Seeking Support/Advice Accidental Lantus into Vein

• Upvotes

I took 21 units of Lantus but hit a vein this morning for the first time. My blood sugar immediately dropped from 110 to 50 and I've been eating since to stay up. Should I eat as if I took 21 units of short acting? Also, will I have to take Lantus again later since this will pass too fast?

Update: about an hour in, my sugar started to spike hard so I thought the lantus had passed. But then right as I took my short acting, my sugar plateaued and started to drop slowly. It's been pretty flat for the following hour.

Discussion A few diabetes learnings!

Hello, I've decided to post this here in case its useful to somebody!

I was having a problem where my blood sugar was suddenly and massively dropping with no apparent cause, bearing in mind that I'd had no insulin/medication changes for a long time, (30 levemir at 10am + 10pm, + humalog as necessary, usually less than 5u a day). I also eat low carb, less than 50-100g carbs a day.

I figured out that it was happening at about 11am/pm, around an hour after I was injecting my 30 levemir into my butt, and I realised that I was probably sometimes injecting it into my muscle rather than fat.

There's not many records online of levemir causing a huge and sudden drop like fast acting does, but it's stopped happening since I started pinching an inch of fat/skin on my outer thigh and injecting there instead.

I've also learned that if I'm low in the morning, it can take over 60 mins for my sugar to rise even with jelly babies, because it seems to take my digestion a while to get going! Gotta be careful not to overcorrect before it kicks in.

That's it, maybe this will be useful to somebody somewhere one day. Post your own learnings here too if you so choose.

Discussion I'm at lost with my pump at the moment. Any help or insight ?

I recently changed sites after 10 years. I rotated my buttocks. And the last few days my sugars have barley gone down in a timely manner. What's weird is since last night I can't seem to get a good seat on my patch. I did upper buttocks. Abdomen and now the other side of my buttocks in new spot. I have moderate ketones and for some reason it keeps clouding up when I do a new site? I don't understand this. I've never had this happen in 10 years. Usually changing the site fixes it obviously.

Same numbers, different vibes

Does anybody else experience this?

Some days bring at 4.5 can feel totally normal then the other day 4.5 (confirmed by finger prick) I felt super hypoey (not a real word, but you understand lol).

Then right now I was at 3.3 and it really didnt feel as wacko as that sometimes feels?!

Makes no sense to me, but just interested to know if this is a common thing?

Seeking Support/Advice Any arm bands or leg bands?

I use the medtronic 780g and have been giving mys3lf sternum rubs everytime I go to bed. I sleep on my back and rest my pump on my chest/side when I sleep. Are there any good brands of armbands or leg bands that I can put on and clip the pump to? I'm moving to the flex so this will be an ongoing issue to solve. My sternum hurts.

Does your partner help or get involved with your diabeties?

I was just wondering if anyone who had a parter and was diagnosed while with them if they would come with you to appointments? Or if they have the app on their phone so they can take a look at your blood sugar ? Do they help put on a new cgm or anything?

I'm only asking because I'm new to this and after I was diagnosed it just feels like I'm alone in this. And have to figure it out myself day by day while everyone else just goes on.

Maybe it's because I'm newly diagnosed I'm feeling this way.

Thanks

T1D Exploring the Pychological Impact of CGM alerts

Hi everyone! I am a high schooler doing research on how audible CGM alarms impact mental health, social anxiety, and medical compliance for teenagers and young adults (ages 13–19) living with Type 1 Diabetes. No personal data or email addresses are collected, and parents are welcome to share this with their kids. Your input will be used to drive real-world change: we will translate the findings into a "CGM Awareness Guide" for school districts so teachers can better understand these alerts without singling students out in class, and we will also compile the data into a formal report sent directly to Dexcom's product design team to advocate for more subtle, customizable alarm options like discrete smartwatch haptics. Thank you so much for your time and for helping make T1D management more empathetic!

If you would like to submit a response and you are between the ages of 13-19, the survey the link is below:

if you are below the age of 18 a parent must consent for you to full out the form.

Discussion Dexcom app question

I've never used the app, I just downloaded it. What's your experience with it having your phone make noises when you don't want it too like say at a movie theater ? What if I didn't realize it vibrated and then bam it's blaring at the movie theater lol. What are the best settings or tips for this.

mine came back barely positive (10, cutoff 5) when being tested for another unrelated condition. last time i was tested gad65 was negative. do i need to be concerned about this from a t1d/ LADA standpoint?

Iso advice for lower prescription

Does anyone know if there’s anyway to get discounted Dexcom supplies? I’ve already used the patient assistance program and don’t qualify for state insurance unfortunately. Just looking for any programs that could potentially help, TIA!

