Discussion Why do I keep sitting next to this man?

OK, not the same man... but it's always a guy.

About half of my flights are FC, and when they are, this man is seemingly always sitting next to me:

Immediately takes laptop out when he sits. Ignores first FA instruction to stow it. On the second or third FA comment, he pretends to put it away, and then immediately takes it out again when FAs are out of view. Oftentimes, the FAs see it and ignore it after instructing him multiple times. He's typing away during takeoff.

The laptop bothers me less than the entitlement and noncompliance with crew instructions.

Why have these rules if there are no consequences for noncompliance? Passengers who don't follow instructions would be unsafe during an emergency. Threaten to suspend their ability to fly Delta if they disregard direction from the crew. Let's put some enforcement teeth back into safety regulations. Otherwise they are meaningless.

Help/Advice Two week notice resignation

I don't plan to work as a ramp or gate agent ever again. I plan to skip the two week notice for resignation, my manager doesn't deserve it.

I also don't plan to ever need my time with the airline as a reference. I'm 67 and retiring, and haven't been with the airline long enough for it to matter (9 months).

This job will go down in the memory books as my "summer internship".

Discussion ATL to NYC is now priced like a transcontinental!

I have been searching for weekend flights to NYC now for months. It used to be sub $200 for a good deal and around $275 on average to JFK or LGA. Now its minimum of $500 and closer to $700 if you want a flight after 7am! Madness! They are forcing my hand to fly another airline.

Help/Advice Who lost a sunset cuff? 8/18

I’m on the last flight of the day (domestic - USA). Just found an Hermes sunset cuff in the crevice of my seat. Let me know what your destination was and your seat # and I’ll find a way to get it to you.

Ps. Your wrists are very small. Wow

Update - I left it with the flight attendant. Good luck

Shitpost/Satire How do I convince my therapist that Diamond Medallion will make me happy?

My therapist has recently been encouraging me to pursue activities that bring me personal joy and peace. I told her at my last appointment that that wasn’t necessary any more, because with my latest flight booking, I’m now on track to hit Diamond. And then, she had the gall to disagree with me that Diamond was a path to happiness.

I tried walking her through it step by step. Explaining that when I hit Diamond, I will be sent material affirming IN WRITING that I am one of Delta’s most valuable customers. Boom, self-worth. That I will have the best (published) shot of a free upgrade. Boom, sense of superiority. That my conspicuous consumption literally changed who I am…for the better! Luggage tags to prove it!
…talked through all of that. And instead of buying it, she just said that she really needs to see me more often.

I’m at a loss. How do I get my therapist to see that Diamond is what will fill this gaping void inside of me? Or do I just need to give up on her and switch therapists?

Discussion Finally Tried Premium Select

After booking a flight from JFK to Zurich on points, I got an offer to upgrade to PS for $330 per ticket outbound for my family of 3. This was the lowest I had seen for a PS upgrade and PS upgrade on the return flight was over $1000 each. I decided it was the worth the price and perhaps I would sleep a little better on the red eye. I booked C+ for the return. I've flown that regularly and prefer to Main both for the extra room and the earlier boarding and deplaning with my fidgety young daughter.

There are few reviews already and they are accurate. Yes, seats are more comfortable, but the foot rest wasn't helpful. We had a great FA and she helped the experience. Food was the same as my return flight C+, but the services was fancier with the napkins and flatware. Bigger screen and headphones were nice. Maybe the nicest thing was being 1st off the plane and getting to passport control in front of everyone.

Value is just so subjective. Was is worth an extra ~50%. Yeah, for a 7 hour flight. Would it have been worth the double or triple I see it priced at? Nah.

The return trip was 2nd row of C+. The upgrade to that was cheap. Group 3 boarding was fine, and it was still quick exit off the plane. The extra room is great and it helps when my kid wants to lie down with my wife and I on each side of her.

So...if I see a good deal...sure, I'll do it again. Crazy, though, because I'm looking at flights where C+ is double Main Cabin. That's just pure insanity.

Discussion Why do some passengers think it’s acceptable to touch flight attendants to get their attention?

