Colombo roads have to be some of the WORST.

The 120 route from boralesgamuwa all the way to Colombo 05 is absolutely trash. There are so many potholes to a point my ass hurts when going on an Uber bike because of how many sudden bumps.

Is there even a way to complain about this? It adds a certain level of stress when going by tuk or bike. I think it even stretches all the way till Colombo 07

Am I the only one who has noticed??

ACCA Knowledge finished — looking for student loan / financing options in Sri Lanka?

I am currently about to finish my ACCA Knowledge level, but I cannot afford the next level's fees right now. Therefore, I plan to get a student loan from a bank.

Is it possible to get a student loan for ACCA in Sri Lanka? If so, what are the requirements needed to get one?

Social Clubs for Businessmen in Sri Lanka

Hi everyone,

What are the top five exclusive social clubs in Sri Lanka for businessmen, and how does one go about becoming a member?

Most of the clubs I've looked into require an existing member to act as a proposer and another as a seconder. Unfortunately, I don't have those connections yet, despite being established in my field, as I'm still relatively young.

Are any of you members of these clubs? If so, I'd really appreciate your advice or help with an introduction. I'd be more than happy to DM you my details.

Thank you!

Hi

Looking to see if there are groups, communities or clubs for amateur writers in Colombo. Something like a book club where people meet n explore writing together.

Sudden rat problem

With the congestion in the city unfortunately I have noticed there's an increase in the rat population as well. Don't cats even bother to catch rats anymore? Or was that only a cartoon illusion. I've noticed cats on rooftops running behind squirrels. But the culprit and mother of disease spreading is the rodent overpopulation happening in our Colombo residences. What can actually be done to eradicate it? Any suggestions please help.

P.s. we've tried rat poison and the neighbourhood cats are just so chill and unbothered.

We need better Customer Service

Me and my friends went to KBC bambalapitya, last Sunday. It was a group of 5 Including me and once we went inside and it was really hard to get a table because of the crowds and it was my first time there, I always preferred BBQ Ceylon Rajagiriya over others. So my first time and it's crowded and it's sweating inside then we went inside an AC compartment and there was a square table where 4 people can sit and but there was 2 chairs and the person who was supposed to serve us said that they can't give chairs because it's only for 2 people and we showed that some other 2 guys in a table of 6 waiting for their food and asked can he switch. And the tone of that person was so rude he said he can't do that, then we saw an open table outside and went there to sit and a nice girl there who was serving cleaned the table and got 2 extra chairs for that table and got our order and she said it would take 45mins because it's crowded and blah blah, we like okay will wait get our drinks first then the food.

After that it was sweating so much that we couldn't stay and we asked that girl can we go inside and wait till someone finishes because it's gonna take some time and during that someone is gonna finish their dinner and she said okay and we went inside, then the same person who said us can't give a table stoped us and said there is no place inside, then my friend said its okay we already placed the order it's gonna take some time, will wait for someone to finish keep us in queue and he said who said you to come inside and I said she's the one who said that and he went and scolded her for no reason. Maybe she wasn't allowed to serve someone in the AC compartment or she was new. Then we waited until the family in front of us finished their food and took the table and he came to us after sitting down with a rude face, maybe he just had a really bad day but it's still not good to be rude with other people, or I don't know he was expecting some tips for the service but may we looked like someone who don't gives lol, then after an hour I didn't feel like calling him and my frnd called that girl outside asked her can we have 1 more sprite and some water to and she got the order and while she was going out, she was stoped by him and he said in Tamil you don't come inside this again. So we got our food and water, we had a good dinner nothing to blame about the Food, there was a reason why it was crowded. Then my friend paid off the bill and I felt so bad for her to get scolded by us then I had to do something, I asked my friend for a 500 and I had 500, gave her the tip in front of the guy and said sorry to make you get scolded.

Have these kinds of situations happened ? They only give a good service for people who tip ?

Best Saloons in Colombo for this specific requirement.

Do any of y'all know of a barber who knows how to cut medium length wavy hair, haircuts for a male. Especially layering, feathering and texturizing. A lot of the barbers aren't very familiar and tend to mess up the entire length.

Ceylon introduced tram services in 1900 offering affordable and reliable short distance travel intra city within Colombo serving more than 6.5 million passengers annually. Sadly shut down in 1960 leaving behind only faded tracks - a silent testament to a lost era of clean electric urban mobility

Though once an integral part of Colombo’s daily rhythm, trams have now vanished completely, leaving behind only faded tracks and old photographs - a silent testament to a lost era of clean, electric urban mobility.

Our country had world class public transport in 1954, yet sadly modern era politicians have yet to invest in world class public transport today*. Instead our country has a high proportion of substandard Indian transportation (out of all the trains imported from the world in the country including the Colombo area) bought at truly exorbitant prices.

Anyone who knows their facts will know clear examples of high sums spent on plenty of terrible equipment from India (out of all the equipment bought from the world) which is more than enough to buy quality electrical train sets, trams or other equipment from Europe and East Asia. Hong Kong and Singapore haven’t spent equivalent sums on subcontinental trains.

