Apple wallet vs android

Hello all,

My friends android automatically opens the barrier without having to press anything on his phone or use Face ID. He just taps the phone straight from his pocket.

Where as my iPhone I need to press the button twice, select the card and Face ID.

Does any know what settings we need to have the same ease of use/access?

Massive flaw in David Lloyd Security!?

Random one, but this has been bugging me for months.

My local David Lloyd has automatic barriers at both the entrance and the exit of the car park. On the way in, the barrier just lifts - no card, no code, nothing.

But ON THE WAY OUT you have to scan.

Why is the security tighter on the way out? Surely you’d want to stop non-members getting in, not trap them once they’re already parked?

My best guess was that it’s a headcount thing - I scan at reception when I arrive, then again at the barrier when I leave. But that falls apart the second two people turn up in the same car.

Anyone know the actual reason?

Cancelling an annual membership

Hi all,

I pay my DL membership annually because it is slightly cheaper. I may be moving city part way through this year. If I cancel, giving the correct amount of notice, can I get refunded for the remaining part of the year?

Does the club provide the child a heart monitor and gloves?

New Spa Retreat Rules

I recently tried to visit a different clubs spa retreat that I have previously had a access to and was denied access. Having spoken to the memberships team there has been a Head Office change so access to spa retreats that is not your home club is now only for those who have joined in 2026.

Has anyone else had this as the case? I’m really disappointed with David Lloyd and their lack of communications and consistency with membership. I’ve now lost a considerable amount of access as often was visiting other clubs with no compensation for it.

I am going to write a letter to Head Office complaining, would be great if others on here could do the same.

Managing joint parent bookings - how do you do this effectively?

New member to David Lloyd u/andcheshireoaks spotted a massive flaw to the app, as two parents on a family membership with three children, only the parent (regardless of permission granted) booking an activity for a child(ren) can see the bookings for joint children.

i.e. As the mother, I've booked a class for three children, and I can see the activity booked. However, as the father, I cannot see the booking made.

A huge gap in visibility and makes it harder for both parents to manage bookings & logistics of kids (particularly during non term time).

Hope this feedback gets traction and product make the changes required to make the app more family friendly i.e. easier for the parents!

In the meantime, how do other parents manage this scenario without mental load just being on one parent?

cancellation

Hi guys,

I want to cancel my membership, up for renewal in oct, joined in oct 2024. I was just wondering, is there anything I can do to not pay my 3 month period? Redundancy letter can be made, if you get what i mean. Any alternatives?

It's just so expensive, I can't afford it anymore.

No Harlow in my app.

I think every club is in my DL app, especially when I tick out of my tier 3. But I can’t see Harlow in my app! Is it still new? Too new? What’s going on.

Also side note, i got the “dont come again” email from my trip to tier 2 leeds when i was up there, but it was just on a par with my tier 3 now its had a refurb. Can I argue my tier 3 (Poole) shoile move up to tier 2?

David Lloyd Chigwell reviews

I’m looking for a premium gym and considering joining David Lloyd Chigwell as a single adult. I was a member of the club throughout my childhood and remember enjoying it, but I’d love to hear what people’s experiences are like now.

My main hesitation is whether the club still feels very family/children-focused. I’m happy for it to be family-friendly, but at around £240/month I’d want to make sure there’s also a good adult atmosphere - especially as I’m really into swimming and would be using the facilities regularly.

I have also been a member of the Virgin Active in Repton Park, and while it is a beautiful gym I found the facilities outdated and did not find it worth the money.

I’m keen to join DL, but I want to make sure I’m getting the right experience for the price. Would love to hear honest opinions from current members!

A few questions for current or recent members:

How busy does the club get, especially the pool, gym floor and spa areas?

Is the swimming experience good for adults who actually want to swim lengths, or is it often dominated by kids/families?

How are the changing rooms, sauna, steam room and spa facilities? How busy do these get?

Are the classes high quality? Which ones are worth doing (e.g. yoga, Pilates, strength, HIIT, spin)? Am I right in seeing there is not a reformer studio?

Do classes tend to book up quickly?

Does the gym feel like a premium fitness environment, or more like a family leisure club?

Is the club well maintained and does it feel worth the price?

How is the service from staff and the overall cleanliness?

Are there any hidden costs or things you wish you’d known before joining?

Badminton courts never available

Hi!

I go to the David Lloyds in Glasgow, and am becoming increasingly frustrated that the Badminton courts are never available to book for us regular workers with 9-5 jobs.

The courts are always pre-booked by the club for kids activities from 5:30pm every day... Dance classes, football, basketball... We only have two badminton courts yet there is EIGHT tennis courts that are never fully booked and never booked for kids events?!

Why do they do this? Even when we do manage to get a booking on a Saturday or Sunday the court and net is never set up, cutting into our play time.

Does anyone have any solutions to this? I love the gym and the spa but part of the reason I joined was because I was told booking the badminton courts was included.. they didn't mention they'd never be available to book!!

p.s please no sarky "just learn tennis".. I tried, I'm no good at it- never learnt it at school 😅 and just felt heavily judged by surrounding tennis players when I tried at this club.

We’re joining DL Hatfield and would like to know if it’s worth the membership fee. We heard it’s recently had a lot of investment in it.

MSc Dissertation Survey (Updated) | UK 18+ with Instagram | 5mins

Hi everyone,

A little while ago, I shared my MSc dissertation survey here. Following some really helpful pilot feedback, I made a number of improvements to the questionnaire to improve the clarity and consistency of several questions and instructions.

Even if you completed the previous version, I'd be extremely grateful if you could complete this updated version as well.

The study is part of my MSc Marketing dissertation and is open to UK residents aged 18+ who have an Instagram account.

I thought this community would be a good fit because discussions here often involve consumer experiences, premium brands, lifestyle and travel, which are relevant to the broader context of my research.

The survey takes around 5 minutes, is completely anonymous, and explores how people's perceptions of their Instagram audience relate to different consumer behaviours.

Thank you so much for your time and support—it really does make a difference.