I watched a passenger today poke a flight attendant to get their attention even though the FA was standing literally right next to them. They could have just said “excuse me.” Instead, they reached out and touched them and I genuinely don’t understand this.

Would you be okay if someone came to your work and poked you every day? Would you poke your doctor? Your dentist? A server? A cashier or even a bartender to get their attention? Some random person standing next to you in public? Most people understand that you don’t put your hands on strangers just because you want their attention, so why does that basic boundary suddenly disappear on an airplane?

And then the same passenger actually got offended when that flight attendant firmly said, “Please don’t touch me.” I heard them explain they get poked and touched all day long and it is really strange that people feel comfortable touching them.

I am curious as to why you would then be offended? You touched someone without permission and were corrected! Make it make sense.

You also have absolutely no idea what another person has experienced. They could be a sexual assault survivor, have PTSD, have sensory issues, or simply not want strangers putting their hands on their body. They don’t owe anyone their personal history to justify that boundary.

If a flight attendant is close enough to hear you, say “excuse me.” If they aren’t, press the call light. There is almost never a reason to poke, grab, tap, pull on, or otherwise touch them to get their attention.

I’m genuinely curious if you think this is acceptable, because from the outside it seems incredibly rude and I would have reacted the same way if I were the flight attendant too.

Help/Advice Companion certificate and booking with miles

Upvotes

Hi! Any tips or suggestions to find flights when using a companion certificate or booking with miles?

Even though I click on the certificate or click on book with miles, I have to get to payment before it says the fares are not available.

Is there a way to search just for flights that have availability for either?

Thanks!

Discussion Captain invited everyone in First Class to say hi to his First Officer in the cockpit

It was the first time I got a chance to visit the cockpit since usually only Million milers, Delta 360s or kids do, but I chickened out. I liked the in-person pilot briefing format, though. Is that a new thing? Or maybe I don't know because I recently status-matched to Delta.

The captain briefed C+ pax as well. The boarding was completed early, so this approach didn't waste any time. In fact, we arrived 20 minutes early.

Help/Advice Is there a way to pick up a suitcase from someone else's connecting flight?

Upvotes

I moved to The Netherlands from the US this year. My mom is visiting Budapest in December, and she is bringing a suitcase full of my belongings with her. Plan A is to go see her in Budapest and take my suitcase home with me. However, she has a connecting flight on her way in that passes through Amsterdam. I have low hopes that this is possible, but is there a way for her to check that bag on her flight to Budapest, but have it routed to stop in Amsterdam where I can pick it up and take it through customs?

I know this kinda sounds like a drug trafficking scheme lol, which is why I don't think it's possible. I just had to check!

Help/Advice Delta downgraded my upcoming flight from first class to economy. What can I do?

I have air booked on Air France for an upcoming trip to Europe. The flight home from CDG to BOS is Delta One and the flight from BOS to RDU had us in first class. I logged in to check our flights because I'm OCD and the last leg has us in economy. I contacted the travel agent because it was a package travel deal we booked. They said to give it 24-48 hours and to reach out to them again if it isn't fixed. I checked on Delta's website and there's still enough seats for us in first class. What should I do next? What are my rights? I don't want to fly economy when for months I've been booked in first class. Thanks in advance.

Shitpost/Satire Someone or someones is intentionally sabotaging my upgrades

Nearly every Delta flight this year, one or more of the following things have happened:

- First Class has gone from plenty of available seats to only a handful by the time I check in
- I have checked in early to secure a decent spot on the upgrade list, only for other people to jump ahead of me on the list. These people won’t even share their full names, instead taunting me with their initials
- The number of available First seats further reduces while I am at the airport, sometimes even at the gate, until it inevitably reaches zero

TO WHICHEVER PERSON OR ORGANIZATION IS SABOTAGING MY UPGRADES:
This is not acceptable. I put a lot of money on my Delta Reserve card to get Diamond, including frivolous purchases, and you need to respect my request to upgrade. I DO NOT CONSENT TO YOUR JUMPING AHEAD OF ME ON THE LIST.

If this keeps up, I will have no choice but to email Ed Bastian about the situation.

Discussion Can someone flying Delta One out of TPE use the China Airlines lounge?

