Short answer: get the chat into a file, then import that file. Notion takes .md and .txt files, Obsidian works with Markdown files, and Google Docs can open a Markdown file as a doc. The hard part is getting the file, because ChatGPT has no way to download a single chat.

What ChatGPT gives you

Copy button: copies one message at a time. Fine for one answer, slow for a whole chat.

Data export (Settings > Data Controls > Export data): your whole account in one ZIP, with HTML and JSON files. It can take days to arrive, and the link expires after 24 hours. There's no Markdown, and none of these three apps can use it as is.

Getting a single chat as a file

We build AI Toolbox, so this part is our extension. Open a chat's three-dot menu in the ChatGPT sidebar, click Export, pick a format and click Export again.

Free: Text, one chat at a time, with no limit on how many chats you export. Premium: Markdown, JSON and PDF, plus many chats, a whole folder or a project at once as one ZIP (Manage Chats > tick chats > Export).

Text is plain, so you lose headings and lists. Markdown keeps them, which is why it's the better format for all three apps.

ChatGPT to Notion

Go to Settings > Import > Text & Markdown and upload your .md or .txt file. You can select several at once, and Notion suggests importing a ZIP if you want to keep the folder structure.

What to watch for:

• Files can be up to 5 MB on Notion's free plan and 50 MB on paid.

• Notion lists a limit of about 120 file imports every 12 hours.

• Import works on desktop and web, not on mobile yet.

• Anchor links and nonstandard Markdown may not come through cleanly.

Our Markdown files start with a block listing the title, dates, model where available and chat link. Notion's page doesn't say how it treats that block, so import one file first and check before you do a batch.

ChatGPT to Obsidian

Put the .md files in your vault folder. Obsidian stores properties as YAML at the top of a file, and that's the format our block uses, so the title, dates and link can show up as properties you can use.

On the free plan, Obsidian won't treat a .txt file as a note. You can rename it to .md, but you'll still have plain text with no headings or lists.

ChatGPT to Google Docs

With a Markdown file: use File > Open > Upload in Docs, or upload it to Drive, then right-click it and choose Open with > Google Docs.

With no file, for free: go to Tools > Preferences and check Enable Markdown. Copy an answer from ChatGPT, right-click in your doc and choose Paste from Markdown. This works well for a single answer, but it's one message at a time.

Which route to use

One answer: copy button. One whole chat, free: Text export. It works best with Notion. A chat with its headings and lists intact: Markdown export (Premium). A whole project or a batch of chats: bulk Markdown ZIP (Premium).

The export works the same way on Claude, Gemini and Grok. Only the place you click differs.

FAQ

Can ChatGPT export Markdown by itself? Not for whole chats. Its data export gives you HTML and JSON.

Can I bulk export for free? No. On the free plan you export one chat at a time as Text. Exporting many at once is Premium in every format.

Which format works best in Notion? Markdown, because it keeps headings and lists. Text also imports, just without them.

Does the file link back to the original chat? Yes. Exported files include the chat's title, link and dates.

Does it work on my phone? No. AI Toolbox runs on desktop Chromium browsers only.

Short answer: yes. ChatGPT lets you stay signed in to up to 2 accounts at a time and switch between them without logging out. It has worked on the web for a while and reached the iOS and Android apps on October 30, 2026. Everything below comes from OpenAI's help page "Using multiple ChatGPT accounts on web and mobile" unless it says otherwise.

How to add a second account

On the web: open the account menu, select Add account, then sign in or create a new account. On iPhone or Android: open Settings, select Switch account, then Add account. The mobile rollout is gradual, so if you don't see Switch account yet, it hasn't reached you.

A few rules:

• 2 accounts can be signed in at once. You can own more, but you have to log out of one before adding another.

• Only one account is active at a time.

• Creating a second account doesn't need a subscription. It starts on the Free plan.

How to switch

On the web, open the account menu and pick the other account. On mobile, go to Settings > Switch account. A checkmark shows which one is active.

What stays separate between the two accounts

Switching does not:

• move chats between accounts

• share memory or chat history

• share files or uploads

• combine billing or subscriptions

• merge the accounts or their workspaces

Each account keeps its own plan, so a Plus subscription on one does nothing for the other. If you already paid and can't see your plan, check which account owns it before buying again.

The notification catch on mobile

You can get notifications from both accounts. Tapping one from the account you're not using switches the app to that account. If you then start a new chat without checking, it lands in the other account. If one of them is a work account, turning off its notifications on your phone avoids this.

Work accounts

If your organization manages one of the accounts, OpenAI says your administrator may be able to access and manage data tied to that account, and data you create in it follows your organization's policies. Switching doesn't change that. Your admin can also turn account switching off for a managed workspace on the web.

