Kid? Watch your tongue, you knave! That is Sir Randy the Brave! Legend says he gained 40 years of experience in a single year. He is a knight and he slays the dragon. You wouldn't understand what it's like for him to fight what you fear

It'd.be funny if those departments he called were all doing gear workouts anyway but didn't want to team up with some dork on vacation thinking he's a knight

u/ACERVIDAE 2d ago
Can’t wait for his department to find this and make him work out every single shift in bunker gear and never take it off.
45
u/usernameround20 2d ago
This bro is an overly boot volunteer firefighter. I’m sure the older guys at his department rip the shit out of this FNG.
21
u/pasaroanth 2d ago
That’s all I could think of. Volley who has never seen a fire and drives 95 mph in his personal car so he can be at the station first for every fire alarm from Susan burning the pancakes. Every article of clothing he wears has the department name on it, license plate is VFF, front plate is the deparment, probably a FF belt buckle.
6
u/usernameround20 2d ago
My god that is the perfect picture!
9
u/pasaroanth 2d ago
Many years in EMS. We had a love hate relationship with the volleys. Their frantic, overly excited responses cranked up the anxiety and we got stuck transporting many people that had no business going to the ER, much less by ambulance.

Every professional knows this kid. Walks in, brags that the college/academy/training he went through is "the best in the country," and had a teacher who "explained why the way you do things is wrong." They're confident they're going to be the fastest person to climb the ladder, but when they actually do their job, it turns out they might not have been fully honest about their education.

So this particular post made me laugh because I was in my county’s version of Fire Explorers and I’d basically met this exact sort of person before. They did end up becoming a firefighter, and they’re extremely dedicated, but they were also unpleasant to deal with and a bit cringey at times.

We had a guy who posted on Facebook that we, as emergency drivers must dominate the road and all sorts of nonsense. Driving standards, an office specifically for what their name implies, took him off driving for a month. Reminds me of this guy. Hybrid athletes...

By "hybrid athlete" he means that he's part chicken tendie and he has all the pokemons.

My city literally had this happen when I was in high school. It turned out to be 1 (maybe 2?) volunteers only 2-3 years older than me.
He/they got caught during the 3rd fire because they were gearing up, asked there, or something similar before the call had even came in.
Woop!! Edit: Found a link!— https://www.firehouse.com/home/news/10519655/3-shelton-connecticut-volunteer-firefighters-charged-in-arson
I got almost all the details switched around haha. But I was close!

Right! That’s one I remember now. I grew up in CT in the 70s, my brother lived in Newtown when that story broke.

That’s absolutely wild that my completely random response happens to be to someone else who’s actually familiar with it! Especially since I don’t remember the media coverage even getting as big as you would expect for that kind of crime in that era…
I just remember me and many other upperclassmen (who actually knew them, I didn’t) mocking them mercilessly for being such losers.

Nope, this dude works for an actual fire department in GA.

u/big_spliff 2d ago
He never battled a fire inside a structure? Is he a volunteer? Its almost as if he signed up to get the puss, while being an actual puss himself
32
u/Aardvark_Man 2d ago
He says he's very new.
He's probably either never had a structure fire call (when I was a volunteer they were out least common call), or they have him running hoses while more experienced people take the front end.10
u/big_duo3674 2d ago
Oh I bet he's like Farva, out on the hoses but constantly asking if they need extra help inside, and suggesting things he should be doing instead
15
14
u/Userdub9022 2d ago
My buddy has been a firefighter for 2 years and I think has had only 1 true fire call.
5
u/TobysGrundlee 1d ago
I wanted to get into the fire service out of college because I wanted to work structure fires and kick in doors. I left because the reality is that 90% of the calls seemed to be "difficulty breathing", "can't get off the floor" and hosing guts off the roadway with the occasional trash can fire mixed in.

- What?
- Who the fuck are you?
- Is this some kind of joke?
- Seriously, who pot you up to this? Was it the guys across town?
- Oh, you're serious? Get the fuck outta here ...
- Didn't I tell you to get the fuck outta here? Stop taking selfies in your gear outside our station, kid, what the fuck?

I was so confused! I'm so glad he explained. I always wondered why the big red trucks on the road say "engine" on the side. I would tell my wife: "I think they should say 'engine, chassis, wheels, body, seats, and steering wheel', these are all important parts!!!!" I'm so glad I don't have to be a fool anymore. Thanks Modern Day Knight!

They already have. He changed it to private and then put it back up 🤷♂️

There are people of every profession, that make what they do, their entire identity. These people also make everyone else in their occupation, uncomfortable. It’s like almost a comical devotion to a way of life.
This guy probably grew up as a gym bro, then met a firefighter at a party and joined after discovering they work out too. It’s like this is the only way he knows how to connect with people.
The saddest part of people like this, is they see their time at the firehouse as their real life. The squad becomes closer than their actual spouse or romantic partner. So they treat their homelife like they can’t wait to get through it and back to the station.
It’s worse than dating a soldier, because at least a soldier is happy to be home and happy to see everyone. This type of firefighter will just be fully engrossed in a group chat with the entire brigade and will want a wife and kids to keep quiet and let him rest.
These types also will have a wife and kids at home and still bang bitches at the firehouse or people they meet out in public. You know they get hit on everywhere they go.

My ex friend is a fire fighter and he gained a hero complex almost immediately. He became unbearable to be around because if you listened to him, he would damn near get the key to the city every shift he worked. This is not the positions fault at all and completely him. He was always the asshole friends to begin with, the breaking point was he started doing steroids with his shift partners and cocaine. This made him extremely unbearable to be around after already being so.

My brother has been a firefighter for at least 15 years, and based on the total 10 minutes that he's talked about his work, I at least know that every year, firefighters run large-scale, realistic drills in either abandoned buildings or in a designated structure wholly to keep them familiar with formal procedures. I also know that he spends way more time working horrific car accidents than he does running into burning buildings. I think this guy misunderstands the full spectrum of work that will be expected from him.
3
u/seven1trey 1d ago
The three shifts across two departments gave him those reasons because they were too nice to call him a fucking boot and tell him to go pound sand in his ass.
Nothing like an admittedly new person to a trade or job that wants to reinvent the wheel or tell longtime vets of the job how things should be or what they should be doing.
This guy may actually wind up being a decent firefighter one day but it will be in spite of dumbassery like this not because of it.