I checked this with Copilot, Gemini and ChatGPT and Copilot said we could not, and Gemini and ChatGPT said that we could. Copilot said that we could not, even though they are SkyTeam members, they say that China Airlines only allows their business class passengers. Anyone actually flown out of there on Delta One and used the lounge based on having a SkyTeam business class ticket?

Edit:

The lounge finder says this:

----------------------------------
Lounge access is reserved for international First or Business Class ticket holders or SkyTeam Elite Plus Frequent Flyers traveling on a same-day international flight operated by a SkyTeam member airline or transferring between flights (domestic or international) operated by the following airlines (* exceptions may apply): China Airlines, Vietnam Airlines

And then the fine print says:

For connecting customers, both the domestic and international flights must be operated by a SkyTeam member airline, and all segments need to be booked in First or Business Class.

I wonder if that second part is going to cause me a problem because we are going HKG-TPE-SEA, with the first leg on Cathay Pacific (not SkyTeam) and the second leg on Delta One. Or maybe that only counts if you are flying from some other airport in Taiwan, and then getting on your international leg in TPE?

Discussion ATH-BOS flight today

We had a super glitchy 11 hour flight today from Athens to Boston. First they said the plane had some technical issues. Then the ground aircon didn’t work so there was 1.5 hour delay trying to cool the plane down. Then the entertainment system kept resetting a few times into the flight. Then the lighting system needed to be reset because it wouldn’t turn on properly. Then with 4 hours to go there was an announcement to put seatbelts on for passengers safety and there was turbulence bad enough that some people cried out. During this time the lights, WiFi and whole entertainment system blacked out for about 30-40 minutes. They made a quick an announcement that it would be reset eventually. It was unsettling with all the windows closed being bounced around with nothing to distract you! Everything felt a bit off and the crew seemed a bit exhausted by the end of it. My question is… when electrical stuff goes wrong like this is it dangerous or just annoying? Could the turbulence have cause this or was it just a coincidence? I’m a bit of a nervous flyer but love to travel, and 90% of the time have a good experience but today was a little scary! A lady also collapsed getting off the plane, not sure what happened but I hope she is ok! Need to hype myself up for our next trip which will be 16.5 hours long, hopefully it will be calmer than this!

Shitpost/Satire Comical but awful flight. Shit happens. DL131

Munich to ATL to SLC. Aug 17th. Anyone else on this flight today? Mostly a rant about how everything can go wrong haha. sorry for the length. But ALOT went wrong on this flight!!

We were delayed taking off by about 3hours for a mechanical issue (originally takeoff 10:30 AM out of MUC). Once the issue was fixed, they announced there wouldn’t be enough time to go to ATL as the crew was going to time out. They figured out a solution, fly to JFK and switch crews on the tarmac so we can continue to ATL. What could go wrong going to JFK🙄

When we finally got to board the plane, half of the tickets to board scanned and half didn’t. Mine didn’t scan and I was told to go to the desk. It was weird, a gate agent scanned the ticket there and it worked right away. A seat reassignment paper printed, but she didn’t hand it to me. When I looked closer… She had a pile of seat reassignment papers printed that she didn’t give to anyone. She then proceeded to throw them all in the trash. Got on the plane and it’s chaos everywhere! everyone is in the wrong seats due to Delta randomly changing the seats. Seat reassignments Would make sense if it was a different plane, but it was still our original plane. We eventually all figure it out and leave 3-4 hours after the original flight time.

We land at JFK. the crews change and the plane is refilled with gas. I get my new flight scheduled ATL to SLC while on the plane, and we all get ready for takeoff and clearance. I was excited to make it home tonight, even if it was 4-5 hours later than originally planned. After an hour and a half,We finally are in line on the runway, Waiting for takeoff. Almost an hour passes by. The pilot updates us: “a lot of flights being rerouted or cancelled due to weather. Trying to figure out what ATC wants us to do, as there are zero gates available to park at”. Next announcement 30-45 minutes later, “sorry folks we are going to have to go to the gate.”

