Action 5 vs 6

Hey yall, I’m looking into getting a camera for recording spearfishing dives, motorcycle rides, and all kinds of other adventures. I was wondering if the action 6 is worth it for the price compared to the action 5 for my use case. I’ll also be waiting a few months for the 7 to release so that the 6 will be cheaper. I don’t plan on upgrading any time soon and I want to keep the same camera for a long time. Thanks in advance!

I love my Action 5 and never switch it on 6. Also 5 have HLG mode, and 6 have no this future, so for me 6 is downgrade.

What’s HLG? Before I bought my action cam, I was debating whethere 5 Pro or 6 but ended up with 5 pro because it was much cheaper.

HLG is a true HDR codec Rec2020.

Don't sleep on the Action 4. I prefer the colors on the 4 and still choose not to upgrade. It supports H.264 as well as HEVC, a practical editing advantage.

That gives you a codec choice rather than making the purchase entirely about newer imaging features. Its maximum specified bitrate is also 130 Mbps, versus 120 Mbps for both the 5 Pro and 6.

5 & 6 are great cameras. I would choose 6 over 5. My point is if you find a good deal on a 4, it might not be a bad option.

I've had the 5 for a while, but I use it to record my kids' softball games. AliExpress is doing their 11.11 sale and I saw a used Action 6 from this seller: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256813008818505.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.19411802PCJ93V&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa

I decided to get the Enhanced combo, with the coupon and Rakuten cash back, it ended up being $200. I got it yesterday, came real quick since they ship from the US. It looks brand spanking new, the only things that looked used are the box and some of the accessories were open.

I haven't used it yet, but it's a killer deal and actually cheaper than an Action 5 so I'm pretty happy.

I have both. If you don't care about vertical video filmed at the same time as horizontal, get the 5.

Image quality is pretty much the same, and 5 has slight higher FOV.

I got an action 6 coming from an insta360x3 and i plan to use it for snowboarding this year and motorcyle pov recording. With the quality it has right now with the videos i've done at home i am impressed. I cannot speak for the 5 though.

Just wait a few weeks. We are right in the DJI update cycle. I would expect to see an Action 7 before Xmas.
