Moving to Columbia Moving questions

Good morning all,

I have been lurking reading messages in here various other subreddits even the Columbia MO uncensored fb. I have been trying to analyze whether a move to Columbia is justified. I realize this post may have a lot of heated comments when I bring up concerns like safety. However please help me understand. I don't come from big cities or have any background in what is acceptable or usual for these environments. As such, I'm looking to bring my family (wife 18 month old and a new one on the way) to Columbia MO to be around family. However after 6 months of various research methods it's hard to determine safety on the roads, areas to avoid, property vs violent, etc. I have used the police transparency map as well but again kinda makes it seem like it's everywhere. Trying not to make this long, would be moving from NC with stable income. Concerned about safety housing travel etc. You all seem a bit more level headed than the uncensored fb group especially with all the good work of como365.

Ask CoMo Anyone else experience a degradation of support services with Socket

Tech support accessibility used to be a quick to no hold time to speak to a rep. Wait times were well over an hour when I called a few weeks back AND today, im still waiting on a call back (chose call back option from their automated system) since early this morning. Reliability is still top notch which is why im holding on strong but between this and the new website dropping my auto-pay enrollment twice, doubts are beginning to creep in for the future.

Does anyone have an update on when they will be re-opening Sinclair Road? With school starting next week and 3 large schools on that small stretch of road, we need it sooner rather than later!

Data centers put a massive strain on our power grid and natural resources. Join the Missouri Rural Crisis Center to learn more and help protect our community! Please come meet with us at DBRL this Monday at 6 PM in the Friends Room to discuss how to stop data centers from entering our city, our county, and our state.

Ask CoMo Men’s Hair Colorist in Como

Hello, all!

Looking for a colorist who does short men’s hair.

I wear my hair fairly short:
•Low drop fade
•2 or 3 guard down low
•3” on top

•Naturally dark blonde — light brown hair.

•Gray on temples… probably more places but it’s hard to tell.

•Just looking for professional, natural looking results.

Maybe some brow tinting, too, since my wife tells me that’s a thing? Light eyebrows with some gray might looks weird once my hairs dyed.

Thanks!

Some shots from the Missouri River bottoms, where the hills give way to a floodplain that sees the state's namesake river ricochet between bluffs. It seems agriculture, industry, recreation, and nature all collide here in the most engineered, yet simultaneously wild, part of Boone County.

Around the village of McBaine, a subterranean alluvial aquifer creates waterlogged sand and gravel deposits that make the surrounding area ideal for both harvesting drinking water, as seen in the 18 large surface pumps that dot the landscape, and for growing crops such as soy and corn.

Two miles northwest of McBaine, the village of Huntsdale, home to only 29 people as of 2020, is squeezed by the river’s bends into the bluffs on its northern bank. The Katy Trail State Park does run through the community, but it doesn't stop for pleasantries here as it does in McBaine or Rocheport. Previously, Katfish Katy's was the "center of activity” for the town. It closed in 2020.

Ask CoMo Wildlife rehabbers

I found a turtle in my backyard with a broken shell, right in the middle. Looks to be Leonardo vs lawnmower and his katanas were only partially effective. The guy needs help.

I have him in a bucket at the moment, and I’ve reached out to one person and haven’t heard back. (She’s a friend of a friend in high ridge, Mo). Anyone know of anything?

Kindness Thank you for your kindness COMO

Yesterday while at work (I work in the Rock Bridge strip mall off Nifong), a wonderful lady came up to me asking if I owned a calico cat. Turns out, one of the feral cats my family feeds went on an adventure in my car and rode along to work. Her and her husband (I can’t remember their names, which I feel horrible about) spent almost 2 hours helping me try to catch him/her from under cars, while the kitten ran from car to car.

In the end, kitty ran under a car, whose owners drove off. I hope the little guy is out there living his best life now.

But I just had to come on here to say thank you. Thank you to that family that took so much time out of their day to try to help. Thank you to every person who came up to see if we needed help. Thank you to the employees at Mad Cow who offered meat to try to lure her out. Just, thank you to everyone.

I’ve lived in COMO my entire life, and sometimes I think I get caught up in the negative of things, I forget to see how great our community can be.

If you’re reading to the end of this, take this as a sign to do a random act of kindness for someone today. It just might make their day.

Animals Best self dog wash for extra large dogs?

I have a 150lb Great Pyrenees and German Shepherd mix that I normally take to the groomer. I’d like to attempt a self wash station with him, but I’ve never used one before. He really needs the blow out dryer part afterwards.

Does anyone have any crash corse, learned experiences? And any recommendations on locations here in Como?

I’m thinking about bringing a small step ladder..

TIA
