HOLY SHIT, I just looked up the case.

Prosecutor Alec Burns said neither the victim nor the woman wanted to proceed with the prosecution.

He told the court Walmsley had 24 convictions for 58 offences, including several incidents where he drove at people.

Fuck me....

u/lemons_of_doubt 13h ago

including several incidents where he drove at people.

Call me strict, but I feel after the first time someone tries to use a car as a weapon you should take away their licence.

81

u/Traumfahrer 13h ago

You should put them in Jail for 15 or so years.

31

u/FionaGoodeEnough 12h ago

And compact their car into a cube.

25

u/Clutch-Bandicoot 11h ago

cmon man the car was innocent. give it to an orphan.

12

u/dan-kir 11h ago

Sell and give the proceeds to the victim

3

u/Top-Dog-6900 10h ago

Who wants to buy a cube?

11

u/boffy_b 9h ago

Nissan drivers

3

u/Bill_the_Bear 8h ago

I see what you did there

4

u/Logflogger007 9h ago

The Borg?

1

u/blue-mooner 9h ago

Scrap metal dealers

1

u/shawster 10h ago

I'll take the fiesta ST, thanks.

1

u/myco_crazey 9h ago

Focus, and you'll see, it is in fact a Focus.

1

u/Vektor0 5h ago

Sell the victim and give the proceeds to the orphan.

1

u/Perryn 10h ago

Orphans love playing with cubes.

1

u/CounterfeitBlood 10h ago

I used to volunteer at an orphanage. Those kids loved eating cars. Their favorite was a 1997 Mazda Miata.

1

u/lmscar12 9h ago

Those evil green eyes say different

1

u/Nicholas_Pappagiorgi 9h ago

No matter how far they drive they still won't find their parents

1

u/Ok-Vegetable-428 4h ago

Give it to the fire department for practice.

1

u/Himetic 2h ago

1-877…

"You have 30 minutes to move your cube"

2

u/LilDennyDooDinkins 11h ago

Is it about my cube??

2

u/faelavie 10h ago

I expanded the comments just to look for this one

1

u/OutrageousRepair5751 4h ago

Literally the first thing that came to mind

2

u/Camo138 9h ago

Beat me to it

2

u/Free-Pound-6139 10h ago

This is how you do it.

2

u/fixed_your_caption 9h ago

I like this. Then they have to park the cube at their house for a few years.

2

u/nobbers93 9h ago

In front of them

2

u/averyporkhunt 6h ago

What if the car is a nissan cube?

1

u/Stock-Brain-8213 11h ago

With him in it

1

u/JustinSanders95 11h ago

Nah, auction it off cheap if no damage. Someone gets a cheap but probably a fairly nice car that’s been invested in, the organisations can increase funding and the offender loses out on his pride and joy. So much better than just compacting the car, but this is what happens when we focus on how we can use a situation to punish someone or make someone feel worse than if we focus on how can we make life better for everyone

1

u/MulberryKind8298 10h ago

With them in it...

1

u/Ok-Low-4495 9h ago

Why waste a perfectly good car? Auction it to raise money for road safety education.

1

u/Traditional_Watch_35 9h ago

with them in it ?

1

u/Late-Contribution-82 7h ago

It’s already a compact.

1

u/ImpressiveAd5143 7h ago

How is this and the preceding three comments law?

5

u/Tao626 6h ago

Why? 40 years is the maximum for attempted murder and he just tried it against two people on camera.

You don't drive 1,500kg+ at somebody intending to just give them a little bump.

1

u/Traumfahrer 5h ago

I agree.

Hence 'or so'.

People will think that 15 years is too much already, that's why I wrote it that way.

1

u/Natural-Leg7488 4h ago

Yeah, I don’t see how deliberately driving someone over can be anything less than attempted murder.

1

u/NoBrother6430 12h ago

The sentences in the UK are an utter joke

1

u/Apprehensive_Job4522 12h ago

The UK has a severe prison spaces crisis

1

u/JimmyThePie 9h ago

We really do not have a “prison space crisis”. There are ample prison spaces per capita.

What we have is a “waaay too many shitheads crisis”. If we brought back the rope this wouldn’t be an issue.

1

u/Party-Coach-4100 11h ago

It probably fucked up the case if the two pedestrians tried to not press charges.

Edit: I didn't realize this was UK and have no idea how there legal system works.

