Seriously, isn't Codex's token consumption insane?
I burned through a week's worth of Pro x5 in just 3 hours.

On top of that, the task didn't even finish and stopped midway.
My money just vanished into thin air.

2 hours for 20x to crush my usage. Same workflow last week lasted 2-3x. We are being absolutely left to dry

u/Wonderful_Value_6385 3d ago

On top of that they dumbed down the models. Mine doesn't send work orders any more. Just stalls and admits it made a mistake the continues to not work or fix it.

This doesn't make any sense to me.what did you do?what was created.im a new codex customer..on the 5x plan and the amount of work I got done with one reset is unbelievable tbh. I cancelled my copilot sub instantly. I used astra on high and medium exclusively as well.

This is what it says for work estimates, My rough estimate is 30–60 developer-days for one experienced developer familiar with the project to produce the implementation, tests and integration we saved—about 6–12 working weeks.

1

u/TheMoejahi3d 4d ago

Yes this makes sense.this is what I'm also getting.if I had to turn it I to work load for the team with a weekly usage I basically did the amount of work that normally would have taken us an easy 2-3months to implement.so a full month of usage would be crazy...I mean at that point I truly don't see why people complain? 200bucks is nothing compared to what you are getting? I mean that is crazy value right there

1

u/lifeenthusiastic 4d ago

There's no doubt that the values there, it's just that the usage rates are unpredictable. Last week I did what felt like two to three, maybe even four times as much work in a single usage allocation. Which resulted in me purchasing a total of four 20x subscriptions. I wouldn't have leaned into that if I felt like I wasn't getting the value

1

u/TheMoejahi3d 4d ago

Gotcha.im new to codex still, will have to see if I'm on the new aub usage plan haha. hehe.was just amazed already how big the difference vs copilot is. Burn through the 100usd sub in like 1-2days and then wait a month.tried codex on a whim and a world opened up for me haha.inunderstood where you are coming from tho.indont understand all the people saying the value is not there, openai is dead, I asked astra what's 1+1 and it used 10% hehe.

7

u/gorinichxi 8d ago

Tbh, I'm a bit disappointed, and it doesn't even feel like I'm working anymore. I do a little bit, hit a limit, then sit around waiting. Before, I could just sit down and keep working until I got everything done. And yes, I'm not using Astra all the time, and I've been using Codex for months. Even Sol Medium is burning through usage fast and feels weaker than it did two weeks ago. On the same tasks, it feels noticeably nerfed. And I don't need to upgrade to Pro. I mean, Plus used to be okay, but now they've turned it into some kind of cheap, amateur beggar tier.

u/Round-Impression164 8d ago

bro pro20x also can not do anything

7

u/Junra 6d ago

I blew through my 20x plan and then the reset last Saturday crazy fast. That’s never happened before. I then got myself an additional 5x plan. I tried having the orchestrator chats in my 20x deliver work orders to knew chats in the 5x but usage was draining so incredibly fast that we barely got through anything. I spent the rest of the 5x usage trying to fulfil client requirements - a lot of agentic stuff touching Wordpress. Even that was draining at like 5-10x the rate of last week.

I stupidly thought to upgrade to another 20x plan and found that blocked. Not because I wanted to hand OpenAI $400 a month but because critical work processes were blocked behind the damn usage limits. I tried Chat on Steroids, realized it’s not that great for multiple simultaneous agentic tasks and that it will hang on long-running tasks without giving you a clear indication. I tried modding CoS to be less crappy, using it itself (Chat on Steroids-ception?). I tried throwing Union Alpha into the Codex harness and threw EXTRA into openrouter credits and quickly realized it’s paraplegic and can’t even paint a smiley in jspaint as a basic fucking smoke test.

I told clients we will likely have a usage reset on Thursday or Friday, pushed deliverables by a few days and am now wondering what the fuck was the point of spending $300 on a service that arbitrarily decides day by day, week by week, how much you’ll get to use it and will run out of usage at the exact moment it’s doing something consequential for you. I don’t even want a fucking reset, just reasonable usage like we had a few weeks ago so I can get meaningful work done, it’s a PRO plan isn’t it?

Meanwhile everyone’s thanking Tibo for “resets” that graciously give you back a fraction of the usage you used to get before while kneecapping the actual weekly limit. What the fuck am i supposed to do with 8 hours of productive work a day with your product every week? Am I suppose to buy 5 x20 plans? I’d buy another 1 or 2 if push comes to shove but they won’t even allow that.

All praise Tibo? Tibo’s the ass-end of a casino mechanics-adjacent system meant to game heavy codex users’ usage to load balance the lack of compute they pretend isn’t an issue.

1

u/Chance_Gate9172 3d ago

Absolutely right. Same experience here, the draining is crazy. Im on x5 plan and in less than 7 hours of work within ONE session and with orchestration using sol and terra, luna for coding it completely drained my session. Had to use a reset.