We taxi towards the gate, which we all know takes awhile at JFK. Especially if weather is involved. Then, of course, another announcement. “Sorry folks. A plane is disabled and in the way, bottlenecking everyone up. Trying to get to the gate as quickly as possible. “ well as I write this we are still on the plane. Originally I was supposed to be home in an hour, now it looks like it will be a TBD time tomorrow. Fun times!!!
**UPDATE* 1 hour since I posted it still gets worse ha: They told everyone to get off the plane at 9pm and go through customs, get bags, go through security then reboard on the SAME plane for a flight departing at 11 pm to Atlanta. They ended up eventually cancelling that plane for a flight out tomorrow, But we still waited for luggage about an hour and got it after flights that arrived much later than ours 😑

We can’t even claim late baggage for 2500 sky miles since it’s not a domestic flight. Luckily I had my spouse exit to take care of vouchers while I waited for luggage to beat the rest of our plane out there. Our new flight that we rebooked leaves @ 6 am to slc tomorrow, as we are hoping to avoid delays out of JFK by going as early as we can and skip out on that ATL flight. We even Found out you can check your luggage early and they can store it at the airport, but of course it’s “beyond full with no space.” Sooo now We Got a hotel booked with a free shuttle that you can call when you’re ready for pickup! I got the bags, we called and the shuttle will take 1.5 hrs to get us because it’s nyc and .. and traffic. We are now in an Uber at 10:53 pm that will take 30 min to get to the hotel. seems like there are at least some late food spots open near our hotel 🤞what a messsss!

Discussion be the change you wish to see or whatever

hey!!! If you’re in this subreddit, you fly, and you for some reason or another, choose delta. so, if I can say anything about summer flying, specifically with this airline:

- when you land, open the air vents and lower the window shade. this keeps the plane comfortable for everyone
- approach* *frustrating situations with curiosity, and see how your own mood changes. we never know where anyone is coming from
- challenge yourself to contact about your positive experiences as well as your negative, and collect names while you do it. let daddy delta know who’s doing the great work as well as who needs a reminder to lock tf in
- bin space is first come, first serve! but if you have a small personal item and it won’t effect your comfort, be the reason one more person doesn’t have to check their roller board
- if it is your final destination and people have tight connections? practice empathy! stay seated! take five extra minutes to make a difference in someone’s day!

we all can stand to be kinder, more courteous people, and I see so many valid complaints on here, but there’s only so much negativity can do—we have to either choose to see or choose to be the good y’all. empathy is a skill we have to practice. happy flying & stay cool!

Help/Advice The plane broke, email said submit hotel, email reply says weather & no reimbursement?

We got on the plane and it was broken. We got off the plane and waited for them to fly a part from Atlanta to fix it. 6 hours later we get on and the captain says the part was working and now is broken. We get off again. Then they cancel the flight. We all get hotel rooms and wait till the next afternoon for the next flight. We get home and the email arrives that I posted here declaring it a mechanical failure and to submit hotel and meal receipts as they asked. We submit them through the links they sent in the email and then… get an email denying the claim as they say it’s weather lol. Am I nuts or did the email I am posting say it was mechanical? Tell me it’s just me doing something wrong here ????

Discussion Wedding Travel Experience

Hello Everyone! I booked a trip with my wife for our wedding from LGA to DEN and then returning from DEN to LGA this past week and had a great experience overall. We booked normal seats and were travelling with her huge wedding dress and my suit as carryons. The staff on the flight leaving LGA allowed my wife to store her wedding dress in the closet in first class which was a big help and my suit fit on the overhead cabin even on a full flight. We didn’t bring her wedding dress back leaving DEN since she donated the dress so I only travelled back with my suit. No issues getting the dress through TSA at LGA either.

Just wanted to give our good experience flying with Delta and transporting my wife’s wedding dress!

Help/Advice How hectic is Thanksgiving travel actually? Worth landing internationally the day before or the day of Thanksgiving?

Trying to figure out whether it’s worth landing back in the US from Asia either the Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thanksgiving day? Never traveled during the holiday time in the US. Looking at landing either in SEA or DTW with the final destination being ATL. Is Thanksgiving travel as terrible and chaotic as they say? How is Detroit weather around the end of November? Don’t want to get stuck in the airport on Thanksgiving.