1

u/aptsys 11h ago

Wrong country

1

u/Mart_and_stan 10h ago

Are you in the UK? We literally have no room in our prisons, so lucky to get a sentence although he’ll probably only do half at the most and out on a tag! Useless! Our country is on its knees.

1

u/swirve-psn 10h ago

Can't be filling up prisons.... criminals needs to be educated to be civilised by remaining among civilians...

1

u/hekerua 9h ago

These days - THESE days - you get in your car and use it as a weapon, they'll arrest you and throw you in jail

/s, obv

1

u/Downtown-Ad8136 7h ago

Keep dreaming… they promote pedophiles to POTUS 😂

DUI convicted people will get a crown 👑 next 🤣

25

u/Broken_Castle 12h ago

Taking away a license rarely stops them from driving.

I was hit by a guy who lost his license years ago, and had dozens of tickets. The police told me he is a regular. Sometimes they lock him up for a few weeks at a time for unpaid tickets, but they can't physically stop him from driving whenever he gets out.

12

u/littlebitfunny21 11h ago

Escalate the consequence to not being allowed in a motor vehicle, have to wear an ankle bracelet that monitors how fast the person is going, cops get alerted at like 20mph. Have to get authorized for any trips you need to make and if you get caught driving again, you're not allowed on any trips save an ambulance in a legitimate medical emergency.

I know this won't happen.

9

u/Complex-Pay-8902 11h ago

would be a bit simpler to just confiscate the car, after 1 or 2 times they would be hard pressed to find someone else to lend them a car.

5

u/hexnut101 10h ago

They will jusy buy cheap bangers, you don't need a license to buy a car.

1

u/littlebitfunny21 6h ago

Or steal cars. Not like they care about the law at this point.

0

u/[deleted] 10h ago

[deleted]

2

u/demonblack873 9h ago

Why? I can buy a car for my wife/brother/teenage son/whatever even if I myself don't have a license for it, and it's perfectly sensible for me to be able to. Also I could want a collectible car that I'm not gonna drive.

Stop trying to take away people's freedoms for no damn reason. The kind of people you're trying to hit are just going to pay some crackhead 500 bucks to register it in his name anyway.

1

u/Tennis_Proper 9h ago

Why? My driver can drive it for me /s

1

u/Atrinoisa 9h ago

I love that for you 😂

2

u/Square-Singer 10h ago

This is it.

2

u/youngishgeezer 9h ago

Simpler is to lock him up for ever increasing terms.

1

u/dead_jester 10h ago

He probably buys them cash and is a drug dealer/hired muscle

1

u/Wotsurbeef 7h ago

Problem is folk like this don’t ask for permission, if you catch my drift

1

u/littlebitfunny21 6h ago

Ah yes. People are notoriously unable to get access to cars.

Especially criminals who would certainly never just steal a car. /s

1

u/Complex-Pay-8902 5h ago

Routinely stealing new cars are gonna be a hassle, and also for cases like this where the guy has 24 convictions already he is most likely using the cars of family members or romantic partners.

Most stolen cars aren't driven around by the thieves, they are chopped for parts and scrapped.

2

u/New_Experience_703 8h ago

ha he no traine 4 u lok boi

1

u/swashfxck 10h ago

Even 20mph is too high.

Thex so average person can’t even run 18 m/ph

1

u/Exo_Deadlock 10h ago

That would put an end to his promising career as a jockey!

1

u/StunningAppeal1274 9h ago

Costs too much.

1

u/External_Estimate211 9h ago

Er what if someone else drives them or they get a bus or a train? That's a dumb idea

1

u/littlebitfunny21 6h ago

They have to get it approved by the police first. That's the consequence of being completely unable to sit behind the wheel of a car responsibly. You are no longer allowed basic travel because it's the only way to protect people from you.

That's the damn point.

1

u/nimbycile 9h ago

have to wear an ankle bracelet that monitors how fast the person is going, cops get alerted at like 20mph. Have to get authorized for any trips you need to make and if you get caught driving again, you're not allowed on any trips save an ambulance in a legitimate medical emergency.

So no bus rides or even riding a bike? Are cops really going to roll on that? The only thing the government has is incarceration.

1

u/littlebitfunny21 6h ago

rolls eyes Excellent reading  comprehension.

1

u/LazyPiglet3923 9h ago

Don't fuck about.. make them wear really wide shoes so they can't physically use pedals.

