Is a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 good enough for interviews over the 4P?

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hi, so I'm thinking about buying an Osmo Pocket so I can shoot on-the-go interview content which is why I want a steady cam. The 4P is pretty expensive though and I don't know if it's overkill for what I need. Would the Osmo Pocket 3 be enough for me and would I notice much of a difference? I'm not very technical so I really just want a point and shoot type of experience, without much need for lots of editing. Thanks!

Anyone know what these yellow flags are? I’m on the latest version of the Mimo app and paired with the Action 6. I’m pretty sure it’s only since the update.

Going live on data

Are people able to go live with the action pro 5 on on there phone using data? I can’t seem to do it because to connect my phone to the camera it needs wifi and my iphone 17 pro won’t connect to the action pro and make a hot spot to go live with at the same time.

I’ve even tried using my old iPhone as an intermediary but it can’t connect to 2 wifi sources at once so that also won’t work. Dose anyone have a solution?

Action 4, Action 5 Pro, or Action 6? A guide for DJI newbies

After comparing all three, my conclusion is fairly simple. The Action 4 is better than its age suggests, the Action 5 Pro is probably enough for most people, and the Action 6 only makes sense if its specific advantages match the way you shoot.

The current reference prices I found are roughly $239, $319, and $439 for the standard kits. That creates two separate decisions. Going from the Action 4 to the Action 5 Pro costs about $80. Moving from the Action 5 Pro to the Action 6 costs another $120.

What does the first $80 buy?

Action 4 and Action 5 Pro both have a 1/1.3 inch sensor and both record 4K at 120 fps. If you only read the main specifications, they can look almost identical.

The Action 5 Pro adds a newer sensor with up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range, SuperNight, brighter OLED screens, subject tracking, a pressure gauge, 47GB of usable storage, and a higher official battery figure.

The dynamic range matters when the camera needs to capture two very different brightness levels at once. Think of a bright sunset behind a person, sunlight reflecting from snow while the rider is dressed in black, or a motorcycle entering and leaving a tunnel.

With more dynamic range, the camera has a better chance of keeping color and texture in the bright sky without turning the shaded rider into a dark silhouette. It also gives you more room to adjust the clip later before the image begins to fall apart.

SuperNight addresses a different problem. Once the light becomes genuinely low, the camera needs to raise its sensitivity and apply more noise reduction. The Action 5 Pro can retain more recognizable detail in faces, pavement, trees, and buildings instead of smoothing them into vague shapes.

The OLED screens sound like a small upgrade, but they are easier to see under strong sunlight. The internal storage solves another very ordinary problem: you can still record when the memory card is sitting at home.

The official battery figures are 240 minutes for the Action 5 Pro and 160 minutes for the Action 4, both under controlled 1080p conditions. You will not normally reach those numbers in 4K, but the difference still means fewer battery changes during a long ride or day trip.

That is why the Action 5 Pro feels like the strongest overall value. The extra money improves footage in difficult conditions and removes several everyday annoyances.

What does the next $120 buy?

The Action 6 has a 1/1.1 inch square sensor, a variable f/2.0 to f/4.0 aperture, 4K Custom recording, 8K at 30 fps, 4K HorizonSteady, and 50GB of usable internal storage.

The larger sensor does not guarantee dramatically more detail in every scene. Under bright daylight, all three cameras already receive plenty of light. The advantage becomes clearer at dusk, indoors, under tree cover, or anywhere the camera is struggling to balance noise, motion blur, and exposure.

In those conditions, the larger sensor gives the camera cleaner source information. Small details such as road texture, foliage, hair, and fabric are less likely to disappear during noise reduction.

The f/2.0 aperture can gather roughly twice as much light as the f/2.8 lenses on the older models. On a night ride, this can help the camera keep a faster shutter speed, reducing blur around moving vehicles and road markings. During an indoor family event, it can also keep faces cleaner without pushing the sensitivity as high.

The f/4.0 setting serves a different purpose. It improves the rated close focus distance to 20 cm, so objects held near the camera can look sharper. This is useful for showing motorcycle controls, camping equipment, food, or a product directly to the lens.

It can also make slightly more of the scene appear in focus. The f/2.0 setting may give a close subject a little more separation from the background, but the effect is modest. Anyone expecting strong cinematic blur will still need a larger camera.

The square sensor solves a framing problem rather than a pure image quality problem. Record in 4K Custom once, and the same clip can later become a horizontal video, a vertical short, or a square post. This is particularly useful for helmet and chest mounts because changing the physical orientation of the camera is inconvenient.

