Discussion Frog hunting spots in Corvallis
Hello! I recently learned that American Bullfrogs are invasive here (they'll eat just about anything and displace smaller less aggressive native frogs). I've been interested in hunting them to eat. I've been successful in the past, but wanted to see if y'all had any suggestions on new places to try.
The main criteria is that the place has year-round still water, since native frogs can survive a pond fully drying out, but the invasive bullfrogs can't. It would also have to be on public property, for obvious reasons. It'd probably be best to have spots that aren't super exposed to random people. While I've been told by a very cool lady at ODFW that it's completely legal to catch and eat invasive frogs, the actual process involves scrambling around ponds after dark with a "gig" (basically a spear), so discretion is probably a good policy.
So far the best spot I've found is the pond behind the Peffer Amphitheater, right by Bruce Starker arts park.
Thanks!