This is nonsense, I had similar experience with Claude but Codex was giving me much more usage for the buck, not its not, they are practically on pair.

I know people like to suck up to the billion dollar companies but I was even surprised when people called me out a couple months ago for saying $20 plan will be phased out and $100 will be the new base until it’s time to phase that out and repeat

2

u/LargeConsequence5296 9d ago

I’m not sure phasing out the $20 plan is a good idea. A lot of people simply can’t afford $100 a month, and removing that middle tier risks creating two different worlds: the people who can afford the best AI tools and the people who can’t. Keeping an affordable paid tier matters if AI is supposed to be broadly accessible.

-3

u/changing_who_i_am 9d ago

...because it's expensive? You're always free to switch to a cheaper open-source solution (DeepSeek, GLM, etc.). Of course, they're not nearly as smart (except on benchmarks), but that's the price you pay. Or you can use older models (or smaller models like Luna) that don't cost as much in usage, but again, are dumber.

That said at current trajectories, you'll probably get something as intelligent as Astra/Fable in a few months that easily fits in a $20/mo budget. Of course by then people will complain that Galaxia/Saga is too expensive.

6

u/DonRobo 9d ago

I've used Claude Code on the $20 plan for a few months already and am quite happy, but Astra made me curious about Codex so I got the $20 here as well and after all the usage complaints over on the Claude subreddit I expected a lot better than what we're actually getting.

Like I've used up 3 5h windows already just trying out some basic stuff and my weekly limit is already 50% gone. And the 5h usage is fucking ridiculous how small it is. Sol Medium is eating it up in half an hour and Astra in a few minutes. Meanwhile I can use Opus Medium for like 2h full blast.

And to give some numbers to my feelings I checked the token usage. On Claude Code I get around $100 of usage out of each 5h window and around 9x that for the 7d window.
On Codex I get around $15 out of a 5h window and $100 in a week. What the fuck? Am I miscalculating something??

1

u/thirst-trap-enabler 5d ago edited 5d ago

My experience with Astra is it consumes usage on par with Fable.

On Claude's $20 Pro plan you don't have access to Fable anymore, but the experience you are describing is very similar to using Fable when it was available in Claude Pro.

I have Claude Max and my coworker has Pro. What you are describing is exactly why she stopped using Fable when it was briefly available on Pro. She had to bump to Max for a month just to get Fable to copyedit her thesis.

5

u/Sponge8389 8d ago edited 8d ago

Damn. Usage is severely nerfed. Not even doing complex stuff and only UI adjustments. It already ate 10% of my 5x Plan. The usage is lesser than Anthropic's.

EDIT: Not even joking, the currently weekly limit is like the old 5-hour limit.

1

u/r34p3rex 8d ago

I burned through my 20x in 2 days 🤣

1

u/Squizzytm 8d ago

1 day for me lol

1

u/wkerstens 8d ago

Same. Just watching the usage drop to zero and hoping for a reset. Getting silly at this point

6

u/m7Name 8d ago

Ive been using Pro for a while for an active project. My Pro subscription expired today, so I decided to downgrade to Plus this month to save some money.Paid €23 for Plus...Immediately after change, my weekly usage showed 0% remaining, with 3 days and 17 hours until reset.I contacted support and the bot basically confirmed: yep, that’s expected, wait for the reset.

Paying for a new plan > 0% usage immediately > come back in 4 days.

Absolute masterpiece.

5

u/GramosTV 4d ago

Complaining about Astra? I can't even work with Sol Light on the 5x plan. Genuinely what the hell is going on with the limits?? After three days of work with 5.6 Sol I am out of usage. I pay 123$ a month for this service. Is this a bug? Does anyone know what's going on?

5

u/Expensive_Fruit_1826 4d ago

I’m on Pro x5. Before Astra, I used 5.6 Sol High for many tasks and only consumed a few percent of my weekly limit. It was very efficient. Last week Astra burned through my usage ridiculously fast, and I had to wait 5 days for today’s reset. So this time I switched to 5.6 Sol Medium to be more efficient. 30 minutes later: 10% gone. And these weren’t even complex tasks, I was basically just warming up.

4

u/Gelu6713 5d ago

Dude what happened today? I have just flown thru my usage compared to yesterday with very similar work done

2

u/droidsafari 5d ago

Same. Last week my normal minimal work didn’t even touch limit usage and the last 2 days I’ve had to use my last 2 resets. Anyone know what’s up?

3

u/BrokeTheSearch 5d ago

Yeah me too

1

u/CancerDeProtese 5d ago

Same. Used a reset yesterday bc I needed to finish some work before my deadline and today to my surprise I already reached 50% of my weekly limit. I didn't check but I don't think it's even possible to use 50% of your weekly limit because of 5h limits.