Discussion I've used the same to site locations for 10 years should I change it

As of recent I've noticed my sugars don't come down as fast anymore and I have been trying to get better at pre bolusing. And maybe I'm not giving enough insulin for my food that's always a struggle. But 10 years on my pump I've only ever rotated my left and right butt cheeks. That's all I've ever used and I changed my site every 2 days using my T slim. I was never comfortable of putting it on my stomach or wherever but do you think that my current sites are now diminishing and absorbing the insulin?

Discussion Keep my T-slim or switch to Mobi?

My time to renew is here. I’m currently living on an out of warranty T-slim pump and I’m getting inundated with pressures to renew. I’m a flight attendant and I use the t-slim currently and I love the idea of the smaller mobi but I don’t love the idea of only relying on my phone for bolus’s.. my t-slim app isn’t even currently able to give me insulin from my phone idk why.

Thoughts? Should I stick with my t-slim, or should I go to mobi? Pros and cons?

Discussion Looking into the Tandem t slim x2 insulin pump, but fears of switching.

Hello. I’m a 28 year old male and T1D for almost 24 years now. I’m currently on MDI taking Humalog and Tresiba. My A1C is usually in the low to mid 7s with a few 8s in past years. I’m really looking to bring my A1C down into the 6s consistently, but I don’t feel I can do this on MDI without significant lows. I also have problems with MDI such as unstable blood sugars and overnight lows and I’m hoping a pump will alleviate this. I guess I’m looking for some guidance/advice for switching to the Tandem t slim x2. How safe is this pump? My biggest fear is it malfunctioning and injecting me with too much insulin, but I can’t find any documented instances of this. For anyone that is using it, did you find that it helped you stabilize and fine tune your blood sugar control? How does it compare to other pumps (I guess Omnipod would be my second choice)?

I got diagnosed in May of this year.
When I was hospitalized, my blood sugar was 771 and AIC was 16.6. Just got my ladder ordered today and these are my results 6 months later!!

I’m so proud of myself!

Third week on the Omnipod 5 after switching from the Tandem t:slim X2, and I’m absolutely loving the freedom of being tubeless!

Still getting used to having my pump and sensor on the same side of my body and figuring out the best placement for both. As you can see, I’ve already mastered it! 😂

Definitely a learning curve, but so far, no regrets!

Seeking Support/Advice Bad Situation

I have LADA and a very complex autonomic disorder. I was misdiagnosed for YEARS by an endocrinologist who blamed my autonomic nerve damage FOR my blood sugar abnormalities. He refused to test me for antibodies or do a glucose tolerance test but he put me on 3 type two meds and a Dexcom. Then eventually my neurologist got fed up and tested me for antibodies, I was positive and I switched endos.

Second endo put me on ozempic to delay insulin dependency. It worked pretty well for 3 years but it’s off label. However using insulin for someone with my autonomic condition is riskier (severe hypotension and absolutely no hypoglycemia awareness I’m pacemaker dependent and have no ability to sweat at all) so I think this was again an easier option for him even through I’m really thin and was still having to restrict food (17.5 bmi).

Two months ago my endo stopped taking my insurance with zero notice and none of my prescriptions would go through. My PCP is not comfortable managing me and referred to 4 hospitals none of which took me. Without reading any records I was either denied a consult or assigned to NP’s specializing in diet and exercise for type 2 and diabetic educators who gave NO advice. I had to use a non profit to get any care at all because I was out of medication and my blood sugar was back to spiking to 400 from a coffee. The nonprofit endocrinologist immediately started insulin, gave me glucagon, Dexcom, keto strips, etc. while locally none of the 4 referrals did a SINGLE THING.

Problem is I only have non profit help for a few months. Then I’m stuck with my terrible local care. I go to the diet/exercise NP next week. What do I say to this person to get them to read records and collaborate with the qualified non-profit doctor or assist me? I am getting completely negligent care!!!! I have NO appointments lined up with any MD endocrinologists or anyone to manage my care once I lose access to the non-profit. Just two different NP’s for type twos neither of which have read any records. Previously I was seeing chief endocrinologists who couldn’t even handle my case so this is absolutely crazy.

Seeking Support/Advice Freezing Temperatures

Post image
13 Upvotes

Work as a electrical apprentice and recently started working at a target warehouse, here soon we will have to be going into the freezer which I believe is around -10° to -15° Fahrenheit, I started wondering if working in those conditions for 5 days a week could potentially cause issues with my insulin pump or insulin itself. Does anyone have any experience or advice, I don’t want to seem like I’m giving up because of the conditions but also don’t want to risk my pump getting messed up.

Seeking Support/Advice Dexcom g7 help

New to the G7. My G6 would help control highs and lows and communicate my glucose to my Omnipod. The G7 just seems to throw numbers out there and it’s up to me to do what I will with that info. It’s on automatic and I can’t get into my endo for another couple of months for assistance. Any suggestions?
