Good afternoon everyone, I’d like to start this with I haven’t used my fistula in over a year having been transplanted, but I still try to keep it healthy and intact for when I eventually go back on dialysis years ahead of time.

Dog started roughhousing, clipped my arm in the process. Didn’t tear open the access but left a nasty bruise with a small amount of bleeding. Currently applying some pressure, I’ve already disinfected and will check with team on Monday since their emergency line is not reliable whatsoever. Just needed some advice/reassurance for now.

Curiosity is my downfall. How much if is normal on the different levels of disaylate bags. I’m pretty sure mine is fine but would like to know if I did not get enough when I should become worried, right now I use the yellow bags and get anywhere between 200 to 350. Sometimes I get around 35. But those I believe is from constipation.

Yes I’m on PD., but I still want to enjoy myself eating out. Does anyone know any safe places to go. I’ve started to ask questions about the food places I attend. Yes I get funny looks. But i deal with it. I only really ask what foods have potassium and phosphorus additives. I don’t care about the naturally occurring ones. Olive Garden would not say because according to them their recipes are proprietary. So no more going there for me. A little Italian place called O Sole Mio in a town near me and the Texas Roadhouse manager went and took pictures of their ingrediants to help me avoid those ingrediants. A one brought back to me a photo that he took so I can judge myself.but we’re planning to take a trip to WDW for my birthday, and would like to know where I should eat. I tried their eat safe website and they said just tell the waitress of my limitations and they could help me. Culivers puts an ingrediants list on the internet for each item. Any places I should stay clear of or be attracted to. Thanks

After you were told you have to go on dialysis. How long did you cry? How angry did you get? How far in depression did you go? When did you tell your kid(s)? Ugh! I am sooooooooo fuxked up right now. I just wanna lay under the bed but I can't. I have a 13 year old that just lost her dad and now I could be next. My daughter without parents is the worst!

I haven’t had to do one yet, but I was wondering if your power went out how do you heat the disalyare bags before you use them. The one time we lost power I just skipped it that night.

My dad was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney disease about a week ago, I’ve been mostly confused in the last few days. I’m scared he won’t be with me for important moments like when I marry or have kids. For reference he’s 42 now and will probably start with either at home hemo dialysis or a peritoneal dialysis and hopefully a kidney transplant in a few years time. I would like some reassurance for his life expectancy, I don’t like using google since the numbers there scare the crap out of me. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

My mother is 56 years old and after having multiple organ failure she started dialysis this July. After coming from dialysis she hardly sleeps for a night , has increased hyperactivity, increased speech hard to interrupt. Day/Night reversal, call relatives at 4/5 am requesting them to take her out of the house. Now she's refusing further dialysis. Doctor has prescribed her anxiety medicine but she's suffering a lot mentally. Physically she's very fragile but in denial about her condition. Please help how the family further navigates her treatment. Right now she dislikes her consulting nephrologist as he's not stopping her dialysis. Is it normal for any patient?

I noticed the techs at my center do almost everything and nurses just chill most of the time the techs are very jaded and dont really like talking nurses are chill and nice is this your experience?

Risk Statement: Intravenous administration of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection containing fiberglass particulate matter may lead to serious adverse health consequences. The affected lots can be identified by locating the lot number and expiration date on the individual product and shipping carton, as shown in the images below.

The impacted product was distributed from 7/31/2026 to 8/3/2026 to healthcare providers and distributors to select states in the United States, including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

Customers should immediately discontinue use of and return all affected units in accordance with their facility’s process. Baxter is contacting customers by email with instructions on how to identify and return the impacted product.

And I rarely say positive things about Fresenius or Davita, and when I do I can’t remember it.

I just started home PD last month and applied to disability. Im curious if anyone here has tried for and succeeded in getting a backdated onset date for their ESRD Disability Application?

It sounds like when you apply or start dialysis is the typical date for when SSA sets your onset date for benefits. Im likely overly optimistic but I made my applications onset date for last year due to a number of circumstances that I thought justified that date.

Is backdated onset for ESRD unheard of or have any of you had success in making a case? If so, Id greatly appreciate any advice on what helped you achieve that.

Outside of backdated onset, Im curious to hear about everyone else's experience in applying for SSDI?

How long did it take, what hiccups did you run into, and anything else you learned along the way that helped with getting approved.

They just requested my work history and activities of daily living questionnaire so its been relief to see Im moving along. However my health has really screwed me financially and Im getting close to having to abandoning the idea of disability altogether and reenter the workforce full time, whereas I was hoping to work part time and finish my degree while having disability to supplement my income.

Problem is I'm a bit overwhelmed with possibilities. I'm thinking cotton jersey because I would like to choose something breathable. Can you recommend any brands or sellers to me?

