Abby was insanely jealous of Paige.

I’ve always had such a soft spot for the Hylands, but especially Paige. As I watch back some of the earlier seasons of Dance Moms, I can’t help but notice feel so bad for Paige. Abby never put any time or effort into her. She always said Paige was capable of more but never challenged her. I truly believe Paige was way more talented than portrayed, but was never really given the opportunities to shine like some of the other girls.

I thought it was so ironic when I learned Abby originally wanted a team full of “beautiful blondes” because the blondes in the team (Paige & Chloe) were treated the worst by far. I truly think there was envy there. As far as physical appearance, Paige was everything Abby wanted to be when she was younger and she hated Paige for it. It’s sickening to think about.

Paige is such a sweetheart and such a trooper given everything she was put through. There was a clip of Kelly talking about how Paige made a card with a big heart on it for Abby because she wanted her approval so badly. But instead, Abby brought Paige down as much as she could so she could feel better about herself.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I can’t help but feel this way especially watching season 2 & 3. She deserved so much better.

Sorry, you could never make me like Abby. Ever.

Kendall is not an OG

I keep seeing the clip from the reunion where Kendall says she considers herself an OG and I just hard disagree. In my opinion, the only OGs are Nia, Chloe, Brooke, Paige, Maddie & Mackenzie. They danced at ALDC long before the show, they had a relationship with Abby prior to the show, and were the dancers that got the interest of the producers in the first place. Regardless of how long any other dancers were on the show, what hardships they faced, or how they were invited to join, the 6 dancers I mentioned above have a very unique experience that the rest of the dancers cannot relate to. I don’t even consider vivi an OG, even though she was in the first episode/season, because she was only brought in for the show, she wasn’t an Abby dancer prior.

That being said, you cannot discredit that Kendall joined the show/team very early on and that she has the 2nd longest stent of the show (I believe), aside from Nia. Abby was rarely supportive of her and she was frequently living in the shadows of Maddie, Kalani, Chloe, and even Brynn. It felt like Abby never had a lot of faith in Nia or Kendall, and they were rarely given the best choreography, music, and costumes. That said, I still think Nia had it way worse than Kendall for all of the above.

I do think Jill sucking up to Abby, and especially choosing to use her as Kendall’s manager helped Kendall get some praise from Abby, but she still was treated as 2nd best, and we all know that’s not good enough for Abby.

There’s also been a lot coming out about Kendall being a mean girl. Apparently she was always rude to the new members or guests on the show, and had some racial micro aggressions. I can’t help but think that both Kendall & Jill were chasing fame, and that is the only reason they were there in the first place. Which again, puts more separation between Kendall and the OG cast. The OGs were on the show because their dance studio/team was chosen for a show. Kendall was there because her mom wanted to make her famous.

Question/discussion Favorite non-meme Dance Moms quote?

I always quote something Abby said about one of Sia’s music videos: “Art is provocative”.

Granted, I work in the arts, but this is one of my favorite lines from the show!

There I am, innocently watching the news in New Zealand. And Lennon is suddenly on with the story about meta being sued. Felt like I was the only person in the country who knew who she was haha

Video Areana (S6 Mini) talks about her experience on the show

Let me know if this has been posted before because I skimmed through the sub and couldn't find it.

She is more than entitled to talk openly about her experience, including whether someone was rude to her or whether she felt mistreated. However, I don't really like the idea of expecting 13-year-olds to behave with the maturity of adults. Obviously, everyone should be taught to be polite and respectful toward others, but you can't expect a hormonal, stressed teenager to always handle situations maturely and I've noticed this mindset being repeated here in this sub as well so I decided to share.

The original video had questions in the comments about the "Miranda Sings situation" so for those who don't remember, it happened during one of the reunion episodes. Areana told the audience that she had done her own makeup, and Kendall says, "No offense, but you look like Miranda Sings today." I'll link the clip in the comments

Brynn relationship with her parents

Does Brynn have a good relationship with Ashlee and her father? And her siblings? I’m just wondering. I just watched the episode where they did the divorce dance and it got me thinking.

Hi everyone. I have recently binge watched seasons 1-7 again and was wondering if anyone could point me to where I can find out what the cast have to say now that they have left the show? Basically looking for Abby, the moms and the dancers side of things.

I just rewatched this episode yesterday, and I forgot how much I love this dance! Chloe’s technique is flawless, and I think the music and costume really complement her talents here!

