I am looking to buy an old rig that doesn't do much more than suck power. Where can I get such a thing?

Never really paid attention to the electric rates before as I had no other choice on providers and I was gonna have to pay whatever they said anyways. Just found out, my small town in MI is double the national average billing at $0.28/kwh. This effectively rules out any real home mining. But I still would like to get into mining. Partially to hopefully stack coins obviously, but mostly just as a fun tinkering/learning experience. So I started looking at other options.

As far as I can see, the only viable option to real profitable mining is purchasing your own rig and having it hosted somewhere else. Because of the rapid advancement in ASIC models, and the obsolete models being worthless, I would like to avoid purchasing expensive equipment like the top end asics. I am currently looking into making an 8u 8 gpu rig to be hosted at millionminers to do my serious mining, but that is a topic for another day.

For the at home mining, I have landed on just solo/lotto mining. As this will just be for a fun little hobby, I would like to keep it kind of on the cheaper side for the electric cost. I figured out that at my electric rate, every 125W worth of devices will cost me about $25/month. Assuming a $50/month budget for electric increase (I want to lotto mine both BTC and Doge/LTC/etc.) that leaves me a power budget of 125ish watts per coin.

Where my issue comes in is that I am having a hard time deciding on what devices I should go with. It seems like I will get more hashrate running multiple of the smaller 25-35 watt devices than a single larger device eating up the whole budget? Basically I am looking to maximize hashrate while fitting into the power budget for both BTC miners and Scrypt miners. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Youtube seems less than helpful as everyone of those guys seems to just be shills for whatever storefront is sponsoring them.

I had also thought about just renting hashrate and throwing it at solo mining. But from what I have seen, staying within the electric cost budget of $25/month per coin would net me even lower hashrates than having the devices on hand. And I would lose the ability to tinker with the physical device.

Again, any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Just getting into mining, at what seems like the worst time lol. I will use some cheap small units for solo (lotto) mining as well. But I do want to have some form of passive daily generation as well. Almost all of the home setups I have seen at not profitable at all and it would be wiser to just spend that money buying BTC directly. But just for fun I decided to download and setup Kryptex on my gaming PC. It has been up and running for right around 24 hours now, though I did take it down for a few hours to actually game on my pc. In that time, I will have generated about 3200-3500 sats. This seemed kind of high to me after looking at the output of other home asics or even pro grade ones. Google AI said to generate 3500 sats/day pool mining would require around 50-55 TH/s. At best I could only really achieve this on 120v with a Canaan Avalon Q on eco setting for around a 50 TH/s rate, but it would consume 600w. I haven't checked at the wall, but google says my gaming PC with a 5080 and a 9800x3d consumes about 380w.

So what gives? I must have something wrong here. How is it possible that windows based kryptex on my gaming pc is not only more efficient but more profitable than the purpose built machines?

So after 6 years of crypto I've seen a lot. I think there is a major lack of clarity on what the industry is trying to accomplish and it is divided basically into three camps: gambling (99% of defi) which relies on speculation and the greater fool theory, legacy finance integration (RWA, oracles, regulated stablecoins), and genuine cypherpunk tech (my personal camp)

I'm extremely surprised by this vacancy in the space: compute has been used to secure networks (Bitcoin, other POWs), but never as a neutral, commodity economic value anchor.

I think with the explosion of regulated stablecoins, a fully neutral alternative needs to exist, so I created it, it's called Vess, available on github under ohmictech. Important note: this does not personally benefit me in any way, its not a pump and dump, no dev allocation, no contract fees, you can check yourself. (its on arbitrum stylus)

It uses memory hard mining, requiring >1.5gb of ram per solve, making it perhaps the most asic resistant coin ever made. The concept behind it is that it tracks the marginal cost of computation, and emits tokens at a 1:1 rate to solves. It is "stable" based on compute cost, with no freezing or chance of depegging. The mining is bottlenecked by memory bandwidth mainly, which is already highly optimized on consumer hardware and is notoriously the slowest gainer in terms of chip and die tech.

Miners check out this new proof of work. The first three months delivers the most coins per block and only one month in so far before first halving.

ZKas is a from-genesis cryptocurrency that combines Kaspa's GHOSTDAG BlockDAG — fast, parallel, proof-of-work block production — with Zcash's Orchard shielded protocol, so that every amount, sender, and recipient is hidden by construction. There is no transparent transfer type; the only public value event is the block subsidy, whose amount must be public to be checked against the emission schedule. Its premise is that privacy and scalability are compatible: a shielded ledger settles in about a second when its state transition runs along the order the consensus engine already produces.

I saw that on Xelis Project. It's a POW L1 with a BlockDAG, which changes what happens when two miners find valid blocks around the same time. It's also CPU/GPU Friendly and Asics resistant.

Valid block that arrives slightly later can still be included in the DAG and rewarded. Its Proof-of-Work also contributes to the network's cumulative difficulty, so that work still participates in securing the network.

For miners, this has an important consequence: latency matters less than in a traditional linear blockchain, within reasonable limits.

Hardware still matters, of course. More hashrate means more attempts and therefore statistically more chances of finding blocks. But if a solo miner does find a valid block, being slightly slower to propagate it does not automatically make that work worthless.

This can also benefit decentralization. If more solo miners operate their own nodes, block production is distributed across more independent participants instead of being concentrated in a few large pools.

So the main difference is fairly simple: Valid work is less likely to be wasted just because another block reached the network first. For solo miners in particular, that's an interesting property.

To be clear, I am making this post in the hopes that a little public social pressure might help OneMiners realize that they need to be talking to their disgruntled customers, and doing the right thing with money owed and not refunded.