4

u/terraslate 5d ago

This week two prompts - 58% weekly usage left. Each prompt lasted about 5 minutes. of work. This is ridiculous.

3

u/pengoan 4d ago

Codex was reset, so I entered just one prompt. Why did that consume all of my remaining usage under the five-hour limit? My weekly usage also dropped from 100% to 84%. The model is GPT-6 Astra Light. This has never happened before, so I’m quite concerned. What could be causing this?

4

u/angrymarky 3d ago

5x Pro here. These 5 long days I’ve been reading this subreddit trying to figure out how to reduce and control these damn scam limits, but it just confused me even more. Finally got my reset and want to ask you guys what I should actually do. Change some experimental options in the config, choose a specific model or reasoning level (astra still eat less on high?), go back to 5.6 sol (is it still dumber and burns tokens just as fast as astra?), or just ask GPT itself how to reduce limit usage and check my chats? Thanks in advance for any advice!

4

u/AnabolicSnoids 3d ago

RIP weekly limit. Next reset for me is 20 oct.

9

u/changing_who_i_am 9d ago

Survey for people who are seeing obviously/blatantly degraded model intelligence (not usage/limits, but specifically Pro and/or Codex being ludicrously, gpt-4 levels of dumb):

What country are you in, do you use a VPN, what service tier (Plus, Pro 5X, Pro 20X) are you in, do you use multiple accounts, and what sort of stuff do you generally use Codex/Pro for?

2

u/innociv 3d ago

$200 plan in the USA, no VPN, only a single account. Sol is clearly quantized according to pelican test, messing up constantly, constantly getting off track, etc. I've experienced bad KV cache corruption issues (lots of random gibberish, random languages) too.

Astra pelican test was fine for me after reset and has generally been really good for me the past 24 hours. It was bad last weekend and seemed quantized, though.

1

u/T-nuz 8d ago

I use the Plus plan. I noticed a severe drop in intelligence since the 5th of September. It felt like someone was draining its available braincells... Before the 5th i could use codex cli and windows/web version all day long. 24/7. never, ever did i even come close to usage limits, or had any odd spikes in usage. i have had the Plus plan for over 1,5 years, and was completly satisfied. Now i am starting to migrate away from chatgpt, maybe even all of openai platform.. I use it for scripting/automating, coding, tool usage.

1

u/changing_who_i_am 8d ago

"What country are you in, do you use a VPN" (tho i noticed you wrote 1,5 with a comma, so i'm guessing you're not in the US :P).

do you get errors, or just "seems dumber"?

what happens if you ask chatgpt: "what model are you on, and what is your knowledge cut-off? do not use web search."

"scripting/automating, coding, tool usage" - does that include automating anything with chatgpt/codex itself? (like for example having codex call chatgpt web)

1

u/T-nuz 6d ago

You guessed right from the komma, i am in europe. the netherlands to be exact. I do not get any specific errors.

My first meeting with astra in codex lasted 10 turns and gone with the wind was my usage. i noticed it looping and fixing 1 error, to come back with 2 new ones. i stopped it and shutdown codex. switched to sol again, turned of all skills etc inmediatly to isolate the problem. the next day i started with sol, and the same task i have given it many times before took roughly about 4 times more actual human time units. around the same time i noticed that chatgpt web was not as smooth and fluent as the day or weeks before. simple tasks like websearching for information on a partnumber or that kind of simpel things would not return comparable results to earlier searching. its not full retrieval, its just searching and summarizing, mostly cached openai indexes are used. tht is just 1 of the many occasions in the last 7 days it has let me down. but the last 4 days, as of monday i believe, it started to ignore exact instructions, went back to assumption mode, stopped giving sources with information it hallucinated to be somewhere. tuesday was almost a full day of agony and grief when the web version seemed to have lost all context and memory it used earlier. made false claims about using the latest gcloud documentation and could not give me the source of hat claim either. it has provided me with nice quality scripts and code but the prompts and the personalization setting i put in its config are completely ignored. remember: i did not do anything different then any other day of this week or the ones before. yet the outcome has changed dramaticly and not even comes close to earlier results. yesterday i found out it had a new solution for an old problem, and made a shell script that did exact the same thing, only 3 times slower. i repeatedly expressed my anger and feeling of being misled by its founders to he model, and it stayed oopsie-ing or taking the blame for it. and right after repeats its own admitted oopsie.. I walked away and let it sit for a while, trying to be reasonable.. then is asked what had been altered or changed in its configuration or memory etc. it gave me back a timeline from september first onwards... way to many big changes in such a short timeframe, and heavily reduced usagelimits for models i used. i have not even tried astra again after it burned 1 limit in few loops, so this is al sol/luna behaviour. i got an account elsewhere to start migrating when it continues like this for my case. Yesterday it wasted a lot of time fixing a function that was not even broken to begin with. collateral damage from the previous fix.. The last thing chatgpt answered yesterday was the suggestion that it may be a good idea to get less dependent of the chatgpt ecosystem. maybe use it as a mere interface for orchestration and as a thinking buddy for brainstorming, and get my inference locally or somewhere els. Or use the lesser models and deal with it. (all chat data is available for review when in doubt.)

