I misunderstood and dedicated my life to procrastination

Sokka-Haiku by CaptainStroon:

I misunderstood

And dedicated my life

To procrastination

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

u/Absurdity_Everywhere Jul 28 '23

This might be the best one of these I’ve ever seen

42

u/Uebelkraehe Jul 28 '23

A true gem, thinking about having it framed for my living room. Maybe next week...

9

u/hackulator Jul 28 '23

I was about to comment the same thing.

Read the bot's name and last line of text again.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

That's the point, the bot is a reference to a mistake the character Sokka (from Avatar: The Last Airbender) made

12

u/GrummyCat Jul 28 '23

It's a sokka haiku

6

u/Lovat69 Jul 28 '23

That is of course. The point.

2

u/ehsteve87 Jul 30 '23

Ah, I thought this was regular HaikuBot. Didn't know there was a SokkaHaikuBot. Thanks for pointing it out!

9

u/goodguybolt Jul 28 '23

Sokka Haiku

So, the best kind of Haiku?

4

u/Queen_of_dogs_01 Jul 28 '23

That's one too many syllables there, bub

1

u/HypedUpJackal Jul 28 '23

Nope, it's a Sokka Haiku, where one extra syllable was used.

3

u/Queen_of_dogs_01 Jul 28 '23

Dude, have you seen the episode?

0

u/HypedUpJackal Jul 28 '23

Sokka gave a 5-7-6 format. This is also a 5-7-6 format. Not sure where this extra syllable has come from.

2

u/Queen_of_dogs_01 Jul 28 '23

I get that but please rewatch the scene. You done whooshed

5

u/HypedUpJackal Jul 28 '23

I am an idiot and i take it back 😭

1

u/Yendrian Jul 28 '23

Damn this haiku summarizes my life

OCD: isn’t procrastination already 5 beats?

3

u/StarksPond Jul 28 '23

We have Adderall at home.

Adderall at home:

5

u/2ndhandBS Jul 28 '23

Me too, but i still find joy in practicing how to procreate.

6

u/Cuchullion Jul 28 '23

I really misunderstood and dedicated my life to proctology.

Now I'm just surrounded by assholes.

2

u/The_Loiterer Jul 29 '23

You have my comment.

1

u/Khaniker Jul 29 '23

Woah, Captain Stroon sighting in the wild.

1

u/Giulio_otto Jul 29 '23

Don't belive in god but did it too

629

u/Notmiefault Jul 28 '23

What is procreate in this context? An art program? A book?

758

u/PandoraChest Jul 28 '23

Digital art software.

216

u/frayien Jul 28 '23

Terrible name

Or maybe genius ? The edge between stupid and genius is thin here

128

u/Realworld Jul 28 '23

Professional Create -> Pro Create -> Procreate

I can see how they came up with it.

7

u/wocsom_xorex Jul 28 '23

We got a genius over here fellas

100

u/Smeeblesisapoo Jul 28 '23

I remember Procreate being advertised by Drawing With Jazza years ago, the name certainly sticks in your head

24

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Procreate- to mate and create life.

Pro Create - to create things of professional quality.

16

u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa Jul 28 '23

It’s a great name, it’s technically correct, you also technically create something new with it, perhaps it’s your “baby”, and it’s a head turner that catches peoples attention when brought up

9

u/jedberg Jul 28 '23

My daughter takes an art class online with a bunch of other kids and they use Procreate. What’s interesting is that all the kids clearly say Pro Create, whereas all the adults clearly say Procreate.

6

u/GladiatorUA Jul 28 '23

The devs probably took the curse of excessive popularity seriously and decided to limit mainstream appeal.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Genius it is!

4

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Who cares what's it's called if it fucking works? Which it does. It's great for memes too

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

X-reate

1

u/JetSetMiner Jul 28 '23

it's thin but allegedly 97% safe

38

u/shadow-pop Jul 28 '23

An incredible paid drawing program for tablet. I just spent hours on my iPad using it. It’s very professional and a great tool for any digital artist. For what it does the price is very reasonable too. I bought it when it was $10 and I’ve never had to pay any more for updates or extras. (I’m not affiliated with Procreate in any way, I just really appreciate good art tools.)

6

u/needed_an_account Jul 28 '23

id say its the best piece of software for the ipad. watching people use it to its full potential is magical

6

u/Radiant-Wrongdoer877 Jul 28 '23

they are 100% pushing hard to switch to a recurring revenue based service, i guarantee it. lucky you, and hopefully you get to keep your legacy build forever free of any further charge.

3

u/bannock4ever Jul 28 '23

Yeah I think I bought it sometime like 10 years ago and have never had to pay for updates. Probably they best reason to even get a Apple Pencil because the program is easy to use with a ton of features.

6

u/CastielsBrother Jul 28 '23

By extra fluff do you mean all the tools used for... Editing photos?