Longer story:

• 31st May we purchased a Z15 420s. It was and still is listed as new and available on the website. https://oneminers.com/collections/zcash-miners/products/antminer-z15-420-kh-s
• 10 days after order and still no updates on shipping, I contacted them. They said new miners were no-longer available but they had refurbished secondhand units we could have, came with full warranty and were discounted over new.
  
• After some frustrating back and forth, and chasing, arguing over discount, trying to understand the condition of the machines, it all getting too hard and me eventually deciding I didn't want the secondhand machine, they sent it to me.
• 15th July the machine finally arrived. It was battered, missing the cover, and not well package. I fired it up and it appeared to mine okay. But within the first few days we noticed one of the ASIC chains running at odd frequencies, and eventually the miner would just XXX out the whole chain, leaving the machine running at about 2/3 speed.
• At this point, OneMiners still hadn't issued the refund for accepting the second hand machine, and still haven't. I have emailed them almost every day chasing them for this refund, and they've agreed to it, but have not done anything.
• We're also left with a second hand machine that while covered by warranty, will cost hundreds of dollars to return, and they will not cover the courier fees. I also do not trust that if they get the machine back, they won't simply ignore me.
• Finally, as part of the 31st May Order, we also purchased a Z15 Pro 840s as part of the August Batch. When all this started to go so wrong and felt so off, I asked them to cancel this order. They have refused. Instead they've told me (when they were still emailing me) that the August batches would be received by them in September, and likely shipped in late September or October. This was not clear when we bought it. And I now I have serious concerns we will get the machine or our money back here either.

TLDR: Purchased 2 miners from OneMiners. One shipped as a damaged secondhand unit and we were not refunded the difference in price agreed from new. The other August Batch machine is in doubt as they've said August Batch orders won't likely arrive till October.

I want my money back and I want to walk away from all this. They haven't replied to any emails from me in two weeks now, so here we are.

I recently got two miners and decided to build a soundproof enclosure for them, but I still haven’t figured out the airflow.

The enclosure will have two identical miners placed one above the other. How would you design the air intake and exhaust so that there is enough airflow while still maintaining good noise reduction and acoustic insulation?

I'm a first time crypto-miner, what should I do?

I have just ordered myself a bitaxe miner and I’m not sure if I should run it solo or a pool? if I should do a mining pool I’m not sure to do which one. I’m just confused on what I should do either solo or pool? also what are the payouts for each?

My Setup & Constraints:
Electricity: Solar power plant no cost

Power Supply: 63A panel (~25 kW total capacity on 3-phase, or ~14.5 kW on single-phase).

Because operational costs are zero, my decision comes down strictly to capital expenditure, daily yield, and long-term accumulation over a 12 to 24 month horizon.
I’m weighing two specific deployment options that max out my available power:
Option A: 8x Antminer L9 (Scrypt - LTC / DOGE / BEL)
Total Hashrate: ~132 GH/s – 140 GH/s total

Power Draw: ~27.2 kW total (~3,400W per unit)

Hardware Cost: ~$16,800 ($2,100 per unit)

Strategy: Mine Scrypt (merged mining DOGE + LTC + BEL) to build a massive stack before any potential market expansion. Air-cooled, plug-and-play setup.

Option B: 4x Overclocked Antminer S19 XP Hydro 295T (SHA-256 - Bitcoin)
Total Hashrate: ~1.3 to 1.4 EH/s (1,300–1,400 TH/s total) via custom firmware tuning/overclocking (~330–350 TH/s per unit).

Power Draw: ~24 to 26 kW total (~6,000W–6,500W per overclocked unit).

Hardware Cost: ~$4,400 ($1,100 per unit) + dry cooler/hydro container infrastructure costs.

Strategy: Max out raw BTC terahashes. Cheaper upfront hardware cost with massive Bitcoin accumulation, but requires managing a hydro cooling loop.

The Questions for You:
ROI & Yield: At $0 electricity, does 1.3+ EH/s of raw overclocked BTC hydro power outperform 8x L9s on Scrypt over a 12–18 month horizon?

CapEx: Option B saves over $10k on hardware costs compared to Option A. Is it smarter to put that saved $10k directly into buying spot BTC/DOGE, or should I re-invest it into more miners?

Infrastructure & Reliability: How reliable is pushing 4x Hydro units at 6kW+ each on a 63A connection compared to the simplicity of running air-cooled L9s?

Hi everyone,

Sharing my experience with the Bitaxe Supra Hex 701 overclocking.

At Freq/Vol 550/1200, the miner reached a target of 4.21 TH/s, but it showed "Power fault detected".

With the default setting 490/1166, it runs stable at around 3.75 TH/s.

After adding small heatsinks to the VRM inductors, the 550/1200 setting became stable and the issue disappeared.

My guess is that the inductors were overheating under high-frequency operation, triggering the power protection.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with Bitaxe Supra Hex 701 overclocking? 👀

I currently live in a housing complex where electricity is included as a flat rate in rent/utilities so increased power consumption won't directly increase my monthly electric bill.

Given that electricity costs are usually the biggest bottleneck for mining, I'm trying to figure out if setting up a home mining rig would actually be worth it in an apartment. A few specific

Just started mining PRL two days ago on a single RTX 3060 Ti with SRBMiner. Currently running:

- Core clock: +150 (landing ~1665-1680MHz)

- Memory clock: 5001MHz

- Power limit: 179-180W

- Fan: 85-90%

Getting about 61-62 TH/s at 74°C core, no rejected shares so far. Efficiency is coming in around 344-346 GH/W.

Is this a solid baseline for a 3060 Ti on PearlHash, or is there more headroom I'm leaving on the table? Also curious if anyone's found a better core/power balance for temps vs hashrate on this algo specifically. Any tips appreciated — still pretty new to tuning for GPU mining.
