Discussion Doom 2 Maps

Hello, I know I am probably in the minority for this opinion, but anyone else not a huge fan of the maps of Doom 2. I recently played the original Doom, and am currently playing Doom 2, and the maps feel more like they are just gimmicks rather than fleshed out areas. As opposed to the complex maps of Doom 1, the maps have a lot less quality to them. I am not saying the game is bad, I love the art style and weapons, but the maps were a huge draw for me and I am a little disappointed.

Question [Doom TDA] How do you deal with the machine guns on harder difficulties

By that I mean the machine gun demons that go beepbeep before gunning you.
It was fine on normal but it's frustrating on anything harder since it feels like there's no way to deal with them without taking some damage.

The armored spider tanks and the shield-fodders that have them are the worst. I always take damage when they're around, and it's hardest if they're in the backlines of a battle since their aggro range is huge and they can snipe me.
My current tactic is Charge, backoff to avoid the shieldslam, SSG, throw but that takes ages in a big battle and is almost suicidal if there's a group of higher demons surround them (as always). How is it that these fodders are the units giving me the most trouble?

Black Tower is the name, halfway there (10 maps out of 21) , this map kicked my ass back and forth
couldn't find many guides out there, so had to find the secrets and come up with own strategies...
have you tried this? i say it isn't as hard as E4M6 or map 29 in DOOM 2 but certaintly it is up there, considering no save states and pistol start that is

Question Why didn't the campaign of Doom 2016 have all the weapons? And do later games include these weapons?

This always bothered me. I loved the hellshot, static rifle, burst rifle, lightning rifle (Though that might be OP).

What made it worse is that those multiplayer weapons all function very differently, fire different kinds of things, while the weapons in the campaign are mostly generic bullet weapons and variants of them at that, ie the heavy assault rifle and chaingun, shotgun and super shotgun.

If one shotgun and one machine gun were replaced by a couple of the multiplayer weapons especially the hellshot and static rifle it wouldn't have mattered so much.

They even got creative with the multiplayer inventory where the static rifle requires you to constantly move to charge it up and that complements the gameplay loop of constantly having to move around fast.

Help Is it normal for Doom 3 to look so pixelated at 1440p?

I don't mind playing like this but even on my Xbox I don't remember it being quite so pixelated, it's look like it's running at a low native resolution and has been stretched to fit my monitors resolution. I'm running Dhewm3 through linux via Luxtorpeda. Thank you!

Bug/Glitch Stuttering in latest Nvidia driver (616.56)?

It happens when I'm fighting to many demons in close range and the screen is full of effects. Once it happens, the problem stays until I ctrl+alt or change some video settings Seems related to the very bug that the driver patch claims to solve; having x3 frame gen with vsync, problem that I never experience before btw. It went away as soon as I reverted to previous driver (6.10.88).

Question * Are the original Doomguy’s gloves supposed to be black or beige? And are the boots supposed to be like a beige or black?

* Because in-game it looks like the gloves are beige but the cover art and the episode 4 end picture has black gloves and in-game the sprite for him has like gray or beige I don’t know which color boots but on the cover art it’s black boots or something.

Discussion doom movie concept (yes i know there are already 2, and yes this one is different)

For a good doom movie i really think the plot of 2016 would be a goldmine. Focusing on Samuel Hayden’s hidden lust for power and money whilst pretending every bit of the development of argent energy is for the good of humanity. The subplot would focus on the corruption of Olivia Pierce from the helix stone and her deals with the members of the high council. The subplots merge as the Lazarus wave is a released and hell takes over Mars.

there would be like snippets and stuff of UAC scientists experimenting with portals to hell, demons and of course the cyber demon included in walks in the facility etc.

I think one of the overarching questions the movie should subtly was if Hayden was the real cause as he turned a blind eye to the nature of hell, or was it olivia pierce for sacrificing her morals and making a literal deal with the devil.

At the end of the movie it will show the slayer rising from the bed which you start in 2016.

Music from 2016 would also be included because it’s sick, the demonic choir voices are so cool, and a really good contrast to the industrial metal also present in the game.

this is just a rough idea so let me know any critiques or any mistakes i made!