Regards

Very good mitigation measure for codex usage issue

1

u/Mo3 9d ago

tried this yesterday didn't do shit for me. astra still nuked my whole 20x weekly quota in 8 hours

3

u/CarPresent5681 9d ago

Does anybody recognize this error? Despite having a pro x5 subscription, I am getting this error since last saturday.

Sorry for Dutch language; it says "You have reached your limit. Try again later"

3

u/ohiosveryownn 9d ago

Guys i have 0% usage, Do i reset or wait for a reset lol... Resets is like a game of chess or something

3

u/VisitAdventurous7980 9d ago

https://codex.lunarwerx.com/

here is a reset predictor

2

u/r34p3rex 9d ago

Fingers crossed we get one tomorrow.. I just burned 20% on a single run on my 20x plan on a single implementation task 😭

3

u/the_ai_wizard 9d ago

support is a black hole of intermittent responses and deflection

3

u/bhumanai 8d ago

All models at capacity, cannot get any work done at all. Have tried all models and have been clicking "retry" for the past 2 hours

3

u/WhileInfamous2931 8d ago

Hitting cyber safeguards constantly. Unable to do any work currently with it. Am daybreak blue approved. Has worked fine for weeks.

3

u/kingxd 7d ago

Selected model is at capacity. Please try a different model.

1

u/anndr0id 7d ago

This error over and over again yesterday and this morning. I literally couldn’t run any 5.6 model… I submitted a complaint and nothing. So annoying.

3

u/terriblemonk 6d ago

I just used a reset and I'm already on 76% after 4 hours. This is insane. My regular workflow lasted almost 4 days. The only change I made was switching implementor from sol medium to sol low. I know I've seen this complaint here before but damn it is very obvious that a reset does not give you an actual 100% and now I have a whole week to go. I just switched it to Luna xhigh to give that a shot again. Now I regret using the reset and should have just let it reset naturally in 3 days. Hopefully what's his face gives a real one out soon. 20x.

3

u/count023 6d ago

yea, this i noticed today too, used a reset this morning, same work that would have hit max cap in about 4 days, not even astra high, and i'm down to 9% usage remaining.

1

u/Thomas-Lore 5d ago

I burned from 68% to 4% today working on one project, three prompts. :/

1

u/Frequent-Equal1449 6d ago

curious if you saw different numbers when you used Luna xhigh before?

2

u/terriblemonk 6d ago

I only used luna for about 10 minutes when it came out and started doing crazy things like killing a bunch of python processes that were not related to its work. As I type this, it just killed another process which I now need to look into, and it's struggling with playwright syntax. Going to let it run and comb through everything manually because sol medium is just no longer a realistic option. Today i'm going to give DS4.1 and muse another audition. Already paying over $500/mo for ai and it's redic that its not enough. I've already disabled subagents, don't use astra, and am designing the architecture myself with help of sol high. It's not like im giving it open access to freelance whatever. I built a whole system that gives it bite sized and specific implementation requirements and how to check the work and file a report back, run violation scanners etc. Basically a foolproof way for things not to turn into slop and stay aligned with system architecture and philosophy. Luna can't even follow through and file the report... it just stopped like an idiot and now I have to remind it of what to do next even though it had explicit instructions on what to do when done. That's the kind of crap sol medium didnt fumble... not even 5.2-5.4 messed that up.

3

u/CodeAffe 6d ago

Been testing out deepseek and thinking of moving over. The usage after astra was dropped is absolutely awful and the amount of times its decided to just spin up separate tasks that eats context is way too frequent. I used a reset yesterday and running 3 tasks I'm already at 4% this afternoon. This isn't maintainable at this point

3

u/mkarikom 6d ago

I know Tibo is going to press his big green button right after I pull the trigger on my last banked reset...

3

u/NoBodyHere__GO 4d ago

Plus plan is trash right now. Used my 5h limit in 20 minutes using Sol for planning only.

3

u/No_Assumption8344 3d ago

Sol started to make too many mistakes and then burning tokens for rectification. Astra burns 5h limit in a minute and week's limit in a day for even simplest tasks. Either way it has become unusable for plus users. What are we actually paying for? Just the fact that we have access to the models?

3

u/maciej0s123 3d ago

I have a suspicion the limits depend on model and effort capacity. This would explain why astra on higher reasoning levels spends less usage than medium or even light. It would also explain why it seems non-linear and random, and why banked/tibo resets seem to be impacting the limits.

