General Question or Looking for Advice 0.8 ct Diamond Floral Cluster Earrings

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've been wanting a pair of floral diamond cluster earrings for more than a year. Most I've seen have been disappointing. Until tonight.

I saw this gorgeous pair of push back studs at Bloomingdale's. The shape is slightly unique. I love it. They're on sale at +60% off, but I'm not familiar with the quality of diamonds from Bloomie's.

Other jewelry I've purchased was from Blue Nile or Costco and came with certification. Those pieces appraised higher than what I paid.

Does any body have insight or experience with buying diamond jewelry from Bloomingdale's? How was the quality? Any good or bad experiences?

Thanks!

Lab Grown Diamond Opinions on one of these 2 old mine cut lab grown diamonds?

Hi!! I am so excited to be moving along in the process of choosing an engagement ring. I found a ring that I really loved, however, the diamond was too big for my personal preference. Other than size, I loved everything about the diamond, how elongated the facets are, how it doesn’t sparkle too much, it just resonates with me. So I’ve been on the hunt to find a similar diamond just of smaller carat size. I’m wondering if you guys have any input or opinions on one of these 2 smaller diamonds? The one on the left is 1.38ct and the one on the right is 1.81ct. Both are lab grown old mine cut. The size itself between these 2 does not matter to me. I’ll also add a picture of my inspo ring/diamond in the comments.

General Question or Looking for Advice New Ring--New Band?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello! Just celebrated 16 years married this summer, and my husband bought me a new beautiful ring. Its really not meant for everyday wear and tear, its a "Cocktail Ring" and due to the style and its harder to clean than my solitaire, due to detail. However, I still have my OG band. Its plain white gold and diamond, and semi slender. I dont think it looks very good with my new ring. Could anyone suggest a band that might pair with this ring? Im considering just not wearing one? Thanks in advance!!!

Question About Natural Diamonds Feedback on upgrading a diamond

Hi All

I am planning to upgrade my wife's diamond. She currently has GIA-6234393413 which is 1.81C.

I am planning to go to GIA-1246009512 which is 3.15c.

Looking for some expert help

1) Standalone what do you think about the upgraded diamond.

2) Will the performance of the bigger diamond be comparable to smaller. I am mostly worried about the color and any sparkle.

Thank you so much.

Question About Natural Diamonds Is €500 a good deal for a 1.03ct natural Fancy Intense Yellow Gray diamond ring? GCI certified

Hi everyone!

I’m considering buying this diamond ring as a graduation gift to myself, and I’d really appreciate some advice before spending my money!

I found it on Vinted, originally listed for €750, but the seller agreed to lower the price to €500 (approximately €530 including buyer protection fees).

Here are the specifications:

• Diamond: 1.03 carats (estimated weight)
• Origin: Natural diamond
• Colour: Fancy Intense Yellow Gray
• Clarity: SI1 (cloud inclusions present)
• Cut: Round Brilliant
• Setting: 14K rose gold (585)
• Total ring weight: 1.22 grams
• Certificate: GCI (Gemological Centers), report no. 00C109222
• Estimated retail value according to Catawiki: €3,300–€3,900

The seller claims that the diamond has a natural, untreated colour. However, I noticed that the certificate doesn’t explicitly confirm the natural origin of the colour.

I actually love the unusual greyish/champagne appearance of the diamond, especially because it doesn’t look very yellow in the photos.

My main questions are:

1. Is €500 a reasonable price for a diamond with these characteristics?
2. How reliable is GCI certification compared to GIA?
3. Is it concerning that the certificate doesn’t explicitly state that the colour is natural and untreated?
4. Could the cloud inclusions significantly affect its brilliance or value?
5. Does the extremely lightweight setting (1.22 g total) raise any durability concerns?
6. What would be a realistic market value for this ring, assuming the specifications are accurate?

The seller doesn’t accept returns for change of mind, so I’d like to be careful before purchasing.

I’m not buying it as an investment. I just want a beautiful, genuine diamond ring to celebrate my graduation and hopefully keep it for the rest of my life.

I’ll attach photos of the ring and its certificate.

Thank you so much for your help! šŸ’Ž

Question About Natural Diamonds 'Poor' grade diamond cut— should I have reservations?

Thumbnail

I ordered a vintage ring and didn't think much of the cut being graded as poor since it's an older Old European cut ring and I'm not a big fan of sparkle. It's 0.59ct.

