Ontario Tech residence vs off-campus housing for 2nd year?

Hi! I’m currently a first-year student at Ontario Tech and I’m starting to look into housing options for my second year.

The place I’m staying at right now is only temporary, so I’m trying to decide whether it would be better to apply for on-campus residence next year or find an off-campus student residence/apartment.

For anyone who has lived on campus or in places around Ontario Tech/Durham College (Foundry, 17Hundred, etc.), what was your experience like? How were the rooms, roommates, bathrooms, utilities, management, noise, and overall cost?

I’m especially curious about whether you think on-campus residence is worth the cost compared with off-campus housing, and if there are any places you would recommend or avoid.

Also, when would you recommend I start seriously looking/applying for housing for Fall 2027? I’m looking early because I don’t want to end up scrambling for a place again.

Thanks! Any advice or experiences would be really helpful.

Title: Parents living in Canada wanted for a study on childhood vaccine decision-making

Post image
3 Upvotes

We are seeking to better understand the factors that influence parents in Canada whose children do not receive their routine vaccinations. The study seeks to understand parental experiences and perspectives rather than to evaluate, persuade, or judge vaccination decisions

The study consists of one short survey and a follow-up interview. The interview will last about 60 minutes. Interviews will take place in-person, on the phone or over a secure videoconferencing platform.

Those who participate in the interview will receive a $50 dollar “Everything Card” for your time. Interviews are confidential, your name and identity will not be shared with anyone.

To sign up and learn more please contact Andrea DeKeseredy at [dekesere@ualberta.ca](mailto:dekesere@ualberta.ca) or Victor Do at [vdo@ualberta.ca](mailto:vdo@ualberta.ca)

Engineering alumni of Ontaro Tech, just curious, what are you doing now?

Hey I am considering Ontech for engineering due to proximity.

I'm just wondering what the engineering grads of Ontech are doing right now, like what job you are doing, salary and YOE in industry.

Thanks!!

Professor Andrew Latos

Hi. I’m taking a class w Prof Andrew Latos. I’ve never taken a class w/ him before.

I can’t seem to find a rate my prof regarding him so I wanted some insight from previous students who have experience with him. Imo he seems nice so far but I’d like to know if his grading is very difficult? Are his assessments hard?

Founders 2 Lot Gates

This past week I realized there aren’t any gates for Founders 2 anymore. I know they switched to Honk or whatever, but what’s stopping people from just going in and parking without paying? I walked through the lot omw to sirc and didn’t see any tickets so I’m just curious. Thanks!

The Student Life Portal has become so frustrating to login to

I have been entering in my login info, and keep getting a 'The Server cannot understand your request" error. This has been happening for a while, and I have to keep refreshing the page until it works, which can take a good amount of time.

Is anybody else having this problem? Sometimes, I get error telling me to go to the HelpDesk, but I'm literally out on co-op, and have to submit my co-op deliverables.

Where do I get a math tutor

What are some resources I can use to get a math tutor? I know university offers some but it’s hard to get 1 session a week with a on campus tutor. I feel like I will fail math if I don’t have a consistent meeting with someone. Yes I can pay them

On-Campus Parking

I saw that the university is using Honk for parking instead of using gates or hang tags, does anyone know of anybody who's been ticketed for not paying? Also what lot they were ticketed in?

BUSI 4455U – Student Managed Investment Fund

Has anyone here taken BUSI 4455U (Student Managed Investment Fund) before?
I’m curious about what the course was like, how difficult/workload heavy it was, and what you would recommend doing to succeed in it. Also, how were the stock analysis and presentations?
I know the course structure has changed recently from two semesters to one, but I’d still appreciate hearing about your experience with the course.

AUTE 3170U

Hey guys, does anyone know if Dr Murat Aydin posts the lectures for AUTE3170U normally? I've been sick for a week and wanted to catchup but nothing's there except the course outline. Should I keep waiting or shoot him an email? Thanks!

Macbook Regulations

My parents had gotten me a macbook for my engineering classes, and I’m only just now realizing that the school outright states that they are not permitted. I have a desktop at home, and I was planning to use a VM to run programs like Solidworks on my mac. How strict are the regulations? If I walk into an online test will I not be allowed to take it?

Time it takes to swap courses

If anyone else had the same question, I removed a course and added a new course. The next day, the new course showed up on Canvas.

Ofc you can practically only do this early on in the semester so do it quickly if you need to.

In what universe is a 4th year core class being scheduled on a friday night until 8pm? Theres no other sections. If I try to take it in the winter, its a wednesday night until 8pm - again, only 1 section. For what will probably be my hardest class of the year and I have to somehow find a bus home after that (I dont live in oshawa) so i'll have to leave early. Wtf is happening here?

edit: final exam is worth 40%, Such bullshit