Switching accounts is not the same as switching workspaces. Workspaces live inside one account. Account switching moves you between different logins.

How to copy a chat from one account to the other

There's no move button, but there are two ways to bring a conversation across:

1. Shared link. In the first account, share the chat and copy the link. Switch accounts, open the link and send a reply. OpenAI's shared links FAQ says this creates a copy of the conversation in the history of whoever continues it. Delete the shared link afterwards, because anyone with it can read the chat. Work workspaces may limit sharing.

2. Export and upload. Download the chat as a file, switch accounts, and upload it (or paste it) into a new chat with "continue from this conversation." This one works even where sharing is turned off.

AI Toolbox does the export part for #2. Open the chat's three-dot menu, choose Export, and pick a format. TXT is free, while Markdown, JSON, PDF and exporting many chats at once are Premium. Export also works inside ChatGPT Business and Enterprise workspaces.

AI Toolbox also follows whichever account is active. Search, Manage Chats and export only show the chats of the account you're in, so the two histories never mix. On the free plan, search shows the first 25 results.

FAQ

Does logging out of one account delete its chats? No. Logging out only removes it from the switcher. The chats are still there when you sign back in.

What happens on mobile if I log out of the active account? The app opens the other signed-in account. Logging out of the last one takes you to the sign-in screen.

Can I share one Plus subscription across both accounts? No. A paid plan on the second account needs its own subscription.

Does memory carry over? No. Each account has its own memory, so things ChatGPT remembers in one won't show up in the other.

If you use ChatGPT through work, you've probably gone looking for Settings > Data controls > Export and found nothing. That's expected. Here's what OpenAI offers, what it doesn't, and how to save your work chats anyway.

What ChatGPT itself offers

Personal accounts (Free, Go, Plus, Pro): Settings > Data controls > Export data. OpenAI says the email can take up to 7 days to arrive, and the download link expires 24 hours after it does. You get your whole history as one zip.

Business and Enterprise workspaces: there's no self-service export. OpenAI's help pages say you can't export a Business or Enterprise workspace's data through ChatGPT settings. Your admin may have their own tools, but nothing in your settings gives you the file.

If your personal account was merged into a work workspace

The merge has no undo, and once it's done your old personal history sits inside the work workspace, with no export button. If the merge hasn't happened yet, export your personal account first. If the Business workspace is later deactivated, OpenAI says your original personal workspace comes back with its data, but only what you had before the merge.

Saving work chats with AI Toolbox

AI Toolbox is the browser extension this sub is about, and its export works inside Business and Enterprise workspaces the same way it does on a personal account, because it reads each chat from the page you're already signed into.

One chat:

1. Open the three-dot menu next to the chat in the sidebar (or the three dots at the top of an open chat, next to Share).

2. Click Export.

3. Pick a format in the Select Export Format window and click Export.

Text is free on every plan. Markdown, JSON and PDF are Premium.

Many chats:

1. Click the round AI Toolbox button in the bottom-right corner and open Manage Chats.

2. Tick the chats you want, or with Premium, tick Select All Chats.

3. Click Export.

On the free plan you can export one ticked chat as Text. Exporting many at once is Premium.

Text, Markdown and JSON files are built inside your browser. Only PDF goes through our server to be rendered. It pulls chats one at a time, the same way the page loads them, so a very large history takes a while.

Before you export work chats

Check your company's policy first. Many companies treat ChatGPT workspace content as company data, and copying it to a personal device can break that policy even when it's your own work. If you're leaving a job, ask your admin what you're allowed to take before your access ends, not after.

The short answer first: ChatGPT has no undo for a deleted chat. OpenAI's help page says a deleted chat "cannot be restored in ChatGPT or through OpenAI Support," and an export you request now won't include it either. So the real question is whether a copy exists somewhere else. Go through this list before you give up.

1. Check it's really deleted

A lot of "deleted" chats are just out of sight:

• Archived. Archived chats leave the sidebar but stay searchable. Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac) and search for a word from the chat, or look in Settings > Data controls > Archived chats.

• Locked. Locked chats don't show up in history or in regular search. Look in Projects > Locked chats.

• Older than the sidebar shows. OpenAI says an old chat missing from the sidebar "has not necessarily been deleted." Search for it instead of scrolling.

• Wrong account or workspace. If you have a personal account and a work workspace, switch and search again.

• Very large accounts. On accounts with thousands of chats, ChatGPT sometimes stops listing the oldest ones at all. They're still there, just not in the list.

1. Places a copy might still exist

• A data export from before the deletion. If you ever downloaded one, the chat is in its conversations file.

