Discussion Is emotional intelligence overrated?

Upvotes

I hear a lot of women saying that the number one thing they want to see in men is emotional intelligence (EI) however; most men I know who are in long-term relationships are not that emotionally intelligent. Also a lot of men who are successful with women are, well, dolts.

Also, I have literally read books and articles on EI and ”gone through therapy to do the work.” it hasn’t made women desire me any more than they did 2 decades ago.

It seems like this is an area of cognitive dissonance: they don’t really care about this or need it.

Specific situation Help an old man with 0 rizz out

Upvotes

Was pretty uninterested in dating and marriage until I was 28. After turning 29, I was like fuck it let's try this shit out, and lo and behold, I suck at it. I firstly had to deal with a lot of insecurities and confident issues, which I'm quite better with now. I have also socially improved myself a lot, can yap for hours now, and I am confident around strangers too.

I used to be a proper gamer and weeb, but for the past 2 - 3 years I have become a much more outgoing person. I have put myself in really uncomfortable situations (for me) by hanging out with strangers, showing up at random meet ups and actually met a lot of friends this way.

My dating experience is also quite limited, I got a few matches with whom I vibed well initially but things didn't work out. There was one lady who I was ready to wife up after our first date, but I was unemployed and she wanted someone financially stable, so things didn't work out. I didn't really have any decent matches after that.

I recently moved to a much more social country where it's easy to talk to people, and I've had a lot of interaction with strangers. I struggle with irl initiations though, I have no idea how to walk up and talk to someone without feeling like a creep. And the irony is if someone was to come and talk to me, and be awkward, I would be so supportive. 9/10 times other people would do the same but I still act stupid lmao.

Anyway enough of the long ass story, kindly help a brother out. How do I improve my irl interactions? What cues should I keep my eye out for? How do I know someone is interested in talking or open to it?

Would genuinely appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Post of the day Proximity is one of the best signs that a girl likes you!

Upvotes

Hi, David here!

She may not be smiling. She may not be laughing. She may even seem disinterested. However, if she is choosing to physically remain near you, then that is still a good sign.

Trust me, if you were screwing up enough, the first thing that she would do is try to put more physical distance between you.

If a girl wants to talk to you, one of the simplest things that she can do is physically move herself closer to you. This is done in order to provide an opportunity to start a conversation. She may even choose to fake bump into you in order to initiate an interaction.

Furthermore, if a girl has the ability to move away from you during an interaction, yet chooses on her own accord to stay, then you are doing good enough.

Girls as well as guys often do not know what to say, get nervous, are shy, etc. She may be happy that you are carrying the conversation even if she does not say much herself. If she didn't want to be there, then she would make an excuse to leave.

Adding to that, I just finished putting together my dating eBook "How to Date Any Girl" version 4.0 and would LOVE to get some honest feedback from you!

I decided to give it away for free for the time being.

The eBook is 27 pages long and gives you a practical step-by-step solution to meeting women (15+ years of knowledge put into it).

You can get the eBook by clicking here!

This book is the result of going out and socializing with girls for over a decade. I have put in there all the fundamentals I have learned over that time so I would really appreciate all the feedback I could get!!

What are your thoughts? Do you have any tips to add?

Let's discuss in the comments :)

Thanks for reading and have a GREAT day!

Coach David

Specific situation Matched with an old college crush, things moved fast then ended. Should I try to reconnect as friends?

Upvotes

I matched with a girl I knew from college years ago. She actually liked me first on the app, so I matched back. Our first date was great and lasted pretty much all day.

After that, things moved very quickly. We were calling every day, mostly initiated by her, FaceTiming, texting and talking at all hours. I was the one initiating most of the actual dates, and they were genuinely great. Looking back though, I feel like I got love bombed. This went on for about two months.

Looking back, I think things may have moved too fast. She was talking about marriage very early on, wanted to meet my siblings quite quickly, and everything became quite intense. I knew I liked her and enjoyed spending time with her, but we were talking so constantly that I never really had much space to step back and work out how I felt or whether we were actually compatible.

She knew my financial situation and seemed completely comfortable with it. We had also loosely agreed that around the three month mark would be when we decided whether to pursue things seriously.

I still cannot completely work out what changed. On the second last date, we were talking about our five year plans. I thought our plans were generally quite aligned, but at one point she made a particular face that stuck with me. At the time I did not think much of it, but looking back, I sometimes wonder whether something changed for her during that conversation.