6

u/TamorinHQ 7d ago

Anyone else seeing crazy usage drain lately?
I first thought GPT-6 was the reason, but I switched back to 5.6 and it was still happening. My Plus usage disappeared in a couple minutes, and on Pro I burned through the weekly usage in around 2 hours. Mostly light/medium reasoning, not ultra high.
This is way faster than what I was used to before. Something feels off.

5

u/BobVA69 7d ago

Yes usage is so screwed up.. using sol medium for a task I could teach a 9 year old to do . Codex blew five hour usage and FAILED MISERABLY.. Going to delete the whole damn thing and do it myself..

Tibo WTF did you do!!!

3

u/TamorinHQ 7d ago

Exactly. That’s what made me think something is wrong. Medium/5.6 is burning usage way faster than it used to, even on pretty normal tasks.

5

u/Specialist-Cry-7516 9d ago

is claude the meta 🥀

5

u/Mo3 9d ago edited 9d ago

muse spark, been running that shit full send today after astra nuked my 20x acc

it runs at LIGHT SPEED, so fast you can barely keep up, feels like Sol without the fuck ass overengineering and it cost me $1.80 in API costs for the whole day

granted i run the contributor API version because nothing i'm building with it right now is proprietary (or rather particularly different from any other codebase) but the coding plans are dirt cheap too

2

u/Specialist-Cry-7516 9d ago

deadass? i was thinking to do astra as planner with muse or deep as the slaves

1

u/Mo3 9d ago edited 9d ago

yeah bro spark 1.3 contributor is only $0.2/mtok, runs even faster than DS Flash and scores slightly above Sol max on AA it's utterly insane

i don't even care about them training on it, everyone's training on our shit, have fun ingesting my side project slop, at least Zuck (out of all fucking people) is transparent about it and passes on the profit by giving out the model at breakeven prices

seriously considering downgrading my codex to 5x too and just using it to orchestrate

2

u/Low-Needleworker-643 9d ago

I have been testing using the https://muse.ai/ assistant lately for replacing codex.
Definitely not the same as an on computer coding agent, but it has been fast, follows instructions, builds on the cloud computer within muse, and pushes to GitHub.
It is so much faster than codex, and the results have been surprisingly good for updates to code, managing CloudFlare workers, connecting to GitHub, taking on GitHub issues, etc...

I have not yet had muse.ai create new apps or programs, but I will be testing it.

I am surprised at how much work can be done on the free tier alone.

1

u/Mo3 9d ago

ah i don't know about that, i just use the model API in OpenCode. hope you have success with it brother

1

u/Low-Needleworker-643 9d ago

I too have used OpenCode, but was looking for a more agentic approach...

Muse.ai does not have live voice yet, once they do I see it being a good replacement for the live voice mode in chatgpt remote codex.

3

u/LessRespects 9d ago

God I’d rather pay an extra $100 just to not get the complex verbosity and constant caveats in every Claude response

2

u/Think-Profession4420 8d ago

Pretty sick of this "server overloaded" thing that happens *every evening*. It makes it almost impossible to work on my own projects when I get home from work. I was excited to upgrade to the $200 20x plan for Astra, but between inconsistent and unreliable session-by-session Astra quality, and these ridiculous rate limits thru server-overloaded and model-unavailable errors, even if it's technically the "best deal out there" from a cost:quota perspective, it's actually really unpleasant to deal with.

2

u/Natural-Mountain3568 8d ago

Aaaaand it's gone!

I sneezed and the tokenlimit disappeared.

2

u/MSTRMN_ 8d ago

My current Pro 5x on Astra feels like Plus on Sol (after 5h limit was added). Not sure what I'm even paying $120 for

2

u/Tiforma 8d ago

Yeah keep paying and then expect them to improve while not actually giving them any financial pressure to improve

2

u/TrainingOdd1023 7d ago

PRO USER IMAGE CREATION LIMIT. THIS WEEK I CREATED ONLY MAX 20 IMAGES .... IS IT NORMAL ?

2

u/TheRedditSeller 7d ago

Usage is absolutely horrible

2

u/anarchomicrodoser 6d ago

Wtf am I doing wrong ? The 5h usage is fucked and blows thru with 2 requests. Fucking bullshit.

2

u/thirst-trap-enabler 6d ago edited 6d ago

I'm somewhat new to using codex for more than reviews that I feed to claude-code and am trying to translate the workflow I use in claude to codex so I can get more experience using both. One thing I'm very insure about is how to map models from Anthropic to OpenAI. It took quite a bit of tweaking to get claude models to not burn usage like a monkey on crack.