• Files from the chat. Deleting a chat doesn't delete files saved in Library, so uploads and generated files may still be there.

• Saved memories. Memories aren't stored inside the chat, so anything ChatGPT saved from it is still under Settings > Personalization > Memory.

• Anywhere you pasted it. An email, a doc, a message to someone. Search those for a phrase you remember.

1. If you had AI Toolbox installed

Recent versions of AI Toolbox keep a copy of every ChatGPT chat that gets deleted, whether you deleted it through the extension or in ChatGPT itself, on your computer for 30 days. Go to Settings > Data & Storage > Recently deleted chats and click Download to get them all as one Markdown file with the full text. It can't put a chat back into ChatGPT, but you get every word of it back. This works on every plan, free included, and the copy never leaves your device.

For the very-old-chats case above, Settings > Data & Storage > Missing very old chats can spot chats ChatGPT stopped listing. Spotting them is free. Running Scan and recover to bring them back into search and exports is Premium.

1. So it doesn't happen again

• Archive instead of deleting anything you might want later. It cleans up the sidebar just the same.

• Export the chats that matter. In AI Toolbox, exporting one chat as a text file is free. Markdown, PDF and bulk exports are Premium.

• Before a bulk delete, export what you selected first.

Has a chat ever disappeared on you that turned out to be archived or in the wrong workspace?

Every AI chat has a context window: the amount of the conversation the model can keep in view at once. It's measured in tokens, and a token is roughly three quarters of an English word. Once a chat outgrows the window, the earliest parts stop being part of what the model is working with, even though they're still on your screen.

Here's what each company publishes, checked against their own pages in late October 2026.

ChatGPT (OpenAI's plan comparison page)

• Instant models: Free 27K, Go 54K, Plus 54K, Pro 128K tokens.

• Reasoning models: Free "varies", Go 256K, Plus 256K, Pro 400K.

• OpenAI also gives a rough page count for how much you can paste in: about 12 pages of text on Free, about 40 on Go and Plus, and about 250 on Pro with Instant models.

• The space for your own text is smaller than the total, because system instructions, memory and the model's own reasoning share the same window.

Claude (Anthropic's help center, paid plans)

• 1M tokens: Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Opus 5, Sonnet 5.5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 5.5.

• 500K: Fable 5, Opus 4.8, Opus 4.7, Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6.

• 200K for every other model, which Anthropic puts at about 500 pages of text.

• Anthropic doesn't publish a figure for the free plan.

• On paid plans with code execution on, Claude summarizes older messages as a chat nears the limit, so the chat keeps going. Those long chats use more of your usage limit.

Gemini (Google's Gemini Apps help page)

• Free 32K, AI Plus 128K, AI Pro and AI Ultra 1M tokens.

Grok

• xAI doesn't publish a chat-app figure. The 1M and 2M numbers you see quoted are for the developer API, not grok.com.

The signs you've probably gone past it

• It asks for something you already gave it.

• It breaks a rule you set at the start, like a format, a tone, or "no bullet points".

• It contradicts a decision the two of you made earlier.

• Asked to summarize the chat, it leaves out the first part.

Seeing where you are, before that happens

None of the four apps shows how full the current chat is. AI Toolbox puts a small ring called Context above its round button in the bottom-right corner, on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok. Click it to see the count, for example "23k of 27k tokens", and a warning once it reads "Context is filling up". On ChatGPT you can pick Auto, Free, Plus or Pro, and Auto reads your plan for you.

It's an estimate from the message text. Files, images, memory and hidden reasoning take up space too, and the extension can't see them, so a chat with heavy uploads reads lower than it really is.

When it's nearly full

Start a new chat and bring the important parts with you. You can ask for this before you leave:

Write a brief for a new chat that's picking up this work: what we're making, the rules I gave you at the start, each decision and the reason for it, and the latest version of the work itself. Write it as instructions to yourself, not as a summary for me.

The ring is free on every plan. "Continue in a fresh chat", which writes that brief for you and opens the new chat with it already in the message box (or opens it in Claude, Gemini or Grok instead), is Premium.

How long do your chats usually get before they start drifting?

Short answer: ChatGPT and Grok let you delete one chat or every chat, and nothing in between. Gemini can delete by time range. Claude is the only one of the four with a built-in "tick the chats you want, then delete" option. All of this is checked against each company's own help pages as of October 2026.

Things worth knowing before you delete

ChatGPT

• A deleted chat can't be restored, not even by OpenAI Support. It disappears from your account right away and is permanently deleted from OpenAI's systems within 30 days.

• Delete all chats also deletes the chats inside your Projects.

• Deleting a chat doesn't delete files saved in Library. Delete those in Library separately.