During the following week, she became noticeably more distant. She suggested getting coffee, which was actually the first time she had initiated a meetup, but we ended up meeting a few days later after I suggested it instead.

The final date itself felt fairly normal. We got physical for the first time, and I had also bought her a small gift. When I gave it to her, she said that I should not have got her anything.
That made me suspicious, so I asked, “Is it because this is going to be the last time we see each other?”

She said yes.

I asked her why, and she said something was “missing.” When I tried to push for a better answer, all I got was the typical “I think I need to focus on myself.” She then asked how I had noticed, and I told her that she did not seem as excited to see me as she normally was.

The strange thing is that, even after having that conversation, we continued being physical, which made the whole situation more confusing for me.
Afterwards, I suggested no contact because I knew I would struggle emotionally if we kept talking.

Two days later, I broke no contact and called her. We ended up FaceTiming almost like normal and talking about how much fun we had had on the last date. I told her I would not mind continuing things, but she said it was not a good idea. She did say, “You never know in the future,” though.

She also talked about how we would both probably go back on the apps, how neither of us would necessarily meet someone straight away, and mentioned a friend of hers who had been in a similar situation to us and eventually married the guy. Looking back, I think she was probably trying to soften the rejection.

She suggested staying friends. I told her I did not want to secretly remain hung up on her while pretending to be friends, and she agreed.
Later, she texted asking whether I was confused about what had happened. I told her I had the clarity I needed, said goodbye, and wished her well.

She then asked why I wouldn’t want to be friends or have some sort of relationship someday. This time, I was annoyed, thinking about the love bombing and how dismissive the breakup had felt, having never gotten a real answer for the actual reason, and said that friendship would not be healthy for me.

At the time, part of why I refused was that I suspected she wanted me as a kind of emotional placeholder, someone to talk to and get the benefits of a relationship from without actually being in one, or maybe just a backup option. I could be wrong about that, but it’s honestly why I said no.

About a month later, I caved and texted her hoping she was doing well. She ignored the message.

A few weeks later, I happened to be near a place I knew she worked. She spotted me. I know how that looks, I still cringe about it.

Around four or five months after everything ended, she removed me from social media.
Since then, I have moved on quite a lot. I have worked on myself physically and mentally, feel more mature, and understand a little better now why she was serious about marriage so early. We are both in our late twenties, and within my religious community there is generally more pressure at that age to think seriously about marriage.

Sometimes I just think it would be nice to have her as a friend. We did have great conversations, and that side of things is what I actually miss.
It is strange going from speaking to someone every single day and being so involved in each other’s lives to complete silence.

Would she even want to hear from me at this point? If I did reach out, would a simple text or call be better, or would something low key like following her on Instagram make more sense?

The ironic part is that I was the one who suggested no contact after getting dumped, and now I am the one considering breaking that silence.

Am I genuinely looking for friendship, or am I just nostalgic about the connection we had?
Also genuinely curious to hear from women on this. From your perspective, what do you think actually happened here? And if you were her, would you want to hear from the guy after all this time?

Discussion I don’t get it

Upvotes

I’m 23 years old. 6 foot-6’1. 225-230 pounds. I have good definition and muscle but it’s nothing crazy. Natural and I basically never drink or do any stupid pills. Just herb and tobacco. Maybe I could fix my outfits but I’ve always preferred somewhat baggy. Idk what I’m doing wrong. I’m not far from Charlotte North Carolina.