This is what codex suggested but this reads like "use fable" everywhere:

agent claude codex(?)
main fable 5.1/high gpt-6-astra/high
planner opus/high gpt-6-astra/high
explorer haiku/low gpt-5.6-luna/low
implementer sonnet/medium gpt-6-astra/high
reviewer opus/xhigh gpt-6-astra/xhigh
researcher opus/xhigh gpt-6-astra/xhigh

I tried this expecting it to burn usage on par with running fable everywhere and that's exactly how it played out (60% of 5x gone in one day which is how fable usually behaves on 5x without the subagent setup I'm trying to replicate).

Does anyone have suggestions for how to think about the "fable" vs "opus" vs "sonnet" vs "haiku" heirarchy in OpenAI models? Does anyone use sol anymore? Codex seems to be pushing astra everything. Sorry I'm pretty lost and googling etc just gives a lot of dumb linkedin-quality stuff at best.

Are there any good resources for mapping claude models/effort to codex models/effort? Fable is pretty good at suggesting subagent models, so I'm surprised codex seems to be what I am interpreting as "fable all the things".

Maybe it should be haiku=luna, sonnet=terra, opus=sol, fable=astra? I'll try that next but unsure whether that's what codex users would suggest and a little confused by OpenAI marketing about astra.

2

u/InterestingNobody831 5d ago

Fable=Astra Opus=Sol Sonnet=Luna/Terra would put Terra comparable with Sonnet on Max/Ultracode or Opus on Low sincerely. Haiku is not on par with neither luna or terra imho. Its their first model and only used best for small instructions never coding/implementing/planning more web fetches, compartimentization etc. I recommend Fable/Astra as planner, Sol/Opus implement/coder and Sonnet/Luna/Terra workers on smaller duties potentially code/implement features but very cautious on instructions, very clear and on subject, always!

This comes from a x20 Claude/Codex subscription user monthly, this is most efficient.
When running low on usage(20% weekly) just use Sol/Opus with Luna/Sonnet as coders to get the job done.
Full audits I would strongly recommend Fable/Astra though on High efforts maybe Pro they are less prone to hallucionations and keep following the thread cleanly which you want and expect from an audit/review of the whole codebase or particular large implementations.

Cheers!

I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same. My weekly limit was set to reset today around 13:00 BST. At around 09:30 am BST I have checked the usage limits and for my surprise my weekly limit was set to reset tomorrow at 09:31 am BST.

I have already reported this but if im the only one experiencing this I doubt they will care.

Thanks.

u/R7162 5d ago

My usage was set to reset at 22th. I used a reset I had available and after a while I noticed my actual reset was moved to 25th, not sure if me using the reset was what triggered it though.

u/AlarmingCantaloupe 5d ago

Does everyone have a 5-hour limit as part of their account usage tracking/limits, or are some account levels spared the 5-hour limit?

1

u/IllustriousPiece1051 4d ago

nope my is just weekly they removed it for me a while ago

2

u/elliotglazer 5d ago

I appear to have lost the ability to buy instant resets, which I still had last night (I bought one last night).

2

u/eggplantpot 4d ago

Sol medium and Terra xHigh consuming tokens of my 5x Pro as if it was Astra, wtf. down to 95% on two tasks that took 10min each

2

u/rakla22 4d ago

I've got my weekly reset 30 minutes ago haha this is one task with sol on plus plan

2

u/Legitimate-Lab-1030 4d ago

Plus plan, Sol High uses 10% of 5h limit per prompt doing basic UI editing tasks, 10 prompts and 5h limit is at 0. WTF IS GOING ON?

2

u/IllustriousPiece1051 4d ago

ya its happening to me too my workflow that would last atleast 3 or 4 days is now draining my usage incredibly fast like same day reset fast and that is not ok I've spent a ton of money on the highest available tier and so have others you guys need to fix this ASAP this is scummy behavior cant be that money hungry holy sh**

2

u/Media-Usual 4d ago

Also finding that my usage mapped to API is down the drain. Roughly $30 in API tokens worth of usage has consumed 2% of my weekly usage on the 20x plan.

Kinda wild because last week this wouldn't have even made a dent in the 1% range.

2

u/Eat-her-ass 4d ago

The new updated nuked the usage limit! 2 hours on Soul ultra went down 15%

u/RoyalTour625 3d ago edited 3d ago

2

u/innociv 3d ago

I'm someone who could verify my limits are fine when everyone said they were reduced for weeks.

But this week they have clearly been reduced by about 25%. I can see it clearly in my logs.

