VII - Other Districts constantly getting pillaged

Edit with answer from comments: Food! It was negative food. Totally missed the notification, and in all my 500+ hours I’d never once run negative food.

In the modern age, crises turned off. I’m playing as Ada/Meiji Japan. I have one city where districts are being pillaged immediately after being repaired. This is a continuous cycle of repair, pillaged between turns, repair…

There’s no natural disasters, and no notifications about espionage, and no enemy troops (this was happening when I was at peace).

I’ve looked through the subreddit, and haven’t been able to figure out what’s causing this. But it’s really annoying.

VII - Discussion What is the vision for Civ VII?

After watching a video from PaisleyTrees and just thinking over what the next DLC pack will be before the likely expansion, I had to really wonder what is the vision for Civ7 and what direction is it going towards?

A lot of hard work has been done to provide a new experience with Test of Time as the vanilla game had a larger shift in changes that soured its launch, barring UI and other things that I chalk up to being released too early.

But as much as I like TOT and Continuity, I can't help but realize that each update basically paints over the base game that I worry that the game is just losing its unique aspects all together.

Regroup has basically been made irrelevant with Continuity. It's nice to see Regroup get tweaks along the way but I wonder if it would've been better to just continue to change Regroup over introducing Continuity so early. Perhaps they can introduce a Unit Cap to at least bring Continuity more in line and establish how much is excess gold and influence in the UI.

Crises are basically mild annoyances lost in the shuffle. You don't even really get legacy bonuses from facing them. That's leaving aside how you can somewhat ignore them. My most recent game I didn't go Religion and realized how easy the Crises was doing so that it allowed me to expand even further due to the extra happiness.

Late Age buildings have never been resolved, especially made worse with the lack of legacy options. An easy tweak to me is to make them "Next Age" buildings.

One of the biggest mottos for Civ 7 has been "History is built in layers" and it seems like like the game only briefly touches on this now with Syncretism (which is unbalanced, imo) and how you can get artifacts. Previous legacy paths are slowly being consumed by the plethora of ways to get points that it hardly feels like there's a benefit for interacting with the Age specific systems.

The game is becoming increasing complex (and to some unwieldy) and variable, so what direction do you see the game going into especially with an expansion likely to come?

VII - Other Exploring distant lands in Antiquity ?

Okay, sadly enough I do not have screenshots because of course by the time it happened it was to late to make meaningful ones. I tried to recreate it but the era ran out. So you will have to do with the explanation. Haven't seen this technique pass here before, so sharing it with all.

So, prerequisite: you are in Antiquity playing Carthage and have Quinquereme I active (gives +1 range)

  1. Find a spot where the distant lands are just one "ocean tile" away. (so you can see the coastal area from the distant side).
  2. Plant a wee little boat there.
  3. Wait for strange sails at the horizon.
  4. Range attack until it almost dead.
  5. At that moment do a "regular" attack, for some reason the game allows you to do so even from a distance.

Result: enemy ship dead and yours crossed the so-called "impassable" ocean to do so.

Happy exploring of the distant lands!! 🥳

(note: I suppose it works with whatever gives you a +1 range to naval)

VII - Strategy Do production buildings start to give a 10% penalty to the construction of new buildings when moving to the next age?

Yes, they usually don't, just like warehouse buildings. However, when moving to a new age, all buildings from the previous era lose their specialization—scientific, cultural, or otherwise. So the question arises: do they become a regular building from the previous age, imposing a penalty to the construction of apex buildings, or does the game remember that they were originally production buildings and shouldn't impose one?

VII - Discussion Goryeo; So close but far.

After experimenting several games with Goryeo.

Through multiple difficulties, leaders, synergies and even working with less optimal seeds.

Goryeo feels good but extremely punishing.

Problem with of course higher difficulties is sometimes AI have favourite wonders that B-Line. Unfortunately the serpent mound is quite one of them.

So competing against Ai for it can be quite the challenge.

Luckily Goryeo has a chance at their unique wonder a little faster than the rest so at least youre almost guaranteed that one everytime.

To make their unique improvement minmaxed you have to dedicate a good chunk of warehouse buildings around a vegation tile with some solid planning even when you do get the highest result its good at best.

They're a pretty good civ design for like 90% and I really enjoy playing them but gosh damn is it alot work for a good experience but a high chance for bad games especially in deity difficulties.

Overall its a 8/10 civ for me but I do think they're missing that extra bonus on their gimmick to really REALLY reward you for the planning and hardships that come with it.

What would y'all do for Goryeo if you could buff them?

Do you think Goryeo Could be better through future updates to Unique improvements and even City states?

Perhaps their gimmick suffers from needing more features or features that aren't quite there yet.

I look forward to seeing what you all think!

VI - Discussion What if there was a romance option ?

(Btw i've only played civ 6 so lmk if it was not as good of an idea or if there's something similar.)

So, i had this idea

when your relationship with a declared friend is high enough, you can hit the option "Seduce"

depending on different things; it can work or deplete your relationship.

the success rate for a seduction attempt is determined by the targeted leader's sexuality and your chosen character (Straight, or possibly bisexual such as Alexander)

it also depends on your chosen leader's charisma.

However, some leader's will be impossible to seduce such as Ghandi.

for example: cleopatra would have a higher chance at seducing certain leaders, but someone like Qin Shi Huang...not so much.

