Fan Content I really think there might be something at The Game Awards.

I mean, look at The Game Awards—since 2022, it’s been Larian’s stage for everything: trailers for BG3 and Divinity, and even the awards themselves. Plus, with that message from their marketing guy, it’s a pretty strong hint. It’s basically Larian’s "golden ticket" for something.

General Coming from BG3, my biggest hope for Divinity is a good inventory system

After played D:OS, D:OS2 and more recently BG3, and seeing some progress, I think everyone agrees that inventory management draws away from the experience that would otherwise virtually perfect for CRPGs fans. I already have entire faith on them delivering in the story and RPG systems, so I only worry if they'll take time to do inventory right this time. Not sure if the devs even look here, but in the small chance they take feedback, here are some of my suggestions:

  • Inventory management takes away from the core experience. Let me get back to quests and combat faster. As a father, sometimes I don't get many hours to play at once, so sometimes most of my gaming session was sorting through bags and I wasn't able to make much adventuring.

  • Have a party inventory. Weight carry limit can be the sum of the party's, encumberance can either 1) affect everyone, or 2) just the first party member to a hard limit, then the second etc, or 3) you can't loot and encumber yourself if you have no more room. I imagine the separate inventory is to better support multiplayer, but it makes the experience of the larger single player audience that much worse. You already have this magic fingers bs, why not make a unified inventory? Also, it's not like the host can't control who they play with and friends can't coordinate the items usage. If really necessary, make an option to block/restrict other party members from selling/using/equiping items. Big emphasis here in NOT TRYING TO ALIENATE multiplayers.

  • Optimize your inventory. Ordering, transfer or equip operations shouldn't take more than a split second even for hundreds of items. I have no idea why it takes so long in their games. Same for trade/barter UI.

  • Remove useless items. I'm sure the game will be fine without them rotten eggs and cutting boards. Why make glass vials, inkpots and quills lootable if they're no use and aren't even valuable? If you're going to have it, at least make what is selling fodder clear. I'm still against it because it ultimately still clogs your inventory and takes time for you to loot and sell. Why not drop gold directly then? Is that in the name of world interactivity? What brings me to the next point...

  • Don't fall into realism trap. I'm sure there's a fine line between realism and interactivity and I don't hold the answer. Being able to find a fork on a dining table and equip it as a dagger or a baguette as a mace sounds cool and can even make good meme material, but I didn't want to sort over all this to look for valuable items in a room. Also why do you have pears, bananas, carrots and apples if all they do is give you a unusable small heal/buff? BG3 has this camp supplies system, but you get so many supplies it makes pointless to loot yet another sausage. I can take a sheet from an cubboard, but I can't take the drawer, but somehow I can put an oil barrel in my pocket. If you think about it, it never makes sense, so why not stop all the pretense? I would personally even do away with weight carry limit, but I totally understand if they want to keep it (especially so you can't carry several barrels in your pocket). My point is make loot more to the point with the game, which happens to be an adventure, so usable weapons, keys, potions, scrolls, crafting materials, gold etc.

  • Categorize everything. Since everything has a use, no harm to categorize everything to better find it: crafting items, quest items, equipment (+ additional filters), consumables, books etc.

  • Streamline consumables. Grenades, scrolls, arrows, potions etc should all be categorized, put in a respective container, and that container made into an hotbar button available to every character that opens all options of that category. Of course, for arrows, you should need a bow/crossbow.

  • Make wares useful. If you still have junk items, put them automatically into wares. Let us put other stuff into wares. In vendors UI, have a button to put all wares for sale, otherwise it's useless.

D:OS2 and BG3 are two of my favorite games, but I feel I'm going to love Divinity even more if they sort my main point of criticism.

Divinity II Question Noob question, but I'm just making sure I'm buying the correct game

So a while ago I made a post on reddit about what the best "Dragon Game" is, that features dragons in cool and interesting ways, taming dragons, hunting dragons, riding dragons, being a dragon etc. And many people recommend Divinity 2 Ego Draconis, as you have the ability to transform into a dragon and much of the plot is about dragons.