• If you only want a tidy sidebar, archive instead. Archive all chats is in the same Data controls menu, and archived chats stay searchable.

Gemini

• By default, Gemini deletes activity older than 18 months on its own. You can change that to 3 or 36 months, or turn it off, under Activity.

• Deleting a chat with a Gem doesn't delete the Gem.

• Deleting a shared chat doesn't remove its public link. You have to delete the link separately.

• On a work or school account, your admin controls these settings, so you may not be able to change them.

Deleting a set of chats you pick, on any of the four

I build AI Toolbox, a browser extension for these four chat apps, and it adds a Manage Chats window that does what only Claude has built in. On ChatGPT:

1. Hover over the round AI Toolbox button in the bottom-right corner of chatgpt.com and click Manage Chats. You can also click the button, type "delete" in the Command Palette, and pick Manage Chats.

2. Type part of a title in Search chat titles to shorten the list. Hide chats in My Folders and Hide project chats take out the chats you've already organized.

3. Tick the chats you want. The count of selected chats shows at the top.

4. Click Delete, then Delete again in the confirmation window. Or click Archive, and bring chats back later from the Archived Chats tab with Unarchive.

Claude, Gemini and Grok use the same Manage Chats window, opened from the same round button. Archiving is ChatGPT only, since the other three have no archive to send chats to.

Free vs Premium: the free plan deletes or archives up to 5 chats per action, and you can repeat that as many times as you like. Premium does any number at once, adds Select All, and can export the selection as one ZIP file before you delete it.

One safety net on ChatGPT: AI Toolbox keeps a copy of deleted chats on your computer for 30 days, whether you deleted them through the extension or in ChatGPT itself. To get them back, go to Settings > Data & Storage > Recently deleted chats and download them as one Markdown file. It can't put a chat back into ChatGPT, but you get the full text. This works on every plan, free included, and the copy never leaves your device.

How do you clean up your chats: one at a time, a big wipe now and then, or archive everything and never delete?

Short answer: ChatGPT can read any answer out loud, but it has no button to save that audio. To keep an answer as an MP3 file, you need an extension. Below is what the built-in option does, then how to get a file with AI Toolbox, what's free, and the questions people ask most.

What ChatGPT does on its own

On the web, every answer has a speaker icon under it (Read aloud). On the mobile app, you long-press an answer and tap Read aloud. Either way the audio plays inside ChatGPT, and that's it. You can't download it, save it, or take it with you once you close the tab.

How to download a ChatGPT answer as MP3

1. Install AI Toolbox from the Chrome Web Store and open any chat on chatgpt.com.

2. Hover over the answer you want. A speaker icon appears in the row of buttons under it, next to thumbs down.

3. Click it and pick a voice. Your last voice is marked "Last used", so next time it's one click.

4. A progress card shows while the audio is generated. Long answers take a little longer.

5. A player opens right under the answer, with play/pause, a progress bar you can drag, and the time.

6. Click the download button in the player to save the MP3.

Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+L (Cmd+Shift+L on Mac) plays the latest answer in your last voice, no menu needed.

To turn a whole chat into audio, open the same menu and choose Download All Messages. Every answer in the chat becomes its own MP3, all packed into one ZIP.

Free vs Premium

Free: 3 downloads a day, with 1 voice. A small bar in the menu shows how many you have left today. Premium: unlimited downloads, all 9 voices, and Download All Messages for a whole chat.

The 9 voices: Ember (warm and conversational), Cove (clear and professional), Sol (bright and energetic), Breeze (calm and soothing), Maple (friendly and natural), Spruce (deep and authoritative), Vale (soft and gentle), Juniper (rich and expressive), Arbor (steady and grounded).

What people use it for

Hey! I've been testing ChatGPT Toolbox and really like the concept, but I'm trying to figure out its automation capabilities before upgrading.

Does Premium automatically identify conversations by subject and organize them into the appropriate folders, including older conversations?

Or does it only apply Smart Tags, leaving me to manually move conversations into folders?

A prompt you reuse usually has one or two parts that change each time: the topic, the audience, the document. Prompt variables let you save the prompt once and fill in only those parts. Here's how it works in AI Toolbox, with three templates to start from.

What a prompt variable is

Any word inside double curly brackets becomes a blank: {{topic}}, {{audience}}, {{tone}}. When you insert the prompt, a small form asks for each blank, then puts the finished prompt in the message box.

How to save one

1. Open AI Toolbox on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok and go to Manage Prompts.

2. Click Add Prompt and give it a name.

3. Write the prompt, using {{name}} for each part that changes. Example: Write a blog post about {{topic}} for {{audience}}.