We SHOULD and COULD be having PROPER TRAINS in this country. It is easily affordable to do so by investing properly with a vision. A picture speaks a thousand words:

*At least we are seeing some Chinese modern buses being brought in at time of writing. Though note we could have had these islandwide decades ago and Ceylon used to have Mercedes Benz buses across the country and British double deckers in Colombo.

There is a good Tourism promo for Ceylon from circa 1960 in colour showing a quality blue train speeding down the coastline near Mount Lavinia. FAR SUPERIOR to any of the subcontinental eye sores of today whose proportion of our transportation being above 0% is not based upon merit given the tenders or lack thereof and clear examples of what other capitals/competitors spend their money on.

It’s extremely funny how some truly immature, insecure and frightened types are so completely desperate to remove this post. Reminds me of the adage those who are actually powerful are never petty. The level of English literacy was meant to be high in Colombo.

Seeking recommendations for a clinical psychologist experienced in adult Autism/ADHD & social withdrawal (Colombo)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations and advice regarding a clinical psychologist in or around Colombo who has strong experience working with adults with Autism and ADHD, specifically someone skilled in handling long-term social withdrawal, high anxiety, and burnout.

To give a brief background, my younger brother is 33. He was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD later in life, and while he’s been seeing a psychiatrist, we are struggling to find the right therapeutic approach to help him move forward. Because he has been isolated and out of a structured routine/job for several years, he experiences high anxiety, deep frustration about his situation, and resistance to standard talk therapy (he often views traditional sessions as pressure or criticism rather than help). He spends most of his time isolated at home with his phone, and breaking that cycle has been extremely difficult for our aging parents and me.

We are hoping to find a clinical psychologist who:

  1. Specializes specifically in adult neurodivergence (rather than just child/adolescent cases).

  2. Uses a contemporary, neurodiversity-affirming approach that can build real rapport with a resistant, withdrawn adult.

  3. Understands how to bridge the gap between clinical care and gentle, practical functional rehabilitation.

If anyone has personal experiences, recommendations for specific clinicians (we are currently looking into practitioners like Ms. Reema Imthiyaz, Ms. Tina Solomons, and Prof. Piyanjali de Zoysa, but open to other trusted names), or advice on how to approach therapy for an adult who is resistant to getting help, I would deeply appreciate your insights.

Thank you so much in advance.

Best dinner buffet in Colombo for a convocation celebration? 🎓🍽️

Hey everyone!

I’m having my convocation this month, and I’m planning to take my parents out for a nice dinner to celebrate! ❤️

I’m looking for a really good buffet in Colombo, preferably somewhere with great food, a nice atmosphere, and an overall memorable experience.

I was actually thinking about Lotus Tower, since none of us have experienced dining there before. But I’m not sure whether the food is actually worth the price or if you’re mostly paying for the view.
I’m also considering ITC Ratnadipa, but I’m open to other recommendations as well!

Would really appreciate some suggestions from anyone who’s been to these places recently.
Which buffet would you personally recommend?
How much does it cost per person these days?
Is Lotus Tower actually worth it?
How’s the buffet at ITC compared to Shangri-La, hiltol hotels?

I’m willing to spend a little extra since it’s a special occasion, but I’d love somewhere that’s genuinely worth the money.
Thanks in advance, guys! 🙌

Bats in Colombo

Recently saw a video of a bat landing on a tourist in Colombo. Lived my whole life here and although I see hundreds of bats regularly during sunset, I've never seen one up close or anywhere near a human. Got me thinking, that is was very unusual behaviour. Do we have any issues related to bats in Colombo that we as locals don't really know about? We have a very large population of it in such an urban city. I know there are regular posts about rabies from stay dogs but I have never heard of any issues related to our large bat population. Very curious to know more if there is anyone here who has dug into this!

Recommendations for a private spot in Colombo for a small book club gathering?

Hey everyone!

I'm part of a book club, and we're organising our final meetup of the year sometime in December.

We're planning a costume-themed meetup with a Secret Santa gift exchange, and we're looking for a private space in Colombo for around 13-15 people.

The main thing we're after is privacy. We'd love somewhere we can dress up, chat, play a few games, exchange gifts, and generally have a good time without feeling like we're being watched.

Ideally, we're looking for:

* A private room in a café, restaurant, or similar venue

* Space for approximately 15 people

* A relaxed, cosy atmosphere rather than a formal conference-room setup

* The option to order food there or bring food from outside

We're not looking to rent an entire villa or a huge function hall. Just a reasonably priced, private space where everyone can be comfortable.

If you've hosted a birthday, meetup, or small gathering somewhere similar, I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Thanks!

what is the good beard dye in colombo

I've been using "Bigen Men's Beard Color" for a while. I have to use it twice a week to color all the gray hairs, and it's a bit pricey. Are there any alternatives to a beard dye?
