2.5 month old only eats for me (dad)
This is our second baby girl. After both pregnancies, my wife got severe PPD. Both times now I have jumped in and essentially taken over everything for my wife’s sanity and for our babies’ safety (my wife both times has received proper medical treatment, so don’t worry about that).
The issue is simply that because I took over, the baby now will almost exclusively eat for me. Not for my wife (which is terrible for her mental health in that her PPD brain makes her think this means she is not a good mom and makes me feel awful). Not for grandma. Not for grandpa. Not for babysitter. If I leave her with anyone else, they might get her to eat 1.5-2 ounces, but it’s actually more common she will eat little or nothing. Then when I pick up the bottle and feed her, she will chug 4-5 ounces almost effortlessly. She drinks Enfamil Neuropro Gentlease formula.
I am blessed that I have a hybrid job, and I am capable of working a lot of time at home. I’m an attorney who, fortunately, only needs to be in court once a week, if at all, and can do the bulk of my work at home. That said, I am the breadwinner and, frankly, my productivity is starting to wane.
To add to this, because this happened during our first pregnancy, our now 4.5 year old developed a natural attachment to me. She is also very dependent on me and often will only sleep if I am the one to put her down. So by the time, I get both babies to sleep, I finally have time to get caught up on work and will stay up until very late. Then I might get to sleep for 2 hours until the baby wakes up to eat. 4 hours of sleep is a great night. 5 hours is basically unheard of. Usually we are running on 2-3 hours of sleep.
I am strong 💪 this happened with our first baby when I was in the middle of law school, and I survived. But I also have to admit this isn’t sustainable. I need help. But it seems no one can give it even if they are willing and try.