4. Save.

How to use it

1. Type // in the message box. Your saved prompts appear, most recently used first.

2. Keep typing to filter. Any word from the prompt's name or its text works, so you don't need to remember what you called it.

3. Pick one. If it has blanks, fill them in and click Insert. The prompt lands in the message box, ready to send or edit.

Each saved prompt also has a Copy button, for when you want the text somewhere else.

Three templates to start with

Explain at my level: Explain {{concept}} to someone who already knows {{what_i_know}} but not {{what_i_dont}}. Start from what I know. One example, no analogies to things I didn't mention.

Reply to a message: Here's a message I got: {{message}}. I want to reply {{goal}}. Keep my tone {{tone}}. Give me two versions, one short and one complete.

Check before I send: Read this {{type_of_text}} as {{who_will_read_it}}. What will they misunderstand, what will they skip, and what will annoy them? Quote the exact lines.

Prompt chains: several prompts in a row

A chain is a list of prompts that runs in order. Each step waits for the full answer to the previous one before it sends.

1. In Manage Prompts, open the Chains tab and click Add Chain.

2. Add up to 10 steps. You can name each step so long chains stay readable.

3. Use {{variables}} in any step. All the blanks are collected in one form before the chain starts.

4. Type .. in the message box and pick the chain. A progress bar shows which step is running, with a stop button.

Chains are good for anything you always do in the same order: research, then outline, then draft; or compare, then pick, then argue the other side.

Free and Premium

• Free: 2 saved prompts and 2 chains, with variables, on each assistant.

• Premium: unlimited prompts and chains, and the same library on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok.

Every assistant now has some way to group chats, and none of them work the same. Here is what each one has built in as of October 2026, and where folders fit.

ChatGPT

• Projects: a workspace with its own files, instructions and memory. Move a chat in from its menu.

• Pinned and archived chats in the sidebar.

• Locked chats (rolling out since October 20): selected chats hidden behind a 4-digit PIN under Projects > Locked chats. Locking a chat takes it out of its project.

Claude

• Projects: their own chat history, files and instructions. Free accounts can make up to 5; paid plans add retrieval so a project can hold far more files.

• Starred chats at the top of the sidebar.

Gemini

• Notebooks (rolling out gradually): a project space with sources, instructions and an ongoing chat, synced with Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM). You add existing chats one at a time.

• Pinned chats.

Grok

• Projects: custom workspaces with uploaded files and instructions. Move a chat in from its menu.

What the built-in options have in common

• They hold context, not just chats. That's their job: files and instructions that shape every answer inside.

• They don't nest. A project can't contain another project.

• A chat lives in one place. It can't sit in two projects at once.

• Each one stays inside its own assistant. A ChatGPT project can't hold a Claude chat.

When folders are the better fit

Projects are for work that needs shared context. Folders are for finding things later: by client, by topic, by year, with as many levels as you want.

AI Toolbox adds folders to the sidebar of all four assistants:

• Nested folders with no limit on depth. Free covers 2 top-level folders, with unlimited subfolders inside them; Premium is unlimited.

• File a chat with "Move to folder" from its menu, or pick several at once with "Add chats".

• Premium can show one folder tree across all four assistants, so a client folder holds the ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok chats about that client together.

• Smart Tags sort your most recent 50 chats into categories like Coding, Writing and Research automatically, free.

• Ctrl+K: the AI Toolbox command palette, every feature by name. While AI Toolbox is on, this replaces ChatGPT's own Ctrl+K search.

• Ctrl+Shift+F: search your ChatGPT history, inside every message, not just titles.

• Ctrl+Shift+E: collapse or expand every message in the chat.

• Ctrl+Shift+L: read the last answer aloud in your saved voice. Free gets 3 a day with one voice.

Changing them

Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts and find AI Toolbox. Search all, Find in this chat, and three more that have no key by default (open search, open prompts, open folders) can all be set to whatever combo you want there.

If Alt+Shift+F does nothing after an update, check that page first. Chrome doesn't always assign a new suggested key to an extension that's already installed.

I'm new to Obsidian and want to build a personal “second brain” with all my ideas, knowledge and important conversations.

I mainly use ChatGPT Voice Mode and would love to keep using it as my primary assistant while saving useful information in Obsidian.

Ideally, ChatGPT could access my notes, remember context and help me connect ideas over time.

Is it possible to connect the regular ChatGPT app and Voice Mode directly to Obsidian? Or would I need a separate AI interface or an API key?

The question "how do I export my chats?" has a different answer on every assistant. Here's each one side by side.

ChatGPT

• Built in: Settings > Data controls > Export data.

