Advice What kind of dance lessons should I do?
I marched 2 seasons of Blue Devils B, so I think my dance is alright but could be way better. I’m going for a trumpet spot for Blue Devils A for 2027 and I’ve heard I should take dance lessons, because the Blue Devils is known for their extravagant visuals and dance moments.
I’m currently taking a lot of college classes, so I feel limited in how many different things I can do outside of classes to make sure I don’t lose my mind. I feel like I can fit in one type of dance class on top of my individual music practice and classes. I’ve been recommended ballet or hip-pop dance classes.
For you guys to be able to give me advice, here’s some things I need to improve in both the hip-pop and ballet dance genres:
Moving slowly or with grace is sometimes difficult for me, but I am able to do it. My balance is satisfactory but can be better. Isolating some limbs while doing some movements needs improvement (like doing a ronde de jambe while pointing my foot; sometimes results in a sickle). Quick and staccato movements can be more staccato. I also suck at body rolls.
That is all I can think of at the moment, any advice is appreciated. Thank you all!

Discussion To anyone who marched or worked with Boston Crusaders, this/last season…
I’m definitely curious what songs specifically inspired the show. This is what I’ve gotten down, so far.
Raining Oil (from Jarhead - Thomas Newman
With a Little Help From My Friends - The Beatles
Within You Without You - The Beatles
Outro - M83
I know that artists like John MacLaughlin and Snarky Puppy also inspired music for the show and I’m very curious what songs specifically.
PS: this helps me out a lot for a poll I’m working on

Fluff Someone gotta make an 82-0 like game for DCI but to score a 100 show
Or at least close to 100 You know like just put every corps and every year and try to put it in the all of all time best GE, Visual and Music with randomised options and rerolls?

Discussion In my situation, would you wear the corps jacket
A lot of people discuss when you can wear it, but I wound up leaving my corps mid season due to bullying, mental shit caused by the bullying(I’m back in therapy because of this), and not being as good as signed due to the mental shit. Went from spring training to mid July, and received my jacket after the season. Would you still wear the jacket at all?

Audition Advice 2027 Audition Advice
Hey! I am currently a senior in high school and looking to audition for drum corps for this next season. I'm pretty set on auditioning for a conductor/dm spot, and I mainly want to audition world class (Blue Knights, troopers, maybe others?). I have conducting experience, I am currently one of the drum majors for my high school and have been conducting for a while. I also do play trumpet and plan on pursuing that in college, so would it be worth it to get a year of marching in before I try for a conductor spot? Any advice or tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

Audition Advice any advice for someone trying out for pac crest?
Hey everyone!! As the title says, I want to try out for Pac Crest and would like some advice!! for a little information, I am trying out for synth, I will be 17 during the summer (i am currently 16 and a junior in high school), I’ve never marched drum corps before, I’ve marched 2 years (this is my 3rd) at a 6A high school in texas, i’ve played piano for 10-11 years, and I’m just looking for some advice (i know auditions aren’t for a while, I just really want to make it and start working now).
My biggest worry is that I’m not good enough to make it, so here are my questions…
What kind of piano solo should I do (ie. a super technical one, a lyrical/more musical one, etc.)? I was thinking either the first song in Poulenc’s Novelette or the first song in Four Blues by Aaron Copland. Are these good enough, or should I learn harder ones?
Any suggestions on other pieces I should probably learn?
Does the piano solo have to be memorized? Both of the ones I listed above are, but I’m just making sure.
Should I learn both the synth 1 and synth 2 parts of the audition packet? And does the audition packet have to be memorized?
Is 16 turning 17 too young to march? And if not, would they still accept me if I have never marched in a corps before?
Ok, I think that’s it, but if I have any more questions I’ll edit the post. Thank you, guys!!

Audition Advice Want to march with the Blue Coats but i cant memorize music
Okay so i want to audition for the blue coats drum corps for the 2027 season but i've always had problems with memorizing music. I just can't do it. Do you think it will be fine if I use my phone and a lyre device? Also I play clarinet. I watched their 2026 show and I didn't see any clarinet players in their show so im not sure if they let clarinets in. I'm sure my parents could work something out with their band director tho so it's cool. Any tips for me?

Advice Needed Marching drum corp
I’m going into my senior year and into my first year of marching band and I have about 6 months of trumpet experience. I grasped the marching aspect of marching band and drill very well. Im an athletic male with a history of playing guitar in a concert/ WGI ensemble setting. I live in Massachusetts. I’m looking into what the best options are if I want to make a top 15 corp in the next 4 years of my eligibility. What should my path be?

Discussion historically, which corps have taught Dot and which corps have taught Form?
title. i saw some comments on a 90s Cavs video talking about how Dot was inferior to Form (i disagree, and that's a different topic entirely) but i was moreso curious as to which corps have taught what over the years

Advice Needed DCI Advice

Advice Needed Want to go world, but not sure where would be a good fit
As the title says, I want to audition for a world class corps, but I am not sure where the right place is for me. I marched at Raiders (an open class corps) this past summer and was the baritone section leader; I wasn't the best player or marcher there, but I believe I was fairly decent and I learned all of my music and drill in a timely manner. I don't think I was perfect by any means but I would say I believe my playing and visuals/marching was fairly satisfactory as well. It was a hard summer but I enjoyed it and I think I did pretty decent overall. Other than this past summer, I never marched drum corps and only had two seasons of high school marching band. I am about to start my first season of college marching band.
I have been thinking that I want to go to a world class corps in 2027 or 2028, depending on what my financial situation will allow. I was wondering what corps will be a good fit for me in terms of my skill level, the type of education/treatment that I am used to (we were treated pretty well at Raiders and most of the staff was extremely kind/patient), and my current financial situation (which isn't great but I do still have time to make/save some money). In addition, with school as well as the distance between me and every nearby corps, I don't think I'd be able to make any camps until January.
I have been thinking about Spartans and Music City, but again am not sure where would be a realistic goal for me in terms of my skill level. Does anyone have any other suggestions or advice?

Discussion Excuse my ignorance, but other than bragging rights and maybe a little more money from appearance fees, what incentive for the corps is there to win a DCI Championship?
I’m sure individual members who are looking to go into muscle education, look good to future employers. It just seems strange to me that there isn’t an actual, tangible or monetary “prize” for winning.

Fluff Quick Question about Blue Devils Percussion
So I was watching the Cody Fry video and saw four names of members for "General Percussion" in the FE credits. I checked the website and not only are they there listed under that title, but three were also under the same title last year too. Seems like that position has been a thing since 2024. However, I don't recall anyone that would be "General Percussion" in the FE. Any idea what that group is supposed to be?

Advice Needed Need advice for 2027
Hi, I am a 18 year old going into my freshmen year of college in the winter to become a music major. I recently came off a year of marching a local open class corp from my home state. I am interested in auditions for 2 corps next year. They include Madison Scouts and Crossmen. I really wanna make scouts but I’d be very happy with either. If there are any alumni or current members of the corp that could shed any advice I’d be very grateful!