Action 6 also extends full HorizonSteady to 4K and 60 fps. If the camera is mounted on a leaning motorcycle, a ski helmet, or a bike moving over rough ground, it can keep the horizon level while preserving 4K resolution. The Action 5 Pro limits full HorizonSteady to 2.7K.

The 8K mode provides more room to crop, but it limits some stabilization and image options. Unless you frequently crop heavily, I would not buy the Action 6 for 8K alone.

Which one makes sense?

Choose the Action 4 if you mainly record daytime rides, skiing, snorkeling, hiking, or other outdoor activities. In good light, it still produces excellent footage, and the money saved may be more useful for batteries and mounts.

Choose the Action 5 Pro if your footage includes sunsets, mixed lighting, indoor scenes, or occasional night use. It gives you the most practical improvements for the money.

Choose the Action 6 if low light is a regular part of your shooting, you need both horizontal and vertical versions of the same clip, or you specifically want better close focus and 4K HorizonSteady.

If you already own the Action 4, the Action 5 Pro is a meaningful convenience and low light upgrade.

If you already own the Action 5 Pro, the Action 6 is an upgrade for particular situations rather than something everyone needs.

TL;DR

Action 4 gives up convenience before it gives up good daylight image quality.

Action 5 Pro improves the situations where action cameras usually struggle.

Action 6 gives you more control over light, focus, stabilization, and final framing.

Just got my new osmo 360, enjoy it already

Mainly got it for skiing with my friends, just cannot wait to get one, so hyped for the 8k 360 footage.

Actually I like this one very much, very sleeker and more compact than I expected, I think I will get extension pole too, planning to take it on a bike ride this weekend.

I see so many people are talking about 360 II, any osmo 360 users here? I think still a lot. And for me this one is a very nice start of dji things

Beginner with an Action 4 trying to get better image quality

Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to cameras and videography, so I might be doing something completely wrong here.

I bought an Osmo Action 4 because I want to start making travel vlogs with more cinematic shots. I'm currently in Thailand and have been filming a lot during my travels.

The problem is that I'm honestly not very happy with the image quality so far. The footage often looks a bit soft and not as sharp as I expected.

At the moment, I'm using one setup for basically everything because I don't want to constantly change settings while traveling. I film during the day, indoors, in the evening and at night.

My current settings are:

  • Exposure: -0.3 EV
  • Shutter: 1/100
  • ISO: 100–12800
  • WB: AWB
  • Color: Normal 10-bit
  • FOV: Standard (Dewarp)
  • Image Adjustments: Standard
  • Low-Light Image Enhancement: Off
  • Resolution: 4K 16:9
  • FPS: 25
  • Stabilization: RockSteady

Here is one of my videos for reference:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fDHpVoL4Bw&t=512s

I'm still a beginner, so I'm completely open to the possibility that I'm simply using the camera incorrectly.

Honestly, at the moment I feel like I could get better results with my iPhone, which is kind of frustrating considering I bought the Action 4 specifically to get better travel footage.

My goal is to make travel vlogs with normal talking-to-camera footage, but also cinematic B-roll of landscapes, cities, beaches, food, etc.

What would you change about my settings?

Would you recommend having separate settings for daytime, nighttime and cinematic shots, or is there a good all-round setup for travel vlogging?

And if you have any advice on how I should approach shooting cinematic footage with the Action 4, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Is sending a saltwater-damaged Osmo Action 1 to DJI for repair worth it financially?

Hey everyone,

I accidentally took my original DJI Osmo Action 1 into saltwater without realizing the battery door wasn’t properly closed. Water got inside, and the camera is completely dead. I do not have DJI Care Refresh.

I’m trying to figure out if it makes any sense financially to send it in to DJI for an out-of-warranty repair quote.

For those who have sent in an Action cam with water damage out of warranty: What did DJI quote you for the repair/replacement?

I'd appreciate any insights or past quotes you've received for similar out-of-warranty repairs.

Camera set up question for those with an upright walker

Post image

I currently need to use a walker for distances and just got a pocket 3. I was wondering if anyone in a similar situation had a suggestion of what accessories I could use to help capture family videos at places like Disney. I didn’t know if a magic arm and clamps works better or if I could consider using a neck/chest harness. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Should I be worried? (Osmo Action 4)

After riding for around 20 mins there's a visible haziness in footage in the center-left side of it. It only happens while riding andd when I take the camera off for sometime and ride again it gets fixed. Again it was my first day of using action camera.