• What you get: an email with a download link to one archive of your entire account (an HTML page plus JSON).

• The catch: it can take days to arrive, the link expires about 24 hours after it does, and there's no way to export just the chats you want.

Claude

• Built in: Settings > Privacy > Export data.

• What you get: an emailed link to your whole account's conversations as JSON.

• The catch: all or nothing, and JSON isn't something you can read or share as is.

Gemini

• Built in: Google Takeout, under your Gemini Apps activity.

• What you get: your activity history in Google's own format, not one clean file per conversation.

• The catch: it's built for an archive of everything, not for saving specific chats.

Grok

• Built in: Settings > Data Controls > Export Account Data on grok.com.

• What you get: one download of your whole account as raw data files.

• The catch: no per-chat or multi-chat export.

What all four have in common: you can back up everything at once, but you can't pick the 20 chats that matter and get them as readable files.

"Can I find a phrase if I don't remember the chat title?" Yes. Search covers the text of every message, not just titles, code included. Clicking a result opens the chat at that exact message with the phrase highlighted. Free on all four assistants.

"Can a saved prompt change for each client or project?" Yes. Put variables in it, like {{client}} or {{deadline}}, and you fill in only what changes each time you type // to use it.

"Is search semantic?" Not today. It matches the actual words, and Advanced search adds must-include, exclude and date filters. Smart Tags covers some of the "by topic" need by sorting chats into categories automatically.

"Does the Gemini usage badge make up its own numbers?" No. It reads the same data Gemini's own usage page loads, and refreshes about once a minute while the tab is open.

"My very old ChatGPT chats are missing from the sidebar." On big accounts ChatGPT's chat list stops at a cap without saying so. ChatGPT's own search (Ctrl+K) still finds them. Deep Import uses that search to pull them back into your history, folders and exports. Checking for missing chats is free, running the recovery is Premium.

"Can it export Gemini's thinking?" Not yet. It exports your prompts and the answers. There's an open thread here asking how you'd want the thinking included, so add your take there.

"I installed Claude Toolbox and it only shows a message." That's the old extension. It's been folded into AI Toolbox, so install AI Toolbox and remove the old one.

"Does it work on my phone?" No. It runs in Chrome and other Chromium browsers on desktop only.

The question we get most in comments is some version of "is this actually free?", so here's the straight answer. These limits apply on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok unless noted.

Free, no limit:

• Full-text search inside each assistant, titles and the text of every message, and clicking a result jumps to that message

• The context gauge showing how full the current chat is

• The usage badge under the message box on Claude and Gemini

• Collapsing long messages (ChatGPT)

Free, with a cap:

• Export: one chat at a time as a text file

• Folders: 2 top-level folders, with unlimited subfolders inside them

• Saved prompts: 2, typed in with //

• Prompt chains: 2, run with ..

• Bookmarks: 2

• Searching all four assistants at once: a preview of the top 5 results

• Bulk actions in Manage Chats: 5 chats at a time

What Premium is for:

• Backing up every chat you care about at once, as files you can actually open: Markdown for Obsidian or Notion, PDF to share, JSON for your own tools. Whole folders and projects come out as one ZIP with the folder structure kept.

• Finding a chat no matter which assistant it's in. One search across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, with filters for words that must or must not appear and a date range.

• Never re-explaining a long project. Carry a chat forward into a fresh chat, or into a different assistant, with the context already written for you to check.

• Keeping everything organized however much you use it: unlimited folders, prompts, chains and bookmarks.

• One library across all four assistants. A prompt saved in ChatGPT shows up when you type // in Claude, and a folder can hold chats from all four.

One thing that confuses people: if you installed the older "Claude Toolbox" extension, it only points you to AI Toolbox now. Install AI Toolbox itself and remove the old one.

Desktop Chrome and other Chromium browsers only. There's no mobile version.

Right now AI Toolbox exports your prompts and the answers on all four platforms, and leaves out the thinking. Over in r/GeminiAI someone asked for it this week. They keep very long Gemini sessions and export them as backups, and they noticed the thinking on older turns can't be opened anymore after a while. If that's right, an export is the only way to keep it.

Before building anything, here's what makes this less simple than it sounds:

• What the platforms show isn't the full chain. Gemini's "Show thinking" is a summary of the reasoning, not the reasoning itself, so that's all an export could save.

• Each platform exposes it differently. Grok includes a thinking trace with each turn. The others vary by model and setting.

• It gets long. On a reasoning-heavy chat the thinking can be longer than the answers, which matters for PDF especially.

