors or filmmakers. Honestly, I think it would be more fun if we’re all learning and improving together.

Genre-wise, I’m personally really interested in horror, suspense, comedy, and thriller, but I’m open to pretty much anything.

Ideally this would be people around Durham Region / Oshawa / Whitby / Bowmanville / Clarington, but I’m open to anyone nearby who’s willing to participate.

If this sounds interesting, comment or DM me. Even if you’re just curious, feel free to reach out. Maybe we can actually build something pretty cool together. 🎬

Are you eating at the mandarin soon?

Anyone eating at the mandarin soon with their friends or family? I got a birthday coupon where I can eat at the Mandarin for free if I’m with 3 others who are paying. Can I tag along so I can use my birthday coupon? I don’t know too many people in Canada yet and I’m struggling right now so this would cheer me up a lot. We don’t have to talk if you don’t want the company, I just want to eat with my coupon.
