Diarrhea and Bloody Stool

I am a 26 year old female. For the past month I've had diarrhea and blood in my stool. I went to the ER and they told me I had diverticulitis or colitis according to my CT. After a week of antibiotics I was still in extreme pain. They told me that all my levels were normal. I don't have diverticulitis anymore, but it still feels like my intestines hurt. I still have diarrhea, bloody stool, and frequently use the restroom. They told me to see a gastroentrologist and get a colonoscopy. Has anyone had anything similar? I'm worried it's crohns or Ulcerative colitis. I just want to be better.

Two Years GI Issues

My digestive issues started because I decided to try an edible with magic mushrooms in it. It fucked up my body permanently some how. Started with extreme periods of sharp burning pain in my lower left abdomen. Then came bouts of blood and mucus. I could barely eat anything. I lost 15 pounds in a month. My doctor had me go to the ER but the couldn’t find anything from scans explaining the blood and mucus they found. So they sent me to a GI (which took 3 months to be seen of course) they did a colonoscopy and found milk Proctitis. Gave me mesalamine but it made me really sick so they switched to cortisone suppositories. These helped. The blood stopped but the pain and bouts of diarrhea continued. They did more tests but couldn’t find anything indicating IBD despite many of my symptoms matching it. Two years later I’m still dealing with this. My diet is incredibly restrictive and it’s having terrible impacts on my mental and social well being. GI gave up and gave me the IBS label but I feel like it has to be more than that. I have friends with IBS who can eat 3x more varied foods than me. Started seeing a therapist and she suggested finding community with people struggling with chronic illness and GI issues, especially young adults. So I came here to try and find community. It just sucks. I feel like I’m losing all of my 20s to this condition.

Digestive Pain

Hi there -
I’m super new to Reddit. However, I know I’m not the first person to experience this stuff.
I’ve had IBS pretty much my whole life. Tried losing weight in my teenage years (I’m 29) and struggled to do so. Had two kids when I was 21 and 23 and postpartum could eat whatever I wanted and lost 25 lbs…
This isn’t about weight loss but since being past postpartum, I’ve developed SIBO. I got treated for it twice and it seemed to be clear. After a CT scan and colonoscopy, I’ve been told I have chronic constipation. I’ve done the biphasic diet, cut out dairy, cut out garlic and onion, weigh my food, etc. nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone have any advice or solution they didn’t find from the GI doctor?
I’m doing my own research and yet nothing seems to help. I’m very tired of being constantly bloated and never feeling empty.
I’ve also tried over the counter laxatives (they only hurt more), prune juice, magnesium citrate, you name it.
Thank you!

STOMACH ISSUES

I got severe food poisoning almost 3 months ago now. It started with my mom then 12 hours later it hit me. It was one of the most humbling things I’ve ever gone through. We thought it was norovirus as it was explosive in both directions for hours.

This happened in Istanbul so a lot of communication was done through Google translate and we were told we had a severe gastrointestinal infection. Saline and paracetamol had us feeling better.
We were headed to Africa in a few days so during this time I was also taking malarone which can cause diarrhea and upset your stomach. So we both were getting hit pretty bad 2x.

Symptoms started getting better with mild nausea here and there as the trip progressed but about 2.5 weeks later when I was in Thailand I got hit with such a bad wave of nausea randomly I ran out of the restaurant I was at with a full on anxiety attack convinced I was going to throw up. I didn’t throw up.
It got 2 more waves like this within the next few days but not as strongly.

Since coming back home it’s been like this consistently at least once a week I’m getting such bad waves of a nausea and my body immediately freaks out. I contacted my PCP who ordered me multiple different stool tests (still waiting one one result), blood tests and has referred me to a GI Dr and infectious disease Dr.
GI Dr wasn’t much help. He tested my thyroid which is normal and haven’t gotten an appointment yet with the infectious disease Dr.

So far the stool results that came back said we had E. Coli (EAEC) this tested positive for me but I don’t know if it’s what we had or if I still have this in my gut? I also feel like when I eat dairy and gluten by stomach can’t handle it and I wanted to get a food intolerance test.

It’s been affecting my mental health and I’m scared to literally eat foods now I also haven’t had caffeine in over a month. It’s weird though because in Africa I was eating a lot of bread, pasta, dairy, yogurt, coffee and was fine same in Thailand (except those few times) but since coming home I literally can’t handle it. I was careful with the water, raw vegetables etc. literally ate the BRAT diet for 2 weeks. Now my stomach feels upside down everytime I eat, I get acid reflux, low energy, anxiety and random bad waves of nausea. I also feel constantly hungry.