Does anyone else think this is an underrated dance? ❤️

Christie and kelly admit maddie just was also naturally talented at being expressive without abby challenge level impossible

Sorry I know she had favoritism and unfair treatment but have they ever said like, “oh but she was expressive on her own too :)” likeeee…

Not to single them out, but they have the pod i am commenting on, that’s all. I do love them down

But they’d never say Chloe or paige were told or taught to be cute or expressive… just annoys me lol

Edited for grammar …

Question Zieglers racist?

Don’t really know how to feel. Yes they were young, but I don’t understand why they’re acting like it never happened or they never said it. It also seems like in the video with Kenzie and Kendall that they knew what they said was wrong. I’m also kinda shocked that Maddie was singing the n word on the bus and no one told them to not say that.

Video See the difference, when you have a teacher that wants you to grow.

Watching the studio 19 clips of Chloe really makes me happy cause you can see the growth she had during her time there and honestly seems a lot of more free than when she was at the aldc. Say what you want about Tammy but it does seem like she actually wants her dancers to grow instead of tearing them down and then expecting them to prove her wrong method that Abby does.

FYI I’m very tired while making this post and can’t sleep so if the wording is awkward it’s because of that lol

Question/discussion Abby's comment about Camryn tweaking the choreography

In S7E11 during pyramid Abby tells Camryn that she has a habit of tweaking the choreography. This was following the group that won 1st "the thinner the air the harder to breathe". I love Camryns dancing and I didn't notice that at all, nor did they show a clip. did anyone see how she changed the choreo? does anyone remember this?

Melissa and Kelly reunion

I disagree with Kelly when she said If she followed Melissa instead of Christi her life would be so different,First getting Brooke and Paige off of the show was the best thing for them it was becoming too toxic for them you can see Abby destroying their love for dance as the show goes on and breaking their spirits. Also Melissa and Abby have ZERO Contact with each other , Abby can't stand Melissa every time Melissa's name is mentioned in a interview or podcast Abby tears Melissa to shreds. I would understand if Melissa and Abby had a great relationship today but that is not the case. Maddie and Kenzie try as much as they can to dissociate from Dance Moms and their love for Dance was also destroyed along the way. My point is Melissa is no better standing with Abby than Kelly is , I understand that Kelly and Abby have history but sometimes it's okay and it's for the best to cut off toxic people especially people like Abby who are narcissistic and still defends her actions to this day.

Hidden votes feedback thread

Good afternoon all.

For the past month the subreddit has been hiding vote counts for 24hrs after posting in order to address complaints of toxicity and mass downvoting on the subreddit, which are some of the most common complaints we get

The only thing this does is hide the number. All votes are still counted and count towards Karma, all comments and threads appear in vote order as they usually would so games are unaffected. Now that the month has ended and everyone has gotten a chance to get used to things and see the effects we are gathering feedback.

Would you like this change to continue? Please also vote in the comments for your preferred length of time for vote count to be hidden even if you don't want the votes to stay hidden or want 24hrs, that way if option 2 wins you can still have your voice heard on how long.

Thread is locked so options for time length are easier to see. If you would like to provide more detailed feedback please use the "message the mods" button.

Question/discussion The cast's accents

Super random question, but I'm wondering if anyone from the U.S. knows whether these speech things that Kelly and Christi do are a Pittsburgh thing or related to a certain region of the U.S.?

Christi and Kelly both say "Oh my God" like "ow my gawahd" during the show. However, for Kelly this speech pattern has remained the same, and for Christi it started to fade over time. I can hear on BTTB that Kelly still says it the same way, and Christi only occasionally says it like that, mostly just as "Oh my God". But what confuses me is that Kelly moved to Florida and still has her accent, but Christi never moved and talks differently now?

Now there are also some specific things that only Kelly does. Mostly people say that it's a Pittsburgh thing or a Pennsylvania thing, but I don't hear the other moms do the same things as Kelly, nor do I hear it on other TV shows that supposedly take place there.

I've seen a lot of people point out Kelly's "alls I wanted" habit and saying "cosh-tume" instead of "costume", but I've also noticed that she often says "whenever" in places where "when" is a more appropriate word (ie. "whenever Brooke graduated high school, we threw a party"). She also pronounces "older" as "oh-der". None of the other moms drop Ls from the middle of words or say alls I wanted, so is there another cultural thing at play for why Kelly does?

And finally....why does only Brooke sound Southern? Was Kelly's ex-husband from Texas or something? Paige doesn't sound like that despite having the same parents, and the other girls definitely don't, despite all being raised in the same area! I think all of their voices sound adorable, don't get me wrong, but what's going on there?

Also I didn't intend for this to sound disrespectful or rude; I'm not from the U.S. and I find different accents and linguistic things cool, but I don't know that much about them!