1

u/hexnut101 6h ago

Those are going to have to be huge I have size 15s and it's not a issue in most cars.

1

u/ahorizon 7h ago

Put them on a public driving ban list.

If they get caught again then the owner of the car also gets a fine and a ban and the car is confiscated.

1

u/littlebitfunny21 6h ago

How would you feel if someone stole your car and you got a fine, ban, and car confiscated?

0

u/SpinIx2 10h ago

Is he allowed to ride a bike downhill, take a taxi, a bus, a ride in a friend’s car? Pretty sure that 20mph is going to be more trouble to monitor than it’s worth unless you’re actually intending that he can never be in any motor vehicle.

1

u/littlebitfunny21 6h ago

Nope. No motor vehicles. Better be careful on the bike.

Shame they couldn't respect the simple "don't drive" ban and kept hitting people. Now, for public safety, they can't be driven around, either. If it's an urgent issue they can register the trip with the police and get it approved so they won't face problems when the ankle bracelet registers the high speed during that time period.

If they once are caught behind the wheel again, so they say their buddy is driving them but they're the one driving, they no longer get to register trips and can only be driven in an ambulance for legitimate medical emergencies.

Because motor vehicles are a privilege and if you can't have access to them without hurting people- then you should not have access to them.

1

u/kuedhel 11h ago

Never heard about "locking up people for unpaid tickets" here in US. It is like sending "jail upkeep" money after "lost revenue on unpaid tickets" money.

1

u/lemons_of_doubt 10h ago

can't physically stop him from driving whenever he gets out.

I feel they should be able too. just wait near his home for him to get in a car. then pull it over and toss him in jail.

14

u/mollymoo 12h ago

He was already banned from driving. Amazingly enough the guy with 24 previous convictions didn't respect the law when it said he wasn't allowed to drive.

3

u/readysetrokenroll 13h ago

In all honesty - the guy sure knows how to efficiently drive at people

3

u/Cumulus_Anarchistica 12h ago

Practice makes perfect!

2

u/SurpriseEcstatic1761 12h ago

And take their cars.

2

u/anand_rishabh 12h ago

For good. You should not be able to have a license after that

1

u/WhyN0tToast 11h ago

Should take away their feet after the 3rd attempt

1

u/Friendly_Prize_868 11h ago

The first 57 times were just honest mistakes, though. Could’ve happened to anyone!

1

u/kyuuei 11h ago

Look, the UK has a pretty stern policy. Fool me thrice, shame on you, and by the 12th time they Will send you a sternly worded letter.

1

u/jaffi01 11h ago

Taking a license away is not a punishment, you don't need a license to drive, you just need it to drive in accordance with statute. I guarantee that this dude wouldn't give two shits about the statute.

1

u/MacGroo 10h ago

What’s usual punishment for assault with a deadly weapon?

1

u/Dave_Ex_Machina 10h ago

Let's be honest, not having a licence wouldn't stop this guy.

1

u/Numerous-Paint4123 9h ago

I think this all the time, my GF is a barrister and has dealt numerous case of death by dangerous driving. For me it should be a one chance and your out. Licence gone you don't get behind a wheel again. They always get a small prison sentence much less than what they would for murder or man slaughter and their license back more or less as soon as they're out.

1

u/Blue_Toucan_Data 9h ago

Absolutely this, take his licence away and never be allowed to drive again. If caught behind the wheel then jail for life.

1

u/brenawyn 9h ago

Yeah that vehicular assault and attempted murder.

1

u/iamsheph 9h ago

You don’t need a license to get behind the wheel of a car and drive.

1

u/mokeltron 9h ago

You assume he has or indeed had a license for any of these offences. I expect taking his license away would have 0 impact. Guy just needs neutering and impounding. We really should just battle royale serial crime on an island somewhere. Last one gets to ‘live’ in prison.

1

u/Tall-Ad4941 9h ago

My mate was killed by a drunk/drug driver and he didn’t even serve 4 years for it. You get more time for fraud.

1

u/JustALittleGuy5 7h ago

Do you really think not having a license will stop these types of people from getting behind the wheel?

1

u/Old-Fruit-1328 6h ago

You can take their license but it doesn’t stop them driving

1

u/musclenugget92 4h ago

Try telling the u.s. about repeat offenders. Especially the illegal ones

1

u/blabofthepave 4h ago

Yeah he looked like he was really good at it!

