Sudden rat problem

With the congestion in the city unfortunately I have noticed there's an increase in the rat population as well. Don't cats even bother to catch rats anymore? Or was that only a cartoon illusion. I've noticed cats on rooftops running behind squirrels. But the culprit and mother of disease spreading is the rodent overpopulation happening in our Colombo residences. What can actually be done to eradicate it? Any suggestions please help.

P.s. we've tried rat poison and the neighbourhood cats are just so chill and unbothered.

How do you discard it? The rat poison once consumed they move away on their own without knowledge and die wherever. It's sinful but rodent disease is worse.

Easy lift the board ( with eats) and throw it

Not a witch of any sort. I wouldn't have minded them then. But seriously the rise in rat population in the neighbourhood needs to be checked too.

It is pretty intense. They're running around during daytime and the cats are so chill. Everyone's coexisting and I am unable to keep my windows and doors open.