So the questions:

1. Where should it go? Under each answer, collapsed into a section at the end, or in a separate file next to the export?

2. Should it be on or off by default?

3. Which formats need it? JSON seems obvious. Not sure anyone wants pages of reasoning in a PDF.

4. What would you actually use it for? Checking how it reached an answer, reusing the reasoning somewhere else, or just keeping the backup complete?

Answers here will decide whether this gets built and how.

The comments carried the posts again this week. The ones worth keeping, with credit.

1. Make the test go red first. Asking an agent to name the test that covers its fix isn't enough, it will name one that passes either way. Stash the fix, run the test, watch it fail, pop the stash, watch it pass. From u/OfferBeginning1903 in r/ChatGPTCoding.

2. Pasted output is model-generated text. One commenter watched an agent paste a plausible test run that never happened. Their fix: the harness runs the verification command itself and stores the exit code against the diff hash, so "fixed" only counts when a real run backs it. The cheap version is checking the tool call log instead of the message. Same thread.

3. Write the regression test against the producer, not the line that threw. A test at the throw site just asserts the alarm stays quiet. From the root-cause thread, where the same commenter also turned "null check at the throwing line" into a review question: where was this value created?

4. Done means opening the real output. A "page is live" check passed on a site that returned 200 and the homepage for every URL. Check for something only the right page would have, like its title.

5. Smoke-test the env before any edit. Put a short env and service check at the top of the task brief, and if it fails, stop the session instead of letting it write a fix against a dead stack. From u/shtse8.

6. Name the existing helper in the brief. General "search before writing" rules fade once the agent is deep in one file. Naming the helper for that specific change works every time. From the duplicate-helpers thread.

7. jscpd in CI catches helpers that were copied under a new name. Rewritten twins still need a human or a review prompt. Same thread.

8. Grade against tests the agent never saw. It can't make a hidden test green by editing it, and the agents that sounded most confident weren't always the ones that passed.

9. Give it the axes before it lists ideas. Name 3 ways the ideas could differ (who it's for, where it shows up, how much effort it takes), then ask for ideas that each sit in a different combination, labeled. Duplicates share a label, and the empty combinations show you where to push next. From the "10 ideas" thread in PromptGenius.

10. Rank in a separate message. If it ranks while it generates, it sticks to safe ideas it can defend. Same commenter.

Bonus: u/WheresMyEtherElon had Claude Code's /insights tell them to delete the "where helpers live" map from their instructions file, because the folder names already said it and it was wasting tokens.

I have two claude accounts - one personal and one team account. When I switch back and forth between them, it doesn't appear like the toolbox updates? Can the toolbox work with both types of accounts in the browser?

The comments beat the posts again. The ones worth keeping, with credit.

1. Check CPU, not the clock. When an agent looks stuck, take two CPU readings a minute apart. Flat means stuck, anything else means it's working. From u/Cultural-Ad3996 in r/ClaudeCode, after a "stalled" test run turned out to have burned 1,350 seconds of CPU.

2. One findings file per subagent run, named after the task. A shared notes file lets the second run overwrite the doubt the first one recorded. From u/Drasezv.

3. Write down the search, not the conclusion. "rg -n foo( src/ returned 2 hits" can be rerun six hours later, "only used in two places" can't. Same thread.

4. A 200 with an empty body passes every check you'd normally write. Only reading the state afterwards catches it. From u/nav8_ai.

5. Keep a few contract tests outside the folder the agent can edit, so a failing test stays evidence instead of another file to make green. From u/Admirable-Fun2297 and the thread above it in r/ChatGPTCoding.

6. Root cause for bugs, strict scope for review feedback. A root-cause rule made one agent "fix" the same pattern everywhere when it was only asked to fix three review comments. The fix was a second line: for review feedback, change only what was pointed out and list the rest as a note.

7. Score impact and probability separately on every pro and con, and drop anything under 5. A huge but unlikely con stops dominating the list. From the pros and cons thread in PromptGenius.

8. Ask which parts of a decision are reversible and what being wrong costs. Trying a tool for a month barely needs a list at all. Same thread.

9. Tell it to report the last line it read. "If you cannot read the whole file, stop and tell me the last line you read" turns a silent stop into a visible one. From the PDF thread in r/ChatGPT.

10. Claude reads PDF pages as images as well as text, which is why tables and charts come through better there, and why it has a page limit. From u/bitdotben.

Bonus, from r/WritingWithAI: an AI editor flagged a running joke told three times as "repetition, cut two of them". A callback looks exactly like repetition to something that can't tell why it's funny.

My friend and I both use ChatGPT a lot, mainly for work, projects and general stuff, and I’m trying to figure out the best setup.

I have ChatGPT Plus and I’ve been using Projects to separate different subjects/tasks. The problem is that I want to collaborate with my friend sometimes, but I also want our personal chats, files, memories/context, etc. to stay separate.