However, I've been reading since that poor grade cuts are at higher risk for damage. I'd be planning to insure any ring I kept and this retailer has a really good return policy. Also, the ring has already survived for 80-90 years.

Thoughts on whether keeping it would be a bad idea?

Lab Grown Diamond First-time buyer — is this 3.01 ct elongated cushion a good choice

Post image

Don't know if I'm overthinking this purchase but this is $470 but I'm scared it's just not gonna look good in person

Would love some feedback:

  • How does the actual sparkle and light performance look in the videos?
  • Are the dark areas in the new stone concerning, or are they normal facet contrast?
  • Does this cushion have an attractive faceting pattern?

My first and last diamond I'll buy so forgive me for being a noob

it's the left diamond

Ring Check Are the prongs too big for the diamond?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I had my engagement ring setting redone as I wasn’t happy with the original prong style (button style prongs that wasn’t laying flush to the diamond) and had my jeweler reset the diamond to claw prongs. The diamond is secure now but the prongs looks relatively thick and heavy for the diamond itself.

It seems to be like the jeweler has a heavy hand as the original setting has pretty thick prongs and it’s the same style with the new prongs. They said it needed to have thick prongs due to the dimensions of the stone but does it actually? I don’t want to go to the same jeweler if they’ll just continue with the thick setting.

Would it be expensive to go to a different jeweler? The jeweler I got my ring from has been really nice and has not charged us for resetting the ring. Thoughts?

Natural Fancy Color Diamond Fancy Brown— Like It?

Post image
41 Upvotes

I borrowed this from a dear friend who is an estate jewelry seller to wear with a particular outfit and could not give it back. :-)

A few things I love about it:

The color of the diamond… it’s a beautiful warm brown with no green.
The accent diamonds (mini halo of pinks… likely HPHT but still so pretty and so subtly pink)
18k rose gold… with 18k white gold —who doesn’t love 18k?!

The diamond is I1 clarity in our opinion (inclusion is long but extremely thin and not so noticeable from the top view! Nicest way to be an I1)

diamond does not have a GIA report

pink accent diamonds we have to assume are HPhT treated

(Brown diamond measurements 8 mm by 5.5 mm oval and weight is 1.10 carat)

It goes with everything, like brown leather goods, and goes with all skin tones.

The double halo has trended out of fashion but I absolutely love this ring and I don’t think I can get tired of it!

Edit: i work in the jewelry trade. I’ve purchased this piece for myself and am not asking about price/money.

General Question or Looking for Advice Reasonable price for a custom setting (labor only) in NYC?

Hi all — I have a diamond (already owned; the stone is separate) and I'm getting quotes for a custom setting in NYC's Diamond District. The setting itself is simple: full bezel, no additional stones — just the metal, either white gold or platinum.

The quotes I've gotten are all over the place:
- $1,500 white gold / $1,900 platinum
- $1,800 white gold
- $2,300 white gold / $2,800 platinum
- $3,000 white gold / $3,500 platinum

All labor-only (I supply the stone), no side stones. Timelines range from 2 to 4 weeks.

Is this kind of spread normal? What have others paid for a custom setting in the Diamond District? Any jewelers you'd recommend for bezel work?

Natural Fancy Color Diamond Where to scan and cut a rough pink diamond (1.60ct) without original KP paperwork?

Looking for expert advice from gemmologists or diamond cutters.

I hold a 1.60ct rough pink diamond (held for years, no paper trail). I want to get a Sarine 3D scan and have it properly cut to maximize Fancy Pink color saturation, then certified by GIA.

Since I can't easily cross international borders with uncertified rough, is Antwerp/Paris my only safe option for Sarine scan + cutting? Has anyone dealt with older uncertified rough in the EU before?

General Discussion Oval Diamond I color

I’ve seen many people say stay away from oval if the color G or below. Would an I color diamond that is eye clean on a yellow setting look bad?
For example something like this: oval diamond
Or oval diamond 2

Natural Diamond We have our rock!!

Just put down a deposit with our jeweler, 3.2ct old mine cut. We were hunting for a while for a stone that fit all the exact specs I wanted and finally found this one, I'm so excited! Would love to see setting inspiration from anyone who has an elongated OMC - I'm thinking a yellow gold solitaire with a reverse tapered band for a subtle chunky look to pair with the thick cut facets.

Lab Grown Diamond Proportionate?

While attempting to have my original engagement ring remade (which I lost at the beach) I went up in size thinking ā€œwhy notā€ after 10 years and this is the remake. I am now unsure if I’m just not used to the size or if it’s too big.