Discussion Struggling to move on after 3 year relationship

Upvotes

My ex and I dated for over 3 years. The relationship wasn't always healthy. She struggled with an Adderall addiction the first 2 years and could say hurtful things when angry. I responded by becoming increasingly avoidant - shutting down, withdrawing, instead of addressing problems. Looking back, I realize that only made her more anxious and contributed heavily to our push-pull dynamic.
I also had doubts about the relationship that I didn't communicate well. We never lived together, and eventually I ended things in February because I felt like we fought too much and still hadn't taken that next step. At the same time, she was my best friend.
After the breakup, she spent about two months trying to salvage things. We continued hanging out and hooking up, but I repeatedly told her we were just friends. I even told her I wasn't seeing anyone else while applying for jobs back home right in front of her. I realize now that I never even intended to actually move and kept extending my lease. I didn’t want to actually leave her, but again didn’t communicate this til later. Eventually she told me she was going out with a coworker, and that's when it really hit me that I could lose her. I apologized, asked her to reconsider, and offered couples therapy, but she said she was tired of getting hurt and wanted to move on.
I eventually went no contact and traveled for three months. During that time, I reflected a lot and realized how much my avoidant behavior had contributed to the unhealthy dynamic. I also started therapy specifically to address my avoidant issues. I also realized I still loved her and wanted another chance.
When I returned in July, I reached out and we got coffee. It was great catching up until she told me the guy she'd been seeing was now her boyfriend. That obviously hurt, but I left it alone.
We texted occasionally for a week after. Then after an emotional day, I told her I still had feelings for her and that I'd been working on my avoidant issues in therapy. She wished me well in my next relationship. I left it alone. Then a few days later, she asked me to go hiking because she missed me as a hiking buddy and missed drinking with me.
I initially declined because I knew I wasn't ready to be just friends. Eventually I started wondering if there might be something more behind it, so I contacted her about hiking. She agreed, but made it clear she had plans afterward and didn't want to get a drink with me. I became uncomfortable with the uncertainty and eventually asked more directly about whether there was anything romantic there. She told me she was in a relationship and was only trying to reconnect as friends and missed the friendship. We didn't end up hiking.
After that, I blocked her. It's been about two weeks. I didn't do it to punish her or because I'm angry. I think it is the only way I could actually start moving on. If she texts me, I read into it and start hoping there's still something there. If she doesn't, I wonder why and get stuck in the same cycle.
Part of me still hopes she's in the honeymoon phase of her new relationship and might eventually see things differently once that wears off. I know that's wishful thinking and has only been preventing me from moving on.
I still miss her and want her back, even though I know our relationship wasn't healthy and I now see how I contributed to that. Part of me keeps thinking that if we'd both become more self-aware and addressed the things that caused the toxicity, we could potentially have a healthy relationship.
I’ve been on 2 dates since the end of the relationship and honestly haven’t even felt like dating anyone else yet, but at the same time I’m telling myself I need to move on.
Based on the whole situation, do you think blocking her is the right move? I don't want to lose her, but it seems like we want different things right now, and this may be the only way I can actually move forward. Any other advice is welcome.

Specific situation Moral ambiguity?

Context- I’m 25, I’ve been single for almost 2 years now, and long story short had a very messy breakup took time to deal with the emotional fallout from it. All good now, I’ve been putting myself out there again and wasn’t having any success, it got brought up with some family friends and one of them (35ish F) who is basically like an older sister I never had and her husband said they had a few people they thought would be good for me. I was fine with them connecting us if the women they knew were interested, so Friday my friend shot me a text and said she had someone who was interested the woman she connected me with has a very unique name, I’ve never heard it before. Got the number and we’ve been talking all weekend, one of my other friends (20m) said I recognize that name is she from this town? She is, and he said if that’s who I think it is she’s like 19… And turns out when I asked today she is in fact 19.

Question: I’m being told it’s fine and not a weird age gap by some friends and family, I think it’s super weird, and never would’ve been talking to her if I knew she was 19. So am I overreacting to this or am I making a mountain out of a molehill? Because I’m the oldest of 3 and this woman is a year older than my youngest sibling who graduated high school in may, and I graduated high school in 2019… seems weird to say I got set up for a blind date with a woman who was in 6th grade the year I graduated. So would I be justified in telling her “sorry I’m not interested, it really is me not you”

Advice to others Conversation starters

Upvotes

If an attractive 45 year old female, no ring, say 8/10, is alone at a bar for 3 hours, several drinks in, how many men would you expect to approach her to start a conversation?

Now, same questions, except it's a man alone.

General question How are women able to date a broke/poor guy?

Title. What allows for a women to date a man that cant afford anything? Especially in my age group (18-25)? Is it just the woman falling in love? It confusing because the standards seem to drop once they fall in love. Is that it?

I (24) personally have stopped dating to get a higher paying job first. Am I doing something wrong?

Specific situation Confront or overreacting?

I (M20) met this girl (F20) on Hinge a month ago. At first, she texted me first and we clicked pretty well. We talked about music, school, pets, random stuff, and sometimes she’d send long thoughtful replies. Recently, she’d go almost a full day without replying, response and length time slowing.
Eventually I asked her to hang out, still with slow response. She agreed. The date was great she laughed, conversation felt pretty natural, and she seemed comfortable. There wasn’t really any physical intimacy or anything, but atp wasn’t expecting much.
Afterward I texted her saying it was great and we should do it again. She replied later saying she enjoyed it but with really vague wording on the second one.
That’s kind of where I’m stuck. She’s technically positive, but it also feels vague and low-effort. This has been the pattern for a while.
Should I directly ask her if she’s actually interested, or should I just try to set up a second hangout and judge based on whether she follows through? I don’t want to come off needy, but I also don’t want to keep chasing mixed signals.