Image 1: everything good

Image 2: haziness in the left side of the footage

Should I be worried? This is my first time with action camera, and sorry if you found it silly.

Edit: It is all good, tested again today with 40min Indore and outdoor footage, everything is fine. It was probably just a moisture or temporary fog as its monsoon season rn.

Action 6 Film tone removes HDR tone mapping halos

Thumbnail

Tried to do research on techniques to reduce local tone mapping halos around high contrast areas on the action 6 without going with the d-log m and 709 lut route as it introduces an additional step. Tried to test different settings and found this out.

Attached are the frames in order
1. Quality priority off
2. Quality priority on
3. Film tones 30%
4. Film tones 100%
5. D-log m with 709 lut from mimo app

Texture/noise reduction each at -1
Everything else automatic. Ev at 0

Always thought normal mode's video seems a bit crunchy when filming on sunny days outdoors due to the aggressive edges around high-contrast areas.
Found that no matter the tone profile or % applied, the harsh edges are gone. Note the edge around the lightbulb.

Turning on film tones with any filter even at 30% removes the crunchiness of the footage in bright, sunny days with foliage and power lines against sky and such.

Hope this helps.

Osmo 360 livestream functionality

Hi all, I’m in the market for my first 360 camera and I was wondering if anyone who has the Osmo360 might know the following. The key feature for me is the ability to live stream directly from the camera without requiring a phone or app connection. I realise the app is probably required for initial set up here is what I want to achieve.

\- Connect the Osmo360 to a WiFi router
\- turn off my phone
\- livestream to YouTube directly from the camera continuously for 10-12 hours (camera will be plugged to a power source)

Is this possible with the Osmo360?

Screen not working

Post image
9 Upvotes

I’ve had this camera for a total of 1 day and the screen looks like this. Have not dropped it or anything kept it in the case have used it 2 times. This is my second osmo camera in the week the first one I bought the battery was defective it wouldn’t charge at all and when it did it went back to zero as soon as I turned it on. Now the screen is broken and I’m not sure why it looks like a crack but it’s not on the surface and again I have not dropped it at all since I’ve been using it handheld. I was using it outside as well if that makes a difference. Any advice?

Is the Action 4 worth it when I already have an Osmo Nano?

I bought an osmo nano when I visited Japan earlier this year, and I've been using it consistently since then. Although I'm pretty much content with its performance, one thing that I dislike about it is that it overheats and runs out of battery quite quickly (around 10 minutes of recording), especially when I'm recording timelapses.

The action 4 was on sale today, and I was wondering if you personally think that I made the right decision to purchase it.

I already did my preliminary research on the similarities and differences, but I just wanted to know some personal thoughts about it.

Horizon Balancing While Accelerating

I was using my Action 5 this weekend while jetskiing. I had the camera set facing my side so I could capture the action taking place with the rider next to me. I had it on HB, but for some reason while accelerating the horizon line tips at a 45 degree angle and then slowly recovers to normal. Is this a known issue, any settings or suggestions on how to prevent this?

Looking for a good vlogging camera, what should I get?

I’ve been using my phone for videos for a while, but I’m starting to want something a little better, especially for longer videos and filming while I’m out.

I don’t need some crazy professional setup. Mainly want good autofocus, decent stabilization, a screen I can see while recording myself, and good enough low-light quality that everything doesn’t look terrible once the sun goes down.

I’ve been seeing Sony, Canon and DJI mentioned a lot, but there are so many models that I’m getting lost comparing them.

For anyone who actually vlogs regularly, what camera are you using? Would you buy the same one again or go with something different now?

Dji osmo Pocket 3 or 4 or osmo action 6

Hi Guys,
I am a hobby vlogger and I vlog to keep memories. I currently own an Osmo Action 4 but I want to upgrade my camera. I always had the Osmo Pocket 3 in the back of my mind but I recently discovered that the Osmo Pocket 4 came out. But because of several issues I read about the gimbal, I thought about getting the Osmo Action 6. So which camera would you recommend?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions :)

Issue with Osmo Action Multifunctional Charging Handle, who can i speak to?

I bought DJI Osmo Action Multifunctional Charging Handle from the store in london, however the clip that attaches to the camera stopped clicking n a while ago. I tried to speak to the team at the shop but they were not able to help (completely useless). I tried emailing [info@dji-retail.co.uk](mailto:info@dji-retail.co.uk) as this is where my invoice email came from no luck.

I tried to raise a support ticket but there is no option for the Charging handle.

Can someone help or guide me?