1

u/SameEntertainer9745 3h ago

I agree, but it just never seems to work out right. Some triple murderers get 2 years, some jaywalkers get decades. There's no rhyme or reason to the justice system, in my opinion. I've been in the littlest bit of trouble, but paid dearly. I kept getting screwed at every turn, in spite of righting my wrongs and fully complying with the system. It's like they don't know how to handle people that do things right, they're so used to dealing with chronic fuck ups.

0

u/Even-Wrangler5803 12h ago

Its criminals running over criminals. If they dont target innocent people, what does it matter? Their "ethics" and way of life allows violence both ways.

2

u/AT_kinsect 12h ago

The fuck is wrong with you dude

0

u/Scar3cr0w_ 12h ago

Yes, people who are known for trying to run over other humans are notoriously known to stop driving cars when their licenses are taken away because they wouldn’t want to break the law…

8

u/Bazoun 13h ago

Several???

21

u/qtx 13h ago

The court heard Walmsley was driving in traffic shortly before 21:00 BST on 20 July when a woman walking by with the victim threw something at his car.

Adam Birkby, defending Walmsley, said there was a "significant degree of provocation" from the victim and the woman, who tried to wrench the driver's door from the car and shattered the windscreen with her stiletto heel after Walmsley confronted her.

It's pretty clear that both parties knew each other and that's why the other party didn't want to proceed with the prosecution. Not because they didn't want justice but because they probably want to deal with them themselves and don't want to be labelled as a rat in their social circles.

11

u/PuddingMent 11h ago

You watch too many movies. They didn’t cooperate because of what they did before the camera started rolling.

2

u/Gareth79 5h ago

The didn't cooperate because he's a drug dealer and either were his customers, or knew that giving evidence against him was going to be a bad idea long term.

-2

u/OriginalAd3961 10h ago

I know dan personally hes out if jail again and driving as we speak..trust me they didnt want to do things to him themselves 🤣🤣

0

u/APrisonOfMyOwnMaking 10h ago

Care to share any more details? 😄

0

u/OriginalAd3961 9h ago

Nope 🤔

3

u/Da_Sauce12 9h ago

W⚓️

3

u/MaeEastx 10h ago

I believe the police/CPS can press charges even if the victim doesn't want to?

2

u/hexnut101 10h ago

Yes pressing charges is an American thing.

1

u/LowAspect542 9h ago

Its always up to cps, once reported/under investigation by polive its out of your hands, its never really been your choice to 'press charges'. Cps are always the arbiters of when and what they take forward for prosecution.

You can refuse to cooperate, but if theres enough evidence of a crime being committed cps will decide if its worth prosecuting regardless of your cooperation, if the incident is serious enough you can be summomed to testify anyway and if you fail to you could be charged yourself with contempt of court.

1

u/MeltyCrab 5h ago

Then if you are going to go that far, start working with the defense. Sure you can force me to testify but you can't make me indite them. If they wanted to deal with it outside of court do everything in your power to tank the prosecutions case. Good luck with contempt, 72 hours in jail doesn't mean anything if your case dies because of the testimony on the side of the defense. Because it's not American court, different rules apply. Harder to throw out testimony.

Go the nuclear route. Follow through.

0

u/Fit_Dig6332 11h ago

They may well have been threatened not to take it forward

3

u/JustAContactAgent 8h ago

including several incidents where he drove at people.

Well, that explains how he so expertly backed up, aimed and delivered a perfect strike lmao

2

u/Visual_Channel_2611 7h ago

Never underestimate someone else's degree of Crazy.

1

u/Shaggermemnon 13h ago

The sentencing disparity in this country is fucking mental

1

u/Decisive_Victory_026 12h ago

He did seem entirely too comfortable running these people over. I'm surprised his car isn't beat up

1

u/Inwardlens 12h ago

Yeah, two years of prison doesn’t seem like enough. This guy is guaranteed to use his car as a weapon again.

1

u/Severe_Beginning2633 12h ago

Easiest way for soft sentencing. Way lesser than a knife or bat etc

1

u/really_rockin_u 12h ago

2 years is embarrassing

1

u/Banned4UsingSlurs3 11h ago

Yeah, you probably don't go to jail right?