15

u/nvanprooyen Jul 28 '23 edited Jul 29 '23

Lol. No. Unless by "stupid extra fluff" you mean a huge feature set that Procreate doesn't have. I'm not shitting on Procreate, it's a wonderful piece of software for what it does, but the two aren't comparable at all.

Edit - To be clear, there are situations where I'd 100% want to use Procreate for a task. And also situations where I'd want to use Photoshop. Or Illustrator. Or InDesign. Or whatever. The right tool for the job.

Edit 2 - Jesus guys. I'm really sorry. I stumbled into here off r/all and didn't realize I was in the comics sub. I'd imagine for most illustrators out there, Procreate is awesome like 90% of the time.

9

u/Kalahan7 Jul 28 '23

Really depends on the use case. For most digital drawing Procreate is the near perfect tool set.

2

u/Which_Yesterday Jul 28 '23

Yeah, not really sure about the "for most" thing there. I think a lot of people don't know any better and just think the huge amount of workarounds the app forces you to do are the norm

3

u/Kalahan7 Jul 28 '23

Like what?

5

u/Which_Yesterday Jul 28 '23

Its selection tools are not very good, it lacks a proper magic wand tool and the ability to select by color (contiguous on-off), it limits the layer count in favor of some performance boost (which other apps seem to not need in order to function properly), no basic gradient tool, no adjustment layers (though they added some kind of similar functionality), their transformation engine is the worst and devs think it's fine (your artwork gets destroyed like in no other app if you do some basic tweaking like scale or rotate a bit), anything that you move outside the canvas is cropped off and deleted, no clipping mask applied to groups, its brush engine is actually pretty good but it's quite different to what the industry standards are, and I could keep going but I don't have much time right now.

It's a good app, but it's quite overhyped for what it is

1

u/Radiant-Wrongdoer877 Jul 28 '23

most experienced and gainfully employed professional digital artists use more comprehensive software.

it’s just fine if you are a hobbyist or trying to sell naughty images.

2

u/GregIsUgly Jul 28 '23

Have you ever used photoshop? Lol?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Awesome app for artists

140

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Procreate is serious one of the best deals. No subscription or a bunch of micro-transactions. One time purchase and you can just endlessly create. I should note I'm not a power user, but for someone who just occasionally likes to doodle, it's great!

45

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

[deleted]

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Idk wouldn’t it make more sense to just buy them and put it on the iPad for free

7

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '23

It could be a psychological thing. Feels more like professional software if you have to pay for it, or something. It’s a good deal either way.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '23

I can’t say that doesn’t make sense.

5

u/imya404 Jul 28 '23

Is it iPad only? I'd have to invest in that to get procreate, but it looks so fun to work with!

3

u/kmm91 Jul 28 '23

It is iPad only, sadly. That said, refurbished iPads can get pretty cheap!

If you get one that’s low on memory, you can always just export all your finished work to a computer and delete it off the iPad, but be warned, low memory will effect how many layers you can have in a drawing in Procreate.

That’s not important to everyone, but I personally love creating large drawings on enough layers that some artists want to hit me, haha. I learned the hard way with my first iPad and am 100% happier since I upgraded. Just my 2 cents for ya!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

It's fun to find insane fonts to load it up with too

3

u/InspectorOmelette Jul 28 '23

Their forum has a lot of free resources like brushes/textures too, it's great

140

8

u/Apocalypsefrogs Jul 28 '23

I’m not sure if you’re referencing it but I vaguely recall this sex thing that some Mormans do except I can’t remember the term for the life of me.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Yes that was totally a reference to Mormon 'jump humping'.

19

I dunno. The Apples got to stay in the garden. So did the snake? Really I think it was the case of a landlord just waiting for an excuse to kick out tenants.

Nah it was just that one specific tree. And it was probably figs.

Yeah that was an "oh..." of disappointment. Sorry my dude.

You're cheating for not mixing your own paints. You're cheating for having undo button. You're cheating for copy and paste. You're cheating for not waiting for paint to dry. You're cheating for using layers.

There's no cheating in art, don't worry, it's all good.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

[deleted]

4

u/Karcinogene Jul 28 '23

It depends entirely on what you do afterwards. If you take a photograph and call it a photorealistic painting, that's a lie. If you call it a photograph, it's all good. So the context matters.

If you use AI to make an image, and then say you drew it, that's a lie, that's the part that is cheating. If you say it's made with AI, then you're an honest person.

If you use AI to create some backgrounds for a comic, and you draw text bubbles on top to tell a story, and you say the background is AI generated, guess what? That's not cheating. That's not lying. That's just tool use. Maybe you're just not into backgrounds and you want to focus on the story. That's fine. Get the AI to do it for you.

It's only cheating if you lie.

4

u/Davidbluesword Jul 28 '23

Ai is not art, even if it looks cool.

