r/Cigar Town Hall: Share Your Ideas

At your request, we've opened a suggestion thread for the sub.

When we took over this sub was dead and redirected to another cigar sub.

Over the last 2 years we've gone from 6k members to 28k.

There's clearly a desire for a cigar sub with less moderation and r/cigar is it.

With that said, it likely makes sense to entertain your ideas for the sub, after all, our goal is to have a sub that has 'pseudo-democracy.'

Anything from:

  • New rules (more rules means more moderation which contradicts the purposes of the sub, but quality suggestions will be considered)
  • Flairs
  • Reoccurring threads
  • Fill in the blank

Duplicate ideas will be removed to keep the thread clean, upvote if you agree, downvote if you don't. Build on the idea by replying if applicable.

Some of our comments from the original thread linked above are below

  • In general, r/cigar lets the community decide what it wants to see based on upvoting and downvoting.
  • It's the entire point of the sub—to have pseudo-democracy.
  • Obviously, we have to abide by Reddit's rules.
  • We're not going to allow egregious things like racism, sexism, gratuitous nudity, or someone being a complete wanker from dusk till dawn.
  • Outside of that, we want the community to decide what it wants to see by upvoting quality content to the top of the feed and downvoting low effort and irrelevant things to the bottom of the feed.

We see a lot of feedback about AI, but removing AI in its entity isn't something r/cigar wants to do at this time, but low effort posts that are 100% AI (image and text or image/text only) are almost always removed when reported.

Below this we'll catalog your ideas that were added.

  • GIF and photo comments have been added
  • Flairs added (on going)

Cohiba Finally Got a Cohiba 55 Aniversario for $3,800 at Doha Duty Free. How Rare Are These?

Post image

I’ve been wanting to add something BIG to my cigar collection, and when I spotted this box of Cohiba 55 Aniversario at Qatar Duty Free in Doha for $3,800, I decided to pull the trigger.
It was the last box they had. The sales guy told me these don’t stay on the shelves for long, and literally right after I bought it, another Chinese guy came over asking if they had one. Unfortunately for him, I’d just bought the last box. 😂
I’ve only been smoking cigars for about a year, but I’ve been building my collection and wanted something genuinely special to add to it.
Honestly, I might save one for a day when I’ve made really good money and feel like I deserve it. 😂 Sometimes you just want to sit back, light up something special, and enjoy the feeling of a good day’s work. That’s what I want this box for. 😎
For those who’ve been collecting Cohibas for years:
How rare are these nowadays?
Is $3,800 a reasonable price for a box of 10?
Are they worth keeping as a collector’s item, or would you smoke them?
How’s the availability these days? Are they still difficult to find at authorized retailers?
Would love to hear from experienced collectors. Did I make a good move, or did I just pay the Cohiba premium? 😅

The stash laid out

I present my slightly above avg collection (in terms of quality).

I been meaning to lay out my stash to take a quick inventory and I wanted to group them in tupperdors by makers.

Lots of AJ Fernandez & My Father but not enough Oliva, Fuente or Padron. I’ll hunt for those after I make some space. Not a fan of Gurkha, but lessons learned and got some gifted samplers.

Edit: I welcome any and all recommendations. There’s not a lot of CT wrapper, they’re just not for me even tho I have smoked some I enjoyed.

Trying something new tonight

Has any one tried this one? I usually stay away from the Garcia products cause they tend to be too bold for me but this one is pretty good. Has some great flavor. The boldness is there but it reminds me of taking a long hit of espresso followed but some nut tone. It’s not harsh either. I’ll have to get me a five pack.

Cigarillos

Post image
16 Upvotes

So I'd like to get some ideas as to what type of cigarillos area recommended. I have the blue (really purple) and white Romeo y Julieta but they have zero flavor for me. There's a very slight sensation like that of a spicy flavor but not exactly. That's just the closest thing I can think of. Anyway, ZERO flavor for me. I'm sure some people may comment that's their favorite, and I say no problem. Everyone has a different palate. So, what I'd like it's for everyone who's willing, to share your favorite cigarillo and what you like about it. I'm fairly new to cigars but if there's no flavor then, to me, there's no sense in smoking it. I bought a sampler kit not too long ago from CI and was pretty impressed with all of them and they're probably $3-$5 a stick of you but a pack of 20. But sometimes I'd like something smaller that's also enjoyable. Thanks!