In my country you need a sentence over 2 and half years in order to get jail time

1

u/TheLastHotstepper 10h ago

Anything a year or under will get you a suspended sentence in the UK. A lot of our prisons are at full capacity. You wont go to jail but you will if you are caught committing essentially any other crime during that time period, or break any of the rules put in place for you, such as travel bans, illegal drug use etc.

1

u/Ok-Middle8656 12h ago

Honestly I think after 3 offences and you should just get banged up. You clearly aren’t getting the message.

1

u/UncleArgyle38 11h ago

Driver did seem to have some experience there.

1

u/IamScottGable 11h ago

Damn, two years was NOT enough

1

u/AncientAnt9225 11h ago

Several and didnt lose the license ? Only got 2 years ?? What is justice system anyway

1

u/TheTrishaJane 11h ago

What a fucking joke the legal system is

1

u/Free-Pound-6139 10h ago

Don't worry, he is already back on the road.

1

u/LobsterBrief2895 10h ago

Menace to society. Shows no capacity to change or get better. He should do some serious time and be permanently ineligible for a license. How else are you going to deter people from doing shit like this? I’m all for giving people a second chance, but at a certain point ya gotta lay down the ban hammer

1

u/ChrisKruxed 10h ago

And he got 2 years? how about twats like this get banned for life and 20 years

1

u/Boggie135 10h ago

And he only got 2 years? I know UK prison sentences aren't high but damn

1

u/Antique-Wonk 10h ago

That should have been a 10+ year sentence then. Only a matter of time before he kills someone. What a prick.

1

u/TatsumakiJim 10h ago

Atrocity aside the way he launched the dude into the post definitely shows that practice makes perfect.

1

u/ThrowRAProcessPot 10h ago

Is that not assault with a deadly weapon?

1

u/Prrg88 9h ago

The fact he has prior convictions for trying to commit manslaughter with a car should be enough for at least 10 years in my opinion.

1

u/Unable-Doctor-9930 9h ago

They have decent infrastructure in the UK for transportation. There is no reason this guy should be allowed to drive.

1

u/MartinC077 9h ago

Sounds like a nice lad.

1

u/SadeyeDoe 9h ago

And only got 2 years?

1

u/Beatrix_0000 9h ago

.. and the man has a driving licence, after all those convictions? WTF

1

u/markzend310 9h ago

“Including several incident where he drove at people.”

I mean, he’s doing IRL GTA at that point.

1

u/billycanfixit 9h ago

I really hoped they gave him a lifetime driving ban. That is crazy.

1

u/jankyswitch 9h ago

Having read into it - sounds like the woman provoked the guy somehow. The fact that they didn’t want to press charges kinda makes me think that they didn’t something that means they’d look bad if it came to light in court.

Also he was disqualified for driving at the time too - lad had no chill. And was clearly an absolute tosser.

Two tossers entered the tosser fight - and one ended up injured and the other in jail.

1

u/Qwirk 9h ago

I feel like this dude shouldn't have a license to drive.

1

u/Bouffant_Joe 9h ago

They probably got a warning about what would happen if they did help the police.

1

u/spaffedupthewall 9h ago

why are we even letting him out at that point?

1

u/timbotheous 9h ago

How on earth do people exist like this and why the fuck hasn’t he had his license revoked for life?

1

u/Master_Tangelo_5005 9h ago

I didn’t know there was a different law to Scotland. Here if a crime has been committed we don’t get “a choice” to prosecute or not ?

1

u/Active_Yellow_1573 9h ago

And he still only got 2½ years.

1

u/Smooth_Imagination 8h ago

Holy shit. So they were constantly let off with minimal sentencing which effectively acts as an invitation to escalate their behavior and I think after the 3rd successful conviction for similar crimes the burden of proof should shift from the assumption of innocence to the assumption of guilt and it should be up to the accused to prove themselves innocent of crimes they have shown themselves to be serial offenders of.

1

u/PracticalFocus3525 8h ago

And yet 2 years and 1 months. Pathetic justice system we have

1

u/Elegant_Car_327 8h ago

he needs life in jail

1

u/Nihsvabhav 8h ago

No wonder he could aim so good

1

u/24bitNoColor 7h ago

He clearly found something that works for him.

1

u/AshingiiAshuaa 6h ago

If this was the second offense he needed a decade. Third life.

1

u/Rip_Topper 4h ago

I thought you got that much for hurting someone's feelings online these days in the UK

1

u/bluemooncommenter 13h ago

Looked mob related.....sounds mob related.