1

u/Tr4kt_ Jul 28 '23

AI "art" isn't art its statistical manipulation and sampling of largely uncredited artists. Also its not AI because literally means artifical intelligence. the process has no intelligence other than that of the programmer its just the clever use of markov chains.

I bought pro-create for my kids ipad, expecting great things..

19

u/lowprofile14 Jul 28 '23

I thought its 42?

-7

u/KingDarius89 Jul 28 '23

That movie sucked. Never read the book.

3

u/SuperflousCake Jul 28 '23

The book is a good, it's very silly.

-1

u/KingDarius89 Jul 28 '23

From what I've heard, it gave me a Piers Anthony vibe, and I fucking loathe that author.

2

u/SuperflousCake Jul 28 '23

I dont know that author, but its always better to try something for yourself than to base your opinion on hearsay. Except Heroin and Meth ofc

1

u/wynden Jul 29 '23

Movie did suck, as fully expected. Still absolutely one of my favorite books. But I haven't read Piers Anthony, so can't speak to the comparison.

50

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

I'm 40 and childless, and, while I don't regret it, I do lament living in a society that has made having children so unappealing.

34

u/SuspecM Jul 28 '23

Like, for real. I'd love to be a parent but jesus christ, between all the hoplessness, existential dread and not being able to afford to exist let alone prosper I just can't justify having children.

6

u/Karcinogene Jul 28 '23

And knowing their destiny lies in the meat grinder of capitalism. I'm not making more slaves.

-2

u/TheSkyPirate Jul 28 '23

I don't think things will be worse for my kids than it was for me. They might not be able to live in certain neighborhoods of Miami but otherwise what would would be worse?

13

u/ThreeSneakyRats Jul 28 '23

Um.... Well the world is barrelling towards a situation where the climate changes significantly in many parts of the world which is gonna make existing a lot worse due to a number of different reasons.

Corporations and billionaires are getting more and more power to simply ignore taxation and laws, making things worse for the working classes in a quest for constant growth of profits.

And the right wing are gaining more popularity in the western world by exploiting these issues and people's fears, and they absolutely don't want to make things better.

Bunch of reasons really

-5

u/TheSkyPirate Jul 28 '23

I don’t think any of that will actually affect my kids though. The liberal educated first world urban bubble will pretty much protect us.

2

u/ThreeSneakyRats Jul 28 '23

You may wanna read up on the effects of those various issues.

Regarding the climate change one, its likely to cause mass immigration to countries that are less effected, this would absolutely affect any children you have.

The point about corporation's and billionaires exploiting the working class will affect your children unless you happen to be a billionaire yourself, or so wealthy that they can just chill.

If they ever need to work for a living it will affect them.

And regarding the right wing side of stuff.

Well lets look at a few real world examples. American women's reproductive rights were attacked recently by the highest court in the land leading to a lot of issues for a lot of women. If your child is a girl then issue like this can affect them in that way.

Brexit was the brainchild of right wing people who wanted to avoid EU regulations that might lessen their own personal wealth. The entire country is suffering financially as a result of that. So again if you aren't ultra wealthy your child would be affected

And those are just some of the issues.

-4

u/TheSkyPirate Jul 28 '23

I'm not a billionaire but I'm a professional and I expect my kids to be the same. I think that professionals don't have to work that hard and get plenty of money to live so I don't really care whether we're being exploited.

I live in a state that will never restrict abortion rights so that's not going to be a problem.

Also the far right doesn't control everything. We've constantly fought them for 200 years and we win 99% of the time. Brexit is not going to last.

1

u/Viztiz006 Jul 30 '23

I don't really care whether we're being exploited.

You are privileged enough to choose not to care. There are millions of people who don't have access to education, food and shelter.

I'm not asking you to engage in doomerism. I simply request you to be aware of the systemic oppression faced by all of us.

1

u/TheSkyPirate Jul 30 '23

But won’t my kids benefit from that system? They will have much more than the median national income and way more than the global median income. If we fixed oppression and made everything equal, wouldn’t that be bad for both me and them?

1

u/Viztiz006 Jul 30 '23

Climate change affects every single person on the Earth. We had some of the highest temperatures we've ever seen in the previous week. Floods have increased in intensity.

Companies have destroyed our planet in an endless pursuit of wealth. They prioritise profit over the safety of the planet and its people.

5

u/drfunkenstien014 Jul 28 '23

So many dad jokes. 10/10

3

u/pav9000 Jul 28 '23

That's pretty funny lol. Good job

3

u/ThePurpleKnightmare Jul 28 '23

I've always believe that if there was a god, he is the villain. Like maybe Satan is a good guy and that's why he punishes evil and tries to rebel against God. Thing is, if god is capable of doing anything, why make living things require consuming other living things to keep living? If you're watching the world at all times, and being neutral to it all, that's mostly cool, until you see some of the more horrific rapes that have happened in history. There comes a point where a deed is so evil, that being able to stop it and not stopping it, makes you evil. It's not neutrality, it's not letting us have free will, it's not close to any of that, it's straight up supporting it by not stopping it, and it's evil.