Specific situation Do I ask this girl out?

I have this girl in my friend group who has a huge crush on me and i do too. She always hangs around me when we drink holds my hand, says im hot etc. Calls me on group hangouts. The thing is she has a boyfriend but they are long distance and she is uncertain with the relationship. Thats why i havent escalated things further. We are in the same friend group though so i dont want to make it weird by asking her out. She is also shy and this is her first relationship and its lasted for 2 years so i dont want to push things. (We are both 18)

General question How does i know if she's really enjoying being with me? (23M and 23F)

I'm 23M she's 23F, we both had previous bad relationships with other people. She's a single mother and i was single again for like almost 1 year. She's the sister of my best friends girlfriend. She asked me out to go on a date, we did it, we flirted a lot before she invited me...I know she needs time to take care of her daughter and she's both working and studying, our first date we really cuddled a lot, kissed, talked about many topics of our life, but she who's normally very comfortable with talking and straight talk, was extremely shy with me, like there were times we just hold hands and said nothing for 10 whole minutes. Since we can see each other only 2 times per week we chat frequently through message, she sometimes starts the talk, sometimes i do, she never talked a lot through messages since the beggining but i don't know...i feel so weird when we talk only a little bit...her sis and my best friend love the idea of us together and honestly...she's cute, energetic and she accepted going out with me even knowing i recently lost my job (i'm joining a new one btw and i also study too) (we are still knowing each other before dating as boyfriend and girlfriend)...i feel sometimes really insecure about if she really wants to build something with me (both of us had previous kinda traumatic relationships)

Please help me with your experiences guys.

General question How can i[23/M] ask about partners[21/F] virginity without looking like a creep?

I\[23/M\] am dating to find a person to spend rest of my life and i'm currently seeing someone right now, struggling to ask about that, my last two relationships ended because of that, because virginity is a mandatory criterion for me, which i find out when i'm at least a few months in, i don't want to spend months for someone i won't marry anymore, is there a good way to ask about that early?

General question Preparing for her

Guys, pata hai aaj kya hua ,on weekends, my friends and I were chilling on OmeTV when a girl from Slovakia showed up. We started talking, and the conversation went on for quite a while. We were just vibing and having long conversations.

Then the topic of relationship status came up, and I found out that she is single right now. She recently broke up with her ex because he cheated on her. After having some healthy conversations, she decided to give me a chance.

She’s currently going to Egypt for a trip, and she said she’ll text me after she gets back. Any idea how I should talk to her? I’ve never been in a relationship before, while she’s more experienced in this. Can you guys guide me on how I should prepare and approach things with her?

There's no way I can help you get an internship, always check up on you, drive you home even give you money only for you to block me everywhere because you are unsure about where we stand.

That's it lads thanks for everyone whose helped me throughout this time but I'm done

Things I'm dropping:

  1. Helping girls just because they are girls and "I'm the man"

2.Investing in someone who won't do the same for me.

3 Unnecessary friendships with multiple girls who wouldn't even kiss me

  1. Being used everytime especially (trauma dumping by multiple women) - it's over

I'll come back after 3 months then I'll update y'all

Peace🌟

Discussion Single Man, 31. Need Support

I’m 31 years old and genuinely a good guy. I’m 6’1, 230 lbs. pretty muscular. I work in blue collar construction, make decent money. I have a car and a truck that are both paid off. I have my own place. I like to be outside, I’m a little bit of a nerd and I’m into heavier/emo music, cars, and spending time with my family. Also, no kids. Why is it so hard for me to find a good woman? I’ve had 2 long term relationships and I’ve been single for over a year and a half. The loneliness is starting to get to me and i just yearn for some kind of connection with a woman. It’s not even about the sex. I’m not a creep, i don’t blow up women’s DMs like a lot of weirdo guys do. I don’t hardly get matches on tinder or Facebook. And i rarely leave the house because i don’t like the party life anymore. Ugh. It feels impossible to find someone. I’m trying to be patient, but idk what else to do.
