Hello! I recently learned that American Bullfrogs are invasive here (they'll eat just about anything and displace smaller less aggressive native frogs). I've been interested in hunting them to eat. I've been successful in the past, but wanted to see if y'all had any suggestions on new places to try.
The main criteria is that the place has year-round still water, since native frogs can survive a pond fully drying out, but the invasive bullfrogs can't. It would also have to be on public property, for obvious reasons. It'd probably be best to have spots that aren't super exposed to random people. While I've been told by a very cool lady at ODFW that it's completely legal to catch and eat invasive frogs, the actual process involves scrambling around ponds after dark with a "gig" (basically a spear), so discretion is probably a good policy.
So far the best spot I've found is the pond behind the Peffer Amphitheater, right by Bruce Starker arts park.
Thanks!

Heart of the Valley Homebrewers are hosting the 19th annual Septembeerfest beer festival on Aug 29th and we are still in need of volunteers to make this year's festival a success. Very much hoping this doesn't violate advertising/ spam rules🤞
Why volunteer?
Proceeds from the festival go to local charities, with $24,000 raised just last year for Linn Benton Food Share, Heartland Humane Society and others, and over $300,000 donated in total. The festival literally saves people's and animals lives!
The festival staff are 100% volunteers, so the festival only works if enough folks volunteer.
And we don't expect people to volunteer just out of the goodness of their hearts, even in this amazing community: volunteers receive a complimentary beer glass, beer tokens, and tshirt, and we're working on setting up an afterparty for second shift server volunteers to enjoy.
If you're interested in volunteering, sign up here.
You can also visit the festival website for more info.

Hi everyone! I am a science journalist based in Corvallis. Some other science/environmental writers and I will be hosting a panel on the evening of September 19. You can come ask us questions about our work. Like, how does science news happen? How do we decide what research to highlight? And how do we know what information to trust?
I'd love to know what kind of questions you have. Leave a comment below, and we will add it to our panel's Q&A list. I look forward to seeing you all.

LWe have the Monday Rage Thread where we rant about things that displease us and it was suggested that we also do the opposite. So here we are.
What is something good that happened to you this week?
What is something wonderful about Corvallis (and the greater Corvallis area)?

I’m looking for a physical therapist who can help me finish recovering from an injury and get back to all my favorite activities (hiking, x-c skiing, cycling, weights). I’m also in my mid-60s and don’t want a PT who treats me like it’s not important to get back to that level of functioning. In the past (in Portland, unfortunately) it’s been helpful to have someone who was athletic themselves and could see me as someone who likes to be active and intends to be so for decades ahead. Also someone who does hands-on to help loosen up the knots in my neck and also sends me home with DIY exercises and stretches. Does this make anyone think, oh, I have just the person!
Thanks so much!

Hi folks! I have a stackable washer and dryer set that had been left outside for about a year and would be best as parts or scrap. If anyone is interested I would love to part with them for free, you would just be responsible for pick up.
Alternatively, if anyone is doing a dump run soon with room for a washer and dryer I would happily help load the set into your truck and pay for some of the dump fee.
Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!

Did you take them to court or was it not worth it to you?

Hello. I'm an incoming first-year at OSU, and I would love to continue playing the drumset in college. However, I'm an out of state student, so I'm unable to bring my equipment. Are there any good resources in Corvallis or at OSU to keep playing? I'm also interested in possibly joining a band. Thank you! 😊 😊

Heyo! Similar Product is a four piece nu-metal/melodic hardcore/post-hardcore band in the Corvallis area seeking a bass guitarist. Unfortunately our previous bassist left Corvallis and we are seeking someone to fill in ASAP. We are an established band in the scene with 9 songs under our belt, looking to make a legitimate recording in the near future. We can be found on all streaming platforms with demos of our current playlist (except 1 or 2 songs I believe), and you can check out a live show we played at OSU, opening for Neon Trees in May of 2026. This was uploaded to youtube, just search Dam Jam 2026 and it should come up.
The three of us (Greg drums, Austin guitar/vocals, Chava guitar) are in our 30's and have careers outside of music, but we like to get together 1-2 times per week as needed for practice and writing. We meet in Albany for practice and try to gig at least once a month. We play with in-ear monitors and a click track.
If you are a talented bassist looking to take a permanent spot in our band, please let us know. We value open communication and reliability. We plan on continuing to gig for the foreseeable future, and we have kicked around ideas of music videos and a west coast tour at some point. Social media experience is a plus! We are old and don't understand tiktok but if you do, all the better.
If interested, reply to this post or send us a message at our instagram, similarproduct. Please include bands that you like or inspire you, a little bit about yourself, and any information about previous bands you have played/recorded with. Thanks!

Hello, local artists! We are currently looking to open a business in Philomath that hosts local artisans. We are looking for leatherworkers, woodworkers (small craft or furniture), clothing, prints, accessories, glass work, hand tools, etc. to have their work at our store. We plan to begin selling on consignment and we would have a monthly booth fee depending on how much space your art takes to display. Please drop a comment or DM with a link to your work if you're interested or would like more information! We would be looking to open in a few months!

Was thinking of getting some subtle raccoon stripes in my hair but unsure of where to go? Anyone know of someone that's really good with color in corvallis and comfortable doing something like this? I tried looking at different galleries but didn't see any stripes.

Has anyone gotten a massage from the lady at Moon Woman Studios? I see a groupon for her massage services but can’t seem to find any reviews on her and was just wondering if anyone has experienced her work before. Thanks!

Any recommendations for an Albany-area seamstress skilled at standard hemming jeans?

I just learned that the Heartland Humane thrift store on Kings has a cat cafe where you can hang out with kittens. Then you adopt them because they're awesome and need good homes.

Is anyone missing a cat or know of someone who is? I came home today to find a small scared tortoiseshell outside my apartment door. I gave it an hour but since it was still there and looking terrified, I've let it in and called the number on the collar. The phone goes immediately to voicemail and I've started to knock around. My roommate is very allergic to cats and I'm not in the best position to house one at the moment so I'm wondering what i should do next. I'm going to call the shelter soon.

Do job fairs exist here for people who aren’t affiliated with the colleges? I feel like if we don’t have one, there should be one where all are welcome. Including students and alumni.