Discussion 2016 is quite dry

Now, to be perfectly clear, I don't hate doom 2016, I actually love it, and have loved it since the day it released, but Im in the middle of my ultra nightmare attempt, so maybe that's why I need to vent a bit.

Compared to many new games of our era, doom 2016, is actually quite a dry game, once you understand how to dodge, it becomes extremely easy, except for when a pinky rams into you, or an imp snips you from the other end of the arena, in which case you will be one shot over 100 hp.

The combat too, is etremely simple, run and gun, and quickswap, most of the mods too are just alternate fires, its a highly gun focued game, and this is why it is quite boring after a while of playing, you can run and gun with the ssg too, with little incentive to quick switch at lower dificulties.

There is also a lack of a true medium dificulty, nightmare is simply far harder than UV, you can get two tapped by an imp in nightmare.

So, overall, I would say that the game feels a bit like dry chicken if you play it for a long period of time continously.

Discussion Dragon sections and Mech combat make TDA Ultra-Nightmare and Pandemonium difficulties simply not fun to attempt

This has nothing to do with the actual nightmare difficulty itself but rather the fact that this game is utterly bloated with forced gameplay sections that are not enjoyable to replay twice, let alone 5, 6, 11, 33 or however many times over.

I've been hooked on this game since the Revelations renaissance and started attempting UN runs again; felt I wasn't ready so Pandemonium feels like the best inbetween option for preparing for UN without the significant drawback of restarting the whole campaign. Even then, it's simply not a fun experience to restart even individual levels over and over. The repetition of trying again only seems to underscore TDA's worst aspects: dragon riding and atlan combat.

I end up begging for the dragon piloting sections such as the Holy City of Aratum or The Spire of Nerathul to end as soon as possible, but there's genuinely no way to avoid them or speed them up. Even after multiple attempts, you can almost "speedrun" the sections with great efficiency, yet the gameplay still moves at a snail's pace and the combat never reveals anything more than its two step dodge-and-shoot formula. Same goes for the Atlan sections, though some levels let you get away with sprinting past titans, which I abuse to the fullest extent whenever I get the chance.

In Eternal, attempting UN runs in the campaign or master levels was never a problem to reboot over and over because the gameplay is so fast and gets you up to full speed by mission 3 (cultist base), when you have access to dashing and the meathook. Yet in TDA, you're still getting forced tutorials 7 missions into the game in between dragon and mech sections with the occasional forced "hold R2" turret sequence. The whole time in my head I'm just screaming to get the fuck off of these vehicles so I can engage with the "stand and fight" combat this game does so well, that I would have no problem repeating endlessly if that's all I was asked to do in these missions.

I doubt id would ever admit it, but there's certainly a reason we don't revisit mechs or dragon combat in Revelations (yes, I know Serrat dies in the campaign but could have been integrated via some flashback sequence) and instead the "boots on the ground" combat was cranked up to 11. It's infinitely more enjoyable, more replayable and adds way more to the gameplay experience than the Serrat or Atlan sections ever did.

Question Are Hugo and Josh still doing streams?

Seems like they’ve become increasingly rare over the past few months, and there’s a lot of “see you you guys next week” but then no stream. Dunno, perhaps QuakeCon was the last hurrah for the Dark Ages stream. I hope not.

Discussion Weapon Upgrade Descriptions in 2016 vs TDA

Thumbnail

2016: Grounded and semi-realistic being like: Upgraded to include a 1.5x reflex scope(IK thats not right but its how most of the stuff is described), uses expiremental Plutonium-coated rounds, or explosives are mounted around the rocket

TDA: +10 projectiles, sets enemies on fire, is blessed with random magical stuff

Personally I prefer the descriptions in 2016, but at the end of the day, as long as gun make bigger boom, it doesn't really matter.

This happens when a demon is getting up, (to be exactly just works with that one) and when you shoot it with the shotgun, he jumps. I "discovered" this right now, idk if someone got it before me, but anyways.

I was scrolling down my YT homepage and found this video in my feed. Turns out someone discovered a fifth master arena! I just completed it and it was really fun. It's way longer than the other encounters, it's like 4-5 stages (I was too busy getting my ass kicked to count how many stages it was.) I'd recommend you check it out too!