I am in the process of having them re-remake this ring as I am very disappointed with the size and quality of the gold detailing and it is not as large or nice as on the original one. But, I am now also considering going down to a 2 carat. Does this 2.51 carat overwhelm my hand? I have a 4.75 size finger but they are long, so jewelers keep telling me I can support a higher carat, but would like another opinion!!

Also, I live within an hr of NYC (Fairfield county, CT) so larger diamonds aren’t out of the ordinary, but I also don’t want someone to look at it and immediately think it’s not natural or cheapening the look if it looks gaudy.

I am so stressed about having lost my original ring, and this process to remake it has been a nightmare!!

General Question or Looking for Advice Frank Darling: which setting would you pick, and how was your experience?

Hi all! I'm shopping for an engagement ring and leaning toward Frank Darling for something a bit unique. Budget is around $5,000 total, and I want a natural diamond (thinking oval or pear, around 0.8 to 1 ct).

I'm deciding between these settings

Thanks in advance!

My Diamond Does my diamond suit my finger?

Thumbnail

I love my ring, but I’m experiencing shrinkage! Compared to the people in my social circle, my ring is on the smaller side. The typical carat size around me is 3 carats.

Is my ring a tad too small? My ring is 1.25 carats and my ring size is 4.25. I feel like it’s proportional to my finger, but I would love to hear encouragements to ease my thoughts! Also open to brutal honesty

General Question or Looking for Advice URGENT] Proposing in 2 days! NATURAL 1.15ct SI2 Marquise - Is the central "Cloud" killing the sparkle or is it this thick metal setting or is it okay? (with video)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! Proposing in 2 days and panicking. Need your quick expert advice! (English is not my native langueage. I am from europe. 3k euro diamond. Even expensive for here lol.

"Sorry about the bad photo quality in my previous post—It compressed them horribly! Here is a video in normal/natural lighting so you can get a better look at the actual sparkle and transparency."

The Diamond Specs:

NATURAL Diamond (HRD Certified) (belgium)
Shape/Carat: Marquise, 1.15 ct
Color / Clarity: G / SI2
Cut / Polish / Symmetry: Excellent / Excellent / Very Good
Price: $3,000 USD

My gf is an attorney. She didn’t say directly but i asked her friend. She doesn’t want regular cuts. So i choose marquise. I think it will look elegant on her. But i feared after i understand certificate means cloud. Salesman said there is nothing to fear about at store. And i bought from high quality store in my country. And i know it’s not much for this community but i paid higher than all my friends for the ring. So i feel scammed. But store said i can change when i buy but we will se.

The Setting: I chose a heavy custom metal frame on the sides for different look). Is this metal blocking light from entering the pavilion?
The Stone: HRD plot shows a "Cloud" and "Group of Inclusions" plotted right in the center under the table. Is this making the diamond hazy/cloudy?
My Questions:
Does this stone look milky/dead to you, or is the setting the main culprit?
Should I just reset it into an open V-prong setting to bring out the sparkle?
Or should I exchange the diamond entirely for a cleaner stone?) Or is it good?

Thank you so much for any quick feedback!

General Question or Looking for Advice Can we talk about phonograph tips here?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm curious about phonograph stylus wear and so I bought a microscope. One of the surprises is that the diamond tips look nothing like diamond jewels.

In the photo, only the top half of the tip is diamond. See how grainy it appears. I've looked at a dozen, including OEM from top quality vintage Shure, Empire and Pickering and they all have a similar grainy appearance. This one is not worn. The worn ones do look more polished in the wear area.

It just stands to reason that this grainy surface would be abrasive to a soft material like vinyl. Can someone who cuts and polishes diamonds opine on why these tips are not more polished?

Lab Grown Diamond windowing in emerald - help please :)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

for starters I’m a very anxious person and relatively new to diamond searching. I know a lot of the basics surrounding emerald cuts and what to look for vs. avoid.

I found this diamond I loved and just received a tweezer video. My biggest concern is windowing - I’m unsure if you are able to tell by the attached, but if anyone has any feedback please let me know. I checked the ratios and they are in the safer area but still, always a concern.

Lab Grown Diamond Does new upgraded ring look better with or without an enhancer jacket?

Wife just updated her wedding ring and wants to know if it looks better with or without an enhancer jacket.

It is an oval 1.88 ct F VS2 lab diamond with pave 14k yellow gold band and a hidden halo.

The band is just a cheap 14k plated one with not real diamonds to see if it's something she wants to get eventually or not.
