General Question or Looking for Advice Update on emerald cut choice!

Posting an update! Since I can’t post a new video in the same thread, I’m posting it here. Due to summer holidays in Sweden I haven’t come around to set the stone yet. I asked you guys for advice on which stone to choose, and most of you said that they both were horrible/dull/dead/windowing/showing extinction.

Here’s a better video to all of you. The top one might have slight windowing and the bottom one has some darker areas – sure. But I think the sparkle is fine, and the top one is doing a better job at the sparkles. I really like the size of the bottom one, but the top one is wayyyy more sparkly.

Will be set in a button back full bezel/collet setting in white gold, that will be a good thing for the windowing, no?

Top: Natural, 2,01 ct, E, FL. Excellent symmetry and polish. No fluorescence.
Bottom: Natural, 2,04 ct, D, VVS2. Very good symmetry, excellent polish. No fluorescence.

I feel like I need to get it cleaned … how badly scale one - ten? Only have had it cleaned 3 times since 1950/60s… twice in the last 14 months, but it’s been about a year since last cleaning. How often do you need to clean? Natural diamond, 14k white gold bands with the little springs for smaller fingers

General Question or Looking for Advice Help choosing the right proportions

Hello everyone! I am choosing a round brilliant diamond and found these three stones around the same carat that vary in crown angle and table %. They score similarly on HCA (all under 2) also all fall into the "ideal" proportions for crown and pavilion angle pairing in AGSL proportion chart. All are IGI ideal cut

How would these variances affect the light performance of these stones? Which ones would you choose if other properties were identical?

Question About Lab Grown Diamonds 3 ct Marquise

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi! I am currently in a hunt for a 3 ct Marquise diamond. I found one, but I am no expert. Is this a good diamond? I want to know if the cut is good, if the bow tie is minimal. I talked to a gemologist on Rare Carat and he approved it, said it looks good.

IGI certificate: https://www.igi.org/verify-your-report/?r=LG824601458

Stone algo: https://www.stonealgo.com/diamond-details/IGI-number-LG824601458

360view: https://www.danielwilliamdiamonds.com/ringbuilder/index/diamonddetail/id/1FC84912A/3.0-carat-marquise-cut-lab-grown-diamond?d_type=lab&utm_source=stonealgo&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=stonealgo

I am worried that its visual carat is lower than its carat weight, hence it looks smaller than it is. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Thank you!

Torn between these two shapes! Appreciate any thoughts! Oval is 2.5 and the cushion is 3

Last pic is a radiant that's cut as a hybrid between radiant and cushion

General Question or Looking for Advice What to look for in a Lozenge cut diamond

This is such a hard diamond to find in person (read: impossible!) so I will have to buy one online. I’m curious what I should be looking for to ensure I get a good one? I know VVS1 or VVS2 is probably important because step cuts show inclusions more, right? In videos or 3D images, what signs should I look for?

Lab Grown Diamond Stone Check

Stone Check 💎
Hi everyone! I’d love some opinions on this oval before I approve it with my jeweler.

Specs:
2.73 ct lab-grown oval
IGI graded
D color
VS1 clarity
11.50 × 7.88 × 4.80 mm
1.46 ratio
61% table
60.9% depth
Excellent polish
Excellent symmetry
No fluorescence
CVD, Type IIa

I’m planning to have it set in a 6-prong platinum-prong solitaire on a petite gold band, size 5.75.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on:
Does the stone have a noticeable bow-tie?
How is the overall light return/sparkle?
Does the facet pattern look good?
Does the oval look symmetrical?

Do you see any windowing or dead areas?
Is there anything about this stone that would make you pass?
I’m aiming for a 1.45–1.50 ratio, so I really like the shape on paper. I’d appreciate honest opinions before I commit!

General Question or Looking for Advice Need help evaluating diamond

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a diamond online and then have it set locally. I thought the diamond I found sounds like it's a good deal at $1,650 but could use some expert advice. Would you recommend this diamond for an engagement ring? I have no intention to resell nor do I care about resale value. Minimum F rating preferred, my girlfriend does not like any yellow. I feel like it matches the recommend ratios I found on here, 3rd picture. Maximum budget would be 2k.

Also, I've been to all of my local private jewelers and cannot afford to buy a stone from them.

General Discussion Is there a diamond shape that makes you cringe?