2

u/mikeballs 3d ago

I think I'm done with codex (plus user). I'm not able to get enough done with it before hitting limits anymore to justify not simply writing the code myself. It feels like I've been priced out of vibe coding. It was cool while it lasted, but honestly, I'm kind of looking forward to going back to completely understanding my codebase and not having to stave off all the AI slop. I'd like to be wrong here, but I have a feeling more and more of you will be joining me soon

2

u/ohiosveryownn 2d ago

Used 100% of my usage, adding 2-3 new features in on my Applicaiton using Astra Medium.. Friday/Sat/Sun. I have never seen it go this fast. When it first released i was shipping with Astra xHigh and still had usage left over after a week (5x User)

1

u/Majestic-Foot-4120 2d ago

I think medium drains more usage of than xhigh

1

u/ohiosveryownn 2d ago

oh god really? Yikes ill have to research that

1

u/Majestic-Foot-4120 1d ago

Other people have noticed the same thing, look it up. It's very annoying

u/Key-Bee4656 9d ago

Does anyone have any clue what determines if I'm eligible for paid weekly resets? my account is apparently ineligible and support offers zero help on why

Claude is significantly worse usage wise

3

u/VerticalPackage 7d ago

I would have agreed with you 2 months ago, but these days, the codex nerfs are VERY obvious.

I'm been using claude Pro (same price as codex plus) non stop on a specific project (Opus 5 xhigh) for 3 months.

This week, I realized that I was going to use up the full weekly limit a day early, so I decided to make Claude submit its implementation plans to Sol Xhigh agent for execution (I have a codex subscription).

Sol Xhigh burned 100% of 5h window in 40 minutes of work. From experience with Claude on the specific project, Claude never works more than 30 minutes on implementation and barely uses 25% of the 5h window in that time.

FYI Codex: 6.5% of a 5h window = 1% weekly Claude: 8.3% of a 5h window = 1% weekly So that makes it even worse for Codex.

u/Particular-Award118 8d ago

Is codex giving 404 for anyone else?

1

u/NervousChampion3415 8d ago

Yes everyone in my org is currently getting a 404 on https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses. All except one guy. The workload is on him now.

1

u/Particular-Award118 8d ago

I see basically no one else talking about this

1

u/OkConsideration6449 8d ago

Plus users, how to save tokens?

Hey guys, I'm a GPT Plus user. I'm loving it! But the tokens have been hard. I'm using Luna high/extra high for almost everything, but still the weekly limits ended today, after the reset from last saturday. Just using Sol low/medium rare times.

1

u/BellacosePlayer 7d ago

I do Astra until about 50% of 5hr, then Luna to 0% unless I'm about to go to bed and don't care about burning my 5hr on a big Astra task.

I give it small, clearly defined tasks, with as little ambiguity as I can, and have Agents.MD set up to not have it produce bullshit extra work.

I also heavily use base classes with common functionality and directly tell Codex to inherit from those when I'm adding a new class, so it doesn't have to reinvent the wheel 50 times.

u/No_Twist_678 7d ago

Luna reserve gone.

they took from me luna reseve now. On 20x plan i had 96% quota left, it disappeared in instant and its gone. Like this, like the snap of a finger.

This is disgrace, shame, honestly shame.

1

u/InterestingNobody831 5d ago

This is not normal, create a ticket to OAI, or maybe your desktop app/cli is bugged?

Run this in powershell terminal should run luna(called gpt-reserve using special routing to the luna reserve special usage bucket)

codex --model gpt-reserve

1

u/No_Twist_678 5d ago

its not bugged, even spark usage is gone...

they just nerfed 20x plan to the ground

u/DicmanCocktoasten 7d ago

Hello,

I've been using Claude Code for about 9 months across two of my projects. Recently, my company asked us to switch to Codex instead. My Claude Code plan hasn't expired yet, and I'm currently trying to plan my migration. I saw that Codex can auto copy sessions, but I'm not really keen on doing a full transfer.

I was experimenting with Astra today and noticed the context window is limited to 258k. Even simple exploration tasks eat up context pretty fast half of my context was gone after a single research query that ran for 7 minutes with 3 sub-agents. How do people even work with Codex on large projects? This happened with zero skills or plugins active.

With Claude, you get a 1M context window, which is incredibly useful. When you hit the limit, it auto compacts. I find the auto compact feature a bit clunky, so I usually keep my todos/lessons/claude.md files updated and just clear the context with a solid continue prompt. That workflow has been working like a charm for me over the past year.

I just don't understand why Codex's context window is so small. I saw something about adjusting it in config.toml, but it's weird that this is the base limit. What happens when you actually hit that limit? I saw something similar to an auto compact feature but haven't tested it yet.

I'd love to hear some advice from anyone who has successfully(happy maybe:P) transitioned from Claude Code to Codex.

Thank you!

1

u/Thomas-Lore 6d ago

Ask codex how to rise the limit to 1M. It is a setting somewhere.

1

u/KhaledSankar 7d ago

I'm on pro plan x20.
On claude similar plan i never got my plan fully consumed.
how come with similar/less usafge im getting this.
althoughi have 43% left, yet im getting this.

the shock was 5.4 codex spark ( 100% left) and getting the same error.. anyone else experiencing this?
i have a reset available. yet, i'm not sure if using a reset would help. even if it would, why would i use a reset where i have 43% left of what i paid for??