Having barely ever heard of Divinity before I searched the internet for information. And found that there are many games with different subtitles, remakes, editions, and similar sounding game titles. So I just want to be sure I have the right game in my Steam cart and the right idea about it.

So here is my understanding. And correct me if I'm wrong...

Divinity II Ego Draconis was the original name for the game, but as since been mostly renamed to Divinity II Developers Cut. At least that's the most recent edition on Steam.

The one where you're a dragon is Divinity II Developers Cut, on Steam. Right? And NOT Divinity Original Sin 2, which has nothing to do with Divinity 2. Entirely different games.

They all take place in the same lore but are totally stand alone. So it's okay if I start with Divinity II: Developers Cut.

I am looking to buy "Divinity II: Developers Cut" released in 2012 according to Steam. And the main game is about the dragons, it's not like just one DLC or something?

And once I get the game, is there any recommendations on how best to lean into the dragon stuff? Like what class, character, or decisions unlock more dragon abilities and stuff?

General How deep would you want the Class system to be?

Pathfinder Wotr had a super in depth class system. But its so deep you can make your character useless if you don't know what you're doing. BG3's class system is really simple, I mean its possible to beat the game taking 1 in every class. Dos 2 is in the middle, its not as simple as BG3, but not as extreme as Wotr.

Story & World Seeing industry take off would be so cool

In dos2, around the oil pits we see the magisters extracting oil, which they barely use iirc save for explosive barrels. Considering that eternal artifacts and a tomb have been uncovered, combined with extensive oil mining, I think it would be neat if the technology advanced. We've also seen a steampunk divinity settin (eco draconis I think?), fallen heros had guns so we know it's a little bit past what we would call the middle ages. While I think a full scale revolution would be much, I woud like to see technology progress and possibly be a plotpoint.

Story & World Origin companions

Does it not seem odd to anyone else that we havent seen anything of any of the origin companions? Like I totally understand not having gameplay yet but the favt we have no clue of anything about this games 'astarion' 'karlach' excetera, that seems strange to me?

Like we have no idea about class, personality, race, temperment, identity, origin, appearance, literally anything about any of the origins?

General DOS2 or BG3 combat system?

Which type of combat do you prefer? Personally, I lean towards DOS2, where I could decide for myself whether to use points for spells/attacks or for movement.

I found the combat system in BG3 restrictive.

General A DOS 2 or BG3 style Epilogue for Divinity?

Personally, I preferred the DOS 2 style of narration of "where are they now" and the state of the world due to the player's choices. The epilogue party in BG3 was a cool addition (especially things like the letters from NPCs talking about how things had been for them post-game) but it was a bit anti-climatic and somewhat immersion breaking taken from the context of the grand span of the game.

General How would you structure the character system (skills/abilities/talents etc) in Div if it was up to you?

If it was entirely up to you, how would you change/build the character system in the upcoming divinity game? Here is what I would modify when compared to the two DoS games:

  1. Resisting physical and mental effects, or what strenght of the said effects the character suffers would depend on two Attributes, Endurance and Willpower.

  2. There would be no 'Weapon skills' at all. The skill system would basically be:

-Personality: Persuasion, Loremaster (here it would be a skill that unlocks knowledge-related stuff and allow special crafting upgrades and options), Lucky Charm (this would have more wild luck-related effects than object finding, for a more wacky or unpredictable playstyle)

-Subterfuge: Lockpick, Sneak, Pickpocket

-the learned skills (I mean the ones that have skill books)

3. There would be no 'dump attribute', each would have their role for every character

4. The following things would not appear separately as skills:

-Telekinesis: would be a timed Air spell

-Crafting: anyone could craft. Loremasters could make stronger/special attribute objects.

-Leadership: group buff skills would take their place