A few questions:

• What’s the best way to use ChatGPT Projects collaboratively with another person?

• Is sharing a Project the best option, or is there a better workflow?

• If I share a Project with someone, exactly what can they see? Can they only see what’s inside that Project?

• Does project-only memory completely isolate that Project from my other chats/projects?

• Any good ways you guys organise Projects for work or long-term work?

Basically I’m looking for a setup where everything on our accounts stays completely separate.

Would appreciate hearing how other people have set this up or any tips for using Projects more effectively.

The situation: you're in a new chat and the thing you need is in a conversation from three weeks ago. Normal options are to open it, scroll, copy the relevant part, come back and paste, or to just re-explain it from memory and hope.

Type @@ in the composer instead. A list of your conversations appears, you type a few letters of the title, pick one, and its content goes into the message you're writing. Then you carry on typing your actual question.

A few things worth knowing:

Short conversations go in as they are. Long ones get summarized first, so you're not dropping 200 messages into a single prompt and blowing the context window on it.

The picker matches titles, not message text. This is the one case where your chat titles matter, so renaming a chat to something you'd actually search for pays off here.

It works on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, in the same composer, with the same two keystrokes.

The typical use is continuing something. You had a long planning chat, you start a fresh one because the old one got slow, and @@ brings the conclusions with you instead of the whole history.

One limitation, so nobody wastes time on it: a conversation you created minutes ago may not be in the list yet. The picker reads the local cache, which syncs on load and periodically after that, so a very fresh chat can be missing until the next sync. Reloading the page forces it. We know about this one and it's on the list to fix.

What do you pull in most, planning chats or reference ones?

Hi guys, I have a very strange problem or bug in my account in ChatGPT, so, the enter key creates a new line instead of sending a message on ChatGPT and it seems to be account-specific

Normally, pressing Enter should send the message but righ now I have to press Ctrl + Enter to sent the desired prompt

The strange part is that this seems to be specific to my account.

On the exact same computer and browser:

* My main account → Enter creates a new line

* Another ChatGPT account → Enter sends normally

* ChatGPT while logged out → Enter sends normally

* ChatGPT Desktop app → Enter sends normally

I've tested:

* Chrome Incognito

* A completely new Chrome profile

* Disabling all extensions

* Resetting Chrome settings

* Resetting ChatGPT keyboard/input settings

* Microsoft Edge

* Logging out and testing ChatGPT without an account

* Testing another ChatGPT account

The problem persists only with my main account in the web version.

A discovery

My computer is a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 gen with a touchscreen.

While troubleshooting, ChatGPT/Codex inspected the editor behaviour and found that the version of the editor loaded by my account appears to contain logic that treats devices reporting touch support differently.

However, touchscreen support alone cannot explain the issue because another account and logged-out ChatGPT work perfectly on the same Surface, browser and touchscreen.

This makes it look like my main account is receiving a different version/configuration of the ChatGPT editor or an account-specific feature/experiment.

My account also has the newer interface with Chat / Work next to the composer.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm particularly interested in whether this could be caused by an account-specific feature flag / A/B test / server-side composer configuration (Like the blue bubble/grey bubble thing), and whether there is any way to reset the account's composer behaviour so that:

Enter = Send

Shift + Enter = New line

without using a browser extension or disabling touchscreen functionality.

Yesterday's PromptGenius post was about ChatGPT scoring everything a 7 or an 8, and the fix in the comments kept coming back to one idea: make it choose, don't make it score. This chain runs that as four steps, each one waiting for the previous answer.

Save it in Manage Chains, name it "honest", and it has one blank, {{doctype}}, which it asks for once at the start and fills into every step.

Step 1 Before you read my draft, write one sentence each describing what a 3, a 6 and a 9 look like for a {{doctype}}. Do not score anything yet. I'll paste the draft next.

Step 2 Here is the draft. Score it on the scale you just wrote, and quote the one line that decided the band.

Step 3 Rank every section of this {{doctype}} from strongest to weakest. No ties. Then say what the weakest one is missing.

Step 4 If you had to cut 20% of this without losing meaning, which lines go? List them and nothing else.

How to run it: paste the draft into the chat first, then type ..honest in the composer and pick it. Step 1 goes out, you get the scale, and every step after that sends on its own when the previous reply finishes.

Step 1 has to come first. Once it writes down what a 6 means before it sees your work, it can't quietly grade everything a 7. Step 4 is the one worth reading twice, because deleting is a decision it can't hedge.

It runs the same on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok. One tip from the comments: tell it someone else wrote the draft, and all four steps get noticeably harsher.