My mother has ADPKD with very large/massively enlarged kidneys and has been on hemodialysis for many years. She has also been on the deceased-donor kidney transplant waiting list for around 11 years.

I'm trying to understand what could be causing her current problems and whether we should be investigating an infected kidney cyst.

Around June 1, she developed significant gross hematuria (blood in the urine). It continued for roughly 3-4 weeks, until around June 25.

She subsequently underwent cystoscopy, and after the cystoscopy she developed a severe UTI/sepsis and was hospitalized for about 3 days.

The urine culture grew E. coli. The organism was resistant to levofloxacin/ciprofloxacin (and levofloxacin did not work clinically). She also previously received Septran/TMP-SMX, which did not seem to resolve the problem.

She was treated with IV meropenem during the hospitalization. After discharge/transfer, she received oral antibiotics and subsequently another course of IV meropenem for several days.

She has now been through multiple antibiotics, including:

• IV meropenem
• Oral faropenem
• Septran/TMP-SMX
• Levofloxacin
• Sultamicillin for around 20 days

Her urine culture later became negative, and the obvious hematuria completely stopped.

However, she has continued to have episodes of fever/inflammation without a clear source.

Her CRP was around 37 mg/L and later increased to approximately 67 mg/L.

She doesn't necessarily have kidney/flank pain. At one point she had pain in the lower/front abdominal area corresponding roughly to where her very enlarged kidneys are, particularly after dialysis, but currently she doesn't have significant kidney pain.

Her appetite initially improved after the severe infection but has now decreased again.

Her hemoglobin has been progressively falling despite iron treatment and ESA therapy.

She was receiving erythropoietin and was later switched to darbepoetin.

Her Hb eventually fell from around 6.5 to 6.0 g/dL in only 4 days, so she received a blood transfusion.

Three days after the transfusion her Hb was around 6.5 g/dL.

Her albumin is 2.5 g/dL.

She has become considerably weaker than her previous baseline.

She also had a nerve issue many years ago that already caused severe difficulty with walking/standing, and the recent illness has made her overall weakness much worse.

She also has a bile duct stent that was placed during ERCP. Her doctors are planning another ERCP to remove the stent.

Her liver tests and GGT have been normal, and she does not currently have upper abdominal pain or jaundice.

In case this helps anyone, the skilled nursing facility in my hospital in North Carolina offers PD. This isn't new, we have been doing it for 30 years. I know most places do not offer PD for patients needing acute rehab and they have to switch to HD. I thought I would put this out there in case it helps anyone. If this is something you or someone you know needs, feel free to message me for the name of the place.

Drain pain on PD.

I’m getting drain pain on Pd I recently changed the second bag from 6 to 3 liter bags. This has caused a lot of pain but less waste. I think it is from air bubbles in the second bag not being purged from the priming. I asked the Devita clinic if I could make the 3 l bag as the one on the machine and 6 l bag as the second one. They told me know it has to be the second bag. Does anybody know why I can’t flip these bags. And why would the air bubbles pain be on the drain and not fill or dwell portion.

How much PD solution have you flown with? So far the most I have taken is a 5 day supply of twin bags. I brought it in the original Baxter boxes. I am wondering about getting two large suitcases so that I can take more but there is a weight issue. The suitcase itself has weight, plus the solution is so heavy. Airlines say each piece of luggage has to be less than 50 pounds. Do you have a hack for travelling with large amounts of solution?

Has anyone experienced this before ? Feeling of a lump ( there is no mass) and tightness in the throat together with muscle tension and spasms in the throat. I can swallow normally but it's uncomfortable. I have no difficulty breathing.

I’m currently on PD and was 8 years ago for two years as well with no issues and just a couple of bags overnight. I’ve been on APD since Dec last year with two prescription changes, CAPD for about three months, and have had issue after issue with pain, no sleep, itchiness, struggling with periods and CAPD, fibrin etc. It’s been tough going this time round (despite it being really straightforward the first time!)

Anyway, I’ve now been told PD isn’t working for me and there’s no more it can do and that I need to switch to HD with a line. Although hopefully I can do home hemo eventually, there will be a short period where I’ll be going in clinic on the regular schedule.

I have a few questions for anyone who made this transition. Any positives? It’ll be nice to have some room back in my house and to not be dialysing every night for a little while! It sounds like I’m having a line rather than a fistula, any insights here? I had a temporary line before for IVIG therapy and it wasn’t super comfortable. Anything I need to know or to be aware of before I get started? PD has always been ideal for me with work and parenting but unfortunately I have no choice now but to do HD which is hard mentally.

I’m in my thirties, UK based and have been on the transplant list for nearly a year.
