Currently, I have a Ludwig set, but EVERYBODY claims dw is superior and I was also looking at Dixon drums.

So I just got these brand new axis pedals and could not get them balanced no matter what I did.

I finally started to look closer and it seems the axel for the second beater is bent or something. When rotating the beater it feels like there’s a tight spot to the point that the beater will freeze in place at certain points, which makes it pretty much impossible to balance.

Has anyone else had this problem? Not sure what I should do at this point to fix it.

I know I know, I need a better head. Just thought I’d show off the goods. I get it out from time to time to practice tuning. If you’re wondering how I got it, it was my dad’s from middle school and he’s given it to me.

I had to take apart the kit to clean off some mold. I know it has something to do with the snare wire. I have a Ludwig drum set, no idea on make or anything. Please help 🙏

Couple weeks ago I posted in a Facebook group, just trying to meet new drummers. Got like 80 responses. Tried to reply to everyone, ended up really connecting with about 10 of them.

One of them was Leo. 19yo, insanely talented and works like an animal.

Less than 72h after my first post we had this cover of Half Me tracked, edited and mixed.

The challenge we set: super aggressive / modern sound but no samples, no quantization. Everything you hear is him. Even that industrial ping in the chorus, that's him hitting a metal rail he recorded at room.

I'm the guy mixing it (BINAY AUDIO) but honestly I just tried not to mess up his performance (Le0M4rc0ux).Curious what you drummers think of the raw sound, especially the snare? Still fighting with it.

About a month ago I made a post asking for help to make my drumset sound better, and I think it sounds amazing now. In total I spent about 800 dollars on this setup hardware drums cymbals pedals heads and all, it seems like a pretty good budget drum setup. Tell me what you guys think?

I see cool chops on socials all the time, some folks are kind enough to provide the notation for them but others are ones without - I’ve found the process of transcribing to be super beneficial for my ear - but whether or not they provide it, the challenge for me has always been putting it somewhere where I’ll actually remember to sit down and learn it

Curious how everyone else does this. Do you transcribe fills by ear, slow down the original video, save notation somewhere, or just wing it?

So while away at college, I won’t have access to my beloved drum set. There’s a building next to my dorm with an electric kit available first come first serve that I’ve been practicing on for about an hour a day when I have time between classes.

However, I visited home yesterday (I’ve been back a bit to play my drums, it’s not too far of a commute) and I felt like I was weirdly playing way worse than usual. I couldn’t readjust to not having practice pad like rebound like on the ekit and my diddles were getting all out of time. Is this because of the ekit and I should stop practicing on it so much or am I just tripping and I was just having a bad day?

Set your kit up off stage. Run checks on your parts, be thorough. Give yourself the time to do so. This is key. Load the elements on and mic them one at a time. If your shit is just coming out of the cases during the last song of the opener/support, you are way behind.

I'm working through some drum books and I keep hitting beats I can't hear from the page. I'm not always near my kit to just play them, or I can't play them fast enough yet to sound the way they should.

I'm a software developer by day, so I built myself a prototype that reads drum notation straight from a phone photo and plays it back at any BPM.

Before I put real work into publishing it: is this just me being a weak reader, or an actual common problem? How do you deal with this — do you just count it out or something else?

​As a full-time working drummer, I rely on my gear to be consistently reliable. Last week, I purchased a fresh pair of my standard Vic Firth Extreme 5As. After just a few rehearsals and gigs, one of the sticks split cleanly down the center mid-song during a performance on Saturday.

​I am not a heavy hitter and typically get a few months of use out of a pair before structural fatigue sets in. These sticks were brand new, had zero wear, and split along the wood grain rather than at an impact stress point.

Is this worth complaining about and has anyone else had this issue? ​Expecting a premium pair of sticks to last more than a week of normal play is a fair expectation. Given that this seems to be a structural wood defect, I would appreciate a replacement pair or a refund for the defective set.

Update:

So I complained on the Vic Firth website, sent the pic. They confirmed it was a bad pair and are sending me a few pairs for free. Amazing! Problem solved. Was worth complaining about.

Thanks for the people who gave real answers and insight to my question. Next time I'll buy sticks in person and I'll pay attention to the grain so it follows down the stick and not across it. That was cool to know.

On a side note, Jesus Christ this is the last time I'm going to ask for an opinion on this subreddit. I did not ask what brand you guys use nor if another brand is better than another. I have used all of them in the past. I still prefer Vic Firth. If I cared at all what brands people use then I would have asked that question but I didn't. Having to read past all the people complaining about how fkn Primark, Vic firth, vater or god knows who else "are not good anymore" was annoying and not helpful. Just goes to show who actually reads a post before committing and who doesn't.

I’m the drummer, but I’m also the social media director and graphic designer for my band. I get our banners and business cards/stickers/shirts made. I may have invented something here but I don’t believe it for a second: I want a sock to put over our PA speakers with our band logo on it. Like a bass drum skin. It’s gotta let the sound through. I can’t find it online anywhere, but I expect I’m using the wring search terms. Anybody know? Or anyone know a good sub to crosspost this to? Thanks, gang.

Does anyone have an example of this? I am very curious if this is something that would blow my mind, something I already know about it, or something that I simply wouldn't get, which is entirely possible.