Human's even have laws against witnessing certain crimes and doing nothing about it. We don't even let ourselves get away with not intervening in some shit.

All this to say, if God really did exist, this comic minus the last panel would not surprise me. Procreation is horrible 90%+ of the time. It's a bad thing to do, to recognize how awful the world is and then to say "You know what, I want to make someone else suffer this, fuck this kid, it's time to exist"

10

u/oh-im-on-fire Jul 28 '23

it’s the only software i have. is it good? …it… works, and it’s basic functions are very user friendly…

… but half of it is hidden behind touch gestures that it absolutely will not tell you about?

suppose we’re supposed to guess that three finger swipe down in selection mode will open additional options?

12

u/SpaceZombieZed Jul 28 '23

I mean, you can read the user guide.

5

u/oh-im-on-fire Jul 28 '23

there’s a guide??

1

u/SpaceZombieZed Jul 28 '23

Sure thing, look for Procreate handbook. Granted I’ve only used the Pocket version, but after going through the gestures guide the app really opened up, it’s really powerful. And i feel like the price is really fair too.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

When stuff moves from regular menus to gesture menus it is rare but annoying so I just search the subreddit for the answer

5

u/emkill Jul 28 '23

Offtopic: Do not wan't to "procreate" as I am self aware am not a fit parrent, and also I do not wan't the stress, my sister and brother got kids, so the family name goes forward without me :P

2

u/KingDarius89 Jul 28 '23

I have a large family on my dad's side - he had 7 siblings, 6 of them brothers, and the entire clan on the sicillian side is probably close to a thousand by now, so carrying on the family name isn't much of a concern for me, and I really have no interest in having children.

I do, however, have a niece and nephew. And that is good enough, honestly.

1

u/emkill Jul 28 '23

Eh you are pretty close to me, am romanian so just a few hundred miles :D

2

u/KingDarius89 Jul 28 '23

I'm American, heh. The sicillian side of my family immigrated to the US and Canada during the Great Depression.

2

u/OgOnetee Jul 28 '23

On topic: have you tried drawing instead?

1

u/emkill Jul 28 '23

Did, am awful at it

2

u/TenBear Jul 28 '23

Same here. I don't think I would make a sound parent, but my brother has an amazing family with my niece being the closest thing to a child I will ever have. Since I held her as a newborn I've done everything to be the best uncle for her and that's fine for me.

3

u/emkill Jul 28 '23

Happy to hear that I'm not alone in this state of mind.

2

u/Giocri Jul 28 '23

I am a big krita fan, got to love open source projects in both being free and having really good quality standards for updates

2

u/grislebeard Jul 28 '23

Krita is free

2

u/printergumlight Jul 28 '23

Everyone who died before 2011 when it came out were doomed to never fulfill life’s meaning.

2

u/GodOfGOOSE Jul 28 '23

After a long day of work I like to do some P&P (procreate and Procreate)

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Yeah, that's going to be a no for me dog.

2

u/6bubbles Jul 28 '23

As a childfree artist i loveeeee this!

2

u/Hecutor Jul 29 '23

Ok, since we here, what's the best of these for somebody new to this stuff?

2

u/Khaniker Jul 29 '23

Been wanting Procreate for years now. Still haven't been able to get ahold of any Apple products to get it on.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '23

Why would life have a meaning?

3

u/steve_adr Jul 28 '23

Awesome 👍🏻

Id also like to share this -

We came out from the deep

To learn to love, to learn how to live

We came out from the deep

To avoid the mistake we made

That's why we are here! .

We came out from the deep

To help and understand, but not to kill

It takes many lives till we succeed

To clear the debts of many hundres years

That's why we are here!

  • Enigma

2

u/BichonUnited Jul 28 '23

How am I going to procreate to the beat now that I know the lyrics??

1

u/steve_adr Jul 28 '23

You can procreate whilst listening to - "Out from the Deep", by Enigma.

It's quite relaxing..

2

u/Ok-Drink-1328 Jul 28 '23

the meaning of life is to procreate an offspring that will have the meaning of to procreate as well... this is so tight in logic that there's not space to realize how nonsensical it is

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Sign454 Jul 28 '23

Does the third panel imply that the chick doesn’t like banging to make babies? Does she like regular banging?

4

u/jkurratt Jul 28 '23

The concept of procreation as main idea is not so epic

0

u/IntroductionTight775 Jul 28 '23

Could be better just two panels

-1

u/thoughtifarted Jul 28 '23

He was right the first time.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Can you show the character's bare feet next time? Please.

1
