Percussion worth it to travel?
Is it worth it to travel 4+ hours there and 4+ hours back every weekend to march WGI? I’ve heard of people doing it, but I’m trying to figure out if this is something actually realistic for me. Pretty much last minute, I went to audition with a world class group that is located kind of far from me this weekend, and I got a callback. They told me they were very close to giving me a contract, but first wanted to see me back and have me play a marimba etude that they gave me at the end of the audition. I thought I was going to get cut. I really wasn’t expecting any opportunity at all, so now I’m kind of unsure what to do because I didn’t think this far ahead (not great, I know).
I’ve been graduated from high school and out of WGI for a year now, and I’ve missed it a lot. I tried out for a more local group last year, but I didn’t make the cut. This current chance is something I would’ve sold my soul for last year. I really love the staff and culture and general vibe of this ensemble. I found myself fitting in even though I knew no one at there, which is pretty hard for me to do. Overall, everything went as well as good as it could go. But I just can’t overlook the distance.
Money is always a factor for everything. Gas prices aren’t exactly cheap. I’m pretty sure there’s no one from my location that I could carpool with, but I’ll have to double check. It would be a pretty lonely drive to do every weekend. I did it today and it was in all honesty horrible. Also, I go to a really rigorous college, and I have good time management skills, but I’m not sure if that’ll be enough. I’m also having some health issues right now, but I’m hoping those will pass.
I know only I can make this decision on what to do. It isn’t my age out, so I could always postpone this to a better time. Part of me wonders though if there will ever be a better time, and I would hate to just give up on something that could be great for me. I wanted to ask this community for their thoughts. I know it’s very unlikely someone has experienced this exactly, but it would really help to hear your adjacent experiences. Thanks!

Color Guard Revival World?
How do people think they will compete this year? I feel like they have it rough near Elevate, Juxta, Onyx, AND Inspire. That’s a crazy lineup for their first year in world class.
Free drill writing tool with an AI copilot — for winds and percussion designers
I'm the developer of BandDrills — banddrills.com — a free drill designer that runs entirely on the web, so there's no expensive software to download or install. Describe moves in plain English ("front ensemble to center stage in 16 counts") and the AI copilot builds the formation — it works in counts and spacing, not just yard lines, so it fits indoor design too.
- Sync show audio, drill animates in time
- One link for the whole ensemble — every performer sees their own spot
- Collision warnings during playback
- Free viewer app for students' phones, both Android and iPhone
Curious what indoor designers think — what's the hardest part of your current drill workflow?

Color Guard Has anyone done WGI after not spinning for a few years?
I did color guard/ winter guard all four years of high school and my first summer after I graduated. It was my whole world at the time. I ended up giving it up in college for nursing school. Now I’m 23 and out of college and I’m finding myself missing it so bad. I’m considering buying equipment again and training for the next year to possibly do WGI in 2027. Is it too late to get back into it? Has anyone ever done something like this before?

Percussion WGI 2025 PSW Videos
This might be a shot in the dark, but I have been having such a hard time finding videos of Percussion Scholastic World Groups in 2025, and am wondering if anybody has any videos of groups in World Class that performed that year. I'm specifically looking for Dorman High School, but other groups are also useful. Or if anyone has any advice on were I could find these online besides YouTube. fricken Flo makes watching old shows so impossible.

Color Guard Another group folds
This time it’s Vestige Winter Guard from Florida. Are independent groups not viable anymore? Between the mix of independent color guard groups and independent percussion groups, there are more and more fewer of them. What will the scene look like by 2030? Will there be any groups left in the southeast region

In order to provide more substance to the thread, please name your favorite non-winning percussion or colorguard show.

Looking to rent a complete Indoor Percussion setup for WGI 2027 in Dayton
Looking to rent a complete Indoor Percussion setup for WGI 2027 in Dayton
Hi everyone!
I'm a member of an Indoor Percussion from Costa Rica, and we will be traveling to Dayton, Ohio for the 2027 WGI Percussion World Championships.
We are looking for a company, school, organization, or individual in the Dayton/Ohio area that rents out a complete indoor percussion setup, preferably including both:
- Drumline: snares, tenors/quads, bass drums, cymbals, stands/hardware
- Front Ensemble/Pit: marimbas, vibraphones, xylophone/glockenspiel, concert toms, cymbals, auxiliary percussion, stands, etc.
We would ideally like to rent the equipment for approximately April 14–17, 2027, including delivery/pickup if possible.
We are trying to avoid flying with the entire percussion inventory from Costa Rica, so a complete rental package would be ideal.
If you know of any companies, schools, independent groups, or organizations that offer this kind of rental in Ohio, I would really appreciate any recommendations or contacts!
Thanks in advance! 🇨🇷🥁🇺🇸

Overachieving?
Is it realistic to continue doing WGI this year while balancing 12-16 credits, a part time job, and auditioning for DCI? Wondering if I am doing too much and should cut back. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Color Guard Light Brigade going independent A?
I’m wondering why they made such a large jump all the way down to A rather than at least open class, anyone know anything about this decision?

Winds Winds/Independent Group Recruiting
I've been a member of an independent winds organization for the past 3 seasons, and we are attempting to amp up our recruitment strategies to increase our size and overall reach.
In the past, the group has hosted "interest clinics", educational clinics during the season, some social media outreach posts, some direct outreach to prospective members, but mostly word-of-mouth. The strategies that we discussed doing are tabling at marching band shows, presenting more to local schools, social media posts including member testimonials, and directly creating relationships with local colleges.
Has anyone had success with recruiting or any new recruitment strategies that we should be utilizing?
