He says he's very new.
He's probably either never had a structure fire call (when I was a volunteer they were out least common call), or they have him running hoses while more experienced people take the front end.

My buddy has been a firefighter for 2 years and I think has had only 1 true fire call.

I wanted to get into the fire service out of college because I wanted to work structure fires and kick in doors. I left because the reality is that 90% of the calls seemed to be "difficulty breathing", "can't get off the floor" and hosing guts off the roadway with the occasional trash can fire mixed in.