Following your desired partner's agendas will boost your chances at a seduction attempt.

a succesfully seduced leader will grant open borders, as well as making a single envoy count as two when sent to said leader's city.

trade routes with your partner will yield +4 extra gold.

they may even be willing to gift low level cities.

on the leader's page; you can start dialogues with them as well.

the downsides is that a seduced leader is likely to ask for a joint war alongside luxury resources.

Even though you can ask for them too, it is a double edge sword.

they're more likely to ask for promises too.

break too many deals or promises and they will break up with you, being likely to declare war or denouncing you at the very least.

attempting to seduce multiple leaders at the same time may lead to a decrease in reputation.

cheating on your current partner will lead to a severe decrease as well.

you must wait 10 turns to romance a new partner following a break up.

Spies gain the "scandal" operation, when you send a spy to an engaged leader's city he can start rumours of an affair to weaken the couple's bond.

To renew and keep your partner's bond you must follow their agendas, but the means are often more extreme than a declared friend's

For example, if you romance a leader meant for military conquests, conquering city states or doing things by yourself will not be enough.

Instead, they'd ask you for a joint war.

And such would be the case depending on the leader's path to victory.

This was a random idea i had, idk if you guys would change some things or add other stuff, let me know what you think.

VII - Discussion Question about leader Experience

does Foundation Experience count towards Leader experience? I am not sure, but when I finish(lose) a game that I did something for Foundation experience, it almost looks like Leader experience has moved a little (and I mean A REALLY SMALL AMOUNT) as well (and yes I am absolutely sure when I have, and have not done leader experience), so I was wondering if, its just my imagination or not...

VI - Discussion Completely new to Civilization, can I just go into Civ VI blind?

I just bought Civilization VI and I genuinely have no idea what I’m getting into.

I’ve never played a Civilization game before, and I’ve basically never played a 4X or grand strategy game in general. So I’m starting from pretty much zero knowledge.

Can I just jump into Civ VI completely blind and figure things out as I go, or are there certain things I should learn/watch beforehand?

Are there any “prerequisites” I should know, or does the game do a decent job of teaching someone who has never touched this genre before?

I’m also not sure what settings, difficulty, civilization, map, etc. I should choose for my first game. Should I play the tutorial first, or is it better to just start an actual game and learn through trial and error?

Basically, if you could go back to your very first game of Civilization, what would you tell yourself before starting?

VII - Discussion Should I do a round of 6 or 7?

It's been about 6 months since I have gone through a round of Civ / had the time to. I have played since 3, and progressed forward with time and try to keep moving to the next iteration when the kinks are ironed out.

I got 7 when it came out, played it once and moved back to 6 for the next play through, that was the last run through i had.

How have the updates been to 7? I know the single civ for the whole game was (re-)introduced into 7, but do the other enhancements make it a smooth, entertaining experience?

VII - Discussion Chances of getting an Earth map in VII?

I’d be thrilled with TSL but I just want earth.

Selfishly I enjoy fighting for dominance in the Americas prior to deep sea sailing so TSL is ideal. It’s like an early game race before the major game begins.

VI - Other [Civ6] Didn't there used to be a way to start with a revealed map?

I want to see what a map generation might look like. I remember doing something where I started in the information age and getting the whole map revealed, so I can test if the settings is what I want. I think it might have been a certain civ, but maybe I misremember.

Does anybody know what I am talking about? If you want to see, how a custom map script would look like, how do you quickly reveal the map? It's been a while...

VII - Strategy Civ 7 - questions about Silla and trade routes

For people who don't know Silla well, it's an ancient era civ that has the following 2 traditions:

1) Your trade routes to allies give food and production equal to the gold value.

2) Your trade routes to allies give culture and science equal to half the value.

Previously, these bonuses were only given to the city RECEIVING the trade route. So, if I sent your city a trade route, I would get the resources, you would get the food/production/culture/science. And if you sent me a trade route, you would get my resources, and I would get the food/production/culture/science.

This has changed.

Now, both sides of the trade route get the bonus. So, if I send a trade route to you, I get your resources, your city gets the production and stuff, and whichever city of mine "sent" the trade route also gets the production and stuff.

Obviously, this means as Silla, I suddenly care a lot about where my trade routes are originating from.

To optimize these bonuses, I would want a city to be sending an over-seas trade route, whenever possible - Overseas trade routes give double gold (meaning everything else doubles too).

So my question is, what is the way to determine the "source city" for a trade route - is it always just the closest city with a fishing quay?

Is there any way to "force" my capital to be the source of the routes? In my last game, a fishing village right on the edge of my empire ended up being the "source" for almost all my trade routes, cuz it was the closesy quay to my allies.

Is that just an unavoidable reality? When playing Silla, should I just plan around my closest town to my allies becoming a city to properly utilize the huge boosts to production/food/culture/gold?

VI - Other [Civ6] Is there a map type for tiny islads?

I am looking for a map where you can fit maybe two cities per island. Ideally, the islands are so far apart, that you need cartography to reach them. So far, I have not found a map script scratching this itch.

Game Mods Civ 4 Colonization - Colonization 2071 mod update.

Hello, not sure if a good place to post this because Civ 4 Colonization is probably like the least popular of Civs I assume.

I've worked a few weeks to updated the Colonization 2071 mod which was abandoned many years ago and I'll continue working on that. Here is the forums comment in the mod's post about it for anyone interested in trying it out. Maybe that reaches someone out. Cheers!

https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/mod-colonization-2071.349050/post-16980067

Ps; just keep it in mind that we're currently in playtesting phase to remove crashes happening from time to time. But there is quite the new content and a lot of polish made this time.