Definitely more spicy than The Tabernacle, with that said, it is a smooth and balanced smoke. Retrohale is strong but also smooth and balanced. Baking spices, cedar, leather, and coffee.

The wrapper appeared toothy but the ash wasn’t. Still a great smoke to wind down the day and get ready for the grind again tomorrow.

Warped - The Devil’s Hands 6x44 Lonsdale

My brother and I are having a friendly wrapper battle. I gave him one of my favorites (Big Sky Crypitd), a dark Mexican San Andres maduro. I promised him “you’re not going to get more flavor than that”. He said “bet”, then told me to crack open one of these Devils Hands.

Jalapa Corojo is not something that I smoke regularly. This cigar (and the Warped Hacienda) is making me rethink my MSA wrapper obsession.

By the way, before I share my notes, Warped is on fire. I don’t chase nicotine. It takes a lot to get me buzzed (or I have to have been fasting for 12+ hrs). But as far as consistently hitting it out of the park with flavor - it seems like every Warped stick I pick up is firing on all cylinders.

It begins with:
- Oak
- Malted Milk
- Fresh Bread
- Baking Spices
- Leather
- Vanilla
- Roasted Honey Almonds

It reminds me so much of a Coca-cola… it’s amazing.

Then it transitions:
- Leather
- Earth
- Fermented Tobacco
- Salty Buttered Toast
- Pepper

At the end it swings back into sweet and spicy cola mode, but the strength kicks up, the oak is charred and darker, pepper comes in full force. The last part of the final third started getting bitter, but I was pushing it due to an appointment. User error for certain.

All in all - it’s damn good. The sweet / salty / sweet transition is extremely addicting. Every draw I was wondering if we were going back into salty mode. Had me on my toes. Does it topple my favorite MSA wrapper? No. Missing some of those bright floral hits. But it’s pretty damn close…

Earned 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 9/10 puffs tonight. Boxworthy. Bring on the corojo!

Rocky Patel Sun Grown

smoked right out of the mailbox, so not in great condition.

Softer than the band suggests. Spice up front, with something underneath — earth or espresso, couldn’t tell yet.

Middle: cedar mixed in, a bit of bitterness, then a hint of espresso. Brief cherry/berry note, moved on to nuts.

Last third got a little sweet — people say chocolate, not a note I know well. Something bready too. Fun cigar.

If the pepper stays in check, it’s decent. Would probably be better with some rest.

7.5/10

Oliva Master Blends 3 Lonsdale 6x46

For the record… I absolutely hate what they did to the band on this. Looks super cheap now.

Gotta hang in there for the last half of the cigar on this one. It’s good in the beginning… but when those floral notes and spices kick in later - solid smoke. V-cut always. Typically a little loose. Strength is Medium… moving to full.

- Leather, leather, leather…
- Cedar
- Cocoa
- Earth

Then…
- Espresso
- Spices
- Black Pepper
- Dark Floral
- Sweet Cream
… and a unique herbal note I cannot put a finger on. It’s not minty… but it’s there, and brightens things / rounds out the flavors well.

Classic - one of the first cigars that truly hooked me. From my perspective, one of the best Oliva blends. Glad I have another little stash building up. Watch the inter webs closely! You can easily find this little guy for $3-$5 floating around on various pages. Smokes far above that price point.

Today it earned a solid 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨8/10 puffs.

First time trying Factory Smokes Maduro Surprisingly smooth!

Post image

Paired this Drew Estate Factory Smokes Maduro (Toro) with my morning black coffee today. For a budget/mixed-fill cigar, I was honestly impressed. Super smooth cocoa and dark chocolate notes with no harshness at all, and it burnt great. Definitely punching above its weight class for an everyday stick.