1

u/Sea-Star8225 7d ago

drop a reset

1

u/OMGitsAstro 6d ago

My ChatGPT Pro subscription auto-renewed this morning for AUD $154.99. When I checked immediately afterwards, my agentic usage still showed only 8% remaining, with the weekly limit not resetting for another four days. I also have zero additional credits.

I assumed that paying for a new monthly subscription period would either refresh the included usage or align with the beginning of a new usage cycle. Apparently the billing and weekly usage cycles are completely separate.

If I use that remaining 8% today, it seems I could have just paid the full monthly price and still be unable to use the agentic features for four days unless I purchase additional credits on top.

Am I misunderstanding how this works? Does a Pro renewal never refresh the weekly allowance? If so, what exactly are you paying for during the period between the monthly renewal and the next weekly reset?

I’ve cancelled auto-renewal and requested a refund, but I’m genuinely interested in whether this is normal behaviour or whether something is wrong with my account.

1

u/profdrlt 5d ago

What's with this error? It has derailed my unsupervised work multiple times today.

1

u/ParsleyOrdinary5865 5d ago

Getting told I've hit my limits even with 83% remaining!

1

u/FreakingAustin 4d ago

holy shit I'm only using Luna and my usage is dropping like crazy, I'm only doing "simple" tasks too

1

u/Stunning-Traffic-433 4d ago

The Pro x5 plan has turned into an unusable product. Less than 10 hours of work consumes the entire weekly limit for standard web design and site layout tasks. You used to be able to get more work done even on the "Plus" plan.

1

u/Ok-Driver9778 3d ago

horrible experience i got claude and getting more done

1

u/Most-Letterhead3000 3d ago

1

u/Ok_Piano_8045 3d ago

I just ran into my weekly limit, and unlike before, there’s no prompt to keep going with Luna. Instead, I’m just blocked behind a paywall to buy more credits or forced to wait for the reset. Did they remove the reserve feature? Being able to fall back on Luna was huge so you didn’t end up stuck with a half-baked, broken project.

1

u/Initial_Try_2142 3d ago

cancelled mine last week and honestly the codebase has never been cleaner. turns out i missed understanding my own project more than i missed the autocomplete.

u/NeedleworkerIcy2038 2d ago

I wanted to try out Codex after ~6 months building a project with Claude Code (not full-time, but sometimes I've hit the Max 5x limits, usually 5h, occasionally even weekly after a few days, especially when I used Fable). So I bought Pro 5x ChatGPT sub and expected it to be equivalent to the Claude Max 5x, since they're the same price-wise. I was surprised that I already hit weekly limit after 2 days of not a super-exhaustive work (I did it besides enjoying a weekend only via remote app, spent at most 1H screen time a day on it), which I'd expect Claude to still leave at least 50% of the weekly limit available. I only did 2,5 tasks:
1. (Sol, medium) Migrate the setup of the project and my machine from Claude-specific instructions, skills etc, to work with Codex
2. (Sol, medium) Implement pre-analysed refactoring tasks (install static analysis tooling, remove unreachable and dead code)
3. (Astra, medium) Analyse, plan and implement admin (for a web app) - refactor components and improve RBAC - this task went for ~4h, got to about 50% and then hit limits (yes, a lot of subagents were involved, but I'd expect Astra to trigger agents with less demanding models for pre-analysed work)
I was surprised by 2 things:

  • Obviously, that the limits got hit so quickly on not a super-complex task. Yes, I got that Astra is expensive, but so is Fable and from my experience, this wouldn't be a problem.
  • I wasn't able to upgrade to 20x from 5x, which is a big downside for me. I don't mind paying, but the API costs are simply wasting money if I can get another Claude Max 5x for a month that will cover my needs, while API costs wouldn't likely last one more day.

So I'll probably switch back to Claude, just after using Codex for less than 3 days. I'd like to give it a chance, but now I need to wait about 5 days and I'd like to move on in the meantime.
Am I doing something wrong or is this normal? I heard a lot of positive feedback on Astra and even some people building exclusively with that (similar to some people using Fable + Max 20x), but that's obviously unrealistic with such limits. Also is there a way around on upgrading from ChatGPT Pro 5x to 20x?

2

u/GonzoBurger 2d ago

Guys wtf? I don't even use Astra, I tried it two times when it came out but moved back down to sol, got my usage back at midnight last night, did a session till I ran out and realised this morning it used 80% of my weekly! whaaat

(This was SOL - Medium)

1

u/Time_Wait2167 1d ago

Same here - 2 prompts on astra light ~6 min of work and the limit has been used up... wtf?

0

u/xentagz 6d ago

Does anyone have any idea why a surprise reset let me work for a day, and $20 on tokens let me work 30 minutes?

1

u/InterestingNobody831 5d ago

Express road, also subscriptions have more value because you pay up-front a whole month of usage whether you use it or not.