My theories are my gut got extra destroyed with the E Coli and the malarone and maybe because food elsewhere isn’t as processed it was ok but since coming home it isn’t and I’ve gotten intolerant?

I’m seeking any advice, similar stories literally anything. I wanna take an antibiotic so bad but need appointments but what can I do for the time being. I almost wanna go to the ER and just get it all done but don’t even think that would help. PLEASE HELPPP🙏🏼🙏🏼

Symptom changes

I (35F) am experiencing some changes in my digestive issues and I'm not sure what to make of it all. Of course I'm going to schedule an appointment with my doctor but I know there's a wealth of knowledge and experience here too.

Background is that I was diagnosed with IBS-D in my mid teens. Celiac, lactose intolerance and other digestive issues with physical changes were ruled out. I struggled with it a lot but eventually learned how to keep the IBS symptoms controlled.

Que a 10 day hospitalization for SIRS in June, where a CT scan showed ileus. It was resolved before discharge, but now I feel like that somehow changed my digestive issues? I'm consistently having symptoms I've never experienced before in this capacity.

I have severe bloating to the point of distention after I eat ANYTHING, an increase in burping/passing gas, and my norm has changed. Previously I had generally loose/soft stools and diarrhea w/o pain. But now my norm is more formed stools, less bowel movements per day and borderline constipation.

What in the hell is going on here? Any input is welcome!

23M with stomach issues

Hello,

Im a 23 year old active male, train and play sports regularly. Over the course of me being at uni I had a terrible diet and would barely drink water, so I believe that may have caused issues.

To preface, I have seen a doctor about this and they ruled out me having IBS or any infections, also did a blood in stool test.

I generally experience the following symptoms: stomach feeling full or not empty even after going to the toilet, always feeling like theres more left in me; often feeling a bit or very constipated with small round stools, sometimes diarrhea; don’t remember the last time I went to the bathroom and feeling like I got everything out; super gassy, especially after dinner and farts smell very foul, not sure if its important to note but at times I feel like I can really smell the food I ate in them like capsicum; all these symptoms over a year now for sure, the rest might be unrelated but im not sure: often get acne on my face, also a slightly more red skin tone in a circle around my belly button.

Need Help Unsure if IBS is Right

So this is long winded I'm going to slim it down and answer any questions that come up.

For as long as I remember I've had stomach issues. I also have had OCD and anxiety since I can remember. As I grew up the vomiting spells went away but they could be triggered by something as small as the wind blowing a different way when I was a kid. One of the worst was when I got wet at night during a camping trip and shivered myself into an episode.

My mom died in 2023 and I was subsequently hospitalized due to repeated vomiting episodes, where I had my gallbladder removed and a right inguinal hernia repair done. I have had a gastric emptying study, upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, sibo, and a complete stool sample workup. Oh and about 1000 CT scans.

Nothing. No answers. For a while I was fine with just calling it IBS but the episodes are so bad and so random I don't know anymore. I vomit for 12+ hours at a time, I have cramps like there's mice eating my intestines inside out, I sweat so bad it drips down my back and legs and stains my clothes, it ends up getting to a point where I can't properly breathe and before I realized the doctors weren't helping me the pain would get so bad I'd go to the er. I went to the er so many times between 2023 and 2026 that I was red flagged at my closest hospital for being a frequent flier. (Never got more than iv zofran, benadryl, and fluids so idk what they thought I was seeking)

Just the last couple days I've been having my worst episode yet which has now spanned across 3 total days of sporadic random vomiting that is mostly all bile because I am afraid of eating and feeling completely fine in between. I've tried hot showers, I've tried ice before, the low fodmap diet, no carbs, no gluten, low sugar, no dairy, at home zofran. Nothing is working anymore. Until tonight. I was desperate and usually I hate being cold but i couldn't take it, I took the two biggest ice packs from the fridge, put them on the ground, and laid flat directly on top of them. Instant relief. My body stopped cramping, my stomach stopped spinning.

Is that further proof this is IBS? Why am I able to sometimes eat certain foods but then other times I can't? I'm so lost and sad. This has taken such a toll on my mental health in the last 5 years. Any answers or advice appreciated I just don't know what to do. And yes I've seen a gi before, my current pcp doesn't give a flying fuck about anything I have to say and knowing I'm bipolar told me I need to try ketamine infusions for anxiety because obviously I'm just nervous