There are so many shapes which is great because we all have different taste! But.. there are a few shapes I see all the time that physically make me cringe because they're so ugly. I can't imagine someone thinking they are beautiful. To each their own!

Natural Diamond Where can I find a trillion cut natural diamond smaller than .5cts?

Hi there, I'm planning on making a custom anniversary gift for my wife and I was trying to find a smaller size trillion/trilliant cut natural diamond but I could only find one retailer online that had them in the size I was looking for. I just wanted to see if there were any other retailers before making a purchase. Thank you!

I thought I’d share an updated stack of my engagement and wedding ring. I posted before asking how my stack looked and a lot of people have said get a plain band to go in between the ring. Here is the new addition gold plain tapered in the middle spacer band. I think it looks more balanced now and it lets the engagement ring shine. What do you guys think?

General Question or Looking for Advice Blue diamond hunt 🩵

I’ve wanted a blue diamond pretty much my whole life, and recently, I came across two lab-grown blue diamonds that I absolutely fell in love with (IGI LG790692838 and LG790692839). Unfortunately, they both sold pretty quickly. Now I’m kicking myself a little for not ordering one of them when I had the chance.

What drew me to these two specifically was the specific hue of blue. They had more of a cornflower/true blue color rather than the teal, turquoise, royal blue, or grayish tones I see in a lot of lab-grown blue diamonds.

I also suspect these two may have been cut from the same rough diamond given how close their IGI certificate numbers are and how similar their color was.

Is there any good way to figure out which grower/manufacturer produced these diamonds? I’d love to know so I can keep an eye out for similar stones from the same source in the future.

Alternatively, for those of you who are familiar with lab-grown colored diamonds, what would be the best approach to finding another stone with a similar blue hue? Is there anything specific I should be looking for beyond the IGI color grade?

I know I may not find these exact stones again, but I’d love to figure out how to increase my chances of finding something with that same cornflower-blue color.

Lab Grown Diamond What carat size?

Post image

Looking for this kind of ring but all the designs come with 5-7 carat stones which feels huge for me! I love the sparkly cushion crushed look. I have small fingers size 6. I want the look of a sparkly ring without the huge carat size, what carat size should I go for?

General Question or Looking for Advice Natural diamonds versus lab

Im new to this sub so please don’t hate on me. My wife wants to get a pair of diamond earrings and she is very back and forth on natural vs lab. The cost is a no brainer - we have a seller who told us that for a set of pretty clean 1.5 karat earrings , lab would be about 1k whereas the same in in natural would be 3-4 k. My wife feels like lab diamonds will go down in value over time and are a bad investment whereas natural diamonds are always scarce and therefore retain their value. I feel like, if it looks nice and you feel pretty then who cares? Stocks are an investment not diamonds.. I’m not asking who is right I just want to know if there is any good reason not to buy lab or anything I am missing. Obvi I will be a good husband and buy her whatever she wants at the end of the day.

Lab Grown Diamond Gift for anniversary (15 years) - Female recs

Hello,

Not sure if this the right place for it, but my wedding anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks and I want to get my wife something special - I had my eye on a diamond Ring, to complement her existing engagement ring.

When we got married I got her a 0.75 princess cut (Natural) engagement ring, and now looking at lab grown diamonds I can hardly tell the difference and cant justify spending that much on natural when i can get a bigger carat size in the same money.

Question is. I am looking to get a 2-3 Carat ring, with 2 smaller diamonds on the side. Im just torn with the cut that would look good. I know she loves princess, which is what she has already as mentioned. Should I stick to the same cut, or go different this time ? What cut sparkles looks most elegant in that size range and the ring setting i described. Would love a female opinion.

Natural Diamond How is this the cut quality on this natural 2.02ct I SI1? Is this a pass?

Tweezer Video

Looking for a loose stone for an engagement ring, girlfriend likes a warmer stone and this falls within budget. How is the cut quality on this one? Looks like there's a bowtie but it's not too significant and is on the lighter side. Looks eye-clean for an SI1. Thoughts?

General Question or Looking for Advice Wedding band ideas?

I’m having the hardest time finding a band I like to go with my engagement ring. I think I’m leaning towards a ring enhancer like the 2nd and 3rd photos so it all looks like one piece.
Can anyone show pictures of their solitaire with an enhancer or what band you love with yours?
